Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. We never did get those snow showers yesterday, yay! Just a cloudy day, as today will be, too. High of 40. Tomorrow is going to be miserable, with close to 1" of rain.
Pinky, hello!! I am sorry you are so busy. Refresh my memory, are you having thanksgiving at your house?
Marsha, I was tempted to take a walk yesterday, but chickened out, as it seems the cold air and my lungs do not play well together, good for you, getting out there!! I am kind of confused, I thought you are vegan? But you mentioned using hamburger to make a meatloaf??
Gareth, sounds like your day yesterday was just like Pinky's! I get tired of the same old meatloaf recipe, and when I discovered the Mexican Meatloaf recipe from WW years ago, I fell in love with it. But! DH does not like it. He likes the old way. So I rarely make meatloaf.
Carol, glad your earache is gone. Those are as bad as toothaches. Our friend knows she has to go and be with DH, she just can't leave all her things. And it sounds like she does not want to leave the job to her kids. Just so frustrating.
Robin, first of all, thank you for your tip, about my laptop, on FB last night. It does work now, but I see the battery is going down fast. Will have to get another one. DH and I are real fuzzy as to what part of the retirement community our elderly friend is in, could be an apartment, (but he can not be left alone), assisted living, or nursing home. On December 2 he will be moved to a 2 bedroom apartment, that are opening up on the 1st, so his DW can join him. So until we can get over there and visit him we do not know too much. Are you having Thanksgiving at your house? I think you mentioned you are not.
DH last bladder treatment is this morning. Tomorrow he gets his stitches out of his scalp. Then hopefully he can rest up for his back surgery the beginning of January. It came out that DD2 is having surgery the first week of December, for all of her illnesses she has been having. (female surgery). Then DD1 bariatric sugery will be scheduled for around christmas, then DH will be in January. Lol, last year it was me getting ready for knee surgery in January.
Speaking of knees, yesterday we brought all the totes up of decorations, and at one point I needed to get down to dust a lower shelf of one of our end tables, so I went down on my knees (first time kneeling on the new knees). Was not a good idea for the bad knee, I suffered the rest of the day and night. We did get the wreath hung on the deck railing. Now my mission is to get to Stein's to see if I can find anything else to go out there with the wreath.
DH is driving me mad with how he goes thru fitted sheets. Almost a brand new set of sheets, he ripped holes in the fitted sheet. The next one, as I paid more money to get a very good set, is now all pilled. I sat yesterday with the fitted sheet and a razor, shaving off all those pills. I see when I shut his door this morning, he was laying on top of his bedding, with just a comforter covering him. So the shaving of the sheet must not have worked.
Have a great day everyone.

Karen, yesterday ended up being a nice day here after the foggy start. Low 50's. Tonight into tomorrow is when we get rain and from the sound of it a lot. That's ok as long as it isn't snow.
Robin, thanks for the meatloaf recipe! Do you use fresh or dried breadcrumbs? I've always used oatmeal in mine.
Running really short of time. Gotta get ready for work...

We woke up to 2” of snow yesterday but actually not that cold. I think I’m done with winter already! The roads are fine but the ground is still covered. Thursday is supposed to be near 50 degrees so it might be gone by the weekend.
Karen, see you’re getting your RN by immersion!! Are both girls ready and anxious? I’ll bet once that bad knee bends more it should become easier - hopefully? I have the SAME problem on DH’s side with the pilling of the fitted sheet! I thought I was the only one! lol. Eventually it wears and tears.
Gareth, now I want to make meatloaf! I bought the ingredients yesterday and will make it today or tomorrow. I think that makes three of us!
Robin, thanks for the recipe! The same author of Tender Land wrote Ordinary Grace which looks good. Have you read it? Firings are hard for everyone involved. At one point in my working career I worked in HR. Not easy sometimes. Of course, now you’ll need to go through the interview process to find a paralegal.
Carol, I’ve heard of (and witnessed) so many horror stories of employees who should have been fired long ago and weren’t. Have never quite understood why.
Hi Pinky!

I dog walked again this morning. It was 35 so a little bit better than yesterday and I didn't feel cold - in fact by the time I got home I had unzipped my jacket. I'll try to keep this up until it gets bad outside. Which according to Karen may be tomorrow!
Karen - I keep kosher so when I am out I eat vegetarian or fish. At home I cook with kosher meat. I enjoy a vegetarian diet when possible and I like to experiment with vegetarian recipes, although I don't do tofu at home and I do use dairy. Maybe your friend needs time to work through all of her treasures on her own for a while, kind of a Marie Kondo approach to saying goodbye to her things. Wow your family can't catch a break on the surgeries. Glad dh is winding up his current procedures.
Anngie - I didn't end up making meatloaf last night. I made frozen beer battered cod filets that I buy at Costco. Tonight we are having leftover butternut squash lasagna, then I will freeze the rest of that. Maybe the meatloaf will be Thursday.
We have a manager here who has a knack for hiring people then just letting them sit there instead of firing them. We had a temp here that we paid for probably the better part of a year in his department while she wrote procedures that he never shared with anyone. Eventually the Boss asked her to do a project for him, which she did, then the manager told the boss she wasn't his employee, she worked for Boss. She didn't stay around long after that. She was a good worker we just didn't really have anything for her to do. We wasted thousands of dollars paying her because he said he needed someone else to help him but he never shared any of her work product.

