Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Quiet day here, clear and cooler. Yesterday got to 80, with humidity.
Robin, did you get an offer on your Mom's house? I can't recall you mentioning an offer. Congrats!!! How nice that will be to be done with that! Good luck getting the info needed. The day after the wedding do you all get together and watch the Bride and Groom open presents? We do that here, usually just the immediate family and the wedding party, for a brunch type get together, to watch.
Pinky, your dress sounds gorgeous! Would love to see a picture of it, but I know how hard it is to post one on here. The lung disease I have was found the summer they found the lung cancer. It is hard to explain, but what it does, if you don't use the inhalers every single day, (which I did not, as I did not know back then that you had to be religious about it), it can come back and inflame the lung. It affects my breathing, where I do not want to do any walking, and can get progressively worse. Right now the doctor can see what is called Fibrosis on the xrays. After Googling it, it opened my eyes, so I am pretty worried about it. Have a good time with the corn party today.
Gareth, I am sure we do not have any of the Carlos O'Kelleys here. But that is the way it is here, my goodness, one of the small cities 30 miles away just had a Chick Fil A open a week or so ago and it was a big deal, as there was none in this whole area. We do have a lot of eateries, just not a lot of the nation wide ones. Hope your weather is like ours, very nice, especially for walking!
Marsha, lol....yesterday afternoon we were going to run to Festival out by us, and I needed to stop at B Alive, right there also, so I told DH that we had to get going, so we would beat the buses, and all the moms, as the route to Fest Foods goes right by Bayport, HS, the grade school and the Intermediate school...so you really avoid that area at those 2 times of day. I feel for you, as that used to happen to me sometimes coming thru Sobieski, going home, back in the day. I have not seen any farm stands run by Sunny Hill. Just Moder's. I will have to keep my eyes peeled, as after I work out I am running to town to look for a suitcase.
Carol, so sorry about your DH. Hope it is healing nicely. Does this affect his job? Those routers can be touchy, we have gone thru a few, back at the old house. So far this new one we have here is working good. I do have issues with my laptop when I shut it down, instead of just closing it. The darn thing thinks it can do the updates that are waiting and 9 times out of 10 something goes wrong, so it's like pulling teeth to get it all back to normal.
Anngie, good luck with your hip!! I hope the therapy helps. That is how I was last year, not quite there, in regards to surgery. Too much going on, and too much to do. So you do know, in the back of your mind, that it is just waiting, there will come a time when you say, ok, let's do it. Yes, Ild can flare up, altho this is the first time, since being diagnosed with it back in 2013. I did read that having a surgery can make it flare up. I love self serve check outs. Yesterday at the store, they had a whole bunch of non self check outs going, with long lines, and we were lucky to be able to use a self serve one, to avoid the lines. I feel every store should have them. If I have just a few things, why stand in a line with people that have a lot in their cart?
Not happy with my doctor. She said the pain in my upper back is a muscle strain. She thinks I should go to therapy for that. No. Thank. You. I am sitting in pain right now, waiting for it to go away. Back in 2014 her and I had a big discussion about Symbicort inhaler. Her insisting there was nothing else for me to take, and I was telling her back then that I could not afford it, as the 3 month supply was over $600. Now, since she found out I have not been taking it for those years, as I could not afford it back then, she is mad that the Ild is back. She is saying I should have asked the Pharmacist if there was something else I could have taken that was cheaper. Really??? For one thing, isn't that HER job??? After I had told her I could not afford the one inhaler, I feel it was HER job to switch me to something else, not a Pharmacist! So I had to deal with her pissy attitude towards me yesterday, in order to get some help now. What a piece of work!! I have an appointment with Pulmonary Function dept, with of course having to get a PF test, then seeing the specialist. I have googled the Fibrosis along with the Ild, and it does not sound good, for an outcome. I have not said anything to DH, as he has enough to deal with.
Finished the book Dreams of Falling, by Karen White. It started a tad slow, but I was sure glad I stayed with it, it was a very good book. Have 2 holds that came thru, so the race is on to read the 2 before they get yanked.
Have a nice day everyone.

Short on time so this will be short. 20Âş cooler walking this morning so out came the windbreaker again. Sunny so even though it was cool it's nice walking weather. Cooler and less humid today. Only going to be in the low 70's.
Karen, DH has been on the Symbicort inhaler for years Even with insurance it's expensive even after his deductible is met. Pharmacy and Dr says there's no generic for it so he has no choice. Have you thought of trying a chiropractor for your back?

