Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Cold now, going to warm to a big temp of 47! At least it will be sunny.
Pinky, my DD2 and her DH always insist that going to the Chiro helps them. She will take the kids there when I would think to take them to a family doctor. They truly believe in them. Whatever works. Did you have to go on a parts run? I never mind hoping on the highway and running, as long as it isn't every day. With our running every day this week, I am looking forward to today, with the 2 DGC coming right before lunchtime, that I do not have to run, except I should go to the Y. You sure do not need the Y, with your lifestyle, you do enough working out!! Pinky, I agree on the licensing!!
Gareth, IF the Packers have licensing on any of their seats, (I do not think they do, as I have never heard of it, till Robin mentioned it), it has to be the newer seats, from the remodel. Funny that DH can not explain the how and why of it. All I know is how we grew up, which was and still is: my parents were season ticket holders of 2 seats since maybe 1960, and every year around late winter they would get an invoice, as to how much their bill is, and when the Pack needed that money by. The tickets are in my brothers name now, has been for maybe 10 years, (the brother that is ill), so my other brother and I pitch in to pay that bill. No licensing involved. My brother (older) usually pays the majority of the bill, and then gets all those tickets. DH and I do get a pick, as to which game we want to go to. I hope that helps, as licensing does sound a little weird, but it does not affect most Packer fans. I would not be able to go by our old house, if it became run down....that would just hurt too much.
Anggie, thank you. I swear the tenants under us have to have their furnace on full blast! Yesterday got so warm up here, I had both bedroom window open! DH finally decided it had cooled off, about 5 hours later. We still do not have our furnace turned on. Funny thing is, the heat is paid for, we do not pay for it. They are saying we could see snow next week. How depressing. I agree about the 68 degrees, even our 47 high today will be a temp we would wish for, come January/February.
Carol thank you. Oh my! Your mention of coming out of Walmart with it raining brought back memories of this past summer, where we were sheltered in place in the back of the store due to tornado warnings. That part of the summer was so full of storms in our area, it just kept on and on. In answer to your question about DB house, it is not a hoarding situation, we are guessing it was very run down when he bought it from the little old lady, and never had the money, what with living alone and not really making good money, to do anything about it. Now, with no basement, the foundation is rotting, which means the floors are in terrible shape, it would take an army to clean everything, and the smell! Very strong of mold/mildew. With my lung issues, I refuse to go back in there, so I worry about when his cancer does advance and we need to go in there and help him. That is why I have said, my sister and I can't understand why he lived like that all these years, because as part of our family growing up, we were raised with always keeping the house clean, and neat. Our parents were blue collar workers, and worked hard, but they raised us to do our chores and clean the house every week.
Marsha, that helps, to have a store right in the neighborhood. Most areas around the town do not have that. About DB house, see what I wrote about it to Carol, above. The thing is, in order to get anyone in there to get opinions or estimates, my DB would probably have to be out of the house, I do not think he would agree to it. This is just a very sad situation, that I can't see ending good. We are walking on egg shells, not wanting to offend our DB. I think that is an excellent program for your DD to be able to go to Israel. I do have to admit, I am very fuzzy, when it comes to the politics of the 2 sides, so you will get no argument from me. Whatever it takes and how, to get her there is a good thing. How many students will she travel with? Did you say it is right after Christmas? Where did you have fish tacos? DH has always wanted to try those, but afraid they would not be good. We are taking DD1 and her DH to Margaritas tomorrow night, so maybe we will try the fish tacos if that is on the menu.
Robin, this whole thing with DB happened so fast, and with all that we have done, it can get so overwhelming. So fast I went from not hearing from him since last Christmas to being his Power of Attorney! Lol, about the self rising flour, I did go buy a bag for the pizza dough. So far that one pizza is all I used the flour for. Oh, now I want baked haddock, since you mentioned fish for lunch. I have a very good and easy recipe for it, but with the 2 grands coming for the night, I know they will want something like pizza.
The halloween party at the school was fun, but exhausting, so glad to get home.
A busy day here once the grand kids come, then I will run to Papa Murphy's for a big pizza for dinner.
I took out a book last night from Overdrive, and after the first chapter, I am not sure about this read at all. It is Always Mine, by Ruth Cardello.
Have a nice day everyone.

Going to be a nice day here today. Woke up to 35 degrees which is cool but the sun is shining, the sky is bright blue and should be around 55 degrees. It was very nice yesterday as well and we had better enjoy it as next week it will be downright cold. They are talking about 18 degrees in the night I think it is Tuesday night and cold for Halloween. YIKES!!! Anngie--it would be more for arthritis and just an overall feeling of needing my body adjusted---no disc issues(knock on wood). I had a pinched nerve in my neck in the 90's and it has just never been the same since although I do not have the issues at the time it was pinched. It just gets out of whack easily. Sometimes just bending down I can feel it go out and sometimes it is just a gradual thing that happens and I do not even always notice it so much in my neck but I get sinus headaches and then I know I need to go in as well. My last chiro who retired told me that the 1st and 2nd vertabrae which is high in the neck area really affect your sinuses, eyes and even the ears. I learned so much from her about my body and how it all works together I really miss her. Karen--yes I insist the chiro helps me as well and I totally respect those people that don't care for them. I say what ever works. Yes I did go on the parts run and got a good start on listening to The Oysterville Sewing Circle. Thinking it will be good. I would have liked to have spent more time in Sioux Falls and did some birthday and Christmas shopping but DH was needing the part and at this point the shopping isn't pressing. I just wanted a start on it as we have the twins birthday and DS#1 birthday in Novemeber and 2 DGS's and DS#2 birthday in December so it gets to be so much all at the same time so nice to get a start. Can you even believe Christmas is 2 months away? !!!!!!! Yeah I get a pretty good workout without even trying---I have a health app on my phone and just noticed a couple of days ago it said I average 8,236 steps a day and that is usually without even trying to get steps in. Enjoy your day with the grands! Have a great day ladies!

