Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Foggy in spots here, high of 79 expected.
Want to just mention, off the top, we are having a lot of views, this past weekend there were 154 total, yesterday there were 125! Wouldn't it be nice for some of those people to stop in and say HI?! We really are a great, friendly group of ladies, spread out around the U.S.A.
Gareth, I agree about the walks, very nice to have the weather to walk. Sheet washing day for you today, isn't it? I think I have one load of laundry waiting for me to get in the washer. Hope your DH isn't get sick....I can tell when DH does not feel well, his taste changes.
Pinky, I feel so bad for you, your DH, and all the farmers out by you, affected by this horrible weather this summer. I hope you don't run out of time, getting all the crops in, when they are finally ready. Pinky, you are not a Debbie Downer!!! If anyone is, it has been me, with all my depressing talk of my DH and DB!!! We all feel your pain. Your book club meeting sounded so nice!! That is the kind of club I would like to go to, in fact, now that I think of it, there should be a book club that meets at a wine bar, lol!
Marsha, thanks for the info, about the pool. So DD is all settled in for the year?
Carol, thank you. I think DB quit smoking a couple years ago, but after all these years of doing it, the damage is done. Sounds like your DGS is a very good boy.
Robin, sorry about the game and so sorry about the quarterback!!! Hope the back up is pretty good.
Anngie, I think we all are getting very nice weather for a change. Yay! It's about time. DH was taking vicodin, coming home from the hospital, which he is now done with. He does have his tramadol, if needed. I am still reading the book, last night I got off track and googled a couple things that were mentioned in the book, and the funny thing is, it came up on google that it was not an actual person, so other people must have been googling too. Then I read a write up about Eleanor, her life and all (a factual account) and it was strange that not anywhere in that story, her relationship with Hick was not mentioned!
We saw DB yesterday, he was moved out of ICU, and seems to be doing pretty good. He has his moments, where we can see his brain is not functioning correctly, but over all, it is a heck of a lot better than last week. He thinks he is going home tomorrow. When we got home, I called my sister, since she is power of attorney, she will have to be involved in that, if it is true. I do not think he can go home and live by himself right now.
I finally have my teeth cleaning this afternoon, this appointment was scheduled for February, but I had to reschedule, since knee surgery was just a month before. For dinner tonight, we are meeting our elderly close friends and their son, daughter in law, and grandson, at the Atrium at Lambeau field, and eating at 1919 Kitchen and Tap. Expensive but good food.
DD just texted me to see if I can come over tomorrow at 6:30 am, she has another stomach test to go to, so Lilly needs to be seen to school. I will add that to the long list of things on our calendar...crazy month. Can't wait till October 2nd, as my breathing is starting to get out of hand, and that up back pain came back and kept me awake during the early morning hours today. October 2nd is the pulmonary function test.
Yikes, I really rambled on, didn't I?
Have a super Tuesday everyone.

