Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cold here, temp is 34, one of our very high bridges is closed, due to frost on it. Two accidents on it earlier prompted the closure. High expected of 47, then of course rain overnight.
Robin, that game!!!! Did you stay for the whole thing? Wow, the ending!!! Congratulations! So happy for your team, they did what the Packers did the week before!!! So nice all the teams beating "America's Team"!!! It must have been very nice sitting there, with your warmer temps, except when the sun goes down. Nice that you could make a little money off the game, since those NFL games are such a rip off.
Pinky, I have been taking Prilosec for years, for my acid reflux. I have been drinking a bit more pure caffeine, instead of decaf or 50/50, and tomato based dishes, and then the red wine is such a bad combo for my reflux. So I know what I have to do, but it is just sad, since I have a half bottle of red wine uncorked, most likely I will have to dump it out. Nobody I knows drinks red wine. Lol, we had bacon and eggs for a late breakfast yesterday...it had been a while, so it tasted good. I love baking the bacon, it comes out so perfect. But if we went out for breakfast, I would have the hash browns, love them. How was the meatball dinner? What do they serve with that?
Gareth, I wonder if it is something with your device....that you keep loosing your posts, as you are writing them? Wow, you sure are hardy!! I wouldn't have walked in 37 degree temps. I heat up easily while walking, but yeah, like you said, your face gets cold, and it seems like the cold gets down into your neck, or anyplace where your coat is the least bit open. At least we have something to look forward to for this weekend, with the warmer temps!! That's right, I forgot you do not watch football (I think that is pretty smart, considering....) As you all know, I hate any kind of night games, be it football or baseball. So I won't be watching the game tonight, but I will go by DH to get updates. By the way, you sure do take great selfies, for FB! I can never get those right, so I don't do them. Lol, I remember you telling us about the pepper fiasco. Thank you for mentioning chili, I have everything to make it...maybe tomorrow.
Marsha, how bout them Badgers? Wow, what a game!!!! I hope you were able to watch some of it. I would have loved to have been at the game, but it looked like it started to rain...? I am a fair weather fan.
Hi to Carol and Anngie.
Seems like DH caught my cold, and has now given it back to me. I really need to shake it, since my DB does not want me around him, coughing. Tomorrow late afternoon starts his radiation.
Refocusing on my WW program. I am hearing rumors of some changes come the end of the year, which sounds about right, with WW. Time to redo everything, so they can rip everyone off.
Have a nice day everyone.

30Âș when I got up. Finally it's not windy but between it was still dark and frosty out I decided on walking indoors instead. Sun is out now but I couldn't wait. I wouldnât have time with having to go to work
I was shocked to hear that my cousin (actually my cousin's daughter) had a heart attack and died yesterday. She was a year or two older than DS. Saturday she'd had pictures on FB of being at the Iowa football game in Ia City and was having a good time. Hard to believe a day later she's gone. A friend called to tell us that their nephew's wife in her 40's had a heart attack and died. DH knows them. I don't. Someone else DH knows that was in his 40's died last week too. Things come in threes they say so I hope that's it now. Just so sad about all of them. Life is short. You just never know.
Karen, sad that you think any changes to WW is a ripoff. I'm so glad WW keeps making changes which I've always found to be for the better. I sure wouldn't want the program to have stayed the same as when I joined in '75.

Most of our snow has melted except for where the wind blew it into small drifts so glad of that. It was 27 degrees here this morning but it is a sunny blue ski with 48 degrees so I will take it as long as the sun is shining. And yes by the end of the week we have 60's forecasted and that is a good thing even though a small chance of rain on Saturday. Hopefully we can get a good start on harvest in a day or two after it dries some.
Karen--Yes I love to bake our bacon too. The meatball dinner was awesome---everything home made. The ladies all get together on Saturday and make the meatballs and then they serve baked potatoes, glazed carrots, cole slaw and dinner rolls with them. Of course there are many different flavors of pies to pick from for dessert. I had coconut cream and DH chose cherry with the latice top. So good!!! Hope you feel better for your and DB's sake.
Gareth---So sad about the unexpected deaths of these young people. My sympathy on your cousin's death. You are so right when you say you just never know. I know this isn't a good motto for WW's but I still say "Life is short, eat the cake!" I don't mean the whole cake but enjoy a few delicacies-- I just don't want to go through life not getting to enjoy some good food myself but I do respect those that do. They will probably live longer than me because of it but I need some of those goodies to fulfill my life. I do realize as well that these yummy's are able to be worked in the WW program so Life is Good right??

