Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. After a perfect fall weekend, today is going to be rainy and windy. Fun should start around mid morning. Cooler temps too.
Gareth, are you also, getting the rain? We love seeing all the deer around here, although on the other side of town the deer destroy gardens and flower beds, so the city has a controlled hunt over there. The season is starting now, where the deer are moving more, so we see them more. When we were up in Minocqua, there were so many deer grazing, so close to the roads, I really believe the people who own those properties are feeding them. The deer did not seemed scared of all the traffic, so you know they were used to the cars. Thanks for the info on the book.
Robin, I have never heard of that tradition. That was one of the fun things I did when my DD's were pregnant, if I was going thru a store, I would go in the baby dept, and buy something. Even if it was infant diapers, which of course they can always use. I am going to take your optimism and run with it! I am going to start looking at this as just a way to get to know my brother more than any of us did, and expect a good outcome. Good luck to your Jets tonight! You never know, the Pats can have an off night! Look at it this way, both Green Bay and the Jets just came off beating Dallas, lol, the Eagles couldn't do it yesterday! We used to go to the games (DH does still go sometimes), I feel happy to just stay home, and what with your DS and DDIL now starting their family, next year might be very different for your football tailgating.
Hello to Pinky, Marsha, Anngie and Carol. Hope your weekends were relaxing.
Running back to Kohl's this morning, as Saturday we bought the wrong Ninja, so returning that. Then later it is DB radiation. He is doing really good, with being back on steriods.
DH is having an issue with more spots popping up on his scalp. He said his scalp hurts quite a bit. When he went to the Derm doctor a week or so ago, the nurse froze one of them off, but did not seem concerned that DH is in pain. That surgery can't come soon enough, poor guy!!
There is so much going on, that I have to stop and think of what is going on, week by week. Of course I have everything in my phone calendar, if not, I would be lost!!
Have a nice day everyone.

Just popping by really quick as I'm really short of time. I'm sleeping later with it staying dark later in the morning. All the thunder and rain kept me awake in the middle of the night. It was 54Âş when I got up but still dark, windy too with the wind only getting worse as the day wears on. Not getting much warmer as the day goes on either. Rain is all around us too so it was my indoor track to walk. Gotta hit the shower and get ready for work. Have a good day everyone!

Well that was quite a wedding! Absolutely beautiful - the bride as well as the venue. It was at the Hildene-the Lincoln Family Home in Manchester, VT. It’s an historical place so it can be googled if you want to see a picture. The actual ceremony was outside overlooking the Green Mts. of Vermont. Manchester lies between the Green Mts. and the Tahonic hills. Oddly enough, on the Green Mt. side the leaves were still beautiful but on the Taconic side, not so much. I ended up finding a black jumpsuit at Macy’s. I had a gift card and a 25% off coupon so I only paid $50. It certainly can be worn again and wasn’t bad at all getting to the bathroom!
Karen, I’m glad DB is better back on steroids - both mentally and physically. Although $3,600 seems high, it might be the best thing for him since everything is included. Unfortunately, us “older generation” such as DB, sees that amount as outrageous. Does he collect SS?
Robin, Congratulations on the wonderful news! Just wait until you hold that baby girl for the first time - you’ll melt! I remember when DS & DDIL asked us what we wanted to be called - I thought that was so considerate of them and was easy because her parents chose names we would not use ourselves. Yes, college costs are outrageous. The colleges DS’s went to are a good $30,000 more per year now than when they went. Thankfully, DS & DDIL have set up accounts for our grandsons and they are only 1 & 2 yrs. old.
Carol, I was 30 when my first was born and 32 when I had my second. It just makes me an older gramma by 10 years! lol
Marsha, it’s great that your mom is as self-sufficient as she is! Good genes!
Gareth, wow, you sure had enough visits to the funeral home in one weekend! It’s so heartbreaking when they’re so young - whatever the circumstances.
Hi Pinky!
Has anyone read Olive Kitteridge and enjoyed it (I loved it)? The sequel is out called Olive, Again. Some say it’s better than the first. I’ve got it on order at the library.

