Good afternoon chicks and thanks for the start Chele.
Chele - I'm sure Iggy enjoyed the spaghetti dinner you made him. We are chilly and windy today so I had a long sleeve top and fleece on to do my laps. There's bright sunshine which helped to make the time outside nicer. Felt tired and sluggish this morning and not really sure why. Gary stayed home today so he waled the pups around 7:am and I got their food ready. When they were done the pups went to lay down with Gary and I went and read in bed for a bit. Did you plan anything other than the pizza place for Iggy this weekend?
Linda - very happy to hear that the sinus issues subsided and your appetite returned. There is so much truth from your experience of winter in upstate NY that I found myself nodding. We've had some tough winters in the Hudson Valley but we've also been fortunate to have some fairly mild ones as well. Snow falls beyond a couple inches and the city and boroughs go into panic mode.
Becky - I'm sure having KK on the armrest is much better than having her need your tummy. Ralphie used to lay across me like he was a scarf when he was alive. Zoe would sit between my legs on the old recliner and now she mostly stays laying at my feet. Hope that Garmin and the app start behaving for you!
Kathy - you're right that even a week of vacation in MI is not the same as living and commuting through a real winter. Whatever works for DN, I wil be haapy for him. DMs BD will be a pretty big project which I am sure will keep you busy. SM's BD is the end of the month so we will go down, see her new apartment, take her to dinner and come home. I still have to figure out what we will do with the pups.
Karen - congrats on the success at Osteo despite feeling tired. Good that the rice krispy knees didn't hurt too badly. Hope you have a great tail hike today! The surgeon sent a terrific letter supporting me working from home and mentioning the safety of doing so rather than risking a fall due=ring commuting. I submitted that and my telecommuting letter to my boss and we'll see what happens. I agreed to a conference call this afternoon regarding the meeting in very early Nov. for the new women's center in the new building. The soup came out very good. I enjoyed making in the IP so I didn't end up with a ridiculous amount of leftovers. I was invited to a ladies lunch tomorrow with a few of my neighbors at one of their homes. I bought some adorable Halloween cookies and a White pumpkin candle to bring.
Time to take the ice packs off. Wishing you all a safe and nice remainder of the day. Ciao for now~

Liz, great news on the recommendation from the surgeon. You need to heal a d build up the supporting muscles before the commuting commences. I am glad the IP worked out for the soup. I just froze heaps of leftover cabbage soup. The ladies’ luncheon sounds nice. Have fun. It is a cool windy day here, too, but we should hit 70° Sat and Sun. We only have the pizza place planned. I am going to let Iggy decide what he wants to do other than that.
Kathy, nice on the prescription remaining the same and no age related issues. The party planning seems to be going well. Everyone should experience real vs vacation winter at least once. Then they can decide if hellacious heat is better than frigid cold, ice and shoveling snow.
Linda, your description of winter almost makes me want to move further south. I am glad you felt better last night. How is today going?
Becky, I miss Teddy so much because he loved to cuddle and he let me kiss the top of his head, too. My female kitty liked to knead us, but we trained her to use a blanket. She was the grumpy one like your KK. She used to ambush Leo and box his ears. I hope the Garmin app is behaving today.
Karen, sorry you missed out on the apple cider donuts. I like going to TJs and usually pick up a few things when I get my haircut, because it is close. Did your heat come on last night? It was 37° this morning. You had a good session at Osteo. I’m glad the knees behaved. Congrats on the Astros win. 😝 The pizza place is true New York pizza. We have been going there since the late 70s. He gets the Neapolitan with sliced meatballs. I will get a slice or two of plain cheese. I took a good look at the first doggie on the Bassett commercial and, by jove, you have a good eye. The ears are significantly shorter than the other doggies. How was the hike and the presentation on lichens?
I am having a lazy day today. I did my workout and cleaned out the fridge and that’s about it. Iggy is bringing home Thai fir dinner, so no cooking. Yay!

