Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Chlly! Temp on TV showed 49, but my Weatherbug on my laptop says 53. Looks beautiful out, pure blue sky. Our a/c days might be over..
Did you all see that Dorothea Benton Frank passed away Monday? I just read it last night. How truly sad!! She was only 67, and had a quick bout of Leukemia. Has anyone read her book she put out this spring: Queen Bee?
Gareth, isn't that amazing, the price of those inhalers? Back when I tried to get it filled, and we still had DH employers health insurance plan, I was feeling really good. So I just blew it off, not worrying about it. That pain in my shoulder comes and goes, at weird times, especially during the night, so I truly believe it has something to do with my lung issue. So I will see how the steriod does. I know my DD2 and her DH swear by Chiropractors.
Marsha, yay, on the sale of the older car! One less car in the driveway spruces up the curb appeal. I love when adults do the first day of school picture! It is just as important to them, as the little ones. The treatment for Ild is taking the inhaler everyday, which I had quit for a few years, which is leading to having to see a lung specialist. They will do a pulmonary function test, which I am sure will be ok, especially since the appointment is October 2, after being done with the steriods. Otherwise there is no fix for Ild, and no cure, it is a sickness under the COPD umbrella of lung diseases, but a rare one. I had this, when I was diagnosed with the lung cancer, so in order to have the cancer removed, I had to get this under control first. No Costco membership. I have heard the Mejer has cheaper meds, but when it comes to Symbicort, just like Lyrica (which just recently had the trademark expire, so generics can be produced) was a very expensive drug, when there is no generic, the pharmacy, wherever it is filled has no choice but to pass it on to the consumer. That is how we lost the stand alone pharmacy we switched to out here in Howard, this past winter, after Shopko closed. (Lineville Health Mart). That pharmacy was eating the costs of the higher meds, (which was stupid of her), so just a few months later, she was basically bankrupt.
Carol, we were able to use those discount cards, back when DH was still working, and on his insurance plan. The kicker is they do not allow those when on Medicare. Which I totally do not understand, since it is a government plan, you would think that the discounts would work! What a bunch of crap! We use the self check whenever we have under 20 items. Which is a lot, as we tend to run to the stores frequently. It is rare for us to have a big cart full of food. I do not worry about self checks putting some employee out of a job, since there are other areas of the store they can use employees, plus with grocery stores there is such a high rate of turnover, they are always hiring.
Robin, maybe with you all living in such a high population area, the meds are a bit cheaper. You just mentioned one of my pet peeves!!! Lol, it never fails, when I do go into a line at the store, never fail, there is some reason for a hold up! That just happened at Walgreens the other day. The customer could not figure out how to use their card payment machine, THEN the checker HAD to ask if she had their rewards card....oh for crying out loud..the customer said yes, but did not know how to use it to get points. All I was getting was some cough drops, so I finally told the checker that I would come back later, and walked out. Sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder how those people function in our tech world.
Anngie, that is one of the reasons I am tempted to switch doctors, but that is such a pain! I did that back in 2013, and it was not fun! I did look thru their directory of doctors yesterday, but back off. I hope you do not put the surgery off too long. That is what a lot of people (including myself with my knees) do, after a while you get kind of used to walking a certain way to adjust for the pain. It just doesn't do any good to put it off. Just plan on being out of circulation for awhile, and it just may surprise you how well you recover. Exercising before and after plays a big part of a fast recovery. I wish I had done more exercising before the surgery, I did some, but not as much as I should have.
I ended up not feeling well for a while yesterday morning, with that pain in my shoulder. DH went fishing for the day, so I was bound and determined to get better, to enjoy my day without my shadow. I had planned on going to the Y, which I could not do, but was able to run to Target to get a soft sided carry on suitcase. I really love it. Dug around the tots in the garage and found the fall/Halloween decorations from the old house, and brought those up. Made scalloped potatoes and ham for dinner. So my day alone turned out very nice. There is a Packer game tonight, which you all know I hate night games, so I expect to hear yelling and swearing coming out of DH bedroom, lol.
I have started a new book, one of my holds: Appearances, by Sondra Helene. Not too bad, but I think I am reading it because one of the characters has Stage IV lung cancer.
Running to the Y this morning, to do the weight machines, won't get in any cardio, as I have to be easy on my lungs right now, and today starts the football contest there, that I signed up to be in, so I have to go do my picks.
Have a nice day everyone.

