Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Happy Labor day weekend! Just an FYI: this weekend thread will include Monday, since it is the holiday, we all know the thread will be quiet. Good morning. Just getting light out, looks like a very nice day.
Anngie, I will fill you all in about DH later. The car just ticks me off, as I am so used to driving around during the day with my headlights on, so with one burnt out, I don't turn them on. DH used to be able to fix those on our vehicles, but with the way they build them now, it is next to impossible to do yourself. Both of us get both shots, plus that shingles shot. Do I remember correctly, that you were going away for the weekend? Have a super time, you deserve it!!
Gareth, I have heard, and seen on TV, houses that go all out for Packer decorating. We have never been that over the top. That can get expensive. Then if the team has a bad year, (cough, cough...last year...), you are not happy with them, so then you have to look at all that stuff. Oh dear! No hot water!! How did that turn out? Hope it didn't cost too much!!
Pinky, our mini vacay is the last weekend of Sept. We will actually go up there on Wed the 25th and stay thru Sunday morning. OMG! Have a super time at the wedding!!! I have never heard of dining room host/hostess at a wedding, I hope you can fill me in, next week.
Carol, well at least the eyes are not something that has to be taken care of right away. Do you notice anything strange with your vision? You and I are the same, never had a mani or pedi, and most likely never will. Just does not interest me. For the little while my toes are exposed, I can do it myself, as for my fingernails, that would truly be a waste of money, as mine break so easy, or if I am under stress, I will chew off a few nails. OMG! I remember the moon landing, my parents, my brother and I were on a cross country road trip, I think by then we were in AZ, when they landed, how exciting that news was!
Robin!!!! HAPPY WEDDING DAY!!!!!
In between doing the house cleaning yesterday, my head was spinning, with what was going on with DH! His Urologist called, saying he talked to DH's Cardiologist, and what with DH just having that clot in his leg busted, DH can not go off his blood thinning med's for at least 2-3 months. So Urologist wants to do surgery anyway, even tho there will be a chance DH could bleed out. But to put the surgery off, means more tumors growing and growing larger. Urologist is confident he can stop the operation and get the bleeding under control. DH gave his permission to do the surgery. THEN! His back doctor called about the MRI results. The reason he has broken hardware, is the bone basically just gave way, as it thinned out to nothing. That doctor has talked to the Cardiologist and told DH he will not do surgery till after the 2-3 months, so he is sending DH to P.T. Crazy!!! Yes, I am very worried about that bladder surgery.
Since I have to get going, as I am meeting my sister at the Y, tomorrow I will fill you all in on my experience with WW yesterday.
Have a super weekend!!

I was awake too early this morning. Like I didn't have to be up early enough as it was to get ready for work. A part was replaced in the water heater so we have hot water again. Haven't got the bill yet but it's not going to be nearly as expensive as first thought.
Karen, what a worry with so much going on with DH. How can PT help with his back with broken hardware? I remember the moon landing well since I was in the hospital giving birth to DS. Do I even want to know about your experience with WW yesterday?..lol
Happy wedding day to both Robin and Pinky!

Gareth, were you the one to ask if it is too soon to get a flu shot? I am sorry if I am wrong, I just can't remember who asked.(Glad the water heater wasn't a major fix!!) Anyway, for whoever asked, I know from working at the hospital, when the time finally came that they required employees to get the shot, we would usually get them in October-November. Since flu season lasts so long, I always wait till around the 1st of November.

We had thunderstorms almost all yesterday afternoons. I always unplug the computer and when it was all over, the computer wouldn't connect to the internet, but the phones and my Kindle would. DH called customer service and they walked him through some stuff, but it didn't work. We will have to have a service call, but not until Tuesday because of the holiday. I am at the public library.
Karen, at least your DH's doctors are talking to each other and trying to get it all straightened out. I hope whenever he has surgery that it goes great, of course.
Thinking about Pinky and Robin and the weddings.
The library is closed on Sunday and will be closed for the holiday so I may not be on again until Tuesday. I hope everyone has a great and restful long weekend.

Good morning. Clouds today, just like yesterday, but no rain, and high of around 70. Tuesday is supposed to be 79, but that is the only day going close to 80, so it looks like our warm summer might be over.
Gareth, not sure what P.T. will do to help DH, but I do know that it seems like when doctors are at a loss for what to do for a patient, they send them to P.T. Maybe to have other muscles learn how to work better, to take the load off? It is a mystery.
Carol, that's too bad about your computer. I have that kind of bad luck with my laptop. Good luck, maybe it will pop back on today.
Robin and Pinky, how did the weddings go?
Pinky, still wondering what a hostess at the dinner does?
We had a good time with our elderly friends. Then I got a good night's sleep so I am ready to go to the Y.
I won't bother with my issue with Weight Watchers, maybe tomorrow or Tuesday. I am giving it a few days, to see if things work out.
Have a nice Sunday.

Beautiful, sunny morning when I walked earlier. Now it's clouded over. 52º when I walked so I broke out the windbreaker again. 80's later. Both DH and I have sore arms after finally getting our shingles shot yesterday. Every time I checked before the pharmacy had been out of it. DH's cost $26 mine almost $170 because I hadn’t yet met the insurance deductible. Hated to spend the money but I went ahead and got it since I don’t want to chance ever getting shingles. Heard too many horror stories and saw what my stepmom went through when she had it. After a slow start I'm getting into And So It Begins. I'll listen to more of it while I get chicken and stuffing in the crockpot now.

