6. Take a self-care trip. Taking a self-care trip can make a huge difference in your life. Even if you’re not feeling particularly stressed, getting away for a weekend every now and then can help you disconnect, relax, and be rejuvenated. These self-care trips don’t have to be costly; simply drive to the next town over and see the sights, or go camping nearby. The goal is to veer away from your normal schedule and take the time to do something just for yourself.
7. Take a self-care break by getting outside. Spending time outside can help you reduce stress, lower your blood pressure, and be more mindful. Studies have even shown that getting outside can help reduce fatigue, making it a great way to overcome symptoms of depression or burnout. Getting outside can also help you sleep better at night, especially if you do some physical activity, like hiking or walking, while you are outside.
8. Let a pet help you with your self-care. article continues after advertisement Pets can bring a boost to our lives. From giving unconditional love to providing companionship, pets can be hugely beneficial for our self-care. Dogs especially can help reduce stress and feelings of anxiety and can even lower blood pressure. In fact, many people who suffer from disorders like PTSD have benefited from working daily with animals, which is why service dogs have become so helpful for these individuals.

6. Take a self-care trip. Might be a good idea to get away sometimes but...we usually don't go out and about and seem to do less as we get older
7. Take a self-care break by getting outside. I used to sit on the porch swing but as hubby grew more trees and flowers there were more bugs and flies...might have to try it again sometime but...hate bug bites!
8. Let a pet help you with your self-care. Loved having the two cats in the basement BUT when they both died hubby nixed animals inside and as I don't like outside...the outside cat is out and I am in...

6. Everytime I think or hear about a "girls weekend", I remember my late & best friend ever, Sandra. We were best friends for 60 yrs until she passed away a couple of years ago. When we were both young mothers (she had 4 children, I had 3), and we both had extremely stressful, full-time day jobs, we used to fantasize about just getting in the car & driving off to parts unknown for a few days, we were planning on coming back, we just needed a few days to ourselves! Of course, we never did it, talk about Thelma & Louise!
7. I love being outside, we love to spend time on the porch, but the latest and on-going heat wave has sent us inside.
8. I have a dog. Love him! he is so funny, he keeps us laughing. He is really a good little boy. He is an overweight dachshund. He is very sweet & makes friends wherever he goes.

Take a self care trip - DH and I used to go camping a lot in the summer. In the winter were ski trips 2 or 3 times. I loved them both. I haven't done much of any kinds of trips since I've been alone. I do go see my daughters sometimes, and sometimes a friend and I will attend an event some place.
Taking a break outside - This I do a lot in the summer. I'll sit out on my deck or in the shade of a tree with a cool drink and just enjoy the day. In winter, not so much. I barely stick my nose outside unless I have to shovel snow, go get the mail, or I have to do grocery shopping in town.
Have a pet - I have a cat who came to my door a couple years ago. I am a cat person and love having him around. Before that we had a cat that lived to be 16. DH found him out on the road in the middle of nowhere when he was just a tiny kitten. We had him until 2010. He was an orange tabby, and such a delight to have around.

6. Travel - I always feel odd saying it, but travel is not something I enjoy all that much. I do enjoy getting together with a friend for a day or an afternoon, sometimes we do meet somewhere between where we each live but not a weekend or longer trip.
7. Outdoors - I do enjoy getting outdoors. Gardening and other lawn/yard care, going out with the dogs, walking with the dogs. A dream addition to the house would be a 3 season porch to be able to enjoy a bit of outdoors more comfortably in the summer when insects are bothersome. I don't even mind getting out to shoveling snow in the winter all that much. Hmm...not sure all of those sound like they'd be self care when they are more like chores...but it works for me!
8. Pets - I know I've mentioned our dogs a lot. Definitely enjoy them....walking with them, going to classes, volunteering and just having them around. They all have different personalities - one is very calm and likes to sit or lay by us, one is more energetic and likes to play. The third is still more like a rambunctious youngster - so our time is sometimes spent teaching and learning.

I live about an hour from the Pacific Ocean. Especially when I still had Libby, I would just decide to drive out there for the day. Or driving around a bit of the countryside on the back roads. Once when my parents were visiting, my mom and I went about 40 miles away (south) on the interstate to a plant nursery and then just headed west (somewhat toward home) on back roads. I told my mom we had a full tank of gas, something to quench our thirst and if we hit the ocean before we hit my house, at least we would know where we were.
I love sitting outside, but I usually see some weed that needs pulling and don't end up sitting very long.
There is nothing more soothing that having/petting a purring cat on your lap. Cinders is most definitely a lap cat (when it is her choice) and in the evenings if she is on my lap, I don't even want to get up because it will disturb her.

Dh and I love fall getaways to Breckenridge. We’ve got reservations the first week in October. I think the leaves will be at peak since they haven’t turned yet. Yay!
