Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Today we will get to 40 degrees, as we wait for a rain/snow storm to come this evening. Thankfully in our area it should be all rain, north of us can expect 8"-12". I am so glad we are not getting all that snow!
Gareth, I have not read Under the Influence. DD2, is having a partial hysterectomy today. DD1 is the one having the bariatric surgery around christmas. DD2 DH does not have the PTO left to take off both today and tomorrow, so that is why we are taking her, and staying for the surgery. Her DH will bring her home tomorrow.
Marsha, it is always good to have you back here on Monday, you are missed all weekend! With how we have so many numbers to keep track of, I am surprised that what happened to your friend does not happen more. When your DD comes home Wed, how long does she have at home, before she has to go back?
Carol, glad to hear your DDIL is back home, good luck to them. About the movie It's a Wonderful Life, when they started showing it on TV, for awhile it was on all the time, then they just put it on once during the holiday, and we watched every year, back in the day. As with Gone with the Wind, my daughters and I can quote the whole movie, but it is to the point where I can not watch it anymore...overkill. But I do love the theme of it. If you could see how your life impacted the world, you would be surprised. Thank you!!
Robin, I am always happy to see underdogs win the football game, except when they are playing the Packers, lol!!! We are playing the Giants, at the Giants house this Sunday, and I am always worried when the Pack plays a team that is lower in standings than the Pack, as it seems they play down to them, then the underdog wins. The thing about my Kindle, I can go on Google to read an article, and all of a sudden it kicks me off, saying something about the app. It is irritating, but I figure that I can go on my phone if it is really important, which it is not, in the evening.
We are getting to DD2 house a bit early, to give DGD her birthday present, as I think DD wants to see her open it. Her birthday is Thursday, and DD must think she will be kind of out of it, from the surgery.
I got the dressing made yesterday, after going to Target and getting the fitted sheets (I bought 2). The turkey breast is out, thawing in the fridge. DH told me last night that he invited our elderly lady friend to eat Thursday, as she is just going to go sit with DH, right across the highway from us. He did not tell her a time that we will be eating, so now I am wondering when we should have the dinner. Oh well, it is what it is.
Have a nice day everyone.

We are going to get into the high 50's today. and it is nice out with no wind. Karen, so the Packs will be in our stadium! The Jets and Giants share. I will be rooting for the Packers. The Jets play Cincinnati, so we should win, but I shouldn't say that. Prayers for your DDIL. Hope all goes well.
I am getting a late start. I have been having some weird dreams lately that get me up during the night and I stay up longer. After I made my 2 turkeys to donate on Sunday, the only other thing I am making is a corn pudding to take to my DS. It is a very easy recipe. Canned corn, sour cream, a box of Jiffy cornbread mix, and a stick of melted butter. Something like that. When we brought it for the football game, the way they heated it up burned the bottom, but it was still delicious. I will make it right before we go so she might not have to reheat it for more than a few minutes. Friday night should be fun, but I feel badly that both my DDIL's will not be there.

Guess I was MIA yesterday----I did get all my running around done yesterday so can prepare for Thanksgiving today and tomorrow. Had my hair cut and colored right away yesterday morning and then went on to a chiro appt. and buying groceries. My car was full when I got home between the groceries for Thursday and then DD's family will be here throughout the weekend. They will go to DSIL's parents on Saturday for Thanksgving dinner and Friday evening we will go to DS#2 for the twins's birthday party and their son who will be turning 5 on Dec. 9th so will not have to make meals for those 2 times but the pantry is stocked and the freezers are full so life is good. Well except for this snow that is supposed to be moving into our area. They say only an inch for us today as we are on the north edge of it. South of us could get up to a foot. Then Thursday and Friday we are on the south edge of the storm. It will either be good for us or really bad if it overlaps and we get dumped on both times-----UGGGHHHHHH!!!!
Karen---sending prayers for your DD's surgery today. Hope it is a speedy recovery and she feels better soon.
Robin---are you taking a different medication that could be causing the weird dreams???
I need to get a move on here and get some things done as I am falling behind. Once I did get home last night DS#1 asked if I could come over and watch their kids so they could go out to eat as it was his 38th birthday yesterday. Of course I can and off I went, of course I was really thinking I have so much to do before Thursday but it was his birthday. It didn't take long as they went close by and the kids were in bed early due to a school night so nice to just put my thoughts together after a busy day too.

