This thread is for anyone that has been away from healthy eating, had a gain and is recommitting. We accept all forms of healthy eating here, whatever that means to you. We touch base daily for accountability and to encourage one another. This is a judgment free zone.
We all struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. Sometimes this is a challenge, but we never give up and that is the key. Regardless of our situation or where we are in reaching our goal, we count on talking to each other every day and are blessed to have one another as friends.
Our motto is persistence, not perfection.

Good morning and welcome to the weekend.
Ugh, it's so early and I've been up for 3 hours already. Not sure what that's about. I might go ahead and start a pot of coffee. I mean, if I'm awake anyway, I might as well be sipping on some warm deliciousness, right? I think this morning calls for Aldi's Apple Crisp. I might add a little sprinkle of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice for some extra fall flavor.
Andi - thanks for the heads-up on the avocado. I really haven't been even looking recently, as I had such a bad run with them there for a while. Yes, we're finally seeing some cooler temps, mostly highs in the mid-80s this past week, but it looks like we're dropping into 70s for the upcoming week, with some night time lows into the 40s! I'm giddy!! Lol
I'm hoping to get results back soon on the blood work I had done Thursday. It's been about a year and a half since I've had a cholesterol work-up, and I'll be interested to see how things have changed with having followed keto long term. The last time it was done I was only about 6 month in, and people usually see a jump initially, and then see things normalize over the course of a year or so.
My thoughts are very much with Jana this week. I'm sending prayers and good thoughts that her and her family may find peace and comfort.
I hope everybody has a restful and restorative weekend. I'll check back as I can.

Hi Everyone, Today I have some errands as usual. I need to get to the library to work on my lesson plan as I have been working on completing the online assessments up until last night. Our parent teacher conferences are coming soon so I also need to start preparing them too. My new partner really hasnt helped much with the assessments but did assess the transitioning children so even that is some help than I had last year. Our child continues to be very challenging and now another child started acting up as a result. His grandmom is not standing for that behavior so that is good. The child is smart so mainly this is seeking attention.
I am going out for lunch today with my friends to a different Indian restaurant. Its not a buffet. I have been there before but not for quite some time. The first time was better than the second time. Since we are going at lunch I dont anticipate it being crowded like the second time we went. They seemed understaffed then and my food wasnt cooked enough but as we were in a rush to go someplace afterwards I didnt ask them to redo it.
It turns out that my nephew and his family will be in Scotland longer than I realized they would be. It will be two years not one. They are co-chaplains for different Jewish groups around Scotland to host them for meals and Jewish content. They have been in Glasgow and Edinburgh so far. I need to get over to the gym sometime this weekend as I have not been there since last week. I have off Monday so will plan to go in the morning and then food shopping. I am shopping for my friend too as I dont think I will be able to next weekend as I have a club event. Have a great day!

Good Morning - the children had a wonderful time at the birthday party, but I was very nervous when they picked up the bowling ball alone...especially after having a collectible stein mug fall from a shelf onto my foot yesterday - yeow! I had on tennis shoes but my second toe still bled a little and I have a bruise coming- it doesn't seem to be broken, but it is sore!
Nothing planned for today except take ODGD to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture for some extra credit. I have wanted to see this exhibition anyway - it is called DETERMINED and,in general, is about the Civil Rights movement which led to Brown v Board. I want DGD to understand that a school in VA was part of that SC case. It is so exciting to use my love of history to help my DGC whenever possible.
Lora - oh dear...and you had been sleeping so well lately (even sleeping in later that usual). I almost laughed out loud when you said you were "giddy" about the cooler temps - ha ha - glad you are getting a little relief. I actually turned the heat on this morning... now I am laughing. I am eager to hear your lab results also. I have decided to go ahead and get my lab work done this week (that I was supposed to have done by the end of August and I kept thinking that I would see if I could improve things by eating more healthfully like I did before). A friend convinced me that I should just have it done and take meds if that is what I need to do. The Dr said my cholesterol has been high (not exorbitantly but over 200) for years. I think the only reason I was not put on meds is because my HDL is so good and that would make my total higher...but these days (and I guess with my age) they want it really low...so we will see. If I am not going to really restrict my diet to keep it low, I had better do something.
Janet - sorry your new partner isn't much help. Enjoy the Indian restaurant - hope it is better than the last time. Is it good or bad that your nephew and his family will be in Scotland longer than you expected? Either way it seems like a long time to be away from "home."
Just like the rest of you, Jana is on my mind daily...

Andi - I got a few nice avocados for 78 cents each, so YAY!!
Susie - Mark had the heat on in the car this morning. He saw the internal medicine Dr. last week, and he adjusted his Synthroid, so that might impacted his body temp perception a bit. He actually had on a long sleeved button down under a long sleeved sweatshirt. I was just in a thin long sleeved t-shirt, with no sweater or jacket. The only part of me that was cold was my feet...but that's nothing new. After I posted this morning I checked again and my blood work results had been posted. I actually pay very little attention to Total Cholesterol, because when your HDL is good, it drives that Total number up, so that really makes no sense to use the Total number alone any type of gold standard. I use the TRI/HDL ratio as the "good number" that I shoot for. Triglycerides should be < 100 Mine is at 60
HDL cholesterol should be > 50 Mine is at 74 The Tri/HDL ratio is one of the best indicators of heart disease risk. They like it to be <2 Mine is 0.8!
Janet - I hope you're able to get all of your work accomplished at the library. Enjoy the Indian restaurant.
About 6 weeks ago I made a big pot of chili. I ended up freezing half of that batch. I've thawed it back out and that's going to be our "football food" for today.
Well, that's about it for now.

Had a nice lunch. Lunch time was less rushed and the chicken was well cooked. We sat and talked for a while without feeling we had to leave right after paying. Got my lesson plan finished as I adapted one that I wrote last year. I debated about going to a hayride tonight but standing for at almost 2 hours bothers my back and since I had lunch out I dont want to spend more money on the same weekend. I try to limit myself to one event per weekend. Picked up another book by the same author that I have been reading. ( Shelly Shepard Gray so if I dont fall asleep on it I will start reading it.

Lora - that is great....in March my HDL was 81 and I thought that was great, but my LDL was 133 and that is supposed to be less than 100 so my total was 228
Janet - enjoy the new book
I just got another migraine aura, so I will say good night to all
