Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning.
Pinky, I agree, about the Pastor wanting to stay, I sure wouldn't want to. But yes, he has 3 daughters, 2 of which are in the local high/middle school. When I was still working at the grocery store, I had heard he wanted to stay at that church till all the girls were thru school. So I think that church has their hands full with this fight. Can you imagine going to church service? Nope, no way! How sweet that your DH went with you to the movie!! I have not seen the TV series (was always going to start watching, then it was gone.) nor the movie. A small store here that is all about kitchen gadgets and such, has cooking demos a lot, is going to do an upstairs/downstairs cooking thing about Downton Abbey, Nov 7th, and DD2 wants to go with me, up in the air right now, to see if I can fit it in with DH treatment, if I can I think it will be fun.
Marsha, DH usually watches the Debates, but with it being on Tuesday night, with the TV shows being new, he did not. Did you DVR NCIS? I think there are too many people in the debate to be effective. I enjoy veggie pizza's, but those are not the same as vegetarian. I am hoping they have a chicken alfredo pizza, that is my true favorite. I can not drink coffee without my creamer....did you stop and get yours? I have to get my flu shot, DH can not get his till his treatment's are over, I hate to wait till then.
Robin, when you get slices of pizza to take home, are they baked and hot? I don't think people do that around here....I could be wrong. We do have places like Papa Murphy's, where you buy take and bake pizza's, but not sure about where I can get slices. Then to freeze them, what a great idea! I take it that the hotel(?) your DH could not get into is a very nice one? Never heard of that hotel, is it a chain? I saw on the national news last night that your area is expecting a bomb storm or something like that...with very high winds, today. Be careful!!
Carol, that was really sweet that the funeral of that Pastor was at your church. It sounds like the parting of the ways was a good one. This one will not be, if it happens. I could not imagine coming into that church, as a new member. Now that you mention it, the last time I was in Target, things were pretty much a mess. The guy who was my boss at the store, who was the produce manager left the grocery store for a manager job at Target, and he posted on FB a few weeks ago that they were adding to their grocery area. Did you see anything like that at your Target? I will have to get over there and see. I too had dropped pizza from my WW menu when I was really loosing the weight. Eventually I started back with it, but just as a treat, and not as much as I used to eat. It seemed to work out ok, scale wise. That 2 ingredient pizza dough is the best, and low in points. I just don't care for all the hands on time it requires to make it the whole pizza.
Anngie, I heard about your bad weather on the news, good luck, it sounded really bad! DB seemed to do ok, with the radiation, took him yesterday for his second one. DH came with me, and between the both of us, we can see changes in DB. His mind is not so sharp. I need to step up the effort of finding somewhere for him to move to. He really does need independent living, which progresses to assisted living, but he does not want to spend that much, monthly. I called one of the more upscale places yesterday, their 1 bedroom apartment goes for $3,600 a month! That of course is totally out of the question for him. I can't imagine being on those committees! So much stress on you committee members! I am tempted to rejoin the church, just so I can vote. I do not go to a ob/gyn, have not in years. Once I had my uterus taken out, I felt a family doctor was just as qualified to take care of me as a specialist.
As I mentioned, DB seems to be wearing down. I do not look forward to his next chemo treatment, next week. Last night I spent it looking for apartments, like he wants, and in the price range he wants, and there is just nothing decent out there. Like I said, the best case scenario is independent living, with assisted living there if needed. When DH brother passed 3 years ago, he lived alone in an apartment, and DB other brother from a small town further south in Wi, came and stayed with him. There is nobody in the family that can do that for my brother. My sister called a place here in town that specializes in elderly issues, and is expecting a call back today, hopefully they will have some answers.
Today is DH treatment, then was supposed to be a day off from any running with DB, but his brain surgery follow up got pushed to this afternoon, so we will run him over there. Then dinner out with DD2 and her DH.
Not reading anything right now, as in the evening I am searching for apartments and living areas. I noticed on Overdrive I have a bunch of books on hold. Wish one would come up, I do need a distraction.
Have a nice day.