Robin, I use oatmeal in my meatloaf like Gareth, mainly because that's what my mom used. Sometimes I use 1/2 ground beef and 1/2 pork sausage. I'm glad meatloaf was mentioned because we found out that DS and DDIL are coming the Friday after Thanksgiving. DS really likes meatloaf and DDIL is trying to be gluten and dairy free and that recipe can be adapted.
Karen, wow there is really a lot going on with your family medical-wise. I imagine you will be glad when it is all done. I hope all goes well. If your friend can't be alone, how can he be in assisted living?
I'm trying to get organized for Thanksgiving. Last year on Thanksgiving I discovered I didn't have any sage. DH and DSIL drove all over town looking for some. They finally found some because someone had put it with another spice. We wondered if someone hid it in case they needed to come back for it. I'm going to do the majority of my grocery shopping this week and only get things that need to be fresh next week. Schools are out for the whole week so everything will be busy.
It's been in the low 70s the last couple of days, but is supposed to cool down Thursday night.
The principal at the school where I worked fired an aid six days before school was out for the summer. I never did hear why, but I told someone who was retired and who had worked with her and she said good, she should have been fired years before. One thing was that she would regularly fall asleep in class and she was late almost every day.

Karen, boy are you going to have a busy 2 months. Hope everything works out with all the surgeries.
Had another stressful moment here, DH was in court, needed a document sent over that we couldn't locate. DS and I finally tracked it down. I narrowed down the timeline, then DS & I went through emails and found where it was emailed to us. I must have seen it in my original search, but it was in a format I could not open on my computer, but DS did. Then of course our secretary got a call where the person wanted to speak to the attorney that was fired. She didn't know what to do, the call was from someone I know, but DH will have to end up saying something to her about it. We have to figure out a plan. The person called back and made and appointment with either DS or DH, so it all worked out.
I use regular Progresso breadcrumbs usually, although for Passover I use matzoh meal, so you can really use anything. I know people use oatmeal, and I used it once, but not sure to me it was a big difference. If I wanted to do gluten free, I would just use gluten free matzoh meal that I keep around for the year in case I need it for anything because of DDIL#2.
Anngie, I have to look through my lists to see if I read Ordinary Grace, however even though I think I might have, even the summary doesn't sound familiar.
Running short of time, nothing on the agenda tonight though. I am going to hold off on planning anything because DH has been in court all day, and just might not be in the mood for much, and of course I have left over meatloaf.

I just had to check, Amazon even keeps track of things I have borrowed from the library, and I track them when I read them in Pinterest. I apparently did read Ordinary Grace in 2017. I think I kind of remember it, but it wasn't earth shattering enough to make an impact. I think it was once of those that I thought moved too slowly.

We were to a funeral this morning of an older dear friend. I don't think I had mentioned anything about this previously. DH was a pallbearer so we had to be there a little bit early and of course our drive to the church was about 45 minutes so didn't get a chance to get on this morning. A beautiful service for him and of course we were to the committal service at the cemetery and back to the church for lunch and a time of visiting with the family. This has been hard on my DH. He was 86 years old and just such a wonderful man to everyone and a mentor to my DH. He has farmed since he was 18 years old so has seen a lot of changes in his life. Just this summer he and DH went golfing and the first part of October he was diagnosed with cancer and has been in the hospital since other than being moved to a hospice facility several weeks ago. Visited him many times in the past 6 weeks and still always had a positive attitude.
Karen---OMG---I sure hope once the January surgery is done your can put surgeries behind you for a long long time. Glad that things are winding down with your DH's current issues. Yes I always host DH's family here and of course our kids and family for Thanksgiving and will host it as long as DMIL is living/able to come. I really enjoy the day with all of them and of course DH's brother still continues to hang in there with his cancer so each year we are thankful for another year with him.
Gareth----I use fresh breadcrumbs in my meatloaf recipe.
Anngie---HI!!! Yikes on that snow, hope it is all gone soon.
Marsha---that stinks on wasting all those dollars for her doing nothing and then doesn't really build her confidence or feel good about her job situation either.
Carol---70 degrees sounds wonderful!!!!!
Robin--guessing you are going to be glad when this week is done work wise. Time to move on to better days.
It is 50 degrees here and has been a beautiful day up until about 30 minutes ago. It has clouded up and very dreary looking, chance of an inch or less of rain tonight. Harvest will not be completed yet with different obstacles the last 2 days so please please let us get 1-2 more good days!!!

Pinky, sorry you had such a sad day today. It is amazing sometimes how fast people go when they discover cancer.
I also realized this morning that the cause of the stomach problems I have been having the past few months could be from the Fosamax I am taking. I was able to message my doctor through their web portal, and she answered that it could definitely be that, so I should stop taking it and see if I feel better in a few weeks. If so, then she will give me something else. Good thing that I only have 1 pill left, so I don't feel like I have wasted my money. It is something I take once a week. Almost all of the side effects listed are stomach related.
My cleaning woman was here today, so the house looks great. I am waiting to see what DH wants for dinner when he gets home, if he really wants anything. I don't feel like eating more than eggs or maybe some noodles with butter.
