Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Chilly, my weatherbug says 50, but I felt the chill in the apartment for the first time this morning, so I kicked on the electric fireplace to take the chill out, even got a robe and slipper socks on. Have already turned off the fireplace. Rainy day expected here today. (Same old, same old).
Robin, the end of November will be a year for us here. Sometimes it feels like a year, but other times I know the time has flown, with how busy this year has been. My DB would not want to live here, it is too big for him. He would be on his own to keep it clean, they are all 2 bedrooms, he wants a 1 bedroom. It looks like after the first year lease is up, you get the choice of the 3 ways of doing it. My sibs and I really want him in a senior citizen complex that would advance to assisted living. Once he is settled into his 2 different treatments, DH and I will pursue getting him to tour some of the facilities around the town. Remind me, as to how your office is set up, as you mention you will have to go downstairs for some clients coming in. Is there a break room upstairs?
Marsha, no we are not really looking to move any time soon. I did get in the habit of looking at all the new ones popping up. Did you hear about those townhouses going up at Tittle town? MY GOD! They START at $600,000!!!! Who in Green Bay can afford to live there? (Or want to, so close to the Stadium?!) We do not want to buy anything, even a condo. Good luck, I hope you were able to find a Badger's shirt. Lol, there were a lot of them up in Minocqua!!
Pinky, you can reroute one of those fat cattle over here to Wisco!!! Of course we do not actually eat that much beef anymore. I think the last time we ate beef was last weekend. I am a big chicken eater. DH goes once a week for 6 weeks for that bladder solution. Did you get over to the Farmer's Market? I won't be able to go to our big one, this morning, but I am putting it on my schedule to go next Saturday, thank you for reminding me.
Gareth, so sorry about the furnace, but as you say, it is probably something minor, since it is new. We have not had to turn on the furnace yet, it has been warm up here on the 2nd floor. Yesterday, I was just doing mindless work in the kitchen, while DH was gone, and I was so warm I opened the patio door! That didn't last too long tho. That's right, now that you say that, I remember you walking in the winter, except for that darned ice. Hope we have a nice winter this year!
Carol, I know it is because you are so used to the heat, but hearing that it cooled off and only 80 sounds funny to me, up here where 60 now would be nice! I remember my last bone density test, yes they are easy. How long does it take for you to get results? That is what I like about our clinic system, when the results come into our account with them online, they send us an email saying the results are there, so we can go in and look at them.
Anngie, yes, the bladder solution takes the place of chemo. I can see the difference in him, he is way more tired. At least it hasn't affected his eating, lol. Yes, I don't know what I would have done, without all of you to help me move!!! I noticed all the views a few days ago again, am amazed nobody stops in to say hello, and what they are reading.
Going to the Y soon, my last time doing the Nu Step with my sister, for this winter. We had gotten in the habit of meeting there on Saturday mornings and gabbing while doing that machine, but with my little brothers problem and everything else, we got away from it. So, we will meet today, and the end of next week they will be leaving to go back to Texas. With my cold I would prefer to stay home, but since it is the last one, I will make the effort to go. I need to get gas afterward, anyway.
All the kids are coming out this afternoon. DD1 asked me last night if it is ok if they leave early, (she did not say why, but I know her girls always have stuff going on, on the weekends) so of course I said sure.
We are so ticked, that our Badger football game (College) is being played on some station nobody has around here. Someone told me that if we have a smart TV (I think we do), you can go with your phone and get that channels app, and watch it on TV thru that....yeah, that is a bit over my head, lol!!! We shall see how that turns out.
Need to hustle, have a nice day.

Rainy morning so doesn't look like we'll be walking after I get home from work. Well, I will be walking but it'll be indoor. Our weather sounds similar to yours Karen. Furnace is fixed. Not sure exactly what the problem was but as long as it's good to go is all that matters to me. DH had to get a new phone. His was so locked up that even the Apple store experts weren't able to restore it which was just as well. That way it finally forced him to get a new phone. He'll love the bigger screen. Now if he just doesn't drive me too crazy with needing help with it.
Marsha, thanks for encouraging me to stick with The Silent Patient. As long as I know it gets better I am getting more into it.
With my Osteoporosis I have to have a yearly bone scan. It's done in the Drs office and after the test he goes over the results right away with me. I like that I know right away. I'm fortunate that with bi annual Prolia shots I'm pretty much holding my own.
Just looked at the clock. Gotta leave for work. Waving hi to everyone as I go!....

