Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Saturday already! Is it me or did this week fly by? Since we here in Wisco expect cold temps and possible snow showers throughout the next 7 days, I am done mentioning our weather.
Carol thank you! Our DD2 said the church they stopped while trick or treating had hot chocolate along with the hot dogs too, and the kids loved it. I think that is so cool that churches do that! Trunk or treat was unheard of when my DD's were small. I sure wish it had been around. I agree about all the mail about medicare. Ridiculous.
Anngie, how does the great nephew feel about eating like that? As he is getting older, he will be exposed to all the different food, food he does not eat, so I wonder if he will challenge his parents. 75 kids!!! Holy cow, that is a lot of running to the door!! Lol, good thing we did not have that here, it would have killed DH and I, lol!!! I don't remember ever having to give up coffee for a mamo....
Robin, when the power goes out, does that wake your DH up, as his Cpap shuts off? I have given thought to drop AAA, as it seems there was just one time, in the resent past, maybe 2 or 3 years ago that I used the towing service, when DH jeep had an issue, and I was driving it, but DH insists we keep it. Of course that was when we lived in the old house, and more further out of town than now. But I am sure he would still insist. So I have to pick my battles. Lol, funny but I like the newspaper and magazine from AARP. I like looking on the back page, of the celebrities turning 50, 60, 70, 80. DH has that bladder solution every week till he has 6 done. It has been hard, as they won't do it if he has an infection, which has happened twice, so it is dragging on.
Every book that everyone here has mentioned, is on hold on Overdrive. I was so frustrated, last night, as I brought up every single book, and none was available.
Another night of having a charlie horse, this time in my other leg. (equal opportunity!). I don't remember from when we were all having babies....what does it mean when you keep having those...need to drink milk, or eat bananas? HELP!!
Going to the Y with my sore calf, maybe get some swimming in after the treadmill. Need to do dusting today, that has gotten away from me. Also need to figure out what is for dinner.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, we have the AARP Supplemental too, and seeing as it is through United Healthcare, which was our old private insurance, I am definitely keeping it. There are always good things to look at in the magazine, so I like that too. I now have a new game with budgeting, I am putting our SS into a different account, so have to figure out what I want to pay out of each. I think I have it basically worked out, but before I really have it worked out we will have more because at 70 DH will go to his higher amount, which really will be great.
It was cold enough here this morning to have to click the heat on. It was 37, but sunny and the wind has finally stopped. Lots of branches around, and apparently that is what knocked out the power. It has gotten a lot worse in recent years. I am wondering whether it is that the trees are getting that much older, all the trees that were planted in the 1950's, and even before, are getting really big, or whether something happened during Sandy to weaken the trees. I have a huge tree in my backyard that I have a feeling was there from when the house was built, which was in 1955. I am happy because it ended up giving us a bigger plot of land than most others.
They are moving the furniture out of DM's house this morning. I will go over and double check everything, they will supposedly sweep, but I left the vacuum cleaner over there just in case. The walk through is tomorrow. I am going to get a gift card for them from Best Buy because we know the dish washer really doesn't work well, and we feel guilty. I have been in touch with the buyer's lawyer, so have asked about whether they wanted to stick with the gardener for the rest of the season so they don't have to rake the leaves and do the final clean up. I tried to change the mail over, but it is impossible. The post office worker told me it can be done online, but to do that, I need a credit card belonging to my mother, which obviously we don't have any more. I just thought of one thing if I can find her Citibank ATM card, there is a small amount of money left in the account, something like $30, not worth worrying about. They are going to debit it for $1.50 to do the address change. If the mailing address on the card doesn't match, it doesn't work. I tried to do it with our office card, as we are the attorney's handling the estate, so I realized even my brother-in-law as executor can't do it. Very little comes there any more, I will pay the final electric and gas bills online, and the water bill at the closing. I will cancel the homeowner's once we close, I have to look back to see if I paid the full year yet, or have 1 payment to go, but either way we should get a refund from them. All these little things to think about.
Karen, I can give you some ideas from books I read a few years ago that should be available to download. I can't remember what type of books you like. I have read so many different types, I am sure I can figure something out.

Good luck with the post office. When my son moved to his own place, he filled out a change of address card. Well, they started sending both his and my mail to him. I had to go to the PO 3 times before they got it right. Each time I went I talked to a different person and they each said "I bet you checked the box for all mail to be forwarded, not just one person's." I would tell them, no, I didn't then they would get the original form and sure enough, just my son's name was on it. They said it would be corrected,, but as I said I had to go talk to them 3 times. It really made me mad that they automatically assumed it was my fault since we all know how efficient the PO is.
I like the AARP's magazines as well.
It's a beautiful sunny day out. The temps are in the 50s.
I have had problems with my left calf. It was hurting Thursday night after the Halloween party. I can't think of what I did to aggravate it. I took Advil and put ice on it and it was okay yesterday. I think sometimes low potassium is the problem.