It is a rainy day here today and sounds like it will be into the night. The guys put in long hours over the weekend harvesting soybeans. Have a lot left to harvest but at least a good start and although they are on the wet side they are dry enough the elevator will take them. The good thing is they have not gotten stuck in the fields. No harvesting today with the rain. Had a nice time with DD's family although it seemed like it went by to fast especially when they did not get here until almost noon on Saturday. DH and DS's were busy in the field of course so they didn't get to see much of DD or DSIL but DGS's loved getting to go in the combine, tractor or trucks or whomever they were with at the time. I did invite DDIL's over Saturday afternoon so the cousins could play for awhile as well. It all went so fast and seemed like we were always running GC to and from the fields and home so they could play or farm.
Karen--your poor DH, he has a lot going on right now. I have thought that from the start too that hopefully this can be a bonding time for you and your DB and that you will be able to have good memories of this time spent together and really getting to know each other.
Gareth----I am having trouble as well with getting up in the morning with it being so dark. I suppose it won't be long till that changes with the time change soon coming up but I really hate it getting so dark early in the evening. Not so bad when winter actually gets here but up until Thanksgiving I don't like it. It is surely easier to get up in the morning though.
Anngie----the wedding sounds like it was absolutely beautiful, how fun to be a part of it. I am going to google it and check it out. Hopefully with the wedding over you can relax and not have to worry about the couples not being invited bringing things up or do you expect this is something that those not invited will hang onto and the friendship with the brides parents will be changed? I have not read Olive Kitteridge but it has been on my TBR list for a very long time. I should check into it----thanks for the reminder.
Since it is rainy I will do some office work today and probably try to make that chiro appt. that never happened last week. I did finish listening to Queen Bee and would rate it 3 to 3.5. I did enjoy it but wouldn't call it a must read by any means. I did find I was always interested in wanting to listen more so held my attention well. I did get One Step To Far back already so will finish the last third of that. After DD's family left yesterday and the guys didn't need me in the field I read quite a bit of The Round House.

Just a normal weekend, ran errands, watched football. I finshed After The Flood. I thought it was very good. The writing was good and the story, although post apocalyptic, was compelling. I am stalling on a next book - that is always a sign that I enjoyed the one I just left.
Robin – re the suggestion that I pay my mother’s bills online. I have suggested to her that she ask her accountant about that. I am sure they have a program where they will handle her routine bills. She already has autopay on some things like her association fees and insurances and she periodically sends me her bank statements which I just look over to see if there is anything that looks like it doesn’t belong. BTW the helper she hired got a full time job so she quit. My mother is in a ground floor condo so stairs are not an issue. When they bought it my father’s eyesight was failing. We had all of our baby furniture before ds was born but we had bought it and didn’t have it delivered until close to the due date (and he was late). Some synagogue friends insisted on throwing a baby shower for me when I was pregnant with dd.
Karen – I went to kohls and didn’t find anything but I ordered a suitcase for dd for her trip to Israel. All I have in the house are the rollerbags I carry on. The luggage I had has started to break down – I picked up one bag and it was rattling, I realized the plastic under the lining was in pieces. I bought her a hard backed bag as I know they aren’t as good about handling luggage as they once were. I wasn't sure what size so I bought a 28". I had a surprise 40% coupon show up on my Kohl’s ap so I decided to get something and if I find a better deal I can always return it.
Anngie – the wedding sounds gorgeous and I’m glad you had a good time.
Pinky – I’m glad that you finally made headway with the harvest. Too bad there is rain again. Grrrr…

We had a thunderstorm late last night. I saw there were some tornadoes in the Dallas area, but it looks like the area where DD lives wasn't involved. It got up into the 80s both Saturday and Sunday, but now is just into the 60s. Now they are saying for the rest of the week, the highs will be in the 60s and 70s and the lows will be in the 40s. We have a call into the HVAC guy.
We went to the play The Mousetrap Friday night. It was put on by our local community theater. It was good. It is a play by Agatha Christie and is the longest running play ever, I think. We had gone to a production of the same play last spring with DS and DDIL in their town and it was awful. Except for the character names, it was hard to believe they were the same play. It was almost like the actors were just reading the lines. The production here included some comedy which made it more enjoyable, too. Saturday I woke up with a headache, not a terrible one, maybe 3 or 4 on a scale of 1 - 10. I just stayed in all day and didn't do much. Yesterday was church as usual along with face-timing with DGS.
Karen, I wondering, too, about your brother selling his house to a flipper. That's what we did to ILs house. It had holes in the wall, a basement that had flooded, worn-out floors and dirt. The sale included the contents, too. We had gone through a lot of the closets and cabinets and cleaned those out some, too. We looked on Zillow and the guy had done quite a bit of work and was trying to rent the house out. My DS finally sold her house about 2 years ago to a flipper. There are quite a few houses here in our town that have been flipped. I guess my point is that is might be something to look into. DB may not get much, but at least may get something.
I read Olive Kitteridge. I liked it, too. I read there was a sequel. I need to go to the library.
