Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Going to be a windy day here, so the cooler temps will feel even cooler. High of around 50.
Robin, the NFL is just getting almost too hard to watch. I almost wish GB did not have a team in league, as it would be much easier to give up watching. My older brother quit watching them a few years ago, when all that stuff happened with the kneeling. Funny thing about that is, until he heads back to AZ, which will be in a week, he drives limo for the games, so he is there for all the home games. We are going out to eat with our DD2 and her DH tomorrow night, and I will not worry about what DH is going to order, or if it is good. I agree that when it is just the 2 of us, that is different, but he always has an opportunity while we are planning where to go, to speak up and give his opinion on where to go, so if he is unhappy with that choice in the long run, that is on him.
Pinky, I sure do not have your strength and endurance, for that is what you all have to have to be in the profession you and your DH are in. Our weather systems the last few years have been not the best, but this year! My goodness, I hope this goofy weather system moves away from this part of the country very soon. About that church fundraiser dinner, they must get enough free will donations to make it somewhat worthwhile. All those years we were running the Scrip table at our former church, that little way of raising money, along with others, such as their Fall Bazaar, and their Antique Car show and Auction were always run by the same people, and it was like pulling teeth to get volunteers to help. On a side note about our old church, I received a pm from one of the younger women congregation member wondering if we were still official members, as they need a lot of votes to get rid of the Pastor. I wish I could help them out, but we are no longer members. She said it is going to get messy, with that vote, and the council trying to make him leave. I can not imagine being a Pastor at a church and insisting on staying, after knowing how a lot of the congregation feels about me!
Carol, how was your dentist visit? Seems like every time I get a cleaning, one of my teeth end up hurting afterwards. Eventually it calms down. I am excited to find out that my Medicare Advantage plan includes dental coverage as of January. Glad to hear your warm weather is back, that spell of chillier weather was way too soon, for us too.
Marsha, at least with you being the one who is more touchy about eating out, you know where you can eat, so everyone is happy. Can you eat vegetarian pizza out? We are going to Rustique tomorrow evening, as we all love their pizza. If you can, you all should try it there, even tho it is a ride for you, with it being out in Suamico. I knew about the newer depot over on University, but I did not know it was for out of town buses too, just thought it was city buses, so that is nice.
Yesterday was a weird day, weather wise, as it would rain, then the sun came out, some what, so I took advantage of it, and got a mile walk in. Shortly after a thunder storm came thru. More rain, but when it was time to take DB to his first radiation treatment, it had stopped. By the time I was going home from that, sure enough, it started raining.
Today I want to get to the Y in the morning, then this afternoon DB has a follow up doctor appt for his brain surgery, then radiation, so it will be a busy afternoon.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen---I cannot imagine that pastor wanting to stay when so many are against him either. You would think he would just prefer to move on, but he must think it is in God's plan to stay. Or he his worried if he will be able to get a job elsewhere---- does he have a family to feed etc. Sad deal, hope it all works itself out. You do have a full day---take care!
My DF was not able to go last night with me to see Downton Abbey either because of issues with her mother so DH told me he would take me. I thought it was pretty sweet of him as that sort of movie is not his cup of tea but he was okay with it. Probably does not care if he see's it again but ok with the fact he spent 2 hours watching it. I really did enjoy it. I had never started watching the series so wasn't sure if we would get into it or not. The ad said the movie was for people who have loved watching the series or for those people who had not. I didn't know much about the series until it was well into the 2nd season and I wanted to watch from the beginning and then get into the weekly programming but I just never found the time to get it started so therefore did not ever get into it. I would still enjoy watching the seasons of it. I guess if life ever quiets down it is on my bucket list. Trying to remember if any of you were fans---I know we talked about it some on the old WW board.
Not sure what today holds for me. Plenty to do just not sure where I will start. I should see if I can get in to see the chiro today but not sure it is on my radar for the day and I will probably wait too long and they will be full. Have a great day ladies!

I watched about 2 hours of last night's debate and by then we had heard enough. Nothing new here.
Karen - I have heard rustique is very good but I haven't been. I do enjoy vegetarian pizza.
No plans tonight. I thought I'd make it until the weekend to grocery shop (since I missed my weekly run by being out of town) but I will run out of coffee creamer by tomorrow morning so I may stop for a few things on the way home tonight. Or maybe I'll drag dh out after work and we'll get our flu shots. That's probably a better idea.

