Week 1 Day 6 Find a diet coach
"Few people who have struggled with dieting can lose weight and sustain weight loss without help and encouragement from another person."
Is this true for you? What have you learned about the need for having support and encouragement?

Where its easier for me to be OP when my partner is from a practical standpoint, it really does just come down to me and my choices. The best form of support and encouragement I've gotten on my journey, has been from the boards. I seem to get what I need right here from the group and others throughout the larger board structure. This is a good time to say thanks again to all of you.

I don't have a personal diet coach but I've made a commitment to myself to go to a WW meeting each and every week this time, no matter what! I have been unable to attend my center's monthly meetings specifically for lifetime members, so I just go to regular meetings. They've shifted focus a bit so I suppose I'm hearing new messages from them, because I've been going to them off and on since the 70’s. You'd think I could write my own book and do it on my own, but I seem to be constitutionally incapable of doing this on my own. I've always thought that WW was the most sensible way to diet, no matter what they were offering that year, but maintaining has always been my bugaboo. It's too easy to get on that slippery slope that ends in weight gain.

My DH is very supportive but weight has never been an issue for him so he doesn't always "get" my frustrations. I enjoy WW meetings and think they provide good support, esp. for new members. Maintenance issues are different and my WW center doesn't offer special classes for us. Their pat answer is "add 6 SP and keep doing what you've been doing". That really doesn't hit the mark on how to maintain. Reading the Beck book and doing the reviews has taught me a lot about maintenance and these message boards have provided me with so much inspiration and support.

Hello, friends! I'm back from my vacation. Yesterday DH finished 8 loads of laundry while I took my pre-prepared menu plan and grocery list to the store and re-stocked on fruits, veggies, milk, yogurt, and other essentials. I haven't dared to get on the scales yet. I'll save that surprise for my WW meeting on Wednesday morning.
Right now I'm feeling very good about my trip. Since it was our 7th or 8th cruise, the novelty of the buffet has worn off. The excitement of the bar boys bringing drinks at every turn has faded. The scrumptiousness of the main dining room has waned. I was able to pay more attention to what I was eating and how I was feeling about it. I found myself wondering why I was continuing to push something into my mouth that was only "meh." I did notice that they were serving small to moderate sized portions of everything instead of the ginormous portions you get in restaurants at home. With smaller portions, you felt better about sampling many different things without wasting food. If I had to complain, I would say that there were too many plush, deluxe, special meals with lots of sauces and gravies and special seasonings. Both of us found ourselves yearning for something plainer and less exotic. Is this the way a THIN PERSON cruises? (It's kind of hard to know. There weren't very many Thin Persons on this cruise to emulate!)
I'll spend some time now reading up on the posts and catching up to where we are with our Beck review. Be back later.

Just realized I haven't post yet: You all are my diet coaches along with my WW leader and the topics at my meeting.
Janet: I can't do it on my own either and the stats they give for people who regain their weight after losing means that most people can't do it on their own. This is my third time and when I looked back I realized that I had walked away from meetings the other two times when the going got rough. This time I vowed to keep going and am blessed that we have an excellent leader it really makes a difference. I think WW has really spruced up their meeting topics lately.
Carol Ann: So glad to have you and your "thin person" talk back. We missed you.
Pat: You are not behind jump in right where we are. You can go over what you missed when the review is over.

diet coach, schmiet coach! Who needs those when there's this group?! Ditto Judy, you guys are my 'WLJ' coaches (I hate the word diet, it's so antithetical to long term behavior change). I have learned a ton from this group, as well as. My ever-shrinking Wendie Plan group (thank you Tammy)!

So...challenges are already presenting themselves to me during my outbid journey. On domestic leg of travel and they passed out snacks before we even took off. I had gotten up early and made myself my usual oP breakfast so I declined snacks. I asked myself if I was hungry and I was not...go me! I did not eat most of the lunch meal, only about 1/2 cup of rice, but it had coconut in it so I'm calling it a cup of rice so I cover those points as I don't know what sort of coconut was used. Cabbage salad had some oil in it but not too bad, and I had one small dessert...it was a lemon meringue thingy with coconut on top. No, I did not need it but I ate it. However, since the meal wasn't veg and I didn't eat the main dish they gave me a plate with a strawberry - yes, 1, I guess strawberries are in high demand? a small cluster of grapes, and two pieces of cheese that were about 1 serving in total. BUT...there was another dessert on this plat and I did NOT eat it because that would have been me not thinking straight. So I passed on snacks and only ate 1 small dessert and no main dish. NSV?

surfgirl I think you're making good choices. That's what life is all about, isn't it? You surveyed the meal presented and picked what would be the best choices possible. I would encourage drinking lots of water because air travel dehydrates and there may be lots of sodium in the meal. But, overall, you did great! Safe travels!