Skipped my walk this morning. I didn't get out of bed. It was chilly in the room and comfy under the covers. Mitzi made her mitzi noise at about 6 and then went back to sleep. I wonder if she was asking if we were going.
Anngie - I used something by Pledge that I think said wood restorer. It is in a spray bottle. I've been working on my kitchen cabinets, too. As I've said before, I'm a terrible housekeeper and layers of grease built up on the hood over the stove. I didn't realize until I set my hand there and it was sticky. I don't know if I'm doing what I should be doing but I'm scrubbing with a dilution of Murphy Oil Soap. Unfortunately I think I'm taking off the finish, too, but I found that if I spray with that Pledge stuff it seems to take care of the unfinished problem. I hope. I'm still working on the scrubbing part but I tested the spray in one corner and it looked ok.

Busy morning at work. Home now until I go back later this afternoon. Since I couldn't get the form to upload to send to the courthouse about my jury summons I had to take it there after work yesterday. That's the form my hearing aid place filled out about my hearing loss. I was so surprised that just after I got back home they'd already texted me that I'm excused from jury duty. I thought I'd be waiting awhile so I'm glad I heard back that quick. That was a big relief. I never thought I'd ever see a benefit from my hearing loss.
Karen, I'd heard about Dorothea Benton Frank. So sad. I've read several of her books. I didn't know she had a new book out so I'll have to check that out.

Karen, I heard about Dorothea Benton Frank. I did read Queen Bee. Some loved it, for me it was good, not great. A little slow for me for that kind of book. Hope your shoulder feels better.
Marsha, I think almost every housekeeper doesn't realize how much grease ends up building up around the stove, or anywhere in the kitchen. I know my cabinet handles, which are wood, should be cleaned off better, but I don't spend the time to do it.
Gareth, I thought I missed reading about your jury duty, but then remembered we had a whole discussion about it.
We had a good book club discussion last night. Sometimes a good discussion makes a book that wasn't great to read so much better. Our next book is The Other Wes Moore. Has anyone read it?
I brought DS's car to the auto repair shop today, his AC isn't working. I am also taking care of getting his windshield replaced, but they will just come to the office and do it here. A pebble must have popped up and hit it. I decided to put off having the automatic garage door in DM's house replaced for another 2 weeks. I will have to stay around while it is being done. I told the realtor we would fix that. The process in NY is much more drawn out when it comes to signing contracts than in most other places. Lawyers prepare the contract, send it to the buyer's lawyer, they sign and send back with a down payment, then the seller signs.

Wow, 49 degrees! That sounds wonderful. It is in the 90s here.
Oh, I didn't know you couldn't use the discount coupons with Medicare. I think I must have good insurance. I have psoriasis and use a prescription foam when I have a breakout on my scalp. Whenever I refill it, I have to wait a day or two because they don't have it in stock. The doctor said it was because it was so expensive that it wasn't prescribed often. It cost me $5.00! One of my other doctors retired and one of the reasons was because of the elderly people having trouble paying for their meds. He said it was heartbreaking and it made him mad-the hoops people had to jump through to get what they needed.
I think I have read a couple of Dorothea Benton Frank books. 67 isn't old anymore.
I had a special order at Lowe's not too long ago. They print out the info and you pay for it at checkout. Well, the cashier kept putting in my order number but the price wouldn't come up. It turns out the person who entered the order forgot to do one thing that kept the price from showing up. People were getting mad that it was taking so long. I started to apologize, but I realized it wasn't my fault or the cashier's fault and getting upset with either one of us wasn't going to help or make it go faster.
I had forgotten that some of the self checkouts at Target are cards only. I had trouble there once because I was buying something off a wedding registry and I couldn't take off the list at self checkout. The employee told me I should have asked and I said they could put a notice up letting people know and that I couldn't ask because she wasn't where she was supposed to be. I do love the self checkouts at Sams.

Robin, I looked up The Other Wes Moore. Doesn't sound like my kind of book. I also looked up Queen Bee. Think I burned out on her books. After awhile I think they all seem alike.
I don't understand why you can't use discount coupons with Medicare. I was really surprised when i'd tried shortly after being on Medicare. I've never used the self service checkouts. Do you really think the cashiers saved are put to work elsewhere?

Why wouldn't you be able to use discount coupons if you don't run the prescriptions through medicare? When we use the discount program at the pharmacy we currently use, we don't go through our insurance. I think that is one place they save money, not having to process as much through the insurance programs.

I checked out my DH's inhaler, and also searched online, and apparently not all inhalers are the same. His is Breo, but it is a different medication.
