Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Snowy morning here. Expecting 1"-3" of the nasty stuff. Temps to go along with it, in the 30's.
Gareth, yesterday afternoon we went by one of the walking trails out here, and saw a car parked on the side of the road, and looked down it. A couple was biking on it, and I said, what a great idea, as the trail is mostly in the woods, and it wasn't too bad out, that it would be a nice ride. I have to remember to go there, for a walk, if we do get a nice day occasionally, if we are lucky. Arthritis in your back? I have it pretty bad, have gotten the shots in it, in the past. It works for awhile. Heating pads work too, as I sit here right now with one on my upper back as that stupid pain is back. I think it is pulled muscles from strength training on Tuesday.
Marsha, your black scrubs can be used as a Med Tech. Back when I worked at the hospital lab, some of the tech's would wear the black ones to work. Do you have surgical gloves? The pink ones are the "in" ones to wear.
Carol, at least you are having rain, would really love that, compared to the snow we are getting so early. Will make for a very long winter. About the subject of asking if you are planning on having kids, whereas that is basically illegal to ask now, I have a story sort of like that. Back at the reference lab I worked at in the 80's, a young woman was pregnant, and when she was close to her due date, management had her sign a form stating she understood that when she was able to come back to work, she knew that here job would probably not be there. And it did happen to her. A month later I had to take 6 weeks off for a hysterectomy, and sure enough, the manager had a form for me to sign stating the same thing. I took it home and showed DH. He was livid! He, back then was a Union steward, so he knew the laws about that, but that is with a union shop. We were not union where I worked. I took the form back to work and refused to sign it. The manager put my initials on it. In 6 weeks I came back to work to my job, nothing said about that stupid form. We sure have come a long way since those early days.
Robin, we too have had our bedroom windows opened just recently. And that was with the furnace off. Kind of surprised, since these buildings are very well built for sound proofing and insulation. So I would not expect the lower's heating to travel up here. Congrats on getting to finally having a closing date for you mother's house!!
Pinky, that doctor that gave me the news about my lungs was fired from the hospital about 6 months after that. I think he may have gotten the boot because of his awful bedside manner, but that is just me. We do not pay for heat, it is included. I think it is funny, since the uppers are so warm, management probably does not have big bills for the heating. We are seeing that the farmer that is taking down the corn here has it going slow too. I think they must work somewhere else during the day. And there is corn fields here as far as the eye can see, so they still have a lot to do.
Anngie, yes, heat is included. The thing with emphysema is, what I was told by my lung doctor is since I had quit smoking, that would cease the progression of the disease. So your sister will have to find out how she got it. Maybe the lung doctor can help with that. I know every time that I have had to go to a lung doctor, the questions they ask seem strange, but there is a reason for them, such as have you traveled outside the country recently, have you been around birds lately? Those kind of questions. I will be praying for her.
Going to be a long day, as I was awake at 5 am with the pain in my upper back. Finally gave up and got up, so I could put the heating pad on it. This morning is DH bladder solution day. He should be able to get it, as I expect the antibiotic to have taken care of the infection.
Still reading The Matchmaker, and liking it a lot.
Have a nice day everyone. Happy Halloween.

OMG it is cold here this morning---as in 15 degrees cold, BBBRRRRR!!! At least the sky is blue and the sun is going to shine and thankfully we do not have the snow that Karen and Marsha have. Should make it up to 40 degrees today but the forecast is cold for the next week with 1 or 2 days of flurries or moisture at a low percent so hopefully we have some good harvest days ahead yet.
Karen--sounds like that Dr. failed bedside manners. Good Luck to your DH today---how has he been feeling?
It sounds like I may have to go to the field for awhile today so I need to get my move on. Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Halloween!!!

Pinky - it is cold here but not like that! That is January weather, not October. Too much snow here for this time of year IMHO.
We still didn't eat the chili. DH picked up a burrito from a place with free something on your birthday and he wanted to eat that so I made salad. So chili tonight.
We did finally get back to finishing paying the bills, but I have one that I couldn't get into the website at home so I need to do that today, plus the AAA and AARP which I think may have expired or will expire today. I'm meeting a former coworker for lunch so that will be fun, and hope to leave early to hand out candy.