Terribly hot and humid here today---it was already 77 degrees and very humid at 6 am. Crazy---sounds like by this weekend the humidity will move out---look out those of you to the east---and be in the 70's, which is my kind of weather.
Bookclub was great last night----excellent discussion and excellent food so a win win!! Everyone really liked the book and I have to say as I got into it more I enjoyed it as well and the discussion made be like it even more. I think this may have been a book I wished I had read and not listened to but if I had read it I may have not got it finished either with all we have had going on. So someday when I have nothing to do---LOL---I might read it over. The group is interested in reading the next book The Rosie Effect. Our next book however will be The Round House which I mentioned yesterday.
Carol---your DGS sounds like such a little sweetie, they are so much fun aren't they??
Robin---sorry your game didn't end better. I bet you are exhausted with all you had going on.
Anngie---your weather sounds wonderful. Yes I really did not enjoy The Rosie Project to begin with but it did get better. As I mentioned above I think it might be a book I would have rather actually read than listened to. About our SD weather--we always say "SD--land of infinite variety".
Karen---thanks! Our bookclub is so much fun and I hate when I miss being able to go. It is such a fun night always with friends. I still love the saying "WHY does my wine club always insist on talking about books"----LOL!!!! No wine last night as the place we were at didn't serve alcoholic beverages but their coffee was fantastic. They had regular and decaf for each ones likings and pretty much any kind of coffee drink one would like. Glad to hear you are seeing improvement in your DB and he is on the mend. Guessing he has a long way to go so amazes me he thinks he can go home---but they boot them out of the hospital so fast anymore you just never know. I am so excited for you as your next week is approaching to take off for a few days---you deserve it. Trying to remember for sure but I think you had decided not to do the walk, right??
So much crazy stuff going on around here with health and accidents I cannot even believe it. Two gals that are friends of mine, not best friends but friends have both found small lumps in their breasts by coincidence more than anything. They have both had lumpectomies as they were quite small and the one has just finished radiation and the other will soon start. The DH of our hostess last night and I think I had mentioned about him awhile back and why bookclub had been delayed is that he had a brainstem stroke. This means the arteries plugged or involved are in the back of the head/neck and not in the front neck where the common stroke comes from. The artery on his one side is 100% plugged and there is nothing that can be done for it and the other side is 70% plugged in his case. It is very risky to put a stint in the back so it is not a great solution. Right now he is on medication to try to either clear the 70% one or reroute the blood flow and nothing can be done for the 100% blockage. He is home and has been for a few weeks, so they pretty much just continue to wait and see. Mornings are tough and he has bad bouts of vertigo and dizziness which is what took him to the hospital for the stroke diagnosis as it was so bad. He has been doctoring for 3 years for vertigo and looks now like this blockage and possible other small strokes has been to blame the whole time. I have never heard of this so something new to learn about. He is 5 years older than DH and I and he has been my neighbor my whole life. Scary stuff. On the accidents not anyone I know at all but there have been 5 people(4 were teeenagers} killed in 3 different car accidents and one person killed in a 4-wheeler accident within 2 days all within 90 miles of my house. This morning I woke to hear a 43 year old female was killed early this morning right in Watertown when her car collided with a 16 year old's who is now in life threatening condition. This happened before 5 am so sounds kind of fishy to me as to why a 16 year old is out at that time of the morning especially when he is from ND. Seems to me speed had to played a huge part for such a tragedy right in town. This is very unusual to have so much tragedy all so close by especially coming off from last weeks tornado's in SF and the flooding in Madison, so a lot for us little town people to absorb.
I best get a move on as I have more lawn to mow, had to quit early last night to get cleaned up and to bookclub. I am dreading the humidity out there today but at least there is a breeze. DH and DS#1 are at a meeting today and tomorrow so that is nice.
Karen--now look at who rambled on---we must have a lot on our mind today!!

I quickly read back to Friday afternoon and the weekend. Karen, so sorry about your DB. From what you said, he's single, right? I would imagine that many single men who don't have a wife bugging them to get something checked out by the doctor just ignore symptoms. If your DB is going to give you Power of Attorney because your DS & DB don't stay in the area for the whole year, you should get it sooner rather than later to make sure he can acknowledge what he is signing. Do you know if he has anything in the way of assets? If so does he have a will? It is so hard to talk to people about these things, but it sounds like he might need things in place. I am glad your DH was feeling good enough to go to the Packers game. I didn't pay attention to how they did. The Jets game last night was just horrible, but we left at half time and had an easy ride home, but were just so tired from the weekend. We also were a bit disorganized so forgot things we needed for the tailgate, but that all worked out anyway.
Pinky, I agree with the attitude that if someone lives into their 90's, you can't say that it is a terrible thing that they have passed away, no one lives forever.
Marsha, I had no idea what you meant by deep water conditioning. I used to be a great swimmer, but not sure that is something I would want to do now. However, water aerobics or other water exercises might be good for Karen. They take the pressure off. Sorry you didn't get too much time with Danielle, but that's what happens once the sorority year starts. My friend who's DD got married on Sunday grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee, and met her DH at UW Madison. He was from Long Island, so they moved here when they got married. We talked about that at the wedding, I guess even then it was a popular school from around here.
Gareth, I can imagine that sometimes going to work for you feels like a rest. Glad you put Good Girl, Bad Girl on your list.
Anngie, we are having beautiful weather here too, now it's sunny, but yesterday it was not. I can be totally different for you and me, as you are far enough north of us that things can change.
I still think there are some things I might have missed. Karen, about your DB, not sure if his doctor might recommend rehab. Sometimes they make different recommendations based on a person's living arrangements. As I am thinking you might know, my husband's area of law is Elderlaw. There is a large and very active Wisconsin state chapter of the National Academy of Elderlaw attorneys, so in case you are in need to that, he may have a recommendation for you. Maybe even if it is someone to have a consultation with.
I started reading the book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It is by the same author as Daisy Jones and the Six, and I am enjoying it so far. It is not exactly the same writing style as Daisy, but not too far off. I also came up for something called Evvie Drake Starts Over, which is supposed to be a light read.

Pinky, it took me so long to type yours popped up after. Now you have me worried more because I am having bits of vertigo. I have been to an ENT specialist about this before, and have another appointment on October 2nd. I will see if they have an opening earlier. It is crazy about the car accidents happening. Although I am sure that if I went a 90 mile radius I would find many, I just heard about a local woman here who was killed in a car accident about a month ago. She was the next door neighbor of one of the lawyers who works with us. Last week our friend who has lymphoma had a bone marrow transplant, or the beginning stage of what they do for a bone marrow transplant. I am not too sure, but he stays in the hospital for about a week, and then has to stay somewhere that is like a Ronald McDonald house sponsors by Cancer Care. He can only come into contact with limited people, and can only eat food that has been prepared a certain way where they know there won't be any bacteria. Not sure I even know to explain it right.

