Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. I can hear it raining, with the winds, should clear out by afternoon, and chilly at 47.
Gareth, has your weather cleared yet? I agree, about loosing so much daylight, that is so hard to get used to at this time of year. It is so dark out right now, with the rain, and it being just after 6 am.
Anngie, the wedding sounds so nice. How was the food? Lol, now that you mention the steriods, DB Radiation doctor is going to wean him off, since his last radiation is tomorrow. I agree with you about the $3,600. With it being so all inclusive, and he does not even need his car, I feel he is getting so much out of that fee. Yes, he should start getting SS starting in December, but his is not a very decent monthly size. But that is where his retirement would come in.
Pinky, we are in the rain mod here too. I see we are looking forward to drying out after today. DH said that there is no way our farmers can get into the fields yet, with it being so wet. From what I am reading, this winter will be a continuation of this summer. I can't imagine having the amount of rain we have had, being snow. That is just depressing.
Marsha, does your mother need more hands on care? From the sound of it, she is pretty well set up, just maybe needs some kind of nursing service checking on her possibly? Are you her power of Attorney? When is your DD going to Israel?
Carol, that whole line of storms the other night, with the tornadoes in Dallas was huge. A lady and her DH, who I knew from an old WW message thread are full time RVers. They are parked at an RV park at Branson MO. right now, and that night at 1 am had to go to the parks shelter, as the sirens were going off. Very scary bad storm. About DB house, my siblings and I feel the house is not even worth flipping. Very sad, how he let that house get to how it is.
Robin, sorry about that football game. I had my fingers crossed that they could win. Seems the Packer always loose to teams that have more losses than them, we feel they do not take them seriously.
Yesterday was a weird day, weather wise, as it was windy, rainy, even raining hard as we took DB to radiation at 3 in the afternoon, and as we came out an hour later, it was sunny! A friend of DH, who lives on the bay (Green Bay), the west side of it, was getting hammered by that high wind blowing in from the east. His wife took a video of how their house was surrounded by water from the bay, and their house is set way back from the shoreline. If they had to leave to get somewhere, they would not have been able to. I think the wind died down, maybe even switched overnight, so they might have made thru the worst.
Better get going, earlier day today, with DB, with his chemo this morning. Have a nice day.

Sun is shining here today after a rainy day yesterday. We had extremely high winds yesterday 50-60 mph which made the day very miserable. It is going to be very windy again today and only 33 degrees right now. We are in for some cold nights coming up and we are predicted to get some snow tomorrow. I did have a chiro appt yesterday and it was a nasty day for driving with the rain and wind but glad I went. He gave me a workout and I can tell it yet today but the knee that I have been having trouble with sure feels better today for the most part. I need to take it easy today I think and let what he did yesterday heal. I will surely still be moving around plenty but will probably do some book work for the farm side of things. So often the next day I jump on the lawnmower and bounce around on that. Hopefully that will help as I have been terribly achy the past few weeks. Guessing this dang weather is not helping and I have been carrying boxes from the old house as well but I thought I was in better shape than to be hurting like this, so guess I will blame it on the weather.
Anngie---I looked up Hildene and wow it is beautiful. How fun you were able to be a part of a wedding there.
Karen---Yes very depressing winter weather forecast---UUUGGGHHHH!!!
The big news in our area is that ESPN College Gameday is coming to Brookings, SD which is 22 miles from us to be there for the SDSU vs. NDSU football game this Saturday. These 2 teams are huge rivals so it will be quite exciting. DS#1 graduated from SDSU and DS#2 graduated from NDSU so we have the rivalry right here in our home with it---LOL!!! NDSU is in Fargo ND so only 2 1/2 hours from us which makes it 3 hours to Brookings from Fargo so Brookings is anticipating many people in town for the big day. They say all hotels are booked and any eating establishment has prepared for serving many people.
I am feeling a little important as yesterday morning I recommended the audiobook/book The Oysterville Sewing Circle through Overdrive as they did not have it available. By early evening I was notified they had it for me to borrow. As I thought about it I remembered that I had recommended Queen Bee a couple of weeks ago and several days later they let me know they had it to borrow. Bad thing is I didn't love Queen Bee but with Dorothea Benton Frank as the author I would hope there would be many to borrow it. I am glad I read it, just not one of the books on my list for favorites. This probably comes thanks to you or from the FB old WW group suggestions.

