Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Still breezy and chance of light rain, the high's now are not that high, in the 40's.
Pinky, sorry about your weather....none of us want that darned snow! My DD2 and her family, in the past went to the chiro quite regularly, but I never heard her mention how she felt afterwards. Is it because you have not gone lately, or because you have not been feeling the best? Just like you with how you have been feeling, my stupid cold is dragging on and on. I am now started to wonder if it is an allergy, maybe to something here in the apartment, that was used in construction. Just grabbing at straws I guess. How fun this Saturday!!! Are you all going to the game? Way to go on getting your opinion heard, on what book you want them to carry!!! Nice!!
Marsha, I had forgotten your mom's eyesight is no good. Take away all step stools and ladders! (I am sure you probably did). Have you ever thought of moving her up here? She probably wouldn't want to come up here. That reminds me of a video I watched on FB last night, with Charlie, and the Manitowoc Minute, making fun of how Wisconsinites talk. I was watching that at 11 at night, laughing my head off. Us people born and raised in Wisco do not think of the weird ways we talk, we think it is normal. Sorry I kind of went off subject. I think that is so neat, for how old she is, she still lives on her own!
Gareth, I just scolded DH about how he wears something for half a day and puts it in the laundry basket. He insists it is dirty, but I know it isn't. I finally gave up, guess trying to cut back a little on water usage is a loosing battle. One of those things that I have to pick my battles and this one is not worth it. DB has been in his house around 20 years, and we think it probably was no great prize to begin with. Since he never worked at really good paying jobs, he probably didn't have extra money to remodel, what with him being the only person living in it. No, he never married.
Carol, I am not sure if there were actual tornadoes in Mo, she just said they had bad storms all night, and then the siren went off at 1 am, and them being in a RV campground, went to the shelter. I am sure a tornado did not go thru the campground. Yay, on your furnace passing inspection! When we were in the old house, we had that done every fall, and with that furnace being so old, we were always ecstatic that it passed inspection, since it was old. The last couple days it has been a tad chilly, so instead of turning on the furnace, I turn on the fireplace for a little while, to take the chill out.
Robin, I am not sure if there are any seats at Lambeau field that have licenses...it all goes back to having season tickets. Then people sell them to friends and who ever. I could and probably am very wrong about the licenses. I just keep waiting for it NOT to be the Patriots year, very tired of them being the AFC's #1 team, year after year.
DB did very well with his 2nd chemo treatment yesterday, and his mind seems to be doing better. I am going to back off on trying to get him to put the house up for sale and move. I know I might regret it, but I feel this is the right way to go, right now.
Am in between books, and took one from Overdrive last night, and sure enough, I have read it before. So, I am still without a book.
Have a nice day everyone.

Robin - yes dd is going on birthright. DS went at the same time (winter of his sophomore year) and really enjoyed it but I think more as a tourist than as any kind of connection.
Karen - it is far too cold here for my mother. And she has an amazing network of friends that I could never replicate for her. If she leaves phoenix it would probably be to go to Atlanta near my brother but even so, she would leave this network of people that help her out and watch out for her and I think that would be a big mistake. One child does not replace a community. Perhaps asking db to move while undergoing chemo might be adding too much stress to an otherwise already stressed out body. The familiarity of his home is probably somewhat of a touchstone for him.
Today is dh's birthday. Not doing much, we'll go to dinner tonight and this morning I baked his favorite cookies and left a plate of them on the table with his birthday card. So here is an annoying start to the day - making his favorite Ginger Cookies which require ground cloves. I opened the jar of cloves which someone gave me in a gift box from Penzeys, it is whole cloves. I had to run out to the grocery store at 6:30 this morning for ground cloves to finish the cookies. Then when I took one of the trays out of the oven the cookies started sliding off into the bottom of the oven. Things can only get better, right? Anyway, Saturday ds and gf will come down for dinner and I am making dh's favorites fried chicken and apple pie.

As usual it seems anymore I'm always short on time when I stop by so this will be quick. 32ΒΊ when I got up but finally no wind. Everything was frosty when I went out to the mailbox. Since it was still dark I walked indoors
Since I'm not a football fan I'm confused about seats being licensed. I've never heard of that. I'm sure a dumb question but why would they have to be licensed?
Karen, maybe time to see the Dr about your cold.
Robin, I looked up Ask Again Yes. It sounds interesting and from what you said I put it in my wish list. Maybe I'll get it after What Rose Forgot. Took me awhile but I'm finally into The Last Of The Stanfields. Part of my problem was keeping characters straight jumping back and forth in time which usually isn't a problem for me.
Coffee is ready. Got to have breakfast and get to work....