I had a really nice visit with dd. The âsorority parents weekendâ part of it was a bust but we really enjoyed just hanging out together. Friday I sat in her room and we chatted while she cleaned her room and we did laundry. We went to dinner then to a âsmoresâ thing for the sorority â it was in the outdoor part of a hotel restaurant and it was very cold. There were 3 sterno cans inside coffee cans for toasting marshmallows. I thought that was quite clever but they had put them all together on one table so there really wasnât room and it was too cold to stand out there no heat lamps so dd and I and her roommate/sorority sister and her parents went inside and sat down for 10 minutes then decided to leave. Saturday I headed to her apartment and we went to lunch then she went to the game. I watched the game from her apartment â we have Uverse so she put the ap on her tv and we set up our account. After the game we went to dinner and target. Sunday we were supposed to go to âbrunchâ for the sorority but dd got a text that said bagels and donuts and that didnât seem worth walking in the cold and I had already spent so much money on ubers and I didnât care if we went so we decided not to go. Turned out to be a good thing because at 9:30 when the event was supposed to start they said âbagels are on their wayâ. We were only going to stay an hour because I had a 2:00 bus and we wanted time to visit more so we made the right decision as the bagels didnât get there until almost 10:30. We went to lunch then I got the bus home. Bus ride was fine. I read a bit but mostly listened to the Mitch Rabb I had (finished it). The best was having dd say things like âwhen I woke up and saw your text âIâm on my wayâ it made me so happyâ and âyouâre my best friendâ.
Sorry no personals. Except Gareth so sorry about your cousin. What a terrible shock that must have been.

gareth, so sorry, there I go with my big mouth! Speaking before thinking....That comment was uncalled for, it is just how I feel sometimes when it seems WW changes things so soon after we have all gotten used to the previous program, but I should not have said that on here. Also, you have my condolences about your 2nd cousin. How sad and tragic, after having such a wonderful day on Saturday. Will you go to the funeral?

We ended up having a busy weekend. When we got up Saturday it was in the low 40s. We went to DD's and by the time we got to the Arboretum, it had warmed up considerably. We had a good time. There were pumpkins everywhere as well as many, many families. People were trying to take pics. We put DGS on a bench surrounded by pumpkins to take a picture, but he didn't want to sit still. That was fine. Almost 2 years old kids don't really want to pose for pictures. We got DGS out of his stroller some and let him run around. We went back to DD's house and DGS didn't want to take a nap. DH took him outside and they ran around in the back yard. It was so much fun. He has so much energy and he is starting to talk more and has changed every time we see him. Right now he is working on going up and down stairs like a big boy-walking instead of crawling on them. My heart is just so full when we are with him.
Robin, wow that is a lot of newspapers. I am the one who wants us to continue to get the paper. DH doesn't read it everyday. He gets Wall Street Journal at work. I think one of the reasons the newspaper made these changes was because they had trouble getting delivery people. For a while, we were getting it very late in the morning because people from the newspaper's office were having to deliver it. Of course, people around here are sad about the football game. At least the Cowboys made it a game. At first it looked like it was going to be a rout. I'm really not much of a fan. I will watch it if DH has it on.
After we got home from DDs, I made a couple of dishes for an after church potluck. I stayed up late, then had trouble going to sleep. We went to church and then the potluck. After we came home, I took a long nap and slept a little late this morning so I am feeling more rested.
Gareth, sorry about your cousin. An unexpected death is always a shock.
It does seem to me that WW changes a lot. Of course, I am glad it's not like it was in the 70s when I first went on it. There were so many things you couldn't have at all.
Marsha, sounds like you had a great weekend with your DD.
The mornings have been chilly, but it is warming up. I think tomorrow it should be in the 80s again with another cold front later in the week.

