Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Quiet weather expected today.
Marsha, I do not have a redcard...I don't know what that is. I am the same way on the phone, hate it! I think my hate of the phone comes from the last job I held at the hospital was the receptionist/data entry person for the dept of the lab I worked in, and I was responsible for answering the phone, with the rule being answering by the 2nd ring. So I can really relate.
Pinky, love how you are the parts runner!!! Am jealous how you have all that beef!!! I am hoping, with the start of gun deer hunting this morning, my DH gets a deer. Sure could use that venison in the freezer!!!
Gareth, we are a bit chillier here too. Yesterday was very nice, with the sun, it was actually warm in the car, driving around. Speaking of laundry, I am getting so sick of it....everyday I have at least one load to do. I tried to get it into DH head that he does not have to put clothes in the wash that he just wore to run to the store, but he now has that excuse that he brushed up against his jeep or a car in the lot and it the vehicle was dirty. We already have the look on the vehicles that we get in the winter, from salt and brine.
Robin, glad to hear you are ok now. When do the turkey's have to be done and at their destination? I tried the turkey in the sink filled with water once and it was a pain! You had to keep turning it, and adding cold water. From what I remember, it took all day. Good luck with it.
Hi Anngie, Hi Carol!!!
Took my DD2 to Walmart yesterday, as she is not feeling up to driving, and it wasn't as crowded that I had thought it would be, on a Friday, and the day before deer hunting. We had fun, and I was able to buy DGD3 a cute outfit, with DD advise. DGD is very picky, about the material, and she will not wear skirts or dresses (which of course I had found a beautiful long white cardigan sweater and legging set)
DH took the xmas tree out of the box last night, and has it set up. Today I will spend forming it. I am planning on that taking a lot of time today, so since I am going to the Y this morning and a run to the grocery store, most likely the decorating of the tree will be tomorrow. I truly love this tree, it is flocked, but not totally, there is also green. It is prelit, but also with round ball lights. Just disappointed that a remote control for the lights did not come with it.
Have a great Saturday everyone!

Stopping by quick before going to work.
Karen, I'll answer for Marsha since she's not here on the weekends. The red card is Target's credit card. I don't have it but if I remember right using it gives you a 5% discount. Maybe some other benefit too.

Our DS called Thursday evening to tell us DDIL had fallen and was in the ER. We thought at first he meant she had tripped or something, but it was that she just fell while standing and couldn't talk. Of course, our first thought was she had a stroke, but they determined it wasn't that or heart trouble, but that she needed to see a neurologist. For some reason there wasn't one available in their town of 100,000 so they sent her by ambulance to Ft. Worth. I'm not sure what the hold up was, but they didn't even leave for Ft. Worth until 4 a.m. She had been feeling better in the ER, but after they got to the Ft. Worth hospital, she fell again while trying to walk to the bathroom with the help of a nurse. DS asked if we could come down which, of course, we did. It's hard to explain, but she couldn't talk in that it took time to get the word out. It wasn't that she didn't know the word, they just didn't come out. Anyway, they took her for a MRI and an EEG which took for over 2 hours. After she came back and rested and finally got something to eat, she was feeling better and last night was sounding normal. This morning and as the day went on, she sounded like her old self and she could get up and go to the bathroom though she had to have someone with her in case of a fall. The neurologist finally came in late this afternoon and said the scans and tests were good so it was nothing neurological. Of course, we don't know what it is. I think they are running some blood tests and perhaps, though we really hope not, a spinal tap. We spent the night there and got home tonight about 9 o'clock. It was really scary and frustrating because we spent so much time just waiting. There were a couple of PAs we saw and then the neurologist didn't like what the hospitalist said and was going to have to get with him. They are hoping she can go home tomorrow, but honestly, I don't think she will be able to. DH said he can take off work and we can go to them again if they need help again. Friday evening they were both just so tired. It is tiring for everyone to sit and wait. Anyway, that is what has been going on with me.