I was a Downton Abbey fan. I caught up after a few seasons. I think it might have been On Demand. DH would not even stay in the room if it was on so I know he won't go to the movie with me.
Karen - we always record NCIS and a number of other shows. DH does not like to watch anything "live" as he likes to skip through commercials. We went for our flu shots last night to Target. There was a bit of a wait - they said 4pm-7pm is the worst and that's when we were there. Of course it also involved a little Target shopping (including half and half for my coffee) then a stop at Costco. I think there are a few places you can get pizza by the slice- one in De Pere. And of course Costco. Target has been remodeling. The West Side store was first. I didn't notice a whole lot new but things are moved around. There should be a social worker at the oncologist who can help you. Otherwise call the Aging Resource Center.
I can't remember if I told you guys I heard from my old walking buddy - she decided not to sell her house. So we walked Tuesday morning and this morning. Since we are now walking in the dark we want to to stay on sidewalks on more heavily traveled roads for safety. We found a route this morning that takes 30 minutes so I think we'll stick with that for a little while until it gets too cold and/or starts to snow. Neither of us want to walk if there may be ice on the sidewalks.
No plans for tonight. I'm not sure if there is a class for Mitzi - I only made it to one class this past session and I don't know if tonight is between sessions or what.

We have a beautiful sunny day here today and should get in the 60's so we are loving it. Hopefully will dry some in the fields as we really need to get to harvesting as rain is in the forecast for us from Sunday-Wed.-----Not a good thing!!! Loving the weather today however!
Karen--that would be a lot of fun to go to at the kitchen store. Hope it works out for you. Are there apartments there that are for low income people---I know where you could graduate to assisted living might be the better option but if the low income would work for now it is a start. If you are already seeing DB decline I hope something works out quickly for you. Hope all goes well for your DH today and his infection is cleared up.
Marsha--Yes that is how DH would be if I was watching Downton Abbey, I am 99.9% sure he would not watch with me and find a different TV to watch so he really surprised me with offering to go with. I know he didn't care for the movie but he was still a good sport about it. Guessing the wet weather and mud is just having that affect on him that he might as well find something to do. Our Target that we shop at in Watertown went through a remodel about a year ago and I really like it. It seems a little more upscale in the clothing department in looks but not really more expensive. And yes they have added a much larger grocery area. I really like it and I think it was a good move for them---I hope so anyway as in our area we cannot afford to loose any more stores. I just do not want to do all of my shopping at Wal-Mart. Glad your walking buddy is back with you.
Gareth--I hope all is okay as we haven't heard from you in a couple of days.
Robin---I have never thought of freezing pieces of pizza either so would like to hear more about that.
Anngie and Carol---Hi
Yesterday mid-afternoon I ended up going to our county seat about 15 miles away to pay our land taxes and get a truck licensed. I planned it so I could stop in and watch DGD's at gymnastics and then picked up a few groceries. Today I am cleaning and preparing for DD's family as they are coming this weekend. So looking forward to it as they have not been here much since the baby came. Between him and DSIL coaching football and DGS#1 starting to play football they have not had much spare time so we have gone that way a few times to see them. The good thing about not being able to harvest I guess. I am afraid when they are here we may finally get to the field so not sure the visit will be all of us together much but 10 and 7 year old DGS's will love getting to be in the combine and tractors.
I am still listening to Queen Bee and can't say I love it but don't hate it either. About 1/3 of the way through and at this point I give it a 3 to 3.5 rating.

Pinky, all is ok here. Just haven't taken the time to post. Enjoy your nice day! It was predicted to be nice here today. It's sunny but it was still cold coming home from work. Just checked and now the temp is 51º so it's warming up.
Marsha, smart not walking if there's any ice. I used to but don't like walking anymore when it's dark either. Just not fun anymore either when it's cold and especially if it's windy too. I'm glad I can walk downstairs. Not as fun as outdoors but at least I have my audio books to keep me company. Right now I'm listening to Stillhouse Lake. It's just ok. Enough to keep me interested to see how it'll end which I'll be glad when it does. Should finish it tomorrow for sure.
There's places here to get pizza by the slice like Little Caesers, grocery and convenience stores. Speaking of pizza too I've never eliminated it from my diet. I love it too much so I've always worked it in. Friday night is our pizza night.
Anngie, I haven't went to an ob/gyn in many years. I haven't had a yearly exam or mammogram in years either. At my age from what I've read it's not necessary though my family Dr doesn't agree.
Hi to everyone. Gotta get going. I want to go to Kohl's. I have a return plus something to pick up. I also have $25 in rewards so I'll look around a little too. Back to work then later.

Gareth - I am expecting an amazon package today that dd ordered with the wrong address. I need to return it at Kohl's and ds told me that when you do amazon returns there they give you a 25% coupon so I may look around a bit. That is Saturday's plan. Sunday I will go to JoAnn's and return fleece that I ordered for dd that she didn't need.

