Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Another marvelous fall day here in Wisconsin. High to be 70.
Robin, I can't even begin to describe the inside of my DB house. I can't be in there more than a few minutes. My sister and I can not believe that he was raised with the rest of us, with the way he has been living all these years. We all agree that the only thing to be done with that house is to tear it down. The big thing is, once he is having radiation and chemo, he won't be feeling the best, and once the snow starts, DH and I can not help him with his snow removal. So he will have to pay for it. His Navigator told my sister that they too think he should not be living alone in a house. I am calling places today to see if there are openings, and if so, can we take a tour Happy Yom Kippur!
Marsha, good luck this weekend! I would enjoy being alone there, walking all around, as long as it is not raining, but the weekend does not look good. Of course I can't say for the Madison area. Just as long as we don't have that snow that will be out by Pinky!!! You mention Uber....so you are not taking a vehicle down there? I am really surprised, with you living here so long, that you have never had booyah!!! It is so tasty, if made correctly, which most people in our area have a pretty good handle on. Since it is usually made in large batches, that is why you find it at churches and fund raisers.
Gareth, isn't this just the best weather? We are finally getting some payback for all that we have suffered thru this year! But of course we will be complaining this weekend. 43 here for the HIGH Saturday. Back to the Y for me, till then I will take my baby walks outside. Well I"ll be! I did not know phones and hearing aids had to be set up to be compatible! Amazing! So glad that your DH is up and running, so to speak. Yes, the washer and dryer is in a little closet off the kitchen, it is a stackable set and I hate the washer, as the way it is set up, 9 x's out of 10 I hit my head on the lid, reaching down in the washer to get clothes out.
Carol, you weather sounds gorgeous! My sister and her hubby are leaving this weekend to go back to Mc Allen. I hope the weather is nice down in that area for her. This will be her last time down there, as they are going to sell their mobile home. They will stay down there till May, then come back up here for good. Good to know about radiation. Congrats on the bone test!!!
Pinky, sorry about the weather you will be getting, but PLEASE don not send it here!!! I guess they are saying there is a chance of flurries on Sunday, but nothing that will stick. We still do not have our furnace on, and I hope it will stay that way.
We are going to cover our table and 2 chairs out on the deck today, so they are all set for the winter. Have to figure out where I will be putting the 2 mums plants. Last middle school football game this afternoon, that should be a fun time.
Have a nice day everyone.

Another nice, cool morning for my walk. Going to be another beautiful Fall day. Rain predicted tomorrow and then Friday it turns ugly with falling temps. I've started When Breath Becomes Air, a memoir about at the age of 36, on the verge of completing a decade's worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. I usually don't care much for memoirs but it sounded interesting. Sad though.
Karen, yes sounds like we'll be complaining this weekend about the weather. Shouldn't complain though. Just heard from a friend in Montana that after having 70Âş yesterday that 10" of snow is predicted for today.

Another beautiful day here, too. We are supposed to get rain on Friday. It is should be cooler, too. We have a couple of space heaters we can use if we get cold and of course, we have plenty of blankets. We won't leave the space heaters on when we go to bed.
Karen, what about the stuff in your brother's house? Can any of it be used or sold? It's going to be a big job. I hope you find a place for him.
I read When Breath Becomes Air. It is good, but as you said, sad. Have you read The Last Lecture? It is along the same lines.

It is the calm before the storm here. We have had several days in a row of beautiful weather although yesterday and today have been quite windy. As of now our area is forecasted for a bigger chance of rain and 1-2 inches of snow. To the north of us and the west is the bigger prediction of snow---they are saying 6-12 inches of snow---OMG I hope that stays away from us. We actually were able to harvest some soybeans yesterday and will be cutting some corn for cattle feed today. This is called earlage which means the head on the cutter gathers more of the ear of corn and cuts it up and it is packed into a long pile and then tarped, where as the silage we cut a week or so ago is the whole stem, leaves and ear is cut altogether and packed in the pile and tarped. Farmers are really moving yesterday and today to get some harvesting done. With the next few days forecast it could be awhile again before we can get in the field. Very scary this year crop wise. This wind we are having is not fun but it has done so much to dry the fields so that is the positive side of that.
Karen--I will try my hardest to keep that snow from finding you. Good luck with finding an apartment/assisted living for your DB. Hope it all works out that he is happy with it and makes life easier for you. I have not heard of the booyah before, do you share your recipe??
Gareth--I have heard of that book and it has been on my TBR list for ages. Let me know what you think.
I am still listening to One Step Too Far and enjoying it but it will go poof after tomorrow and don't think I will get it finished. I listen on my phone so do not like to turn off the wi-fi. I think it was available right away when I got it so will possibly be able to renew right away. I have too many books again all at one time as I came up for The Last Mrs, Parrish which I haven't started yet and also Queen Bee which I borrowed but have not even downloaded. I was surprised I came up so soon for Queen Bee. Actually now that I think of it I think I recommended Queen Bee so I may be one of the first to get it as I do not remember seeing it on my holds page or where in line I was. I have had that happen before when I have recommended that I get the book right away. I did see that I was #105 on Where The Crawdads Sing and now I am #94---won't be long know---LOL!!!
I will be grilling all the guys burgers for dinner today so they can grab it to go, along with some chips and I made brownies earlier this morning so that satisfy them for awhile. Have a great day all!!

Karen, your soup sounds delicious - like chicken noodle but different! lol. How does DB feel about a possible move? What does he say about the condition of his house? I hope you can find a nice place with reasonable rent.
Gareth, I’m sure that book is good, but I can’t read that type anymore. As meaningful as they are, I’m depressed when I’m done and that’s not why I read. In my old age, I just want to be entertained. Let us know what you think, though! I didn’t know that about hearing aids and cell phones either!
Pinky, whatever you do - don’t send that weather East! Our temps have been in the 60’s - some days sunnier than others but I don’t mind. Have you ever made sliders for lunch? Some people like them and they’re easy too.
Hi Marsha & Carol!
Robin, I remember you mentioned that you take fosamax - how long have you been taking it? I took it for maybe three years and then at one gyn appointment he just said to stop taking it. I think it only made a small improvement for me.
I need to stop at the library to pick up “A Well Behaved Woman-a novel of the Vanderbilts”. Has anyone read it?
Happy Yom Kippur!