I have the same question as Gareth----what are licensed seats? Robin---I need to clarify that we did not get done harvesting, we only got a good start on it. We have a few weeks ahead of us to say we are finished and that is if we have no more rain or snow. Wish I could say we are done. I did add Ask Again, Yes to my wish list. Karen--I always feel terrible the day after the chiropractor and most times worse than when I went in, crazy I know! I have this happen even after I have gone to 3 different chiro's through the years. They all say it is because my muscles are all working different again and they just need to get used to the change. Most times the chiropractor has been very gentle with me and it hasn't even hurt, other than some tenderness while I am in there. I still feel it today which is unusual but I think this weather has a part of it. Not planning to go to the game, hoping to harvest. We actually had a chance for tickets through our bank as an appreciation way back before ESPN announced they would be there but we had declined as we really need to harvest our crops--that is surely our highest priority at this point of the harvest. Often times we would be done by now and we only have a start to it. Crazy as it is we declined there are no tickets available. DS#2 really wants to go if we are not in the field but with the next 3 days being sunny I am guessing he will be working. He doesn't have tickets but he is the kind that would probably find them some how---he has a lot of connections as he is Mr. PR around here. I think he would like to go down and check out the ESPN activity which anyone can go to and it is before the game. I think you are making the right choice on not pushing your DB at this point, when nothing seems available right now why not let him stay in his comfort zone. You will know when it is time to move forward with another plan and it might help to wait to know what sort of housing he needs at the time. Good Call!! Marsha---How exciting for your DD, I bet she is excited. Happy Birthday to your DH and my goodness you are a dear wife to do all of that running around and messing with those cookies so early in the morning---hope your day goes better. Gareth--crazy that it is a bit warmer here than at your place, we were at a whapping 35 degrees early this morning. I ended up riding with DH to Sioux Falls yesterday in the afternoon as he needed some parts and other things down there so today I am doing the farm books that I didn't do yesterday. We stopped in Brookings on our way home to eat at our favorite pizza place so that was nice. It is a pizza place that has been around since the early 1960's and we have grown up and old with it---LOL!!! It is a really thin crust so hopefully not to many points. Anyway a good day to stay in and do books as it is cold, dark and gloomy out. Our eastern part of the state could seem some snow flurries today --supposed to be a hit an miss thing to the area and I am keeping my fingers crossed for a miss here. Have a good day dear friends!!

I don't know what licensed seats are either.
From the reviews on Amazon, it seems The Dinner is a popular book club read. I can see how there could be a lot of discussion about it.

Karen, seat licenses are what the season ticket holders pay. In most stadiums, all season ticket holders have a seat license that they have paid also. The Jets never had it until their most recent move, and only some tickets have seat licenses, and they are all different amounts. Our Level 300 seats do not have licenses. The 200 level seats have licenses with a 15 year pay-out, not sure how many years we have left, but they are much nicer seats. To begin with, they are bigger, have padding, and there is more room between each row. To top it off, we are in a section that is a sliver, and our row has 4 seats only, so it is just us, between the rail that separates us from the non-club seats and aisle, so they are really great. They are in the corner of the stadium, so the side of the end zone. We get a great view of the whole field from there, but obviously better when they are in our end of the field.
I agree that your DB is better off staying where he is than moving while he is getting treatments. Even if you do a lot of it, it is a lot of stress for him. If everything ends up working out, and he wants to move, then he can. Forcing him is not a great idea.
Pinky, sounds like you had a nice day yesterday with DH taking that trip. We ended up having pizza for lunch yesterday. I actually have 2 pieces that I brought home. It turns out that our old secretary didn't like pizza, so that was not in our rotation. yesterday we got pizza with mushrooms, onions, roasted red peppers and marinated eggplant. 1 large pizza and 3 salads for the 5 of us. Next time we will order a pizza with 2 salads, we had 1 full one left over, which DS brought home for dinner. Imagine my surprise when I went to the refrigerator today to have that for lunch, and it was gone! There were some of each of the other 2, but mainly the lettuce, which he had for lunch before I got there, so I ran out and picked up something. Thanks for talking about the pizza because it reminded me that I had it.
Marsha, I am sure that DD will have a great time, part of it is being a tourist, which is great, but they also have guides with them who are young Israelis, and that is fun.
Gareth, someone from the Wow Facebook page started Ask Again Yes from my recommendation, and loves it too. The thing is we can't explain why we love it.
Carol, our library has The Dinner available to download, so I will have to remember it when I have nothing else to read. Right now I have my wireless turned off because I didn't get to Ask Again Yes in time.
Tomorrow is my sister's birthday, and she was planning to come out to pack up the rest of DM's stuff, so I am going to take her out to lunch. Today I thought would be a quiet day because DH was leaving to go to Saratoga, but I ended up being busy. The buyer's lawyer of my DM's house said that they were looking into an issue that had to do with eminent domain of the property by the county. There was the original paperwork on it in DM's safety deposit box, that I had, so I sent it over to her. My DM's property sides a main road. Back in 1982 when they wanted to widen it near a main intersection they took a sliver off one corner of the property. They took more from the neighbor behind who was on the corner of the 2 main roads. Hopefully that took care of the issue.