The last I heard was some parts of the state had 6" of snow. Here we had just enough to get the ground white and make everything icy. Lots of accidents I'm hearing. It was 27º when I went to work. A little after noon and it's still only 29º It was cold walking across the parking lot at HyVee after work. Only "warming" into the 30's later.
Until all the tests come back so far it sounds like good news about DGD. The cardiologist thinks her racing and elevated heart rate is from a combination of too much caffeine and anxiety. She tends to be a worrier anyway and when she has too much caffeine and her heart starts racing she becomes anxious which exacerbates it. We'll know more after she wears a heart monitor for a couple of days. She's to totally eliminate caffeine which she has already since the ER which has helped already. She had been drinking a lot of Mt Dew and iced tea. Big relief so far anyway.
Karen, it's a combination of arthritis and osteoporosis in my back. Where your's is upper mine is lower back. It's somewhat better so slowly getting better.
Pinky, guess I'll quit whining about our cold after hearing yours!...brrr.

It is 40 degrees now. After the sun goes down, the temps will drop. Our church's preschool's trunk or treat starts at 6. Just the trick or treating is outdoors, the games and food will be inside. I imagine people will rush through getting the candy and then go indoors. Yes, this is cold for us in November. I would rather have rain than snow or ice.
One of my friends was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago. The doctor told her she should get all her affairs in order because nothing could be done. Well, she got a second opinion and had chemo. Her cancer has now returned, but she has had several good years. Yes, doctors should have to have a class on bedside manner in med school.
Karen, I hope your DH's procedure goes smoothly and all is okay.
My DH cut out coffee a few years ago after he had an episode of rapid heartbeat. Part of the problem was stress, too. Of course, he is much older than your DGD so he goes to the cardiologist regularly.
I went to Walmart this morning to get groceries. I was afraid it would be extra busy with people getting their costumes or candy at the last minute. It was surprisingly calm. I was at Dollar Tree a couple of days ago and they had their Christmas stuff out.

What a cloudy (misty) day we’re having today but it’s not snow! In fact it’s 72 degrees. Warm here for this time of year. By the weekend it’ll be more normal.
Karen, I hope DH procedure went well. How long does it take from beginning to end? I’ll bet there were many complaints about his bedside manner. My sister has another appointment in January. Maybe they will know then how and why she has something like this. They did give her an inhaler to use before she exercises, if needed.
Pinky, will you be trick or treating with your grandchildren?
Marsha, do you find AARP helpful? We’ve often gotten it in the mail but never joined. We’ve had AAA for years.
Gareth, good news on DGD! I’ll bet kids take in far more caffeine than they should, or that the parents are even aware of! We often think of only coffee but candy, soda, etc. have it as well.
Carol, I’d have a hard time cutting out coffee! Hope I never have to! Our Dollar Tree has had Christmas decorations, etc. out for quite a while too. In fact, last night I actually saw a Christmas commercial on TV!

I thought I posted this morning, but that must have been right when our power went out. There was a downed tree limb that cut off power. According to my burglar alarm power was restored at 10:23. We had a very busy day at work, I don't know why it has been so busy lately, but can't complain, and then home later than I wanted, but kept popping up to hand out candy to all the trick or treaters. Now time to have something for dinner and read!
Gareth, great news about DGD, I think a 15 year old might be young to be having a lot of caffeine, but that is easy to control.
Marsha, I hate when that happens with food I prepare, or buy. I bought something for DH over the weekend that he usually loves, and he is not in the mood for it.
Carol, surprised you are getting cool weather, but it is going to sweep right up to us tomorrow but we are only dropping into the 50's, so can't complain.
Anngie, we also have had a rainy day today, but warmer than I expected.
Pinky, I can't believe you are that cold up there already. What is going on with this weather! Does it ruin the corn that is not harvested?
I finished The Giver of Stars last night, really enjoyed it, and will start Grisham's The Guardian tonight.
