Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Raining here, still in the 60's, will drop this afternoon. Our beautiful, warm fall is over.
Pinky, oh boy, I feel so bad for all of the farmers/ranchers. What a hell of a year it has been, and it looks like it won't change anytime soon. Will you and your DH let the old house stand till spring? I sure wish we could easily post pics on here, it would be neat to see a few of the process of tearing it down. Hope your snow is done. Pinky, I feel the same as you, about the cats!!
Marsha, that is the difference between people who were raised in big cities, compared to being raised in small towns, such as GB. I would not dream of taking the bus to Madison. Of course I love driving, too. But you know, us here in GB are in love with our cars, and will take the car to the store, 3 blocks away! Wow, not being of your religion, I had never thought of what you can not eat, out in public!!! I am sure booyah is probably not kosher. DB does not need assisted living, he just wanted an apartment, but DS and I thought an independent living place would be best. I will looking into Courtyard, thank you.
Gareth, well I guess it could be worse for you and I, right? Supposed to be rainy and windy today, so not looking forward to going out into it. DH is still battling that stupid infection, his bladder treatment yesterday was postponed because of it. He is not feeling the best, poor guy. My knee is a whole different story, and will not bore anyone with it. Enjoy your day in!!
Carol, I don't know what made me think you did not have a furnace!! Yours sounds like the one we had at the old house. So old, but so reliable, had it serviced every fall, and sure enough, it worked like a top! There was 1 winter, where we had very bitter temps, that I was worried about it, but it kept heating. Isn't that horrible about the cats? I can not imagine it. I did not hear that about car keys!! I will remember that, if and when DH has to go into the hospital overnight. Thank you, about my brother. I was thinking all about it last night, and am still a little shocked how fast this all developed, going from us 3 siblings not knowing anything about our little brothers life, to me basically being his go to person. Just almost overwhelming.
Anngie, hope your weather stays for awhile. We still have not had to turn on the furnace. One of the pluses of living in a newly built upper. Even our vinyl floors are nice and warm. I know how they would feel right now, at the old house. I think you are right, about the waiting list. DB brother has his radiation treatments next week, but I will ask him if I can make an appointment for us to tour it. Thank you! Wow, that was so smart of your DS, to get the heck out of that house, for fresh air!
Robin, I am sure that eventually, especially if the chemo/radiation can not stop the spread of cancer, DB will need assisted living. But as of right now, he is able, physically and mentally to live on his own. And of course, being a typical man, at 62 years old, he does not think he needs help. So right now I am walking a fine line with him. Hope you got a good night's sleep last night, after all you put your body through! How was mah jongg?
As I said to Gareth, DH bladder treatment was postponed due to another infection. So another week will be tacked on to that.
Picking up DB at 9 to take him to the hospital for his port placement. I cringe when I think of having to take him home from it, and make sure he is comfortable....I don't know how I will react going into his house.
Is anyone on here on Social Security? I see, checking our checking account that there was a deposit into it overnight for a credit of $45.00, fro SS, which has never happened before, and I have not heard of such a thing happening. I did hear of the cost of living raise for next year, so it can't be that. Weird huh?
Time to get going. Have a nice day.

Good Mornng from the winter wonderland!!!Really not that bad here and although there is a little snow the grass is peaking out so not much for accumulation and the sidewalks and cement driveways in front of our garages and sheds is all clear. I suppose they have held the heat from those warm days earlier in the week and it just melts even though it is only 28 degrees. I understand the highways are a bit slick in spots. Now for our DD who lives 2 1/2 hours away this is the 2nd day with no school. Very nasty in their area and all of the schools in that area are closed as are many in western SD. It looks like we will miss the worst of it (Thank You God) but the worst for us will be later today and tomorrow morning they say.
Anngie---from yesterday you mentioned the stress on farmers and that is really big in the news here that farmers need to get help if they are feeling depressed. There was actually a suicide earlier this summer of a farmer several hours away from here that just couldn't take it and they were in an area where much flooding was going on. So sad and I think why would he leave his wife and young children to deal with this.
Robin---hope you won a mah jongg. Great that you have a new receptionist, it is always hard to train someone new isn't it? Hope she is a fast learner for your sack.
Karen---Well that just sucks that your DH has infection again---poor guy. You are a sweet sweet sister--hope his house isn't as bad as you imagine it to be for your sake. I cannot help with the SS question. It was our plan to knock the house down this fall, but with all of the rain it hasn't been able to be done. We waited for most of the summer to reroute our wi-fi cable which is under ground from the old house to our new house and then to our to shops which have offices in them. They were able to get that done during a dry spell as well as shut the water off in the old house. It all require digging and rerouting as everything leads to somewhere else on a farm and the wet ground just didn't allow for it. Of course I keep putting off bringing some stuff from the old house to the new house which has let me decide to take a lot of it to goodwill as I haven't missed it a bit. So I need to finish emptying it out and sorting through a few more things. So in answer to your question I don't know if it will still happen this fall or next spring--dependent on the weather mostly.
Started listening to Queen Bee--it hasn't grabbed me in yet but not that far into it so time will tell.

