Becky, I recently read an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association that women who averaged 4400 steps a day had lower mortality rates and that continued up to 7500 steps. So you could go even lower than where you currently are if you need to and it shouldn't effect you much. Have you tried to alternate ice and heat on your knees? Sorry you weren't able to make it to your appointment. What was wrong with your tire and did you get it fixed? How cold did you get this morning? We were below freezing and I'm not happy about it. Is this an active time for bears there like it is here, Kathy? The ones here are storing up to hibernate, so they are on a food search. Do your bears even hibernate? I agree that I would rather see them relocated that hunted. But how much land is there to give them the space they need. Maybe they could ship them up here, but we have seen an increase in the number of bears in recent years and it's dangerous for them as well. Here's a link to a segment from the local news this week on the efforts to keep bears, elk, etc., off the interstate in the mountains: Wildlife Crossings. There was also a guy staying at a motel in Gatlinburg that shot at a bear this week and got charged for discharging a firearm and a couple of other things. Sorry about UCF's loss last night. Will you be able to watch the FSU game today? I would like to see TN win their next 3 games, but I'm not hopeful. If they can win 2 and get bowl eligible, it will be better than it has been for a few years. Doesn't FSU end the season playing the Gators? That could be a tough one. Good luck with your ACA process. Linda, according to UHC, my tooth was experiencing "normal wear" and didn't require a crown. Odd that they consider a crack in the tooth that the hygienist could put in a pick and wiggle the tooth "normal". My dental plan is supposed to cover in or out of network and it says crowns are covered and they don't list any exceptions. According to the person who does the books at the dental office said they have never had a crown claim denied. I hope your Friday didn't have a furious end, Liz, and that you'll get some rest over the weekend. YIKES on the bridge. What are you going to do? Have you gotten any snow? I saw the tree arrive at Rockefeller Plaza this morning. Do you ever get that way to see it in its splendor? Chele, how cold did you get this morning? Did you and Iggy hit the road? Dale is at his race so I hope he's doing ok. I hope he ends up only doing 50K because I think that is sufficient. He has done that distance in the past and only failed to complete it once, which was probably about 5 years ago when he had an ankle issue. They had a pasta dinner for the athletes last night (which had a vegetarian option, but he said it wasn't that great) and he met 2 or 3 guys about his age who are also doing the race. So he's not the only "old dude" there. He told me he got me a shirt that says, "Everything hurts and I'm dying". Can't wait to wear that to the gym. Arya had me up before 5:30 and I'm not happy about it. I was looking forward to at least another hour of sleep, but she wouldn't settle back down. So, of course, she is now snoring on the couch and I'm not. I plan to get the Operation Christmas Child stuff ready to go a little later and watch a few football games. Happy Saturday, Chicks!

Linda, I love the cartoon. I'm with ya! Time change isn't the issue. She slept late several days this past week. She does this to me every time Dale is gone. Without him, she also missed their just about daily walk in the woods because I can't control her and stay upright. So when he's gone, she tends to be a PiTA. We took a long walk about 20 minutes ago and she wants to go back out. Won't be happening for a while.

Do not think Micki will get a second walk today ...my job in afternoon. The headache is not in the allergy area. Stomach issue not allergy either. Two friends stayed home sick yesterday, and two people at the museum were sneezing and coughing off in their offices. It is the time of year when snowbirds bring us new germs from other places! Staying in bed with Vicks and book.
Cold snap elsewhere looks nasty.Stay warm. 86 here.

Karen, this is the active season for our bears too. I read that the bears in southeast don't truly hibernate, but go into long periods of sleep. They may venture out if it gets warm, so our bears are probably a lot more likely to go out during the winter than yours are. There are some very forested areas in north FL that could probably handle more bears. I really think going to the bear proof trash cans would help get them out of the neighborhoods, but it seems like the state and counties don't want to spend the money on that.
Strange football week with UCF losing and FSU winning. We play Alabama State next week, so we actually have a decent chance to get 6 wins and go to a bowl. The last game will be against UF, so I'm very doubtful that we could pull a win off there. Stranger things have happened in that game though. The standoff between Xfinity and the ACC Network continues, so I had to listen to the game. Xfinity is dropping Starz in December, so I guess I'll be watching Outlander through Amazon Prime. They haven't lowered our bills with the cuts they've been making, so it's pretty frustrating. How many miles did Dale wind up doing? I agree 50K is enough!
Linda, hope you're feeling better soon.
Becky, I'm glad you're finally getting some nice weather. We had a lot of rain last night, but it's pretty today.
Waving to Liz and Chele. Hope you have a good Saturday.