Cold, blustery day in the 30's. It would've been nice to have had at least a few days of Fall before Winter set in! I cancelled AAA many years ago when when I called them when my car wouldn't start in sub zero temps in the middle of the night. I was told I'd have to call a friend since everyone was busy. I told her that's why I had AAA so I didn't have to bother my friends! Car side assistance is included in our car insurance which has proved to very reliable. At least they've never told me to call a friend for help!
Karen, I've always had trouble with leg and toe cramps. They've improved considerably since I started eating a banana every day for the potassium.
Robin, I'm sure you're relieved to have everything almost finished with your DM's house. I remember how glad I was to finally have everything done with my DM's
Carol, 50's would feel downright balmy to me about now.

Good Sunday morning. Something a bit different for our weather!! Tonight we can expect rain! Lol....same thing different day, but at least it is not snow! Guess that will come back on Wedn.
Robin, that is so nice that you can wait till 70 for DH SS. I was just thinking about Sandy the other day, when it was the anniversary of it. Are there still homes that need fixing there? Oh, I remember last year, going thru all that, with the move. I am so happy you were able to finally sell your mom's house. The 27th of this month is our anniversary date. Amazing how much went on this past year! I do have to say, I think of Tina every so often, and wish that whole drama would have turned out better. What with her being the hated brother in the family, we do not have anything to do with her. When we moved, I did the change of address online with the PO, and just recently we received an email saying our year with them putting a sticker on mail with the old address on, to re rout it is almost over. Wish they could stop all the junk mail, lol! I too read a variety of books, I guess it depends on the reading mood I am in. I do not like gory books, like murder mysteries, and I do not like books that go into detail sexual wise. The book I am reading right now is A place we knew well, by Susan Carol McCarthy, set in 1962, based around a family living in Fl, around the time right after the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Hope that helps. Thank you in advance for any help!!
Carol, wow, that Post Office really dropped the ball!!! We have not had any issues with forwarding our mail from our old address, which will expire in a few weeks, except for a couple of things, but that was minor. As Gareth mentioned yesterday, and you also, sounds like potassium is the culprit for cramping of the legs at night. Of course, I went to the grocery store yesterday, and forgot bananas!! Thank you for the advice.
Gareth, I too would have cancelled AAA after that issue!!! I wish my DH would let me cancel, I would in a minute! The way cars are built today, I never worry about a break down, plus the reason we got it in the first place, was for the motor home we no longer have, and because we lived further out of town and were on the highway everyday for work. As I mentioned to Carol, I went to the grocery store yesterday, and sure enough, forgot to buy bananas. I think I will be going again tomorrow, so I will make sure to get them. Thank you for the advice. Quick question: which new program will you be going with, when it is rolled out? Blue, green or purple? If you don't want to answer, that is fine.
Did the Y thing yesterday, then walked over a mile at the grocery store. Came home and made chili for dinner. I made it a tad spicier than normal, not hotter, just spicier, and we both thought it tasted very good. Washing sheets today, then watching the Packer game as one of the late games, plus the nascar race.
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Karen, the problem with changing the address is that my brother-in-law would have to sign the card, and if I do it online I have to use a credit card with her address to change it, they charge the card $1.50 just to prove that it is the person. I will just ask the people that if anything comes, they should just let me know and I can get it from them. When I see my DBIL I will have him sign the card and give it in. For some reason, I don't really know why, our county sends out a property tax relief check once a year, my DM's was there yesterday, so at least nothing important will come. I am in the grace period for the last homeowner's insurance payment, and will call the agency on Tuesday to cancel, so we should get a small refund, but they might get a cancellation notice.
There are still some houses that are struggling with Sandy damage, there are articles in the paper off and on, especially on the anniversary. There were a lot of people that didn't have proper insurance, or enough of it, so ran out of money to repair the damage.
It has turned a bit cold here, we might even dip below 32 one night, but can't complain. We had a nice dinner out last night. We were at the Tom Colicchio restaurant, he is Top Chef, and he was there. One of the other famous NYC chefs just opened a restaurant attached to the same mall, so I joked that he didn't want the other guy to be in his restaurant, and him not to be there. My DS & DDIL coincidentally were in the restaurant right next door celebrating her grandfather's 90th birthday, and her grandmother's birthday, so we stopped in to say hello as we were leaving. They were waiting to get served their dessert and coffee, so no interruption.
Karen, I will go through my books from my lists that are a few years old, so if anything hits me. Have you ever read The Language of Flowers? More likely that an older one will be available than a new title.

Wow, has it gotten cold! Only in the forties and windy.
Robin, did you mean you would need to pay for mail to be forwarded on to another address? I remember doing that twice but never having to pay for it. Interesting.
Gareth, what an unbelievable response you had gotten from AAA about calling a friend! Nothing to surprise me anymore! We’ve used it three times, I think. Once for our battery and twice to jump DH’s sister’s battery. Having it does give a sense of security - but not if you have to depend on a friend too!
Karen, to answer your question about my great-nephew: it’s his mother who demands he be brought up a vegan. Not his father (our nephew). I cannot even describe some of the things he eats. Most everything is tofu. And the first thing he asks when a food is put in front of him is “is it vegan”. This is not even considering his size - he’s small for his age and extremely pale in color. Enough said!
Hello to AWF - stay warm!

Anngie, not if you go to the post office. To do it online you have to give a credit card to prove that you are not forwarding someone else's mail.