Karen - my mother is capable of doing most things for herself and if it weren't for her eyesight she would be fine with no help. There are things she shouldn't do - like when she climbed up on a kitchen ladder to clean out a top shelf in a kitchen cupboard. She is capable of doing the basics without help - dressing, bathing, preparing meals (except that is harder since it is hard for her to see what she is cutting and she can't read her recipes anymore). She has someone clean every other week. So it boils down to someone to drive her around, sort out her pills, and do the things she shouldn't do (like cleaning out the shelves). She doesn't need a nurse to visit. I suggested she talk to her friend who is a college professor about whether there might be a student looking for a little extra money every week to spend a few hours with her. DD is going to Israel for 10 days over Christmas break. I am on my mother's bank and investment accounts and I believe somewhere there is probably a power of attorney. She has been good about being proactive about all that.
Pinky - I have both of those books on hold.
I'm almost done with the Mitch Rabb audio book - I think another 20 minutes so by the time I get home from work at the end of the day I should be done with it. Not reading anything right now. Still letting After The Flood settle. Do you ever go back and reread the end? It seems like sometimes I rush through the end of a book and have to go back and read it again.

Just finished laundry and surprisingly there wasn't as much as usual. That may not be a good thing since DH could be stockpiling which he's been known to do. It's still so windy here so I didn't even consider walking outdoors. Listened to The Last Of The Stanfields while I walked downstairs. I finally got into it enough that I'll see it through to see how it ends.
Karen, I think I'd still get a professional view on DH's house. Has he lived there long? Is it just in the last few years he's let it go or has he never taken care of it? I take it he was never married?
Pinky, I'll have to look up The Oysterville Sewing Circle since I'm not familiar with it. Sounds like a good idea taking it a little easy today.
Marsha, I'll have to check out After The Flood as it's another one I'm not familiar with.

Anngie, I looked on line at the wedding venue. It is beautiful.
I had not heard that the tornadoes were around Branson. That would really be a blow (so to speak) to the economics to that city if it was hit.
I finished a book The Dinner by Herman Koch. Has anyone read it? It is hard to describe. It's about 2 couples (2 brothers and their wives) who get together at a restaurant for dinner. One of the brothers is the narrator. It seems like a normal dinner and then in the middle of the book, one of the men says, "we need to talk about our kids" and things take a strange turn. I'm not sure if I liked or not, but I kept reading to see what was going on.
The HVAC guy came yesterday and checked out the furnace. It was nice to turn the heat on this morning to take the chill out. I think that is how it's going to be for a while, chilly nights and nice mild days.

Carol - I've looked at that book but never put it on my list. I think I'll skip it.

Yeah, I don't remember where I heard about it. I found it at a thrift store for only 50 cents and decided it was worth a try. It's hard to recommend it because it is rather weird.

Well, for any of you who follow football, you know that we had a terrible game last night. We had a great tailgate, but DH and I left before halftime, so the good news was we were home before 10:30, and that was with getting gas on the way home.
Karen, funny you said that about next year. I said something to DS about how I thought we would give up some of the seats we have, that don't have seat licenses, keep the 3 licensed seats, and if we need extra tickets because the girls want to come, which I really doubt, we will buy tickets for that game. Between what they both have going on all the time, I am sure they are not going to go to every game. My DB will also buy tickets when he wants to go. I get spots in my scalp too, but they don't hurt. My dermatologist said they are nothing to worry about.
Pinky, glad they got the harvesting done. I keep reading about farmers having an overabundance of soybeans, but are they a different type?
Anngie, glad you enjoyed the wedding. Do they still have outlets in Manchester? That was one of the first places I ever went to outlets, and it was a small grouping, not like the outlet malls they have these days.
Carol, that book actually sounds like it could be interesting.
Marsha, is your DD going on Birthright? I could not convince my older one to go. We did go to Israel with some of my family when he was in college, but Birthright is different. My younger DS went after law school (He had a good boss), and loved the experience. I think both my DDIL's went too.
Gareth, that happens sometimes with books, they are slow to start but then they suck you in.
I read Oysterville Sewing Circle and really enjoyed it. I did not love Olive Kitteridge, too slow for me, but I know a lot of people loved it. I am reading Ask Again Yes, haven't read that much of it but it sucked me in right away and I am not sure why.