Karen, it sounds like UHC is trying to wriggle out of their responsibility. Our dental insurance only pays 50% for crowns but I haven’t ever been denied. How did Dale do in his race? How far did he go? I hope he isn’t sore today. Did Arya let you sleep this morning, since Dale is back? Animals sure love their routine. Sorry to near about the lease purchaser flaking out on you. I hope the sellers market stays strong. The houses here are going like hot cakes. I forgot about Cera Ve. It is a lot more convenient to be able to get it at Walgreen. Did Michigan have a bi this week?
Liz, oh, no on the bridge work and the paycheck. I hope both are a simple fix. I am glad to hear Wally is doing better. For a healing person +9700 steps is a marathon. Your work environment would give anyone the blues. We don’t call it St. Crazy for nothing. Are you expecting snow this coming week? We may get some Monday night into Tuesday, but I am not freaking out about it yet. I live in the snow zone after all.
Linda, for someone who didn’t feel well, you sure rallied and got lots of things done. I hope you are feeling better now. I have picked up the worst germs from airplanes and movie theaters. Some people are not very hygienic and will sneeze and cough without even bothering to use a tissue or cover their mouths.
Kathy, are you, DS and DM recovering this weekend now that the extended family is gone? Of course the cable company would never reduce a bill. Ours just went up $10 without warning. They increased the fee for access to the networks and the basic cable fee. Iggy watched the LSU vs Alabama game while I puttered around the house. I see that OSU won.
Becky, how was the auction? Did you go to lunch? Did your knee behave? Glad you had good weather for it. I hope the pastor is feeling better for today’s service.
Iggy and I went to the Middle Eastern deli for pita bread and olive oil and sardines. Then we cleaned the leaves up in the yard. Then it was time to cook some red beans and watch football. Iggy is sneezing this morning so we probably won’t go anywhere. Have a good Sunday.

Good Morning Chicks,
Chele - nice that you were able to pick up the items at the Middle Eastern Deli. Hope Iggy isn't coming down with anything; lots of folks seem to be getting different bugs with all the weather changes and so many different exposures. Did some shopping yesterday and then some laps around the garden circle in our court without the cane. Was a bit sore this morning so it may be the walking without the cane and pushing the hip to function more. We may get some flurries according to the weather guessers but I will wait to see what happens. It's a bit overcast and chilly here today but was actually fairly cold yesterday with temps barely above 40 all day.
Linda - you surely did get an awful lot done for someone who wasn't feeling so great! DH usually puts the lights up after Thanksgiving around the garage door and I've made it easier by purchasing the laser lights that he uses for the front and back. How are you feeling today? The pups are still not completely used to being on the new time but they are improving; dinner time still messes with them.
Kathy - it must be bear season all over as there have been a number of sightings to the west of us and a bit further north. With all the construction, we're not seeing as many critters except for squirrels around lately. I will probably try to get back to work next week; not positive but I think that's what I'll end up doing. How was your day yesterday?
Becky - how was the cattle auction? So sorry you didn't make it to your appointment. How are the knees doing? Glad to hear that the weather is much improved for now.
Karen - it does seem odd that they would deny the crown completely. Flipping insurance is a nightmare in general I think. I have lousy teeth and it's been that way since I was a child. The dentist had recommended me getting dentures a few years ago but I am holding onto my own teeth as long as I can. Did you get to sleep in a bit this morning? How did Dale do with his race? How are you feeling today? I am just feeing pi^^y and trying to get some things done here and there. Just time for me to suck it up buttercup and get my head into going back to St. Crazy and all its insanity. Since I am all out of benefit time and Christmas is on a Wed. this year; I'm not sure what will happen with the family. How are you feeling? Did the upper respiratory thing cease finally?
I hope you all have a safe, snuggly and good day today chicks! Ciao for now~