Linda, one of my aunts raised her family in upstate NY and I used to hear about the winters there. They retired to New Smyrna Beach, but several of my cousins still live up there. I complain about the heat here, but I wouldn't want to go through that every year.
Karen, how was the hike? I hadn't even thought about DN's car, but it's a little Ford Escort and wouldn't be good at all in snow. I guess he'll have to figure that out if he winds up in VA. He would be on the coast, so it probably wouldn't be as bad as inland. I've noticed lots of new places springing up in Gatlinburg and I hate to hear that about drunks from the liquor/moonshine tasting places. We like the Smoky Mountain Brewery there, but it's a restaurant with their own brews. We've usually stayed close to the park entrance where you're taking your hike so we don't have to drive through much traffic to get into the park. There are lots of places to eat within walking distance and it's nice to walk along the Riverwalk in Gatlinburg. It's just one road over from the main strip. I've been watching too much of the news shows too and it is enough to keep you up at night. The crazy stuff just seems to keep coming and it's only going to get worse with the election and impeachment looming. Congrats on the Osteo numbers!
Liz, the letter from the surgeon makes so much sense about the risk from falls. You definitely need to recover more before taking on that commute. I think DN will be very happy with any of the jobs. There are lots of companies around here too if he doesn't get one of the internships. Hope you enjoy your visit with your SM. How is she liking the new apartment?
Chele, I have lots of issues with my eyes, but was happy to get out of there with no new issues. For a while, it seemed like every time I went, something new got added to the list to worry about. The closest I've come to real winter was in Tallahassee when we had some snow. No shoveling required though. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like having to deal with your kind of winter, but I wouldn't mind living a bit further north where there are some seasons and less hurricane risk. It probably won't happen, but I can dream! Sounds like winter is already there if you're at 37. We have a tropical blob heading our way, so no change in seasons yet. The track is north of us, but it looks like we will get some wind and rain. I'm having a bit of a lazy day too. Yay for no cooking! Enjoy the Thai food.
Becky, I'm glad KK has moved from your stomach to the arm rest. Sounds much more comfortable for you!

Thanks for the start Chele.
Liz I'm glad Gary stayed home today. One time I had to go to my NP after we got KK for a different reason. She told me I had a rash on my stomach.I said no just my cat.Marcie will lay across me and she doesn't hurt me and just for a trial I thought I would try to hug her and she liked it.Scooter sleeps with me some nights on my recliner and although she would rather sleep across my legs I place her on my side. That way she gets her tummy rubbed until I fall asleep.I guess I sleep hard because I never know when she jumps off my chair. The Garmin is working but the app sometimes doesn't sync or it unpairs my Garmin.I have it synced to Apple Health app also so it will give me burned calories and activity points. Will you just get to telecommute during your recovery or will it be an ongoing thing?
Kathy I know you have a Versa.Do you still like it and is it very easy to use?How long does it stay charged?I don't want to get the Versa 2 because you have to get pro with the Fitbit app.
Chele I wish you could share your 70's with us for the weekend. We will be back in the 90's before a cool front on Monday morning.I know you must miss Teddy terribly.I sometimes wish Scooter was much smaller so she wouldn't be so hot up here with me but she does let me cuddle and kiss her on the head too and she loves to kiss me.I would love to have a TJ's close.I heard the Astro's won.Go "Stros."I hope you and Iggy enjoy your pizza.I don't remember the last time I had any.
Kathy It is more comfortable and she will stay there until I get up from my chair and then go eat or go to the litter box.

Linda, I know, the Panhandle sure doesn't need another storm. It's a strange one since it's showing most of the rain way to the east of the center. I'm wondering if they're underestimating how much we'll get here since we're on the eastern side of it.
Becky, I like the Versa. I usually have to charge it about 2x/week. I find it fairly easy to use, but I don't use all of the features. I don't have it integrated with my phone since I have a Windows phone, but I think you can receive texts on it. I pretty much use it for the tracking and as a watch. I like the Exercise app for the extra stats when you do a workout. You might be able to get a good deal on it now and there is also a Versa Lite. I don't think you have to get the Premium Fitbit app with the Versa 2, but it does come with a 3 month trial for it.