DH sold dd’s car. Remember that he bought me that car and I blew a gasket over it? Well I’ve been driving it and I do like it so that meant all the cars have to be shifted. So we have my old car – a 2006(?) Camry in great shape that I love, dd will drive that when she is home. And her car – a 2000 Taurus that was my mother’s and she gave it to ds when she gave up driving several years ago, then ds bought a new car this past spring and gave that to dd – dh sold it yesterday to his hair stylist for her son. That was a big victory because it’s one less car in the driveway. Yay! And dd is thrilled that she will be driving the Camry now.
Today is ds’ first day of his finally last semester of his undergrad degree. His gf sent us a pic of him holding one of those First Day of School signs. Very cutesy. She loves that cheesy stuff and it was adorable that ds would pose for it. Made me feel like I should tell him to come by the house and stand in the spot I always took the first day of school pictures!
Karen – what is the treatment for that lung disease? Is it related to the cancer? Saw your comments about your doctor – perhaps you should look for someone new. Also check into the pharmacy at Pick and Save. They have some kind of prescription discount program which circumvents your insurance but it has saved us a ton of money vs when we were at Target and they ran it through insurance. You pay to join but we saved more than we paid in just our first month. Sunny hill has a lot of spots in town where they just pull up their truck and sell veggies. There is one on Allouez Avenue near me where I have stopped several times. I’m sure they must have some in Howard. Are you a member of Costco? I think you once said no but if you are, they have good deals on suitcases. I have 3 roller carryons that I bought there and so far they have held up well. I try not to check my bags though.
Gareth – I wore long leggings and a jacket and long sleeve shirt on my walk this morning and I was still a bit chilly. Nice change from heat and humidity but fall is definitely coming.
No plans for this evening. I'm enjoying this quiet time at home. I citrus oiled my bathroom cabinets the other day. What a huge difference that made! I was amazed.

Karen, it does seem like the doctor would have mentioned how expensive that med was. My dermatologist said that some meds have coupons from the manufacturer that give you a big discount. I don't think it was your job to bring it up to the pharmacist. I usually just go along with what the pharmacy charges and don't question it.
Marsha, that is what we do with cars. We get a new one and pass the old along to one of the kids. Has your DD started classes? Good for your DS for his last semester. An older couple we know started a master gardener's class recently and posted a picture holding a First Day of School sign. I thought it was cute.
DH's hand is fine. He was able to take the big bandage off and put a band-aid on it. He will have to go back and get the stitches out.
Personally, I like self-check outs and use them when I have a few items. Our Home Depot has self check out and we really like it. The check outs line are usually long and it seems like the people in front of us are buying materials to build a house and we have a can of paint so it's much easier to use self check out.

Carol - dd's first day of classes is also today. In response to ds' gf's picture of ds, dd sent a picture of herself with the caption "first day of sophomore year" Glad dh's hand is doing well.

Lots of things to comment on, so little time. Taking a lunch break.
Anngie, sorry about your hip. If you do need a replacement, I know that everyone says it is so much easier to recuperate from a hip replacement than a knee replacement.
Karen, there were a few gifts that were bought of their registry as wedding gifts, but otherwise people here give checks. All I needed to know was how much one of my friends gave them, as her DD is getting married Sept 15th. My DH also uses an inhaler, but not all the time. I will check which one. He always has a wheeze, not for any particular reason other than something allergy related I think. When he had his last rotator cuff surgery, the surgeon made him reschedule because he heard the wheeze, and it wasn't noted in his chart. He has lost some weight, so doesn't wheeze quite the same, but I know that each inhaler was quite expensive, but I don't think it was as much as $200.
Marsha, glad you got everything to work out with the cars. Definitely silly to have an extra car sitting around, not to mention having to pay insurance on it.
As far as self check-out goes, in Home Depot I am happy to have more people walking the aisles helping than working at a check out, and there are only so many employees they can have. Same goes with the supermarket. Our Target also has a lot of self check-outs. Same goes there, I would rather see people stocking shelves, and around to ask questions to, and do things like go to the back room and get Marsha that 1 loan mirror that was left in the box. Carol, I agree with you on it being quicker too. When I am in the supermarket, it seems like whoever I get behind has a problem and they need a manager to come over with a key. What's up with that?
Gareth, I guess maybe what my DH has is symbacourt.
I have book club tonight, finally finished the book, and I really hope that we pick a better book next time. We are skipping over one person who has been undergoing chemo, and the next one said she had a book in mind, I am wondering what it is. Most of us live in one area within 2 miles or so of each other, there are 2 that live about 5 miles away, so we are going to carpool.
I started reading Mrs. Everything and am enjoying it so far. I have been busy this morning at work, trying to do some things that my DS didn't get to, that are not really legal things.

Carol, I, too, use the self-check whenever I have just a few things. It’s easy and I’m in and out quickly. Although I don’t shop at Target often, I noticed the one here doesn’t take cash so the cashier had to come anyway. I wouldn’t have needed her if I was paying by credit card.
Karen, I would’ve thought the Dr. would have been aware of cheaper alternatives as well. It would have been helpful if the pharmacist brought it up too.
Gareth & Pinky, hi to you both!
Marsha, was the citrus oil a wood cleaner, preserver or both? That’s something I’ve been meaning to do with my oak kitchen cabinets. How many courses will DS take?
Robin, yes, I’ve heard that hip replacement is much easier to recover from. You wouldn’t think so, though! At this point, I feel it’s a few years off - but who knows. Did LI have a tornado or earthquake yesterday? Can’t remember which, but it was mentioned on the news.
I’ve requested through Overdrive “White Houses” by Amy Bloom. It’s about the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and the woman reporter Lorena Hicks.

Yes, Anngie, there was a tornado that touched down, but it was about 50 miles from me, much further out east. However, there were tornadoes that touched down here a few years ago.