Becky, were the calves you took to auction the ones born just a few months ago? How are the knees and were they any better or worse at the auction? I hope you have anothr beautiful day. Are you expecting any rain over the next couple of day?
I caught the end of the FSU game, Kathy. I'm sure it was even more of a nailbiter listening to it. I would love to see them beat the Gators. I guess you saw that TN beat KY, pretty much by keeping them out of the end zone on 1st and goal in the last minute of the game. KY didn't even score in the 2nd half. App State beat SC in Columbia. That was very satisfying. I hope Clemson's big win will get them back up to #2 or 3 in the polls this week. I hate that you're losing STARZ. Isn't it strange that our bills never decrease even when our programming does? At least you have Prime. Have you heard when the new season of Outlander starts? Dale did the 50K. His ankles were giving him problems so he wisely did not continue on to do the 50 miler. Sometimes he can be sensible. I agree on the need for bear proof trash cans. I wonder when your trash collector is going to get smart. I wonder if you and all your neighbors started barraging them with complaints about needing them if they would relent and do the right thing.
Linda, I agree with Chele that for someone who wasn't feeling well yesterday, you got a lot accomplished. I wonder if the bank was so crazy because a lot of people think the same way you do about ATMs. We didn't even get an ATM card when we switched banks. The only time I used the previous one was to access my account when I needed to make a deposit or withdrawal inside the bank. How was the stronganoff?
I agree with you on the dental insurance, Chele. They love to collect those premiums but don't want to give up any more than they can get away with. Dale got home a little while ago and says he is stiff but not too sore. The 2 hour trip home probably didn't help. We're hoping this will be a better time on the other house. I looked on Zillow and Realtor.com and they don't have many houses in that area in the price range of ours and it looks like values have gone up a bit since we were trying to sell a couple of years ago. I just hope our RE dude has potentials in waiting and we can sell it fast and be rid of it. Michigan did have a bye week. I hope Iggy isn't coming down with something. I watched part of the LSU-Bama game and was pleased with the result. What did you have with your red beans?
Liz, congrats on the laps yesterday, but I hope you aren't going to pay for all those steps. I think we barely made it to 50 yesterday, so we were about where you were. We may get a dusting or up to 2 inches Monday night into Tuesday, depending upon whose weather map I look at. In the words of Game of Thrones, "Winter is coming!" Insurance is definitely a business and is out to make money, not to take care of us. I had to have a lot of fillings when I was a kid, but my teeth are fairly strong overall. I have one niece and one nephew in their 30s with none of their own teeth. It's amazing what they can do with implants these days, but holding on to your natural ones for as long as possible is a good plan. I'm a little tired today but the respiratory stuff seems just about gone and the knees are doing too badly. And, yes, there is a very good reason we call it "St. Crazy". I can't even imagine the angst I would have anticipating going back. What do you think, based on last Wednesday, how long it will be before you will be able to safely go back to a 5-day a week commute? I wish you could find something less insane and closer to home. Do you have any kind of short term disability you could tap into if needed? I forgot Christmas is on a Wednesday this year. Fortunately, we have no place to go. Dale did send out a couple of resumes on part time gigs, so he could be working anyway.
Dale got home about an hour ago and all his stuff is either in the washer or in the studio because he doesn't trust himself on the stairs right now. We have a full load of workout clothes washing. I spent part of the morning getting my winter things accessible, especially since they say we may get into the teens for a couple of days this week. Last month we were dealing with record highs and this month we are dealing with record lows. But climate change is a myth. RIGHT!!

Liz, I hope you'll be able to do mostly telecommuting for a while. That commute is brutal, especially when you're still recovering. I had a quiet day yesterday and mostly just watched some football and did some chores. I always hated it when a major holiday fell on a Wednesday since it's harder to take a long weekend. Karen, the FSU game was a bit more exciting than I would've liked, but the outcome was good. Someone noted that the interim coach has a better road record than Taggart did, which is kind of sad. I think Outlander starts again in February. I don't think Xfinity has any plans to bring STARZ back. I'm glad Dale "only" did the 50K! A lot of the neighbors seem clueless on the bears and trash problems, so I'm not holding my breath for improvements on the situation any time soon. You're right about insurance being all about making money, so that's why they deny whenever possible. I hope it's not too hard to get your claim through. October was our hottest on record, so I'm wondering what our winter will be like. We're in for a chilly day on Wednesday which will be a nice change. Becky, hope the cattle auction went well. Linda, we finally had a quiet morning here with no ACs running. It was a perfect 72 degrees inside, but it's close to 80 outside now. We're expecting one day next week with a high of 67, so that's winter for us. Glad you're feeling a bit better.
Chele, it's definitely been a quieter weekend than the last one. It is a relief to have that over with and know that everything went well. Poor Maryland! OSU showed them on mercy. The LSU vs Alabama game was a good one. I'm tired of Alabama always being up there, so I was glad to see LSU win. Hope Iggy isn't coming down with something.

Still too warm here until Wed. Got tonight's supper made...baked spaghetti, which is really sort of lasagne with 2 spaghetti layers. I use ricotta instead of cottage cheese and you can easily omit the meat. Recipe is for 8-10, but half gives you decent amount for four-5. They say it freezes. www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/favorite-baked-spaghetti/print/

Chele The calves went for a fair price. The diner is in the auction barn so we always eat there. It was almost 2:00 before we got out of there and my knees did not do well.Sounds like you and Iggy enjoyed your day yesterday. The preacher said he felt better. He just had the junk that irritates his throat left.
Liz The knees aren't doing well.I'm glad the appointment is Wednesday. We just had to wait longer than expected at the auction since it took longer than expected to sell the calves.Maybe you should still use the cane to walk around the circle?I have backed way off my step goal.
Karen They were 3 of the calves born 8 months ago.My knees were much worse at the auction. They were hurting so bad at one point I just started crying and I never do that.I guess it was just having to sit so long with a few breaks I took to stretch my legs.We may get rain tomorrow night when the front comes in.It's 74 degrees right now with sun. It's supposed to get close to 70 tomorrow I think before the bottom falls out and we are expecting a low of 30 Tuesday morning. This front should stay around a few days.I'm glad Dale listened to his ankles and stuck to the 50K race...50 miles would be too much.
Kathy Have you decided which WW plan you are going to try?I think I'm sticking with FS for a week or so and then may try SP(green plan). The app updates tomorrow.

Becky, I think I'm going to give the Purple plan a try and see how that works for me. I think having the 3 options is one of their best ideas in a long time. I may switch to SP on weekends when I know my eating doesn't fit as well with the Purple list. My app was out of date, so I updated it today and it should be ready for the update tomorrow. I hate to hear that your knees were hurting that bad and hope they can help you out at the appointment on Wednesday.