Hi Friends---rained off and on throughout the night and this morning. Looks like it is clearing out now and the wind is expected to pick up and blow quite hard. We are in a 25-40 mph zone and just a bit to the west of us they are saying up to 60mph. Guess we better put some rocks in our pockets. We went for breakfast this morning with DF's and didn't get back home until 10:30. Guess we had a lot to talk about---LOL!!!! We gals set at one table and the guys at another so it gives us girls some good lady talk. Today there were 5 of us gals and we did have some good discussions---love my girl time.
Anngie---I think it was you who asked about fat cattle----yes they are given as you called in a higher calorie diet, actually a feed guy comes and prepares a ration for them of corn, hay, distillers and some other feed mixed in to make them fat and they are sold to the market for slaughter ( I hate that term) but that is what it is called. Who knows maybe some of the black angus beef you buy in the store comes from us.
Marsha---guessing that has been hard for your DBIL to be in Australia with his clients in the US. An interesting life I'm sure.
Karen---Sure I can send a beef your way----maybe I can put a sign on him/her with your address and it will show up on your doorstep. Do you have a way to get it to the locker??? )L)LOL!!!! They just announced earlier in the week on CBS that beef is better for you than they thought. Should eat it 4 times a week now. Made DH's day when beef is promoted, of course if it was up to him you should have beef at least 7 times a week!! Yes I did get to the Farmers Market and stocked up on squash, potates, peppers and some tomatoes. This has been a bad year for carrots so they were out of them as they had very few. They did still have some green beans so bought a big bag of them as well.
Gareth---glad the furnace is fixed as next weeks temps do not sound good for us. Hope your DH likes his new phone, bet once he gets used to it he will love it. Good that your bone scan stays about the same.
I better get some cleaning done. Not sure that I will be back on here until later on Monday or Tuesday. We have church in the morning and a birthday party for a great nephew in Sioux Falls who is turning 4 in the early afternoon. Since DH and I have a crop insurance meeting in SF on Monday morning at 8 we may just stay down there tomorrow night. Have a great weekend everyone!

Quick hello here. This morning my DH was going to temple because it is the anniversary of his father's death, so I joined him, we had a quick bit to eat there at the luncheon. We had taken separate cars, so I went to BJ's from there for a bunch of stuff I neeeded. I was running out of Truvia, and that is one of the many things that is so much cheaper there, and they always have a coupon so the huge box is only $11.99. Their deli meats are very good also, and so much cheaper than the supermarkets. Of course if I throw it out because we haven't used it, that's no help.
Pinky, hope your DH does well with the cattle. Beef prices have gone up in the stores here I've noticed. We don't eat beef very often, but my DH would have it more if I made it. He could probably eat steak every day, and I could eat chicken.
Gareth, you have been getting a lot of rain lately, right? Sorry about the furnace, why do they always break in the beginning?
Karen, maybe after some chemo treatments for DB, the first round anyway, they will see how he is reacting and that might help him decide where to go. Our office is in a small house that was converted to a small office building. We have a conference room on the main level, with the receptionist desk and copy room. There is no elevator, so the rest of our offices are upstairs. Seeing as I am covering the receptionist/secretary job for the moment, I want to be downstairs when people are coming in for a meeting. Also, some of the things I need to do I have to do from that desk. We like having the main floor conference room because some clients use walkers or wheelchairs, or just don't walk well. It is a very convenient location for us, so with all our looking it is hard to find something that is just what we want.

Robin--is this where your office has been for sometime or have you moved to a new location? Not sure if I remember if you moved awhile back when you were looking for a new place or if you are still at the old place.

Yeah, 80 degrees isn't that cool, but you have to remember we are coming off the hottest recorded September. It's supposed to be much cooler and by next weekend, the high temps should be only in the 60s. We are going down to DDs next Saturday. We are going to the Dallas Arboretum. I think they have it fixed up for Halloween. We are looking forward to it.
Gareth, I took Prolia once. I really liked it especially since you only get it twice a year. I had one injection and when I called about the second injection, they told me my insurance wouldn't cover it. They wanted women to try at least 2 others meds before going to Prolia. I didn't really understand why. The shots were so easy. The bone density test I got before this last one was okay and I haven't been on any meds.
We don't eat very much beef either, maybe once a week, sometimes not that often. You know how it is though, sometimes you just want a good hamburger.
DH and I went to an estate sale this morning. It was one of those in a big house in a very good neighborhood and was packed with stuff. I think they had every piece of Tupperware ever made and more purses that I've ever seen in one person's house. The guy running the sale said it had taken them a month to go through the house. One employee said it took her a whole day to go through one bathroom because the drawers and cabinet were packed with stuff. It was like the wife bought a new curling iron, but didn't throw away the old one so there were like twelve of them.
DSIL's dad was coming through Texas last week and spent the night with DD and DSIL. DD told us today when we face-timed that DGS cried when his grandfather walked in. She said he has become wary of strangers. I don't if it a phase or if he is going to like me where it takes a while to be comfortable with new things especially new people.
No big plans tomorrow-just church.