Good morning.
Thoughts and prayers for all in the path of Dorian.
Partly cloudy here, I heard last night that we should be getting some strong storms late tonight, into the early morning.
Gareth, that is a lot of money for the shot. I do not have the better coverage that DH has, as it is not needed, but my first shingles shot was only $50. DH paid the same. Yours was really high! I am waiting to get the from the pharmacy that the 2nd one is in.
Can't wait to hear how the 2 weddings were, I am sure they were fabulous!
Too much eating this weekend, getting back to the program today.
Have a great Labor day!

Cloudy and humid walking this morning. It was 15º warmer though than yesterday morning. Meeting DS and family for a Mexican lunch at Carlos O'Kelleys. Getting close to the end of And So It Begins. I have no idea how it'll end. My kind of book that keeps me guessing.
Karen, I'm anxious too to hear about both weddings.

I'm on my Kindle so this may be slow going.
As I remember the Shingles shot made both DH and my arms sore. Mine were free because of Medicare. I don't remember, but he has good insurance so I wouldn't be surprised if they were free, too.
Typical Sunday, church. We face-timed with DGS for over an hour. So fun, changing every day.
Anxious to hear about the weddings. I imagine Pinky and Robin are tired.

Hi Friends----I cannot believe September is here already, where did summer go? ? Our nephews wedding was beautiful and and everything went without a glitch, well that I know of anyway. The brides family were very friendly and nice so it was a lovely weekend. So fun for our family to be all together and we have to appreciate this time together as you never know what could happen. This nephew that was married is DH's brothers son, and I have not mentioned DBIL in some time but he is the one battling cancer. He hangs in there but he is not getting better and is not expected to be cancer free, the cancer is just being managed. He has some pretty tough days but he is a trooper and keeps on moving forward. DMIL will be 86 in November and I see her frailness more all the time. She is still in her own home but thing very much about being in an assisted living home where she would have her own apartment. I feel bad for DH and his DSIS as it has to be hard knowing their mom and brother are failing. Karen--surprised at never hearing of a dining room host and hostess, I need to remember not all areas do the same things. Typically the duties of the host and hostess would be to greet people at the reception doors and let the guests know if they may sit anywhere or if there is assigned seating. Also to help with location of restrooms and other important bits of info the guests would need like where the elevator is if there are steps that people cannot do and also to direct where gifts or cards can be left if the gift attendant misses someone, where the guest book is etc. especially for people that may have come in different entrances than the main one. Also if it is a buffet style dinner the H & H will instruct the different tables when it is their turn to fill their plates. At this wedding the waiters and waitresses brought the plates to the table. Also another job we had at this wedding that may not always be a job for some weddings is that the ceremony was outside so we were to help pick up guestbook, unity candles and a few other decor items that were to be used in the reception and get them in place. We also had to light all the candles on the tables for the reception before the guests were able to enter. Things like that---we were kept hopping but it was fun and by the time food was served our job was done. He did however help pick up things from the venue after and had much help from the brides aunts and uncles as well with that. Guessing when you asked this question you weren't expecting a novella---you know me I get to explaining and don't know when to quit, SORRY!! Carol---on occasion we will have a problem with computer not connecting to the internet and obviously you had the computer off so this probably won't help but shutting down the computer and restarting sometimes fixes it, and if that doesn't we unplug our router and reboot that and that fixes it. Might be worth a try. Gareth---I will be checking into And So It Begins, sounds like my kind of book. Who is the author in case there is more than one which happens quite frequently it seems?? Mexican food-----so yummy!!! Anngie--guessing you are at the lake, hope the weather is behaving for you. Robin---can't wait to hear about the wedding. I did see a couple of pictures on the FB WOW Booklovers page and you all looked stunning. Yes I am keeping those in Dorian's path in my prayers. This crazy weather! DD's family left yesterday afternoon, sad to see them go so quickly but with the baby and an extra day off for DSIL and the DGS's they were going to catch up on somethings at their house. Baby was wonderful at the wedding and can't believe he is already 3 weeks old and he has been to 2 weddings already. A gal that babysat for 2 older DGS's was married last weekend so he is already quite the adventurer. Hope none of you have to labor to hard today!! Happy Labor Day!

I guess no surprise that wedding here in NY are totally different. I never heard of family members being a host and hostess. The catering facility takes care of anything that is needed.
The wedding was great. This time I remembered to make sure the photographer took pictures that I wanted. Also, once I saw that my DDIL had listed her aunt and uncle's families separately in addition to a large group photo, I also had them take each family separately with the bride and groom, so I could actually see them all. The band was fantastic, so everyone was up and dancing all night long. My older DS's best man speech was great, and the bride's sisters gave a great speech as well. The rabbi was wonderful, although I could have had it a little shorter, people loved the ceremony. I didn't realize they were writing their own vows, which was wonderful. They are now at the airport waiting for their flight to take off for their honeymoon.
Pinky, glad your nephew's wedding was great also. It is always good to have family together.
Karen, sorry to hear the news about your DH.
Carol, neither regular medicare or our supplemental covered the shingles shot I got. I can't remember how much it cost.
Gareth, hope you enjoyed the Mexican lunch. Nice to get together with your DS no matter what. I think sometimes people lose site of the fact that the important thing is getting together, not what you eat. Crazy weather we are all having.
As of now, we are not expecting the hurricane to hit here, but you never know. If it comes further up the coast it could.

Hey all. Ugh I am so tired. Went to my WO at 4:45 today and then off to work. Ended up not leaving work until after 6:30 so was a long long day. Will be working out again Wednesday and Friday. Am actually feeling good about doing this. Hope I can keep doing this but will have to see how DH job goes. If it slows down to much I may have to cut it but going to try for as long as I can. Getting ready to head to bed but needed to stop in and say hi. I should be able to stop in tomorrow for personals. Ok should be back tomorrow but Wednesday is DH bday and we will probably go out to eat. See you all soon