What a start to my day. DH woke me out of a sound sleep shortly after 4:00 saying he thought he needed to go to the ER that he was having chest pain. I was awoke out of such a deep sleep I couldn't get my bearings and didn't get up right away. Then I thought I was dreaming. I jumped up and by that time DH had already left. Then I was frantic worrying he'd have a heart attack on the way. Before I flew out of here I got a text from DH that they were going to shock his heart to get it back in rhythm. By time I got there his heart was back in rhythm so he didn't have to be shocked. They wanted to wait an hour and see if it stayed in rhythm which it did. Then he started getting lightheaded with extreme heartburn. They gave him Mylanta and then he was ok. After another hour when he was feeling much better they sent him home to followup with his cardiologist. He was just there last Monday for his six month checkup. His cardiologist was really pleased at how well he was doing so this was a strange episode. DH is blaming leftover meatloaf he ate yesterday giving him severe heartburn but I can't believe that caused a bad bout of afib. I really think he's been pushing himself too much and not getting enough rest which the ER Dr. agreed with. He's been putting in long days at work helping with inventory. He did let them know he'd be back to work Monday but working shorter hours from now on. He's taking a nap now. I just finished the laundry. Now I'm heading out for a walk when I'm done here. Sunny day around 50º Sounds like a nice weekend in the 50's then highs in the 30's and 20's overnight starting Tuesday so I better enjoy walking outdoors while I can. I finished listening to The Last Of The Stanfields doing laundry. Glad I stuck it out since I ended up liking it. It really had an unexpected twist at the end. I've started What Rose Forgot now so I'll listen to it while I walk.
Karen, I bought a bag of self rising flour to make the two ingredient bagels. I never got around to making them before I had to throw out the flour when it expired so as much as I've heard about them I still haven't made them. I think I'm a little hesitant since I've never liked working with dough.
Hi to everyone! Sorry it was all about me today.
Edited to add that btw...I gave DH strict orders if/when anything like that ever happens again to make sure he gets me up and I'm awake!

Gareth---OMG don't apologize----what a morning you had indeed. I hope all will be okay with your DH. My DFIL had his heart stopped once to get it back in rhythm and it did the trick. Has your DH had heart issues in the past??

Gareth, wow, that is scary about your DH. Glad everything turned out okay. One time, I had to take my DH to the ER for the same reason. About 3 years ago, he had another episode. His work called an ambulance so he was at the hospital before I even knew about it. He had to stay over night in the hospital. He goes to a cardiologist now, but so far everything is fine. A lot of his was job stress. He had a new boss so there were changes going on and was staying late and going in early.
Karen, thank you for explaining more about your DB's situation. You are a good sister to help like you are.
Marsha, your DD's trip sounds great. Both of my kids went to Europe during their college years. DD's group was based in England, but went to other countries, too. DS went to Ireland and England.
It is cold and rainy again.

Gareth - omg what a frightening morning you had! So glad all is well now but that sure was scary. I can only imagine how you felt when you finally realized what was going on and dh had already gone on ahead without you!

Karen, with the licensing, the fee is not forever, it can get paid off at the most after 15 years, over time. My guess is that there was no licensing back in 1960, but people had seasons tickets they could transfer, and were grandfathered in once licensing started. Each team decides for themselves how they handle it. Back in those days the players got paid relatively little. My husband always mentions that Mickey Mantle earned $100,000 in 1963. Now he would probably earn $25 million. They have to get that money from somewhere.
As far as your brother's house goes, it could have a mold problem, so maybe you can tell him that it could be contributing to how he feels, so he should get that checked out. Someone could get one of the mold test kits that you mail away for results, or you could hire someone to test for it. All you have to do is google black mold and you can read all about it.
I also was thinking of you because, even though I know you don't like romance books, on Amazon I saw a kindle book that was free, from the Door County series, so thought of you.
Pinky, it's easy to have calcium deposits build up in and around your joints, which is a type of arthritis, and that can cause pinched nerves, or certainly inflammation.
Gareth, I will tell you an interesting afib story. A friend's son bought him an Apple watch for Father's Day. He showed him how there was something he could click on that showed his heart rate. Well, it showed he was in afib, so he went to the emergency room, and needed heart surgery. I guess your DH could always get an Apple Watch, and check for himself. Maybe he really wasn't in afib. They always say the other way around, people mistake a heart problem for heart burn, but maybe he really did have heart burn.
I had a winning night at mah jongg last night, I won a whole dollar. This morning I had to go over to the courts to take care of 2 things. I am going with a friend to meet another friend for dinner tonight because DH is still in Saratoga. I am almost at the end of Ask Again Yes. Not sure why I am loving it, but I am. I am hoping to finish it before I go for dinner.

Oh Gareth, what a night, what a day! I’m so sorry to hear this about your DH! Unfortunately, sometimes it takes something like this for a person to step back and take a look at what they’re doing - working far too much. Is he under stress at work as well or is it too many hours - too many days? I hope he rests this weekend and takes it easy. Keep us posted!

Karen, to go along with what Robin said about mold. It could also have asbestos which is a major problem.
Just to throw this out, DH's doctor said to always call 911 with chest pain. Something could happen just from the house to the hospital and EMS is equipped to handle it. Also, hospitals do a blood test that can tell you in just an hour if you had a heart attack. I know people don't want to call an ambulance because of the expense, but this is a case of better to be safe than sorry.