Good morning. Going to be a boring day, weather wise, but all the weather guys are looking toward mid week, to what could be a rain storm or a good snow storm, I guess they can't call it yet.
Gareth, I had a feeling it was a Target credit card. The only credit card we have is my Kohl's card. And I have been reading bad news about Kohl's, with the stock market, so I hope they are not looking at closing. I love Kohl's and their sales.
Carol, so sorry about your DDIL!!! And of course Mom and Dad are right there, which means you are all worn out!!! Believe me, you are preaching to the choir, as to what YOU have been thru!!! I pray they find out what is wrong with her, before they send her home.
Geez am I sore!! I guess re forming a 7.5' christmas tree is harder on me than I thought it would be!! That took most of my afternoon yesterday. At least I was able to make a pot of the 8 can soup, (which was actually 9 cans, since I added a can of black beans). So that was dinner, which DH was happy about, when he came home from hunting. He did not see 1 darn deer.
Packers play tonight...yes, a night game! Grrr!!! This game has me worried, and it is a big one, in regards as to what it could mean for the playoffs. So I know DH will be nervous, watching it.
Still reading Early Warning, by Jane Smiley. It is book 2 of a trilogy. The first one is Some Luck. To me they are books to read if you do not have anything else to read. I have so many books on hold on Overdrive, and all of them are at the least very many weeks out before I get one of them.
Have a nice Sunday everyone, see you all tomorrow. (The start of Thanksgiving week...tomorrow will be time to take the birds out of the freezer!!)

I am happy to announce that HARVEST 2019 is in the books-----Hooray!!!!!! This year in addition to being thankful for family and friends I am as thankful as ever that this crop season is done and behind us. They have a little tillage work left in the last 2 fields but that is minor compared to just getting the crop harvested. We had a beautiful day again yesterday and up to 50 degrees with the sun shining and still fairly warm today but cloudy and dreary. Gearing up for the snowy forecast starting Monday night or early Tuesday and chances of snow for the rest of the week plus colder temps. I guess winter will probably make its appearance now and I don't like it but at least we are done with harvest!!
Carol----so sorry to read about your DDIL's sudden health issue. Glad she is doing better but praying for the doctors wisdom in figuring out what happened or is going on. Sounds so scary and praying for all to go well for her and all of you.
Karen---yes with the Redcard there are different perks when you use it, of course it can only be used at Target. Yes you get a 5% discount as Marsha said on your total purchases each time and another perk that I remember is you get a longer time frame to return an item plus I think you do not need your sales receipt when you have used the redcard. I do believe there are a couple of other perks as well but do not remember off the top of my head. They always mention that you can immediately turn around and pay off your redcard balance as well if you choose to so no worries of interest being charged if you forget. I have one but seem to always forget to use it or have it with. Darn that your DH did not see any deer. They are in abundance here. The guys did go out yesterday morning but didn't shoot as they are waiting for the right one. They have been watching the bucks all year and each know which one they want. Of course, the trick is to have them on our land or land that the landowners have given us permission to hunt on. And as always all the other hunters that have been scouting as well so it gets to be quite an ordeal to get the one they want. Good thing they have 2-3 weeks of hunting so they can sort it all out. In SD if you own land you can get a buck and a doe license per county. With owning land in 2 counties we can get more deer than we need and of course we have 2 DGC now with youth licenses. But when we are out driving there are enough deer to go around for everyone as they are everywhere. DBIL who lives in town applied for a license this year did get a license so he is hunting with them as well. We give quite a bit of our deer meat to him and he grinds it up into salami that tastes awesome. The guys let him hunt on our land in return for his making this and of course it is a good family time for them. They did see a nice buck late afternoon yesterday as we finished combining but it is illegal to shoot from the combine. My guys are out hunting now so will see if they come back with anything---good luck to your DH as he goes out today.
Still listening to The Family Upstairs and getting more into it and now came back up for Summer of 69 so will continue where I left off with that. I see I am #1 on the list for several others now so will probably have an overload again. We leave December 5th for our annual National Finals Rodeo trip with friends so am looking forward to that getaway very much. DH was getting concerned several weeks ago if we would even be able to go if still harvesting but we can relax now and think about a fun trip.
Guys hunting today and guessing they will go for a nap in the afternoon since it is Sunday and all the long hours they have put in the last few weeks and then get out to hunt in late afternoon again until dark. I on the other hand have got to get my butt in gear and do some cleaning and prep for TDAY!

