Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Our summer weather continues. There is fog in some areas, but not for all. High of 80.
Pinky, your late summer sounds uncomfortable. The warmth here feels different, with the sun moving already, it is not quite so hot of a sun. That poor guy with the stroke!!! That is sad. Oh, I would be loving the quiet, these 2 days of yours!! Hope you get the lawn done.
Robin, my DH is really pushing my older sister to get that all done, with the Power of Attorney. She is a very nice sister, but she knows she is the oldest so I have taken to treading lightly with her. That stinks about your quarterback. Good luck with your vertigo....I remember when I had it, just at bedtime, but it did go away, eventually.
Gareth, have a nice walk....take care in that heat, so take water with you. That is one thing I always forget. Well at least your sheets are all washed for the week!
Marsha DB lives alone. I will finish up about him later. I too could hear the crystals in my ears, never had that before, so I truly did not know what I was dealing with, to me it was scary. I was so glad when it went away.
Carol, I had to laugh, about shutting the cat in the garage. I am not a cat lover, so to me, that is right where they belong, or on the farm in the barn, chasing mice.
In a rush here, since I have to be at DD house in 1 hour.
DB is getting discharged today. He is well enough, according to insurance procedures, so out he goes. He can not drive, or cook. Not supposed to be alone. So I will go do his grocery shopping tomorrow, I told him to make a list, of items like microwaveable sandwiches, things like that. Sister is taking him today. They are focusing on his brain, so no more cancer cells go up there so in a week or so they will start radiation. Then look at treatment for the lung cancer. He also has liver cancer. The way the Oncologist was talking, you could read between the lines, (all of us, except my sister...she is a little on the dense side), so DB finally asked her: How long do you think I have? She hedged around and finally said, maybe around a year. This winter will be a tough one, as he will be doing chemo, and both my sister and other brother are leaving next month, to spend the winter down south. So my brother is stuck with me and my DH. I have never looked so forward for next summer so bad!! I just want to fast forward thru all I know us 3 will be going thru.
Need to get going, have a nice day!

Stopping by early day today. Waiting for it to at least start getting light before heading out to walk. Why am I even awake so early?! Tomorrow I have to be to go to work so this morning it would’ve been nice to sleep just a little later. It'll be nice walking early but getting hot and humid again later in the high 80's.
Talking about vertigo I get that occasionally if I get up too suddenly. From what I understand it's from a sudden drop in blood pressure. I've had longer bouts of vertigo when I've been sick. I hate that light headed, dizzy feeling. I have a couple of friends that suffer from Meniere's that causes vertigo. When I say suffer they do when they have a bout with it since it's chronic.
Karen, will you and and your family be taking turns staying with DB for awhile?
Waving hi to everyone. Gotta get dressed and think about heading out.....

Karen - it's going to be a tough go with your brother. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Too much illness.
Not much going on here. I didn't even do any reading last night. I feel like there is somewhere I'm supposed to be tonight but I don't know where - haha - I hope I figure it out!
I went to the Y this morning - deep water conditioning - thought about some laps after but wasn't feeling it so I just went home and had time to do a load of laundry before work.

Karen, that is going to be so hard on you, I don't know how you can be the one to take the full responsibility. As far as getting his affairs in order, there are things that the person who has a Power of Attorney cannot sign, such as a will. And, your sister is not going to be around anyway, so I think at least you should be the alternate. It sounds like he gave you his health care proxy though.
Marsha, mine is more of a true spinning, not a vibration, but very short lived. I spoke to my doctor on the phone and she thought it could be from a sinus infection, and I suppose I could call her back and make an appointment to stop in before Oct 2nd, but that will be here before we know it.
Gareth, I don't think for me it's a drop in blood pressure. The more I think about it, maybe I should see a different ENT even though this one was recommended highly. I have the ringing in my ears, I have just gotten used to it, but he did not call it Menieres, and there is nothing really to do about it. Cutting back on salt is supposed to help, but it honestly doesn't seem to. I am just used to it. It is worse some times than others, but nothing I can put my finger on.
This morning I got to my DM's house at about 8:45, the garage door person was supposed to be there at 9. He ended up not coming until 9:45, and when I called at 9:15 they said they didn't know who would make an appointment with me for 9, the installers don't get out that early. I did some reading though when I was sitting and waiting. I am really enjoying The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

