Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. One more dry day, not as warm as yesterday, but dry, then during the night tonight, snow. Could be up to 2", but won't stay, as the ground is too warm. Chilly weak, with high of mid 40's.
Gareth, our day here yesterday was a beautiful day, was able to go for a walk, hope yours was too. What do you have in your rock garden, seasonal decorations? My DH would LOVE you for making split pea soup!! The only time he gets it is when he goes and visits his close elderly friends. Yes, lol, I sure did appreciate the quiet yesterday!!
Robin, sorry you had to do chores in the rain. We did not get snow that stuck here yet, just that kind of snow that you can see, but just wets the ground. The snow we are supposed to get tonight might stick on the grass, at first, but will melt shortly after. This kind of weather usually comes around the first or second week of November. That is sweet about your DH missing you, while gone. I think my DH would be the same way, as it seems like the older he has gotten, the more closer he has gotten to me. Of course I am not quite like him.
Carol, your friend sounds like a lot of work. Glad for you that she moved away!! I wish, just a little, that I passed on dessert at the mexican place we went to Saturday night, but since I did not eat much for the dinner, in my mind I felt I could, but, overall, I should have passed on it. There have been a few new diets coming out lately, from different friends on FB, and each and every one of them is, at least in the beginning, pretty strict about carbs. My cousin in law lost 50 pounds this year on a 4 step program, with the carbs being the bad guy, she is happy, so whatever works, but I agree with you, that WW is the best for an overall weight loss program.
Pinky, your weather reminds me how November ends up being here. Just chilly all around, also, it seems to be gloomy all of that month. At least after the snow is over early tomorrow, the sun is supposed to come out. I took a walk yesterday afternoon, and saw the farmers that own all the corn crops that basically surround our buildings here, out with their machines, taking down the corn. Lots of activity, but it looked like they quit at dark. Maybe it was because the Packer game was last night. I am sure they will be back at it today, trying to beat the snow. I can't imagine having to work till 4 in the morning! I am so happy for you to have such a Pastor. A couple we went to that church we left, stopped over yesterday and of course the subject came up about the goings on at the church, what with the Council bringing in the Bishop about trying to get rid of the Pastor, and it sure sounds like a lot of tension, going to service every Sunday, we are so glad to be gone from there.
Yesterday was such a nice day, not having to run anywhere, and the nice weather, I was able to walk 1 mile, and then later had company for a couple hours. Then the Packers played the Chiefs in the evening, which of course I did not watch, as I hate night games. But DH kept me up to date. The Pack won the game, so that is nice. Going out to lunch with DB today. Otherwise I will either take a walk, or go to the Y. Have a nice day.

As usual running short of time before getting ready for work Walking was my priority. DS just texted that they were at the ER overnight with DGD with shortness of breath and rapid heart beat. He sent me a link with the long name for it. It sounds so similar to DH's afib. They sent her home with a prescription and she's to see a pediatric cardiologist. Scary especially finding out this has been going on for a couple of months and she didn't tell her parents about it until last night when it got worse.
Karen, no yesterday didn't end up being a nice enough day for a walk even with temps similar to the day before it was so windy. After we were done with the rock garden we were more than happy to get back inside out of that COLD wind. I can't think now of the names of the plants in the rock garden. They come back every year but need cut back every fall except for the burning bush. DH thought he didn't like split pea soup. He loved this recipe. Different with lima beans and barley also in it.

Karen, you mentioned an in-door grill. I can’t quite picture this - do you mean a George Foreman grill? If not I’d like to hear about it! LOL the elderly people I know won’t eat pea soup!!
Gareth, in the past I’ve put barley in my pea soup too. In fact, it was a WW recipe that used it. It was very good - and thick!
Robin, how is your DDIL feeling? What a difference 200 +/- miles make with the leaves on the trees! Our leaves have turned and now that we had a lot of rain yesterday many leaves are down. Now we look at gray trees for the next 6-7 months! Did DH enjoy any free time in Saratoga? Beautiful town.
Carol, I agree about not having to give up certain foods. That’s why WW works so well. WW to live by! After reading your description, I wonder if that woman is really a friend - to anyone. In my “old age” I’ve realized that life is too short for such nonsense.
Pinky, it’s so nice that you have a pastor that’s adored. The pastor we have now is well liked but we’ve had a couple over the years that were not. And, it’s terribly hard to get rid of them too.
I finished A Well Behaved Woman last night. It was good especially if one’s interested in the Gilded Age and the VERY wealthy.

Gareth - how is dgd today?
We love split pea soup.
Did anyone else get an email from WW about upcoming changes? They didn't say what the changes will be but they did say that with a digital membership you can "try" a meeting for free. I didn't realize that. but as a life member I know I can always go and pay the weekly fee.
We went to lunch with ds and gf yesterday, dh's choice since it was his birthday lunch so he picked Red Robin. I ended up with an Impossible Cheeseburger and instead of the bottomless fries I got salad. The burger was actually quite good. Came home and had apple pie for desert. And that was after fried chicken and apple pie at home on Saturday. And dh opened the Halloween candy so there was some chocolate last night. In spite of that my weight went up about .8 on Saturday and down .5 today but I think in a few days I will see a big bump from this weekend. MUST GET THIS UNDER CONTROL.
We've decided we have to go to ds and gf's Halloween party saturday even though it will feel like crashing someone else's family reunion. We have to come up with costumes. I have a witch's hat that was headed for goodwill that I retrieved from that bag and I think I'll just wear all black - black pants, black top, and the hat. I don't have a cape or gown. I'm not sure what dh will be - ds and gf suggested tourist with shorts, sandals with socks, they suggested a Hawaiian shirt but dh doesn't have one, but he does have an old SLR camera to hang around his neck and a straw hat.

Oh, Gareth, so sorry about your DGD. Hope she is feeling better and the meds do their job. How old is she?
Pinky, that's nice having an appreciation lunch for your pastor. Our church has done that before. Karen, I'm sorry things are still bad at your old church. It must be very discouraging to go to church and there be discord. It should be a place of peace. I hope it gets straightened out soon.
I made up for not having dessert at lunch by going out with friends for ice cream in the evening.
You all are right, my friend wasn't really a friend. I remember telling DH when they moved away that it was a relief. I'm so non-confrontational that I let things she did slide by. Still today I can think of things that happened where I should have said something and I didn't. I don't beat myself up over it like I used to. She and her DH came into our lives when I needed a friend. We both had babies and were stay at home moms. Anyway, it's over and I'm better at speaking up for myself.
Our church has a preschool and they are having Trunk or Treat. I didn't know what that was, but it is where people decorate their cars and hand out candy from the trunk. It is supposed to be cold, but we are helping with the food so we will be inside. We don't have to be in costume since we'll be in the kitchen most of the time. We both have orange t-shirts with jack-o-lanterns on them. Marsha, you might look at Goodwill or other thrift stores for a cape. Our Goodwill has a huge Halloween section and things are half-price now.

Its been a crazy Monday---nothing specific.Just a Monday and different unusual things to do or that came up so didn't make it on tell now. Can you even believe it is the last week of October already???
Gareth---prayers for your DGD.
Hopefully I can catch up with you and some personals tomorrow although I expect another crazy day---harvest has surely come upon us which is good but leaving me short of time. It will be a colder week but no moisture forecasted so hoping and praying for a good week to get a lot done and a safe harvest season when everyone seems to be spreading themselves thin.
