I wonder if I got it because I had taken part in a summer pilot program. Non disclosure agreement and all. Apparently the results are being evaluated and will inform the upcoming changes to take place. My app was modified, so possibly this is a holdover from that. We shall see....

I googled ww living on blue...took me to a BCBS MN notice to subscribers. If your dr shows you have a BMI of 30 or more you are required to join one of two programs. A walking program with Web MD and a Fitbit or WW. If you choose not to participate your copay and out of pocket goes up. You must participate until your BMI drops below 30. BCBS pays for the costs. More details at the site. Interesting notice to their insurance subscribers.

Well that’s strange....not sure that’s what WW means by Living on Blue. I’m thinking it has more to do with how they referred to the current plan during the pilot.

Is it just me or is that language a bit harsh on that pamphlet?

debsback, It seems like it may be coincidence that some BCBS affiliates have a program by that name that involves WW. When I read the document, I noted that it is for an HMO, not a free choice plan. The printing date on the document is November ’18, so this has been around way before whatever WW is doing currently. And yes, DebDoesWW, I was completely put off by the language and whole concept. Talk about demonizing weight and size!

Is it just me or is that language a bit harsh on that pamphlet? BCBS is definitely pushing its members to participate in some kind of weight-centered self care. The DayJob had some kind of similar thing, but it was only implemented at the HQ location - not at the other two print plants or with any provision for its "remote workers". Couldn't even get the tee-shirt...

Is it just me or is that language a bit harsh on that pamphlet? In some ways I can appreciate the tough love stance, but since it's coming from a business whose profit is maximized by NOT providing care and I find it highly shameful that any company should profit on not providing care that could mean life or death to many, it irks me that they are being harsh. They're being harsh because they'll make less money, not because they actually care about their participants ' health.

They're being harsh because they'll make less money, not because they actually care about their participants ' health. The “tough love” approach had occurred to me. But then thinking about it a bit, it sounded like plain old discrimination against people who don’t fit the weight/BMI model. Under their approach anyone with a medical issue that precluded their achieving the stated BMI would be penalized financially; perhaps, as you say, meaning they could be deprived of medical care because of the increased out-of-pocket cost. ETA: And why, today, would BC be partnering with WW when WW is currently operating in a manner that focuses on body-image comfort with or without the goal of weight loss!

From Zazzles: "ETA: And why, today, would BC be partnering with WW when WW is currently operating in a manner that focuses on body-image comfort with or without the goal of weight loss!"
I was roaming on the WW site and came across a statement that everything they teach is for weight loss. They speak from both sides of their corporate mouth, depending on whose wallet they are addressing.

So there was another iPhone app update yesterday.....and that reference to Living on Blue is now gone. I’m going to stick with the current plan until the changes are made. But I’m feeling less than thrilled with the way the meetings are going. Our meeting leader gave up her Saturday sessions so we have a new one who looks at the clock and divided the meeting into three time frames...one for celebrations, one for the topic, one for (I forgot). Very sparsely attended today.