Robin - the vibration sensation is what happens immediately before the room starts spinning. Wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

Karen--so sad about your DB. I hope this turns into a I'm so glad I could be here for my DB situation. Doesn't seem fair that you have to do it all for him once your siblings leave, but on the good side I am thinking about (Did you said that he really hadn't been with family much) this could be a time you will always cherish spending this time with him. I hope it can go that way and not become a chore, and I think it can if he opens up somewhat and appreciates you and your DH's help. Your siblings in the end will possibly be the ones that miss out. Hugs DF and I hope this all works out for you. Your DH must be feeling pretty good as well. I did get my lawn mowed or most of it. I could go out and spend another hour on it down by some of our outer buildings but think I will give it a day or two.
Gareth---my DM had Meniere's disease, she only had one serious bout with it but it was nasty. Sounds like vertigo is much more common than I realized.
Marsha----don't you hate when you cannot remember what it is but know there is something happening. I did this last Saturday and never did figure anything out so guessing it was nothing. Hope you remember.
I hope I didn't miss anyone as I have had a break since I began this post. Twin DGD's are here for a couple of hours while DDIL and DGS are at dentist appts. Can't believe they will be 3 in November and they just get cuter all the time. They are very busy though and keep Grandma on her toes. I have been feeling much better but after mowing all day yesterday I feel more stuffed up, guessing more allergy than cold related.

Robin--I see you snuck in there. Meniere's disease is an inner ear infection from what I remember when my DM had it. Ringing in the ears is called tinnitis I believe. Good you could sneak some reading in while waiting. Can't remember if you are having a new door installed or a repair. Is your DM's house close to being sold now?

Robin----this is what I got when I googled it. Sounds like your symptoms--- www.webmd.com › brain › what-is-meniere-disease Nov 24, 2018 - Ménière's disease is an inner-ear condition that can cause vertigo, a specific type of dizziness in which you feel as though you're spinning. It also can cause ringing in your ear (tinnitus), hearing loss that comes and goes, and a feeling of fullness or pressure in your ear. Usually, only one ear is affected. Didn't think this was so much like my DM's but this is what she was diagnosed with and never had another bout so makes me wonder.

Pinky, with Meniere's, it is not something you can have a bout of, so your DMIL might have really had something else. I have a problem with stuffiness in one ear, although the ringing seems like it is both. The dizziness is more likely to come when I turn on the side that has the ear problem.
I am feeling like an old lady, complaining about these things.

Karen, sorry about your brother. Is he going to have someone with 24/7? My ILs used Home Instead. They don't do medical, but help with meals, laundry, housekeeping and running errands. They were wonderful and expensive. Someone told me to always go through a agency or business to get someone to help at a house because they would be bonded and the agency would be responsible for their insurance, etc. I guess Robin would know about this.
Really not much going on.

Oh Karen, this is just so sad all the way around. Hang in there, you know we’re all here to listen! How old is he? How well did he take the news? Thankfully you won’t miss your getaway next week. I wonder if he’d be better at an assisted living facility.
Boy, we all have (or had) something or other haven’t we! This sciatica I’m experiencing for the first time isn’t going away as fast as I’d like it either. People that I’ve know who had it says it goes eventually but comes back on occasion. My friend, who is an R.N., says it’s possible it won’t go away - gee thanks!
I remember my DM once saying everything’s good until you hit 60 - and she was right!
I finished White Houses and will now just concentrate on On Folly Beach. The next one might be The Boston Girl.

Anngie, I took something called Meloxicam for sciatica, it is a prescription that you take once a day for 15 days, and also did some simple exercises while lying on my back. It worked for me. I had pain for a very long time because I was sure the doctor was going to tell me I needed a hip replacement, so didn't go. The x-ray showed that there was nothing wrong with my hip, it was all from my back. I had pain all the way down my leg.

Anngie - I've found that easy back stretches help sciatica. Have you seen a PT? Nothing tough or strenuous, just ease into them.
