BUT I LOVE Dr. Seuss! Such great memories of when the kids were small and them laughing and laughing when I would read Dr. Suess to them. Especially when I would do the really long pages in one breath (overacting of course for emphasis). Great memories. Do you have any childhood favorites or any your kids used to love? My girls loved "Pat the Bunny" (or maybe I was the one who love it) and the Eric Carle books, specifically "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". Another favorite was "Chika Chika Boom Boom".

I loved all the books mentioned. Also, my kids and I read all of the Richard Scarry books. When they were little, I got the book that named everything in the world, Best Word Book Ever. There was also one about Cars and Trucks and Things That Go. DGS used to love to read about everything that moved. But, one of the kids' favorites was the poem from Mother Goose Rhymes:
"Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a thief;
Taffy came to my house and stole a piece of beef;
I went to Taffy's house, Taffy wasn't in;
I jumped upon his Sunday hat and poked it with a pin.
Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a sham;
Taffy came to my house and stole a piece of lamb;
I went to Taffy's house, Taffy was away,
I stuffed his socks with sawdust and filled his shoes with clay."
Nice memories, reading books with the kids. I'm so pleased to know that DD is continuing the tradition of reading with her kids every night.

That Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss was the first book I ever learned how to read as a very small child.
I remember also liking Clifford the Big Red dog, Where the Wild Things Area, and the Curious George series.
I never had children, and it won't be happening. It's kind of sad that I never really read books to children. I taught English in Taiwan to children for a little while, but was never able to read American books to them. I never saw my nephews much when they were the right age for those books. I lived in CA or Taiwan or was just unavailable.

When my older daughter was a little older she and I read the Laura Engell's Wilder series together. I had never read them before so it was fun for both of us. We would take turns reading. With my younger daughter it was the Anne of Green Gables series.

When I was really little I had a little golden book called "Little Mommy." I can still recite most of it by heart. It's a little girl playing mommy and her pretend husband goes off to work and she stays home and washes dishes and does laundry and feeds the kids. I mean what's better than a book that teaches little girls how fun their life of housework is going to be right?