Hello everyone! Cold rainy day here, again. The rest of the week should be decent, though.
Carol, I’m so sorry to read about your DDIL! Do the doctors have any idea what it could be! I suppose they don’t want to say, or maybe have no idea whatsoever. How scary this must have been for them (and you) when it first happened. I’m sure they’ll get to the bottom of this. Sending prayers your way!
Karen, congrats on getting your tree up! We’ll be putting ours up soon, but first I need to get the carpet cleaned which will be next Monday. I’m actually looking forward to having it up because it will get me in the Christmas spirit. For some reason this year I’m not there yet! For those of you who have carpeting, do you shampoo them yourself or have them done? Didn’t hear about any problems with Kohls! Hope it’s not true!
Pinky, so glad your harvesting is done! What a weight off your back. Now I imagine it’s back to the cattle?
Hi Gareth & Marsha!
Robin, yes that’s what Fosamax was meant for, but the FDA received reports of spontaneous fractures of the thigh bone which they call “adverse events” (I’ll say they’re adverse). Also, I read issues with the jaw bone. This is why my OBGYN took me off it after about three years. I do think these fractures are rare, though.
I finished The Christmas Boutique and enjoyed it. A good one to read between others. I think I’ll start The Alice Network next. I think someone here read it and said it was just OK, but since I have it I’ll give it a try.

Carol, so sorry to hear about DDIL. I hope they can figure out what it is. Good thing that you can go help out, it must be really scary for them.
I made the 2 turkeys, but am watching football now, so will bring them over to the woman's house after the game. The Jets are playing well so far, so keeping our fingers crossed. We have it on a bit of a delay, so not half time yet.
I was sure I posted yesterday, but I see not. My big event of the day was buying a new kindle. I ended up with a gift card from Best Buy that we did not give to the people buying DM's house, so I used it for that. They already lowered it to their Black Friday price, and I bought the one with 32g memory. DH's is getting a kindle Fire because he reads things that have maps that he can't see on a regular kindle. He wanted a small one, so it was only $29.99. I will see how it is, and maybe will get one so I have something for internet bigger than my phone, but smaller than my laptop. Of course I then will have to figure out all my passwords. I am not sure about gmail, that's the one I really don't know, and also how to get on here.
On the way home yesterday I stopped at a high end discount department store that is local to NY, to look for a particular type of sweater that DH likes. Of course I had to look at their baby clothes. They were absolutely adorable, but I won't buy anything to bring into the house, but it showed me that they still have what I thought they had.
Pinky, great that you have harvest finished! Yeah!!
Karen, did your DD2 have her surgery? I must have missed something about her,
I was at Target today, it was the first time they didn't ask me about the credit card. I usually say no to those. I managed to spend $200, but did get a $20 gift card. $10 for buying Tide, Cascade, and garbage bags, and $10 for spending $50 on food and household. I am amazed at how much cheaper most of their food is. I am sure I have said this before, but the other day I bought Kraft Deluxe (I know, terrible for points), thinking I might make it for dinner Friday because of my stomach, I paid $4.99. The regular price at Target is $2.99, and they had it on sale for $2.69. Of course I can't say the same about everything they have. And, I noticed today that not only does no one have Tide for $9.99 any more, it is now 92 ounces instead of 100. I don't like buying the bigger container because it is just so heavy.
Anngie, I started The Alice Network and it didn't grab me, but everyone loves it. Maybe I wasn't in the mood that day. I am reading The HEarts Invisible Furies. People rave about it, and I am enjoying it so far. Sometimes people rave about books I don't care for, or just don't think they are as great as they all say, others I somehow like more.

Thanks, everyone for thoughts and prayers. I think I forgot to say this before, but DDIL was on a new pain med so they took her off of it in case her trouble was a side effect. We just heard from DS and they are trying a new med and releasing her today. I'm not sure why she had a pain med, but I think she has female problems of some sort. I guess every med has the possibility of causing strange side effects. I know they are rare, but someone must have had a problem or they wouldn't just say this might happen. Anyway, we'll see how it goes.
Karen, I hated answering phones at school whenever I had to sub for the receptionist. They told me to always answer the phone even if there was a line of parents which of course, made those people mad. Also, when people were on the phone, they would start unloading their problems which I couldn't help them with. I would tell them I would have to transfer them to the counselor or assistant principal or whoever and whoever was on the phonedidn't like that because they would have to tell the whole problem again.