Beautiful, sunny morning for my walk. Nice breeze too. Getting into the 80's and humid again later. Getting a haircut early afternoon. It doesnโt seem like it's been four weeks already but it's needed. I'm getting shaggy. Then it's work mid afternoon. I'm really enjoying Here To Stay. I'll have to look for more of Mark Edwards' books.
Karen, I'm so predictable so yes, you're right it was sheet washing day. They're back on the bed now. I also did another load of laundry too. Other things I need to do too before my hair cut so no more time to talk....

Karen - do I remember correctly that db lives alone? It will be interesting to see if the hospital releases him knowing there is nobody there to help. I think a rehab is likely. His recovery does sound amazing.
Pinky - so sorry to read about your list of tragedies. Time for this to all let up for a while. Teens are often at school very early for conditioning or practice for sports so it's probably not all that unusual that the girl was out driving at 5am.
Robin - the deep water conditioning class is taught in the diving tank. We use flotation belts so we are not using our own momentum to keep ourselves afloat. There is water jogging and a variety of other similar moves, and resistance work to work the muscles sometimes just using the water and sometimes using those floaty weights. It's no impact which is nice. I, too, have been having issues with vertigo. It's predictable for me, in bed when you tense all your muscles in a stretch - that triggers it. Lying flat triggers it. I was concerned about swimming but that was ok when I swam last week. I think it is the crystals in my ears and has not been troubling enough to go see about it.
I gave up on The Dog Stars. Didn't seem to be going anywhere. I started The Museum of Extraordinary Things but I am only a few pages in. Does anyone else have anxiety when it's time to start a new book? For some reason I am not always ready to jump right in knowing that the first chapter will probably set the scene but likely not be very exciting. I prefer to be in the middle of a book. Also listening to The Kill Shot (Mitch Rabb) which, incidentally, did start out exciting.

Not much going on around here. It seems like accidents around here are caused by DWI or speeding. I am always suspicious when an accident takes place late at night or real early in the morning like at 3 a.m. I think those are usually from drinking. One of my friends was rear-ended by a woman texting. My friend was stopped at a light and a woman just rammed her because she wasn't paying attention. Both cars were totaled, but no one was hurt. My friend got a new car with every safety feature imaginable.
It's hot. Late Thursday we are supposed to get a little rain so it will be hot and humid. Our town has a fall festival every September. I wish it was a little later because it is supposed to be 90 on Saturday. Even if it was in October, though, it wouldn't necessarily be cool. The good thing is there is a library used book sale and it is indoors.
Accidentally shut one of the cats in the garage yesterday. We have two and they sleep all over the house so it wasn't unusual that I didn't know where he was. The other cat went and sat in front of the door and just stared. I opened the door and the other cat came in. He was panting a little, but didn't show any signs of heat problems. I'm sure how long he was in there, maybe an hour.
The only time I remember having vertigo was when I was having my ears cleaned out. I had had an ear infection and the doctor told me to come in after the infection cleared up so that's why I was having it done. He had done one ear and before he could do the second, the nurse told me there was a phone call. It made me dizzy I guess because one ear was clear and the other was clogged. He wasn't out for long.
I am reading Grace Will Lead Us Home. It is about the Charleston church shooting in 2015. It is very good. I think I will need something light next.

Marsha, the vertigo I have now is only momentary, but very annoying. Most often it is in bed and I know it is going to happen. I am more comfortable lying on my left side, as my right shoulder is bothering me, and when I turn on my left side I feel myself spinning. It happens sometimes from just things I have no idea why about, but lasts only a few seconds. For the deep water conditioning, as long as I was trying to keep myself afloat, it would be good.
Gareth, I will have to look into Mark Edwards.
Carol, I can definitely understand accidentally shutting the cat in the garage. We have accidentally let the dog get outside, and when I say we I most likely mean my DH. Funny that once the dog sat by the front door and started barking. Once it was dark out, my neighbor called to say he thought the dog was out, I went to put the back lights on, and there the dog was, sitting by the sliding door to the kitchen. I agree that a lot of accidents have something to do with drunk driving, although with this woman, I have no idea, I think she could have watched more closely to make sure that the truck that was on the service road actually stopped. She might not have been driving defensively enough.

Robin - your vertigo sounds like mine. I know it's coming, there is some sensation in my head, almost like a vibration. It lasts 5-10 seconds then gone.