Good morning. Another chilly morning, temp is 48, but we have yet to turn on our furnace. I had the fireplace heater on yesterday morning for around 15 minutes. As the day went on, with baking things, it got so warm up here, we had the patio door open.
Gareth, at least now you have the peace of mind that the furnace is fixed and ready to go. Hope you don't need it much this fall. Yay, on DH getting a new phone!!! I had to chuckle when you said he will be driving you crazy with it, I know exactly what you mean!! And, be prepared for that to last a long time, if your DH is like mine. The last time I had a bone scan, I had to go to the hospital. (They scheduled a mamo and scan around the same times, so I did one, then the other), wish it could be done at the doctor's office.
Pinky, your breakfast sounds like fun. That is interesting to hear, about beef. I had not heard anything about it, but one of the reasons we don't eat it like we used to is we were lead to believe it was not good for us, that chicken, and fish is the way to go. Have a great time at the birthday party.
Robin, you mentioned that you went to temple, then had something to eat there. That brought back memories of going to church (I still need to find us a new, and closer church) and then after service they would have what is called Fellowship hour. Those times were fun. That's right, you are now doing 2 jobs, instead of yours. Has it been overwhelming, at all? I can see why it is hard finding a place to replace what you have now, for an office.
Carol, my sister and her DH are leaving here, I think next Saturday, to go back to McAllen Texas. She will love the 60's, him not so much. He is hating our weather here, way too chilly for him. So he will be looking foward to warmer temps, but 60 might not be warm enough for him. Amazing how some people live....I often worry about passing away in my sleep, and my daughters coming in to clean my stuff out. I do not want to put them through any of that craziness. Aw...poor Grandpa! He must have felt bad, when DGS cried when he saw Grandpa. Maybe he will grow out of that quick. One of my grand daughters turned super shy, where she would hide behind her mommy when someone would walk in.
As it is now getting light out, I can see what a beautiful sky it is! No clouds, no rain!!! I may have to try and take a short walk. The lung doctor told me to start small, with 10 minute walks. I met my sister at the Y yesterday, and we did 30 minutes on the Nu Step, and that had me breathing hard. Not much else going on here today, after having all the kids over yesterday, I will enjoy the quiet.
Have a nice Sunday.

Karen, I doubt the Dr would want you doing 30 minutes on the Nu Step if he only wants you starting out 10 minutes walking. We've had our furnace on now since it was fixed along with the fireplace and electric blanket at night. After all the rain yesterday now it's supposed to be nice and in the 60's for the next few days.
Carol, our insurance covers Prolia since I canβt take any of the oral meds because of the type of colitis I have otherwise they wouldn't. I always see how much it costs before insurance covers it. Almost $1,800! Crazy the cost of drugs.
Looking forward to a lazy Sunday after a busy week. Last weekend was so busy it didn't even feel like the weekend. I prefer walking first thing but since we're not on a timetable we decided to wait and walk a little later this morning when it warms up. With our schedules it's the first time in awhile we'll be able to walk together.
Took awhile but I finally got into The Silent Patient. Glad now I stuck with it after what Marsha said.

It is not a nice day here, but not raining. Karen, most of the time they have a very nice lunch after services, bagels and lox, egg salad, tuna salad, fruit salad, and cookies of some kind. DH really liked being there because there are always people we know who we can talk to, and he feels very comfortable. When there is not a bar mitzvah, baby naming, or anything like that, the service is really not that long, and most people don't come at the very beginning. When we were kids it somehow dragged out and always seemed to last until about 1:00, but yesterday it was over at 11:30, and on weeks when it is really long it is still over before noon. People trickle in, so no one notices when you arrive. When we greet, we greet until 10:30. This morning I went to the cemetery, then some errands after. I have to run out now for something. I have a turkey breast for tonight, and a dish left over from last week that has sweet potatoes and carrots, so perfect as a side, and I also have left over roasted cauliflower.
Carol, I take Fosamax, it's once a week, but I really have to remember, and I skipped last week. I had a bone density test in the spring. I hate shots, so I am OK with this, which I better remember tomorrow!
Karen, I would bet you would really enjoy finding a closer church. When you get involved, it is such a nice social thing to do, and maybe you will meet new people who live closer to you.
Gareth, glad you are enjoying The Silent Patient. For me it was good, not great, but I know lots of people said they loved it. I am almost finished with Turn of the Key, I got to an interesting twist, so have to finish it up.

Unfortunately we really can't post good pictures here. I changed my Avatar to one from my younger DS's wedding.