We did stay for the whole game, well not completely but after they didn't make the 2 point conversion we left, as did everyone else, so it was horrible getting out of the parking lot. I would have just been home reading, and DH wasn't complaining much for some reason about the driving. Our trip there was great. I picked up DS at the airport, his flight came in early but I told him to grab something to eat, then we stopped to pick up his friend who lives pretty close to the airport, then had no problem getting to the game. It was actually quite warm in the parking lot, my DS put on shorts. The game was at 4:25, so as the sun dropped behind the stadium, he started to get a bit chilly, but if he would have been in pants he would have been fine. DH just had a long sleeve t-shirt on, I had layers, so was warm at first, then ended up with a hoodie on as it got a little colder, but I don't think it was ever below 60 degrees. Our next game is a Monday night game, so we won't have the sun, but it is only supposed to be in the 60's, so not a big deal.
Karen, that's the problem with colds, my DH says that one good cold can last a family a life-time. I guess you each have to stay away from your DB while you have the cold.
Pinky, I think the stockpile of corn and soybeans has to do with China, they are not buying, or there were tariffs put on it by the person we don't want to discuss, but not good for those farmers. Interesting that the prices you get for beef are lower, because they are higher in the supermarkets. I like a Denver omelette also, or I think we also call it Western, and I have that sometimes when I am out for lunch, and then still have a light dinner.
Gareth, so sorry to hear about those deaths, we never expect that to happen to people who are so young. They don't expect there to be a problem either, so don't have things checked out sometimes.
Marsha, glad you enjoyed the weekend. Not only did you get to enjoy your DD, I will bet that when you are with your DH, you are concerned about what is going on with him. That's how I am anyway, I am thinking about whether my DH is enjoying himself, is tired, likes what he is eating, you name it. One day I realized that it was so great to be by myself where I only had to be concerned with myself.

We had a beautiful weekend - the temps were mid 60âs. And sunny!
Gareth, so sorry to read about your cousinâs daughter. The forties are so very young for this to be happening. Do you know if she had any heart issues? Not that makes much difference. Life IS short.
Marsha, how nice to have spent some quality time with DD. Thatâs hard to do sometimes (actually most of the time). And like Robin said about not worrying whether DH is enjoying himself or not.
Karen, have you or anyone here tried using Emergen-C to help keep colds at bay? Something Iâm thinking about trying this winter.
Robin, I agree 100% with all this time and energy spent on making sure our DHs are enjoying themselves or not! lol. And since my DH is a picky eater, Iâm always wondering where ever we go if heâll find something he likes. Well, Iâve gotten over that! If he doesnât eat, he doesnât eat! He can always make a PB&J sandwich when he gets home! ha
Pinky, I agree with you too! We should be able to treat ourselves on occasion without the diet police whispering in our ear!
Carol, what fun with your DGS! I miss mine terribly. We did FaceTime Sunday which is (almost) the next best thing.
This coming weekend is âthe weddingâ Iâve told you about. Thereâs a two night minimum to stay at the hotel so weâre leaving Friday and coming back Sunday. So....the uninvited are mad and hurt - and thatâs just the one couple. I think theyâre at a loss as to why they werenât invited. We did get someone else to watch the dog as we couldnât very well ask him to do it considering the situation. Iâm looking forward to the drive into Vermont as itâs a beautiful time of year there.

Marsha---aawwww what a sweet thing for your DD to say, sounds like you had a great weekend.
Robin---always so interesting to me how you have to plan ahead so far ahead to make your travel to an event work out and the parking. Again boils down to our areas being so different. And the anticipation of how long your trip home will be. The only thing that really changes with our timing here is if in the winter the roads are bad----the amount of traffic is just not a factor.
Carol--glad you had the fun day with your DGS and his mom and dad!!!
Anngie---Bummer on the couple being mad and hurt. I cannot imagine how they must feel. I know it will be in the back of your mind at the wedding that these 2 couples are not there but hope it is still a fun and enjoyable time for you----remember it's not your fault. The good thing about it is after this weekend you won't have to worry about it anymore, of course I guess it could put a strain on the friend relationship----just a bad deal!!!

Anngie, I didn't realize that it was a destination wedding. Is there any chance that the reason they weren't invited was because they didn't want them to feel that had to spend the money on the hotel? Hope you enjoy, should be a beautiful weekend to be in Vermont. Glad I am not the only one who thinks about what their DH is going to find to eat.
Pinky, the reason we go so early is because we tailgate. What happened is that the Jets used to play in Queens, where the Mets play, right across from where they play the US Open Tennis Tournament. When I was pregnant with my oldest they moved to a Sports Complex in New Jersey, which is where the NY Giants play also. So the NY Jets and the NY Giants play in New Jersey. The only true NY team is Buffalo! I know you sometimes travel pretty far to get places, it's just not in traffic.
