Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Light snow is expected any time now, with maybe 1"-2" possible, and the temp is a bone chilling 28.
Pinky, glad you were able to spend any kind of time with your DH yesterday. Yes, funny how he was able to pull that off, just the 2 of you out working the field!!! What a romantic guy! I read a financial report last night, about WW, talking about their stock ranking and all, but at the end of the story, they said WW is rolling out the new program this coming Monday. So we should be able to check it out then. All of the comments I have read on the boards here have been positive. There is one board dedicated to Points Plus, which is fine, I liked that one at the time, but do not have any of the materials anymore. I do think it is just easy to go with whatever program they are having at the time. Do you have a drain in your garage floor? My DH regretted not doing that, when he built the garage, back at the old house.
Marsha, the main organization that we get all those mailings from are disabled vets, and some mission. It is just once and awhile that I will send the vets maybe $10, to hopefully cover the costs of the labels. It is now getting to the point that we have enough mailing labels for as long as we live here, since most bill paying is done on line, so between our water bill and any birthday cards we will send out, we are good forever! I am surprised you walked the dog! I wonder if you will this morning as it is very chilly out! I am getting into the habit of going to the Y, there is no way I would walk in this chilly weather. Did you go to the quilt exhibit last night?
Gareth, love the picture of the cats!! So sorry about your father. October 25th is when I lost my mother, and March 3 for my father. My father had changed so much, with his dementia, that he was already lost to us. But my mother was a different story, with her it was uterine cancer, but her mind was sharp, so her's was a tragic loss for us. I have the Giver of Stars on hold in Overdrive, lol, they are saying I will get it in 6 months!!!
Carol, usually if we have rain in the cooler temps, it seems so much colder. I think the same thing, with my parents gone, that they did not see our children grown, and I know they would just love our grand kids. It is amazing, the work and skill that goes into quilt making. Way over my skill set!!
Anngie, your mom has not been gone too long, so it must be harder on you than your father's passing. Are you still tempted to call her on the phone, to chit chat, as I still have to rethink that, every so often.
Robin, the funny thing about the knee exercise is every time we think of doing it, we are busy, so we put it off, then I am getting into bed, with my sore knee, remembering that we forgot to do it!! Lol. 60's sound like heaven!!! We have been warned that the cold temps we have now are going to be normal for quite awhile. So I think those days of 50's, and 60's are gone till spring. I see the lady that lives across our parking lot, in the upper, has put out some kind of lit small decoration, looks like a tree. A tad early for me, but I guess people are decorating already.
As I mentioned earlier, from what I read last night from an article about WW, the new or jazzed up program is supposed to be rolled out this coming Monday. I have read on this message board, good things about it. I guess they rolled it out to Australia first. I have gone back to paper tracking, along with the app.
Snowing now, so with rush hour starting here, that will turn into a mess. You would think we live in Arkansas or somewhere like that, that never get snow, so the residents don't know how to drive in it. Now I am rethinking going to the Y. The people going to work do not need me out there, getting in their way.
Have a nice day everyone.

Just finished walking so I have few minutes to myself before getting on with my day. I was happy to see no snow when I got up though we weren't predicted to get much. Any snow though is too much! North of us where up to 5" was predicted. 20-30Âş below normal temps predicted through the middle of the month. Weatherman said it'll be more January like temps which is scary. What will January temps be like then?!
I meant to thank everyone yesterday for their gift suggestions for my coworkers. I should've said it's an inexpensive gift. One of my coworkers usually gives some kind of craft item she's made. I've given things like a Christmas ornament, candle etc. I really wish we hadn't ever started exchanging gifts. I rarely have any use for any item I've received as I'm sure is the same for them.
I refuse to send any money for any unsolicited item I get in the mail not even knowing just how legit some of them even are. I donate to places of my own choosing.
Have a good day everyone! Gotta get moving....

We didn't go to the quilt exhibit yesterday. I went online to check the price to get in and saw that the first Wednesday of the month they are open late and it is free in the evening so we are going tonight. I wish I would have checked that before I cancelled my cut and color that was supposed to be yesterday. I rescheduled for after I get back from AZ but it would have been nice to have a fresh haircut before leaving. I thought about dog walking this morning. It wasn't snowing yet but it was only 28 degrees. I decided no. As it turned out I couldn't even get Mitzi to go out in the yard to do her business; she took one look and went back to bed. It's going to be a long winter.
Gareth - I missed that you were looking for gift ideas. Is it a secret santa? I always hated when we had those things - you are right, I never had use for what I got. I had a bag of things in the basement at one point that I had been given but had no use for. How about a candle?
Karen - I think sometimes that people put their holiday decorations out early to get them set up before the snow, and perhaps your neighbor is thinking about the fact that the snow is already here this year.