Thanks for the start, Chele. I hope you have enjoyed your lazy day. Great for no cooking and for Thai! What did you have? When are you going for pizza? Did Iggy used to live in NY too, or did you meet in Dayton? Hope he enjoys his birthday weekend. Do you see yourself moving south some day? Basset rescue has made me a good identifier of breed traits. Another giveaway is long legs and narrow paws. Can't see either on the first dog in the commercial. The hike was good. Trail was a bit crowded but I can now say I have hiked the entire Gatlinburg Trail. Only about 120 ft elevation change, so nothing even close to what I do close to the house. I hit some sub-16 minute segments so I was getting my cardio. I did have to stop once to adjust one of my knee braces and started having a little back pain on the way in from the hydration backpack I was breaking in, but that will subside as I use it more. The lecture was excellent. The presenter is a lichenologist (never heard of that) from CUNY who comes to the Smokies about once a year to do research and has done so since he was in HS. I found an apple cider donuts recipe that is baked, so it may be a good thing I couldn't get the TJ's ones. I will wait until Dale goes to the orchard on Sunday so I'll have some real apple cider to use. Surprisingly, the heat didn't kick on last night, even though we were in the low 40s. Our house is very well insulated. It was still 69 when we got up and I think I have it set to kick on at 66. Did you see the all-female space walk today?
Liz, did the surgeon add something in the letter about when you would be released to make the commute? Are you still feeling the effects of the bomb cyclone? I know you didn't miss commuting in that mess. No rice krispy knees on the trail today, but the top of the feet started to hurt. Dale thinks it's the new trail socks I was wearing. Knees are kinda stiff and sore right now, however. Glad you enjoyed your soup. Good that you didn't end up with a bunch of leftovers. I can't say the same for my soup. I had an 8 cup container in the fridge and put 4 jars of it in the big freezer. Enjoy your ladies lunch. that should be fun. I know they will enjoy the cookies and the hostess will like the candle.
If DN drives an Escort, Kathy, I'm pretty sure it has rear wheel drive, which will not be good in snow. I learned that the hard way my first winter in Morgantown, WV, with a Camaro. I hope he has better luck than I did if he ends up there and has snow. Gatlinburg traffic was absolutely horrible today. In fact, I can usually get to the park via The Glades in about an hour. Today it was an hour and a half and that extra half hour was spent sitting in traffic in Gatlinburg. There weren't as many people on the streets as there were 4 weeks ago, but the number of vehicles increased expoentially. Staying close to the park entrance is a very good plan. I came home via Pigeon Forge because I knew the traffic would be even worse in G'burg . How much rain are you expecting from Nestor? I thought it was going to drift a little further west and affect DB/DSIL, but it doesn't appear that it will now. What's on your football schedule for the weekend?
Linda, I'm happy to hear that the cinnamon buns were therapeutic. Mowing over the leaves is good for the soil, so I'm glad they didn't blow all of them. You have such a diverse selection of trees. I know about low cars, having had a Camaro. But my late brother had a Corvette at one point and I always said I had to step down to get into it because it was so low to the ground. Congrats on making it to the bakery and the butcher. How did you feel when your driver said it was going to take time to get used to the new depth perception? That would at least put a lump in my throat. Good to get the HVAC system checked ahead of the curve.
Odd about your Garmin app being so sporadic, Becky. Have you gone to the Garmin community to see if others are having the same issue? I learn a lot there. Too bad Texas seems to be totally out of the path of Nestor. I know you could use the rain. Did you ever go to Sun Harvest before somebody bought the chain? That's what TJ's reminded me of. I used to shop there a lot when we lived in Austin. Go 'Stros, indeed! One win away, so tonight could do it. Fingers crossed....
There is a huge yard sale tomorrow that goes from Alabama, through Georgia, and into Tennessee on U.S. 411. Dale is going to do some of the local sections and I'm going to stay home and rest my knees and keep a puppy company since I have been gone a lot this week. Saturday is gardening show day anyway. I do have to cook beef for Arya, and should change the sheets, but not much else on the agenda. Oh, except football of course.
