HOLIDAY BREAD (SINCE THIS IS AN OLD RECIPE IT DOES CALL FOR SHORTENING.-- I USE THE CRISCO STICKS) PREHEAT OVEN TO 350° AND SPRAY A REGULAR SIZED BREAD PAN.
1/2 CUP OF SHORTENING 1 CUP OF SUGAR 2 EGGS , BEATEN 3 MEDIUM BANANAS-- MASHED 2 CUPS OF FLOUR 1 TEASPOON BAKING SODA 1/4 CUP OF MARASCHINO CHERRIES, ( I USE WHOLE ONES CHOPPED IN HALF.) 1/4 CUP CHOCOLATE CHIPS (ANY KIND YOU LIKE, I USE SEMI SWEET ONES) 1/4 CUP CHOPPED NUTS, WALNUTS OR PECANS THE BEST.
MIX IN ORDER OF THE RECIPE, POUR INTO LARGE BREAD PAN AND BAKE 45 MINUTES AT 350°. USE TOOTHPICK TO TEST THE MIDDLE. IF STILL PRETTY WET BAKE A BIT MORE. OVENS ARE ALL DIFFERENT AS ARE PANS.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE NUTS OR CAN'T EAT THEM ADD MORE CHOCOLATE CHIPS, IF YOU DON'T LIKE CHOCOLATE CHIPS ADD MORE NUTS OR CHERRIES. YOU GET THE IDEA!!

Hi, Connie, never thought of the cherries. Sounds good. I just like pure banana bread but cherries would add a nice flavor to it.

Connie, this sounds like the banana bread a friend used to make. We worked together and she would always bring something for the staff to eat when she worked and this banana bread was I'd bet, the number one best loved food she brought. I liked it so much she would make me my own loaf. Even after we both retired we would get together and often she would bring me some of this bread.
Thank you for posting. My friend is gone now but there are so many things that remind me of her. She was a wonderful woman

CAt, you have to try it with the cherries. They are SO good!! It was my favorite part. I could easily do without the choc chips
I wish I had some bananas. Wonder how it would be made with gluten free flour