Marsha, I couldn't even watch 2 hours, I don't even think I lasted an hour.
Karen, when it comes to pizza, my DH will order what he wants and doesn't complain. It is when I go out to get slices of pizza for the house, that I don't always pick what he wants, but I get plenty of different ones, that we keep in the freezer too. I know which ones are his favorites, and what he doesn't like at all, and I can always get a chicken roll for him.
Pinky, that was nice of your DH to go with you to Downton Abbey. I was not into the show, so no pressing need to see the movie, but I suppose if I ever had free time that wasn't reading time, and I didn't want to catch up on This is Us, I would watch it. I find that me and DH have a lot of different tastes in movies, but once in a while we will go to one that we both enjoy. I used to go with my DM to the movies, it used to be on a day like Christmas or New Year's Day, but the past few years before she died my sister and I would take her more often. Once in a while I will go with a friend. Right now there are 2 that I am going to watch out for on TV. I will pay for On Demand because I did not pay in the theaters. Maybe when DH is out of town next week for a few days.
Anngie, DH is going to a NYS Bar Conference in Saratoga. He booked too late to get the Gideon Putnam, but we know from past experience that is no great shakes as far as the room itself goes. He is staying somewhere else close by, but I know he is not thrilled with that idea either because he doesn't get to stop back in his room if he wants. They are giving them some kind of tour of the Saratoga Battlefield on Friday late afternoon.

Our weather changed (again). Last night we had a thunderstorm come through and it has cooled down. They were saying it was going to be hot all week, but today is only in the 60s. It is very nice out.
I used to watch Downton Abbey. I liked it, but I stopped watching after two characters died. I know the actors just wanted out and do other things, but it just ruined it for me.
Karen, it is hard when a church decides it's time for a minister to leave. Our church went through that several years ago. The man had been with us for years, but things happened and it was decided he should move on. They gave him plenty of notice and a good monetary package. It went really well. Just a few families left. The best thing the church did after he left was to hire an interim minister while we were looking for a new minister. It made the transition between ministers easier. Not too long after the old minister left he was diagnosed with Parkinsons so he would not have been able to continue much longer anyway. He died about a month ago and the funeral was held in our church.
I know what you mean about how hard it is to get people to volunteer. Sometimes a sign-up is put out for people to decide how they want to help. One woman told me when she was in charge of an event and few people signed up, but when she called them they were happy to help. I really don't know if people just don't read or hear the announcement about an event coming up.
Robin and Marsha, you did better than me about the debates. I watched NCIS.
Marsha, I know keeping kosher means there are things you can't eat. I assume there is more it than that?
I had to go to Target. It was recently remodeled so it took me longer to find things.
We used to eat pizza a lot until we did WW, then we really cut back on it. It was hard to do because we both really loved it. DD and DSIL have a favorite local place so since DGS arrived, we have eaten more than we had for years.

Carol - kosher prohibits pork products and shellfish. Also it is not permissible to mix milk and meat products. There are other rules but that's the big pictures. So for me I don't eat meat out of the house because it is not kosher meat. When I eat out I stick with fish or pasta or vegetarian options. It's easier now than it was because eating vegetarian has become more popular, but I always check the menu before going out just to be sure. When dd and I were looking for a place to grab a quick lunch before she went to the football game on Saturday we went into a little bar a few doors from her apartment building. Typical bar fare but they offered grilled cheese and also a vegan hot dog.

We’re about to get that bad weather from the west! We could get 3”+ of rain by tomorrow night.
Karen, how did DB make out with his first treatment? Yes, the colors are still nice - only for a short while longer though. We won’t be in northern VT - more SW so it should still be beautiful just as it is here right now. Over the years I’ve been on two particular church committees - and guess what! Both times it dealt with removing the minister. The first time was 20-25 years ago and the other was three years ago. It’s very, very difficult to do this, too. I’ll serve on other committees but never again on this one.
Robin, no, the uninvited can well afford a weekend away. The bride feels she doesn’t know them (and the other couple) well enough. She just wanted those invited that she knew growing up. I understand this but it does put her parents in a difficult situation. How nice that DH can tour a little bit. There is so much history in Saratoga. You are right, there are other places to stay - just depends on how much you want to spend!
Pinky, I went to see Downton Abbey also and really enjoyed it. A friend told me about the series about the second or third season so I borrowed the DVDs to catch up. I found it so interesting how people lived in those days. I do think that the way the movie ended there will be another in a couple of years!
Carol, I’m about ready to cancel my dental insurance until Medicare starts. We pay in quarterly but it seems they cover very little. Especially if the dentist is “out of network”.
Marsha, thanks for the info!
Yesterday I had my annual gyn appointment. On the drive home I started wondering if I should even continue doing this. Do all of you still see your ob/gyn?

Anngie, I am thinking he is staying in something like a Hampton Inn nearby, nowhere fancy. He definitely would have stayed at the Gideon Putnam if there was room. I do know how your neighbors feel, because a similar thing happened to us that we recently found out about. They did have a small wedding, but some of us found out that 2 couples from our group were invited for exactly that reason, the son only wanted the ones he knows. The fact that our friend refers business to my DH didn't make a difference. We thought no one went, or from what he said I thought 1 couple, but then found out another couple went as well.
It is pouring rain here. Luckily it did not hold up DS & DDIL's flight, they landed a few minutes ago. Our trees here have just barely started to change, but I think this rain could make a lot of leaves fall.
Carol, not sure where our rain comes from, but sometimes it does come up from Texas with the gulf stream.
We had our office lunch today instead of yesterday, and I am still full! If DH is hungry, I have some burgers in the freezer.
