Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. First day of school here today. Storms awhile ago, still raining. Warm day today then a cool off.
Gareth, you are a day ahead of us with the weather, today is our humid and warm day, I feel bad for the kids going back to school, seems they always have that day, in the beginning of the year that is so warm. I too had to chuckle, with the name of the Mexican restaurant, kind of Irish sounding!! But if it has great food, who cares about the name!
Carol, both DH and I are on medicare and we both had to pay for the shingles shot. Did you get both of the shots? If so, were they both free? I hope you get your computer fixed today. Don't ya just hate when one of your electronics doesn't work?
Pinky, I love that someone else on here goes into little stories!!! That was so much fun reading about the H&H duties!!! I can say positively, that there is nothing like that in the Green Bay area. People (guests) are mostly on their own at the wedding, to figure everything out. Mostly it is not hard to figure out, what with if the wedding is what we are all used to. Was the bride's dress beautiful? What did you wear to the wedding? Love that the baby, at 3 weeks old is a veteran wedding goer!!
Robin, so you don't have H & H there also? I wish I could see a picture of you in your dress. Was the bride beautiful? I sure hope Dorian does not decide to go up by you, the way it sounds, it should be going back out to sea, before that happens. What a horrific storm!
Welcome, Sschroeder509. Everyone is welcome to jump in and be a part of our group. I do have a feeling you stopped here in error.
Took a walk yesterday morning, then went to Kohl's to return that dress, finally! Then bought a couple sweatshirts, and a few fall decorations for the living room.
Need to call my doctor this morning, as my interstitial lung disease is acting up, and I want to see if she can put me on steriods to knock it back. It is very annoying, and just want it to settle back down. Then I will run to the Y. Need to also run to the B Alive store close to me, as the one I stopped at yesterday did not have the CBD oil balm I use to rub on my knees, so hopefully our little store here will have it.
Have a very nice day everyone.

Karen, today is our start of school too, I think. I haven't heard any school buses go by though, so maybe tomorrow. The route for our neighborhood goes past my house. Do you find that CBD oil helpful?
I don't really have a picture of me in my gown yet. We should get something from the photographer soon, and if I can post one of those, I will. The bride and groom looked great. Bride was beautiful and looked great in her dress. Not totally simple, but not over the top princessy either.
This morning I took fosamax, so getting a late start to breakfast. Then will go into the office. I am waiting for more info about the buyer for DM's house. I have their name, purchase price, down payment, that kind of thing so DH can get the contract started, but they have to send me the real terms sheet. I was in touch with the realtors after the wedding, so they gave me major contact info, but did not seem to be that forthcoming, so getting a little worried.

Karen---yes her dress was beautiful. I wore a little black dress as they say with peek-a-boo sleeves and just below the knee in length. Jazzed it up with jewelry. I hope you find your oil and get the steroids you need. I don't believe I have heard of your lung disease before other than I know you had one or part of a lung removed. Do you care to share more info about the actual disease?
Robin---back to normal today I suppose and looks like you have jumped right in with getting back to the sale of your DM's house. Wishing you good luck with that. How nice to get back to the norm if you didn't have to deal with that and as nice and wonderful as weddings are, it is nice not to have to worry about that anymore as well. Keeping my fingers crossed that Dorian's path does not find you.
I have a full day today and then tomorrow we are having our annual sweet corn freezing day with DSIL and DMIL so will be a full day from early till I drop dead tired into my bed so may not see you gals tomorrow. I will try to get back here later today but will see what the day brings. Waving to all of you!!

My walk is done. Laundry is done. Bed is back together. Time now for a break. It's my later shift at work today. We had a nice lunch with DS and family yesterday. Sat and visited for quite awhile after lunch. They weren’t busy so no one needed our table. I had a chicken fajita quesadilla that was so good. Couldn’t eat it all after all the chips and salsa I ate before our meals came. The chips are warm and so good. Afterward we went to WM. What a zoo that place was even worse than usual. DS wondered if it was really worth it to save money going there. I’ve been saying the same thing for years.
Karen, Carlos O'Kelleys is a chain that I thought was everywhere but evidently not. Kids here went back to school already a week ago.
Robin, I'd love to see the wedding pictures! I know you told us where to find the pics on FB from your other DS's wedding so hoping you will again with this one.
Carol, hope your internet problems are resolved!
I finished And So It Begins this morning. I liked it. I wasn't able to figure the ending out until the end. Pinky, the author is Rachel Abbott. I've started You now. I'm not sure why since it's an erotic thriller. I'm afraid there will be too much graphic sex for me. I don't need ALL the details! Not caring for all the language so far either but I'm not ready to give up on it quite yet.