Laundry is done. Downstairs cleaned a little. Walk is done. Now a little me time until tackling something else. It was 38º when I got up with a windchill of 28º It's still only 39º at almost noon. DH came back in when he was leaving for work to tell me that there was frost on the driveway and the lawn. That and seeing how hard our flag was blowing was enough to convince me against walking outdoors. When I took a break for breakfast and came upstairs I saw everything was wet so it must’ve drizzled a little so I was really glad I decided to walk indoors. I finished When Breath Becomes Air and now I've started The Better Sister by Alafair Burke billed as a twisty tale of domestic noir. I love my twisty tales!
Karen, I haven't looked at my bank account lately but last I saw there were no additional deposits from SS so curious why you did get that. Sorry DH's treatment had to be postponed. Reading between the lines sounds like your new knee is still causing pain. It's ok to complain about it!
Pinky, glad to hear you didn't get the worst of that storm! I've been meaning to ask about your old house too so glad you said what's going on with it.
Time to get busy again...

It is 57 degrees and we had a little rain earlier. Tonight it will get down in the high 30s/low 40s, but should be in the 70s during the day. I think going to the Arboretum should be fine as long as it's not raining. We are looking forward to being with DGS and of course, his parents.
Marsha, I wanted to ask you about your pre-fast diet. It seems like every time I have a colonoscopy I get a headache afterwards. I think part of it because of not having caffeine the day of. I try to schedule them early in the morning so I don't have to go too long without the caffeine.
Here is a random question, do you still read newspapers and have one delivered to your house? As I have mentioned before, our county is small like only 100,000 people. There has always been a newspaper. It is small and was delivered 6 days a week. It wasn't delivered on Saturdays up to a couple of years ago where it came on Saturday but not on Monday. Now it is down to five days a week. No Sunday and Monday. The Saturday paper is a weekend edition combining Saturday and Sunday. And it is not delivered anymore. It is sent through the mail. Our mail doesn't come until about 2 p.m. One of my friends doesn't get her mail until almost 5 p.m. I know newspapers are having trouble staying in business because of the internet. I guess I'm just being old school-I want my paper in the morning so I can read it while drinking my first cup of coffee.
Karen, you are looking for an apartment for your DB? We have a couple of complexes here that are for older people.
I ran a couple of errands this morning and stopped at 2 estate sales. Both of the sales were small and I didn't buy anything.

Karen, so sorry for yet another postponement. I didn’t realize that Green Bay was considered a small town! I thought it was a good size city! It’s good that DB can still manage on his own as this will give you more time to plan. Do you think he might start going through things and throw stuff away? Or, wait for help - which will be you and DH?
Pinky, are you in the eastern part of SD and DD is in the western part of the state? So sad about the farmer you mentioned. I wonder if he was stressed because he couldn’t plant in time? Unfortunately, I think when a person resorts to suicide, they are no longer thinking of their family.
Carol, we still have a newspaper delivered six days a week (no Sunday paper). For years it was an afternoon paper, but it was changed back to a morning paper three years ago. I prefer morning also. This paper has had financial problems for a long time so who knows how long it will stay in operation. In fact, they have a larger area newspaper company do the actual printing for them. I think there will be a day when newspapers will be obsolete.
Gareth, I would have stayed inside too!
Robin, I hope she’s a fast learner too so you can concentrate on what you need to do. Did you have many applicants to choose from?
Marsha, are there kosher restaurants in your area? (not even sure if there is such a thing so I apologize if there isn’t).
