I've been counting calories for the last 6 weeks, and I'm slowly chipping away at the weight, 1/2 lb. at a time. The last time I counted calories, I was 18 and went to a diet doctor who gave me a packet of blue pills and told me to keep my calories around 800. It worked and I lost 19 lbs. Great! Of course, the pounds came back with a vengeance. I now allow myself a generous calorie allotment, and it's actually fun! On Freestyle, if you indulge in a slice of cake, you are punished. That'll be 24 smartpoints, please. Another thing, when counting calories, there are no extra weekly bonus points or confusing rollovers hanging around. Each morning you start fresh with a new set of calories, and it's a great new day.

knuckles491 I feel like 800 calories was not enough to survive every day on.I do find I like calorie counting better for the same reasons you listed.

No, it wasn't. I would have starved if it hadn't been for the amphetamine pills.

I only tracked calories briefly but I liked it better than freestyle for sure. One of the many reasons I loved the momentum plan. Easily know calories by points and vice versa.

This thread caught my eye for several reasons. First of all, I had happily returned to Freestyle because my cholesterol and blood pressure had gone up, my doctor and his dietician told me to cut sugar and saturated fat, so I blamed Pointsplus and returned to Freestyle. I have been happy on Freestyle because I am losing weight, and my blood pressure/ cholesterol was doing down. However, I have to be honest. It is a RESTRICTIVE way of eating because of the sugar/ sat fat punishment.I went to see a new doc today, as my old one is on vacation. I was disappointed to see my BP is up again. This doctor questioned me carefully, and I confide that I have been under a lot of personal stress lately. She feels that could be the issue with my BP, since I don’t have a previous history with high BP, and not necessarily the Pointsplus I was blaming. . She is of the belief that just cutting calories is an easy, efficient way of losing weight, when you lose weight your blood pressure usually goes down regardless of your diet, and she’s not a believer that saturated fats are bad. So I guess it all depends on which doctor you talk to! Seriously though, she said to make it easy on myself and if I think coconut oil is evil, just cut down!
She seriously got me rethinking what I’m doing and since I’m so stressed out, to just make dieting easier on myself. So your thread made me think of all this! Life is hard enough as it is. I might return to Pointsplus, as the formula was so easy (40 calories = 1point), I can figure them in my head. But the sugar’s got to go. Thanks guys!

Fin, I barely remember Momentum. Was it easy to figure the points like Pointsplus is?

Sheryl, it was even easier than PP! 50 calories average for each point, making it easy to convert in my head.

Sheryl, it was even easier than PP! 50 calories average for each point, making it easy to convert in my head. While most folks adopted the 50-calorie rule for ease of calculating in their heads, the accurate average was 38.

I believe we used 50 for Momentum and 40 (38 was more accurate) for points plus.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am returning to Pointsplus, because I still have all the materials, and it’s easy for me to follow right now. I wish I had saved my materials from prior programs, but I didn’t. Giving up the 200 zeroes is a fair exchange for a very easy program. I still have my zero fruits and veggies. That’s enough.

I believe we used 50 for Momentum and 40 (38 was more accurate) for points plus. Yeah that's what I thought too. 38 seems very low of an average for momentum.

I believe we used 50 for Momentum and 40 (38 was more accurate) for points plus. Yes. Just to clarify, Momentum was a POINTS plan. Giving plans different names every year while the points formulas stayed the same was very confusing (and still is). Will Freestyle still exist, or will it be myWW instead? All will be revealed (as they say).

I believe we used 50 for Momentum and 40 (38 was more accurate) for points plus. That is what I remember also. With a "fudge factor" if it was high in fat.
Same rule of thumb for PP, divide by 40 and add one for higher fat items. it worked just fine when you only had calories (like a restaurant menu.). It is also what finally made me quit meetings, when a leader told me this would absolutely not work despite the fact that I had used it successfully for several years.

Just to clarify, Momentum was a POINTS plan. That original points plan had a bunch of permutations. I did 1-2-3 Success. There were tweaks to cap the fiber (because of the "fiber abuse", tweaks to the floating points, tweaks to tweak the tweaks.).

Winning Ways is one I remember. “Back to… something” sounds familiar, too.