Karen - I forgot to factor in school busses on my way to work, plus with the storm at the same time. I got stuck behind a school bus in De Pere that stopped twice less than a block apart and nobody got on the bus at either stop. Poor dh! How is his attitude with all that medical stuff going on?
Robin - Mazel Tov again.
Pinky - is sweet corn freezing day like a party in your house? I bought some corn off of one of those stands (Karen - sunny hill) and it was probably the best corn we've ever had. I'm surprised because I expected this summer to be a tough one with the spring we had, but the ears were big and full and incredibly sweet.
Gareth - I don't think the money saved is worth the Walmart experience, but there are some things that nobody else carries. Like the refills for the Dawn foaming dish soap. And large bags of converted rice. So we stock up on those things and then don't go back until we run out.
Quiet weekend for us. Chores and errands. I've been making yogurt in the Instant Pot and I had 2 batches fail this weekend. I've been advised to check to see that it is holding temp so that's my next step.

Gareth, I meant Mexican restaurant, not American. Silly autocorrect.
DH went to the cable/internet office today and got a new router. So far it is working. We have a service call scheduled for tomorrow and we may go ahead and keep it and let the guy make sure everything is connected correctly.
Yesterday, DH was working on a project and was trying to separate two pieces of wood glued together by using a razor blade. Well, his right hand slipped and he cut his left hand. He was bleeding profusely and we decided to go to the ER. The cut was deep so they had to stitch it up. It was still bleeding some. He also had to get a tetanus shot since we couldn't remember the last time he had one. Not a great way to spend an afternoon, but the ER wasn't real busy so we didn't have to wait too long. We have an urgent care center close, but it was closed.
Pinky, I have never heard of a dining room host and hostess either. At DD's wedding, I think the wedding planner did most of those things. There was some sort of seating chart and they had a buffet so no waiters and waitresses. I think there were a couple of people who the planner hired to pick up dishes and serve the cake. DS and DDIL didn't have a meal, just finger foods and cake, of course.
I am so happy both weddings went well. I am sure they were beautiful.
Robin, I didn't remember your DM's house had sold. I know you were getting work done on it, I think.
With the holiday yesterday, I feel a day behind. I need to vacuum and clean bathrooms.

We had a so-so Labor Day weekend, weather-wise. Yesterday it rained most of the day. Of course, today is nice.
Last week I had xrays taken of my hip and sure enough, it’s advanced arthritis in my right hip. Not a surprise. I’m to continue going to PT but if I find that doesn’t help then I should see an orthopedic doctor. I don’t think I’m quite there yet, though. PT and two Advil a day seems to help.
Robin, what style wedding gown did she wear? What color dresses did her attendants wear? I’m sure it was beautiful. Certainly a lot off your mind now - and off to the sale of DM’s house! Yes, I too, must have missed the fact you has a buyer. Hope it all goes smoothly.
Karen, I’m not familiar with interstitial lung disease. Is it something that flairs up occasionally?
Pinky, do you also can vegetables?
Gareth, Carlos O’Kellys is not a chain here either. Yes, WM is quite an experience! Our WM is directly across the street from Target but I still go to WM because of their prices - and if I need a grocery item or two. Can be one stop shopping for me.
Marsha, too bad about all the wasted ingredients to make the yogurt. What happens if it’s not holding the temp? Will the company/store replace it?
Carol, glad your internet is working. I think I’d keep the service call too.
I was having lunch with a couple of friends last week and the subject of self-serve check-outs came up. One friend was adamant that she would NEVER use one because she feels it’s taking a cashiers job away. I understand where she’s coming from (and I should only speak re NYS) but I don’t see that it’s TOTALLY from a profit standpoint, only. I can’t help but wonder if it’s the rise of minimum wage that’s cutting into their profits and hence more self check-outs! Minimum wage here is/will be $15.00/hour and climbing. So, they put in more self-serves! What do you think?!

Anngie - I never thought about the self serve in terms of replacing jobs but perhaps there is something there, although in most stores I've been in with the self serve they still have a cashier there to help. I use them when I just have a handful of items to check out. I think perhaps it would mean longer lines depending on where you are. We had a store that had them for a while and took them out. I've been told if they IP is not holding the temp I should contact the company and "open a ticket" and from what I have heard they are quite responsive. I almost hope it is the pot, because if it isn't I don't know what to try.
