Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Well now that we have had that stupid 3" of snow, it can go away for the next 2 months. We will be just fine with not getting any till January 1st. Chilly week here, with another chance for snow on Halloween. Highs only in the 40's.
Gareth, so sorry about your DGD. How old is she? Oh, I so miss my mini burning bush!!! I was tempted to dig it out before we moved out, but of course that is silly, since there is no place here to plant it. And, I would have violated the contract. I went by the house last week for my hair apt, and forgot to look at the bush. I was so upset when I thought of it later. Way to go on the pea soup recipe!!
Anngie, no not a George Foreman, it is oblong, it has the grill plate, or you can use a griddle plate. There is a pan underneath to hold 2 cups of water, and when you use it, there is a fan button you turn on so that while grilling, it takes away all the smoke. We used it last night for steak and it worked perfectly. This will be such a wonderful addition to our kitchen, as we like grilling, but with winter coming on, this will be so nice, and DH won't have to run up and down the stairs. It is a tad big, but since I cut down on wine drinking, I put my wine rack away, and put the grill there. I am going to the store to day, after the Y, and getting veggies to put on the grill with boneless pork chops tonight.
Marsha, oh poo!! My yahoo email, which is the email I use for WW, I just go in and delete everything, without looking at the actual email. I know I have gotten e's from them, but not read them. Oh well, will just have to wait till it actually comes out. I am one of those old people who don't do real good with WW change, in the beginning, then come around eventually. I know what you mean, about getting it under control, I am slowly getting back into that mind set. Good luck getting costumes together.
Carol, we do not go to that church anymore. We quit 3 years ago, when the pastor was such an idiot to us. But we are friends with a lot of the members, so when we run into them, or have them over, they fill us in on the latest baloney going on. We have said that if the pastor left we would most likely come back to the church. I guess the congregation has gotten the Bishop involved so maybe something will happen.
Robin, how was the author event?
Pinky, sounds like things are moving at a frantic pace for you right now. It wasn't a bad day here yesterday, but with our running, we did not see any activity with the corn picking farm machinery. I was surprised. Maybe the people doing it work at a job during the week, but with the snow predicted I thought we would see them try to at least get more done.
DB took us to lunch yesterday, and he seems to be doing very good. I was so happy to see that chemo last week did not get him down. Not much going on here, going to the Y then the grocery store. Have a nice day.

Yep like Karen said 3" of snow. Too early. Fortunately the roads are fine as they were too warm for the snow to stick.
I put chili in the crockpot this morning. DH doesn't like it that way - we find it too thin because the water doesn't evaporate - but I never got around to making it on Sunday so there it is. I'll take the lid off when I get home and let some of it boil away, hopefully that will work.
Otherwise not much going on. I think I'm going to send dd her bearpaws. I try to avoid sending her packages from home but she doesn't have any winter boots and she complained yesterday her ankels are cold. As a mother I couldn't let that comment go by without some kind of action, could I?

Guess I can't complain about our inch of snow since Karen and Marsha got more. More expected for Halloween here too. For those of you asking how old DGD is she's 15. Kinda surprised she's being referred to a pediatric cardiologist but guess she must still be decided to be young enough. I'll be anxious to hear if the cardiologist agrees with the ER Dr's diagnosis of supraventricular tachycardia. She has an appt tomorrow with him. DH heard from his cardiologist's office yesterday that after his ER trip the Dr wants him to have a stress test Nov 6 and then see the Dr on the 21st. Must not be too concerned if it's not until then. At least DH feels back to normal and is feeling good.
Almost finished with What Rose Forgot one I wouldn't recommend. It's kept my interest enough to see how it ends. Too unbelievable of a storyline.

Gareth, sorry to hear about DGD. I have no doubt the cardiologist will get to the bottom of it. Let us know!
Karen, what is the brand of indoor grill that you have? Something I’ll look into. Glad to hear DB is handling his treatments so well. And very nice of him to take you to lunch! Obviously he knows you’re the one that’s there for him.
Marsha, you’re a good mom! Any of us would do the same thing! Do you normally have cornbread with chili? I don’t but many people do.
My sister called last night to tell me she has a mild case of emphysema in one lung! We’re floored because she’s never smoked nor has she ever worked/lived with any chemicals. She has an appointment in January. If it’s not one thing it’s another.

Anngie - so sorry about your sister. Is emphysema curable or is it a chronic treatable condition? Mild is promising. Cornbread - good idea. I have a box of Famous Dave's cornbread mix I can make. Thanks for the suggestion.
Gareth - the cardiologist will surely find out what is going on with dgd. They don't like to hand over patients to adult doctors until 18. I think their bodies are different from ours in so many ways. Glad dh is feeling better. The stress test is probably just more information gathering.

Karen, how great you are finding things to do with that indoor grill. Do you roast veggies also? I love to do that. So nice that your DB took you to lunch. Glad he is feeling well from the chemo.
Gareth, somehow I was thinking that your DGD was younger. I hope all works out OK for her.
Marsha, I find that with a lot of things in the crockpot. Maybe DH can put it into a pot and boil out some of the liquid.
Anngie, you are right, either one thing or another. I have heard of people getting things sometimes that they really had no risk factors for.
I had a very busy day today, but broken up by a lovely lunch with 3 of my old high school friends. We somehow got on the subject of becoming doctors - 3 of us were really pretty similar academically back in HS - and I said that if we were 5 years younger we probably would have gone to medical school. Interesting that they all agreed with me. I had a delicious salad that came with grilled shrimp, berries, feta and almonds. Too bad it was a special, because I would get it as take out if I could. Not that I couldn't make it, but it was just so good.
On the way home I stopped for my 2nd shingles shot. So far, no reaction, but it has only been an hour.

Hi Friends---another crazy day. I haven't had to be in the field yet but running with one thing or another for DH or giving rides. I am fine with that but my mornings just get away from me getting everyone where they need to be or some things taken care of in the office before they get off and I have questions about something I need to take care of. Then get lunches packed for them and by then I have to catch up on some other things and before I know it is dark outside. I am glad we are finally getting harvest in full swing and we did actually finish our soybeans today so will just have the corn to take care of. Corn is not as sensitive as beans so it is all good. Our high today was 30 and it is suppose to get down to 17 degrees tonight---BBBRRRRR!!!! Sorry but I need to skip personals again but thought I would let you know what is going on around here and you will all do the happy dance for us that the soybeans are history other than the tillage of those fields which have a good start. I guess this post is all about me but I am thinking of all of you!!!!!