Karen, 1-2 inches of snow in Texas would not be considered light. People would be getting all the bread and milk out of the grocery stores. 28 degrees is cold anywhere, I guess.
We get all those mailing labels and note pads, too. Some of them, I don't know why or how we got on the mailing list. I think some places sell their customer lists to other organizations. It does seem like a waste of money to send things to people who are not going to respond. I mean the postage alone would be a lot of money.
My mom died from uterine cancer, too. She had surgery and radiation and thought everything was fine. Three years later it returned and spread to her lungs. She had chemo, but it didn't help. My dad had Lewey Body dementia.
All the school district librarians and library aids would have a Christmas luncheon and we would do a gift exchange. It got where several (including me) would just get a gift card to a restaurant so we decided to just exchange gift cards. It was rather silly. We could have given each other a ten dollar bill. One year I got a gift certificate to a bakery in a different town. I never used it because it would be a special trip to that town. When I retired, the group gave me a gift certificate for a deluxe pedicure. I would think anyone who knew me at all would know a leg and foot massage is not something I would be comfortable with so I never used that either. We had school wide secret Santas, too. It was optional. When I did it, I got things I never used. I put a post-it with the person's name who gave it and then if I decided to re-gift I would know where I got it. DH would sometimes use them and we are in a group from church who would exchange little gifts. What's it called-white elephant gift exchange?
I've seen a couple of houses here with Thanksgiving decorations in their yards, mostly inflatable turkeys. I've never been one to decorate for each holiday.

It's another nice fall day here.
Karen, maybe the library will get more copies of Giver of Stars on Overdrive, and you will get it sooner. You really do need to take the time for yourself to do those exercises.
Marsha, I forgot when you are going to AZ again. I guess soon. Hope that quilt exhibit is nice, but for free, why not.
Our library has passes to some of the museums that we can borrow, but I always forget about that.
Gareth, I agree that often I get things I don't use, but once in a while I get a winner. I like the Secret Santa idea better because then instead of getting a lot of little gifts, you get a nicer one. One of the nicer gifts I have gotten was a sweater from Macy's. With the discount and being on sale, it must have been under the $20 or $25 limit. As far as gift cards go, our realtor gave me and my sister each $100 gift card to a restaurant. I might use it, but probably will use it with a friend, I might not get DH to go with me. My sister said I could use hers, she certainly isn't going to come out to Long Island to go for dinner, so kind of stupid of the woman to get that. I might donate it to a charity. The only other choice would be to invite out kids out, go there, and use both of them. I guess for your WW friends, a small box of candy wouldn't work.
It will be interesting to hear about the new WW program. I guess they had a lot of people who didn't like Freestyle. Some did very well on it, some not. This sounds like it is going to be a compromise.
I rarely get those pads and labels, maybe because I never donate to those things. My DM got a lot. She probably donated.

Karen, will anyone be able to check out the new program? I’m lifetime but not attending meetings - although that could be in my future.
Gareth, yes, I agree, donate only to those organizations that are of interest. And the ones that bother me the most are the ones who pay such large salaries to their top people! There are websites where a person can check to see how the money is used.
Carol, when I was still working we would have secret Santas as well. Then it was the same thing - getting things none of us wanted or had a use for. So at that point we decided to contact the county office for the aging, be “given” a person to buy for and take up a collection. I was usually the “buyer” and would buy whatever the agency said the person could use, size, etc. I truly enjoyed doing the shopping. Then we would get together on a lunch hour and wrap everything. We never knew who the person was so it all was delivered to the agency.
Robin, I have never donated to anything that comes in the mail and used to get plenty of note pads and labels. It has started to taper off, thankfully.
Hi Marsha & Pinky!
Has anyone read any of Jennifer Chiaverini’s Elm Creek Quilts novels? It’s a series and I think she’s up to 21. I’d like to read her new one but I’m wondering if it’s worth it as I haven’t read any of the others.

Late in the day I know but thought I would check in. We ended up with 2.5 - 3 inches of snow overnight so was not able to combine today but had plenty of office stuff and other things to take care of and of course they came to seal our garage floor and polish it. It looks so shiny and nice. Not sure if most of you check this late or in the morning for posts but I probably won't be on tomorrow so thought I would take a chance and post tonight yet. I always look at the previous days posts before I start the current day myself.
Karen--Interesting about the new WW program, I didn't get a chance to check today but plan to at some point. Yes we have a floor drain---yes it is a must for us. You sound like me that I forget to do stretches or exercises that my chiro suggests---I always think I am too busy and I know I need to take that time.
Gareth--my favorite inexpensive gift is a pkg. or two of seasonal napkins, maybe a couple of pieces of bite size candy. Sometimes I will add the matching paperplates to the napkins as well. I always figure that is something anyone can use and then you use it up and throw it away and do not have to find a place for it. I do not send money for those items they send me either as I figure I never asked for them.
Marsha---I love quilt shows!!! Can I fit into your suitcase and go to AZ with you---pretty please!!!! It is so wintery here already I just hate it.
Carol---I think re-gifting is just fine but agree you have to keep track of it.
Robin---I'm sure it is bittersweet but glad you can put the sale of your DM's house behind you.
Anngie---yes I have read about the first 6 or 7 books of the Elm Creek Series and really enjoyed them. I guess I have just gotten to many more books on my list and have not gotten back to the series but I do wish to.
As I said I probably won't make it on here tomorrow as it is our annual lefse making day with my sisters. Always a fun day!! And it it going to be so cold tomorrow morning, possibly the single digits. At 5 this afternoon it was only 17 degrees. They are saying it is about 20 degrees below average for us at this time of year. Should be in the low 40's again this weekend and then cold again---CRAZY!!!!