Reading through what I missed on the weekend.
Too late now but I happened to be reading a recipe online for turkey breast where they mentioned a method to cook a frozen turkey. There was a link. I didn’t look at it but it said basically it takes twice as long. Not sure I’d want to do that.
Carol – just read about ddil. Oh my how frightening. How is she doing now that she is off that med?
Pinky – congrats on finishing the harvest!!
Robin – reading your post about Target pricing . My Target is next to my grocery store so now when I am making my lists I make them on the store aps which gives me the current price at the store plus any coupons or deals. So I can compare prices at Target and at the grocery store and I know which store to buy things at. I make homemade yogurt and I use Fairlife milk which is always cheaper at Target unless the grocery store has it on sale. Shelf stable bagels are cheaper. Peanut butter. Starbucks coffee usually.
(and I deleted some of my comments because I noticed they were answered in other people's posts)
And now on to today…
Karen – dd comes home tomorrow (weather permitting I suppose) and she’ll go back on Sunday. I don’t know how she is getting back yet. Her roommate lives in Kohler and they drive through Fond du Lac so we could take her to Kohler to go with them or take her to ds in Fond du Lac and they will get her there, or we will put her on the bus. I supposed depending on the weather and what ds’ plans are for Sunday.
I'm making apple pie, pumpkin pie, and chocolate tarts to bring on Thursday. DD wants brisket for dinner tomorrow so tonight I have to remember to marinate it so I can cook it in the morning before work. I'll make my pies on Thursday morning then maybe also make my stuffing for our dinner on Friday and if there is time cook the turkey breast. I ordered a turkey breast from the butcher expecting one of those frozen guys with the legs and wings removed but instead I got what looks like something he cut off of a big bird, and it looks like 1/2 (must have been a huge bird because my half is over 5 pounds) and I think it has a few breast bones. I was going to put it in the Instant Pot but now I'm thinking oven because that will allow me to judge doneness by the temperature.

Laundry is done again. Hamper is empty until DH gets home from work and starts filling it up again. The last few days have been in the 50's. It changes this afternoon when the rain starts and it gets windy. At least it's not all the snow that's predicted north of us. I'll just be glad when the holidays are over. I hate when everyone asks our plans and then feels sorry for me since it'll just be DH and myself. I was touched though by a member at work who insisted we join her family and friends for TG. I thanked her for her thoughtfulness and she understood why I turned down the invitation. I really have no problem with it just being the two of us.
I didn’t sleep well last night. DH and I've been discussing if the time isn't getting close that we'll have to make the decision to put down our elderly cat.

Karen, hope your DD's surgery goes well and she has a quick recovery. Nice you and your DH can be there with her.
DDIL is doing okay. She and DS stayed home from work yesterday. I'm sure they were both tired. Guillain Barre was mentioned. I can't remember if that is one that was ruled out or not. DDIL has an appointment with another doctor in their town. We haven't heard if they are just going to stay home for Thanksgiving or not. I think I would be inclined to stay home and take it easy. We will all be together at Christmas.
I went to Target to get a baby shower gift. Our store was recently remodeled and I had trouble finding a couple of departments. The baby things were in the same vicinity, but were all rearranged. The same for the makeup and lotions and hair care.
I have the same corn pudding recipe. It's very good and easy.
I sometimes have weird dreams when I have a migraine. I think it is from the pain meds I take.
Gareth, we have had people invite us when it's going to be the two of us. We went to someone's house for Thanksgiving a few years ago. It was nice, but I felt uncomfortable. The same people asked to come for Christmas dinner a couple of years ago when we were on baby watch. DD didn't want to go anywhere and she didn't want anyone at her house and DS and DSIL went to her relatives so it was just DH and me. Anyway, we turned them down and I think it hurt the wife's feelings, "you don't want to come to my house?" We knew things were going to be busy once DGS came and that it could happen anytime and DH and I don't mind being alone. I really can't remember what we had for Christmas dinner.
It is in the high 60s and cloudy and windy. Yesterday was beautiful. I think everyone with migraine and sinus problem has a headache today. Tomorrow and Thursday should be much cooler with rain on Friday.