Wow, $3600 for a one bedroom! Is that just for the apartment or does it include some amenities, too?
We usually get our flu shots at Walgreens. We found that Saturday afternoon is a good time to go. I don't know why because I thought they would be busy on the weekend. Since I'm retired now I go during the week.
I was in a hurry when I was at Target, but I think they did enlarge the grocery part. I noticed the pet food and paper goods were in a different location. I think maybe they had put the maternity clothes right next to the baby things. The make up section was different, too, but I didn't go in that section so I don't know exactly how it changed.
Gareth, my ob/gyn told me that now pap smears are not necessary for women over 65. I want to encourage you to get mammograms. They can save your life. My mom got her first one when she was 68 and cancer was found. It was in the early stages so she had the breast removed with no other treatment necessary. Since my ob/gyn is retiring, I'm going to use my family doctor.
Another beautiful day here. A little chilly this morning, but now in the 70s.

It’s been pouring since last night. Thankfully, I checked the weather in VT and Saturday looks nice and sunny.
Karen, here in this county we have an Office for the Aging to help with issues that DB has. And the social worker at the cancer center may help too. There are various agencies out there, but who are they and where when you need them, right?!
Marsha, I’m glad you have your walking buddy back! Did she ever say why she decided not to sell - you mentioned a security system she’s putting in. Hopefully that will be all she needs.
Pinky, we have a fairly new Target so no remodeling needed yet. The annoying part is they always have unopened boxes just sitting around. I always see plenty of salespeople but stocking shelves doesn’t seem to be a priority.
Gareth, whatever you do, don’t lose the $25 in rewards! Hopefully you can find an item or two and use it!
Carol, thanks for the feedback. I’m just thinking about how to eliminate a doctors visit. I really like my GP but I don’t think I would use him in place of an ob/gyn. That’s just me!
Hi Robin!

I am exhausted today, busy day at work, but I actually got 3 government workers on the phone to straighten out things for clients! Usually the DSS workers don't answer the phone, and I was having a terrible problem getting through to Social Security. We do Medicaid planning and help people get on Disability, so needed to reach both of those. I had networking in the morning, plus various other things I needed to do at work. I have book club tonight.
We have pizza parlor/Italian restaurants here every few blocks. Years ago already they started to all make different kind of specialty pizzas with different types of toppings, not just the ordinary. Thinks like chicken marsala, buffalo chicken, eggplant parmigiana, marinated eggplant, spinach broccoli, just to name a few. The pizzas are baked, but slices are cold when I take them home. You can go in and buy them and have them heat them up, but I usually get 8 slices when I go in, and don't know what DH will want to have, so bring them home cold. Our toaster oven has a pizza setting, so we heat them up with that. Karen, I think veggie pizza is vegetarian, unless for some reason it has meat in it too, but I don't think they usually do.
Carol, $3600 is rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in Manhattan, actually about the bottom price, if it is a doorman elevator building. With Independent living, I believe it includes most meals, or 2 meals a day anyway. Around here without extra care independent living is usually more like $6000 a month.
Karen, figure how much it would cost for DB to rent an apartment, pay for food, and have someone to help him with cleaning and meals. I think they do cleaning in assisted living too. I think maybe DH and I should move to Greenbay. We could actually probably live on our social security there.
Marsha, glad your friend decided to become your walking buddy again. DH once did an Amazon return at Kohls. We have a UPS Store here, and they take them without even having to box them up, so that's what I do.
Pinky, that's how I felt about Queen Bee, it was OK for me. Sorry about that rain! Nice to have so much going on with the kids and grands.
And now for my latest news, talking about grands, my DDIL is pregnant! They find out so early these days, so it has been killing me to keep this secret. She is having a girl. She's not due until April, so still a long way to go.
I have book club tonight, so still not done for the day. I also want to talk to DS about how their trip to Paris was. And, if I can get in some reading time, that will be great. I am reading The One Man, and started to really enjoy it. I am almost 2/3rd of the way through. It's another WWII though, for anyone who is tired of WWII.

Carol---Hi Anngie---our Target is always very neat and tidy. Suppose they are all different just like everywhere else. Robin---Congratulations---that is so exciting and especially a girl when you have had 2 boys. That is just too dang sweet!!! I assume this is DS#1 who has just been in Paris? You will be a wonderful Grandma!!