Karen, I’m hoping DD2 surgery is well over with and all is well! Please keep us informed! Glad to see you found the fitted sheets. Let’s see, now, how long they last. Even though it may have come as a surprise, it’s very nice of you both to have your elderly over for Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe she’ll talk about her and DH plans.
Robin, dreams can keep a person up all night! I’ve been waking up myself around 3-3:30 and it’s terrible. No wonder I fall asleep watching TV in the evening.
Pinky, isn’t it something how our kids get older and us parents don’t!
Marsha, now I’m going to stop into our Target and see if ours has changed any! And we have a Starbucks too. We do have a very nice book & CD section, much better than Walmart.
Gareth, sorry about that much hated decision. It’s so hard. I once. I once vowed “never again”, but we do have an 8 yr. old dog so it’ll be “once more”.
Carol, will DDIL need more testing? Good to see she’s home and rest might be the best thing for her to do. There’s nothing wrong with having a quiet day on Thanksgiving. We’re going over to my in-laws so I only wish I was having a quiet day.
Today is a beautiful 55 degree sunny day. Tomorrow rain.

Carol, just in case it ends up being Guillam Barre, my friend is fine now, and it lasted a relatively short period of time. There are certain medications she can't take, but not sure what else. Sometimes it's better to know than not to know.
Marsha, I can't remember where you are going, but seeing as you are talking about making pies, I guess somewhere.
For holidays, it is the one time that my DH I think would go anywhere other than staying home. We came from families that always did things, but once something happened where it was a 2 day holiday, I made the first night, my brother, sister and mother all ended up going up to Ithaca for the 2nd day, our cousin that we usually go to was not doing it that year, but of course DH blames my siblings, as we had nowhere to go. I remember having a very stressful day at work that day, and I was happy to just stay home and eat leftovers, but I would say it's about 15 years and my DH is still talking about it.
Today was our office lunch we always have, so I don't really have to worry about dinner. I had sashimi, and it was a bigger portion than they usually give. DH always gets a beef and noodle dish, often doesn't finish, so I bring his leftovers home for him. Those are the days I like, no cooking.
As far as the dreams go, I have not changed medication, and am not sure why at all, but they were both dreams about babies, maybe I am just thinking about DS & DDIL. It was not them with the baby though, it was me. The first one I didn't have anything at home to take care of the baby, like soap, shampoo, that kind of thing. I guess they don't use J&J stuff any more, but I will have to go over it with them before to know they have it planned. Last night it was weird, and I can't even remember what it exactly was.

Gareth - so sorry about your cat. As someone I respect says, the best you can do for your pets is give them a happy life, then let them sleep. My cat lived 19 years and after she was gone I "saw" her everywhere. When Afi died, as some of you will recall, dd and I lasted 2 weeks before we started sending puppy pictures to dh. I couldn't not have a dog in the house.
Robin - I think everything is different now with babies. I saw where they no longer use crib bumpers. When my kids were babies we were still using them as long as the babies weren't mobile but as soon as they started to move around we had to take them out.
Boss was out for a medical procedure this morning and said he'd be here this afternoon. It's 3:40 and he hasn't shown up. I don't know whether to be worried or not. And I don't know whether to plan to stay late in case he eventually shows up (unlikely at this point). Tomorrow is supposed to be another computer maintenance day so there will be interruptions plus as the day before a holiday everyone will probably leave early.
