Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. The rain is here. It is 42 right now, it will probably stay at that temp all day. Glad it is rain, as the town I love to go to, 3 hours north is expected to get 9"-13". They can have that, as they are snowmobile nuts up there.
Robin, thanks for rooting for the Packers sunday, they need all the help they can get!!! Maybe the Jets winning games lately will rub off on them.
Pinky, lots going on for you, this holiday weekend. Hope you get the rain, like we are, I would prefer that right now than snow, then have it for so long. Thank you for the good thoughts for DD.
Marsha, looks like your DD should be home today, right? With just rain, it should just be slow going on the highways. Did you hear about all those accidents, on HWY 41 in DePere last night? Unreal, and I could bet it is just people impatient to get home, what with it being rush hour. I agree with Robin, I don't recall where you said you are going tomorrow...DS?
Gareth, could you run up here and do my laundry? Lol! Did not have time to do it yesterday, as we were gone all day, so of course, it looks like so far there are 2 loads waiting for me for this afternoon. I am so sorry for the grief you are going thru, with your decision. God, we love our pets!!! I like what Marsha said tho, that is very appropriate.
Carol, thank you. Good luck with your DDIL, hope it was just a freak thing. But then she is left wondering, and worrying. Gloomy weather for you too I see.
Anngie, lol, yeah, I was thinking that, when I put the new sheets on his bed. I am still stumped as to how he wears them out so fast. All of mine that I bought last winter are still wearing just fine. Thank you for the well wishes for our DD. Rain too for you today huh? Oh well, it could be worse, right?
DD surgery went well, but then she took 2 hours to come out of recovery, whereas they predicted an hour. The pain was kicking her in the butt. Once she was settled into her room and doing good, we left. 8 hours at the hospital, so we were hungry, grabbed a burger at Culver's then went to visit our elderly friend at the assisted living place. He seems to be in rough shape, but his mind is not as bad as I had heard it was. Visited with him for 1/2 hour then dragged ourselves home. Was in bed reading an hour later. DH fell asleep within an hour, he was so beat.
Need to be at DD house at 5:35, so we are there before her DH leaves for work. DGS has to go to school, but DGD doesn't. Then our son in law only works till 10 am, which time we can go home. Him and DGD will go get DD from hospital.
I never mind being home by ourselves on Thanksgiving. It is the calm before the storm, so to speak in our family, because all the birthday's start, then christmas. The wife of elderly friends was at the "home" when we got there, and she basically said she won't be coming over tomorrow, which I kind of figured she wouldn't.
Sorry so short on personals, but have to get going.
Have a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!!!! I will start us up in the morning, as usual, but doubt I will see anyone on.

Sorry I was such a debbie downer yesterday. Feeling better this morning after a good night's sleep. I just hate the thought of what's coming soon with our cat. I really don't mind it just being DH and I tomorrow. Just hate everyone asking our plans and then feeling sorry for us that we'll be alone. Finished Under The Influence which I really liked. Now I've started The Stranger Inside which isn't really grabbing me yet.
Karen, glad to hear DD's surgery went well. We got rain starting later afternoon yesterday into overnight. When I got up there was a dusting of snow. At least we didn’t get all the snow that they got north of us. We're under a high wind warning. That wind is really howling gusting up to 60 mph.
As usual my morning is getting away from me. Gotta get ready for work. Then a couple of days off!

I just finished scooping the sidewalks off from our snowfall----UUUGGGHHHH!!!!! And we didn't even get it as bad as to the south and east of us. Pretty sure most of it fell between Gareth and I and then up towards Karen. Forecast for tomorrow and Friday say snow to the north of us so hope we are on the edge of that one as well. We got what I would guess to be about 3 inches. It blew so hard last night and in the night that its hard to tell the actual amount---glad I was home as it was very poor visibility. Saturday sounds like more snow and horrible winds again.
Karen---so glad your DD's surgery went well. How far are you from Mpls./St. Paul? They really got hit in that area too. I thought it looked like on the map you may have received snow as well. You were up with the birds this morning!
Gareth--Sorry to hear about your cat, so hard. Enjoy your couple of days off.
I have plenty to do today and getting a late start with having to shovel snow so better get to work. If I don't make it back on here I am wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving!!!! However you are spending it whether it be your spouse, your extended family or friends may you enjoy your day together and have safe travels if you are on the road. Just want each one of you booklover friends to know how thankful I am for you!!! As I think about each one of you its crazy that we have never met and yet you are here pretty much every day and we chat and share our joys, sorrows and concerns. FEELING SO BLESSED by each of you!!!

Rain rain rain. So much better than 13” of snow!
Karen – we are going to our former Rabbi and her husband. We do Thanksgiving and Passover with them. We started that when they first moved here as we both have kosher homes and enjoy being able to go eat at someone’s house where we can relax and know everything in front of us is ok for us to eat. We take turns for Thanksgiving and since Passover is 2 nights we each do one. How is dd this morning?
Gareth – last night I was talking to ds about his gf’s new car and they were supposed to send me a picture, instead I got pictures of the cats dressed up in sweaters and hats (the cats looked pretty angry!). Then a picture of a cute happy kitten and I panicked thinking is this cat #4? But it is gf’s sister’s cat.
Pinky – we’re about a 4-1/2 hour drive from the Minnesota border. It looks like we will just get rain from that storm but we are lucky, it isn’t really all that far from us that it is snowing.
I cooked a brisket this morning because that is what dd wants for dinner tonight. I also made chocolate chip cookies- but not thinking clearly last night I thought I would make the cookies because I'd be up anyway while the brisket cooked. In the oven. The only oven. So I did several small batches in the toaster oven and put the rest of the dough in the fridge. We have enough to snack on for a few days and if I don't get around to baking the rest of the dough I'll put it in the freezer.
Still reading Resistance Women which I'm starting to like better. About 35% in and I turned off the wifi because it will go poof in a day or so.

Karen, hope DD feels better, and doesn't overdo things when she gets home. Good thing you are not getting snow. Is your DB coming over? I know you mentioned that at one point. How is he doing?
Marsha, good tradition so that you both know you can eat what you want, and know what you can bring to each other. What I am making tomorrow is definitely not parve, I was thinking to say not kosher, but it could potentially be dairy, I would have to check to see if creamed corn is kosher dairy. I am sure you will be happy to have your DD home for a few days.
We are only going to be 7 tomorrow, which for us is a small group, but should be enjoyable enough. Seeing as we are going to have such a big family get together on Friday, and then again our theater thing on Saturday, it's fine to be small. I am hoping to get DH to go out somewhere for dinner tonight.
Gareth, I know how you feel about people asking you. I think if it were just me and DH I might go out for dinner somewhere. I do sometimes make turkey for us for dinner, and often make sweet potato with it, but not all the other sides, and I do love stuffing and pumpkin pie! So sorry about your cat too. That is the problem with our pets, they normally don't outlive us.
Pinky, I so agree with you, just such a nice way to stay connected to different people, and it is a great time to tell everyone how thankful we are to have them in our lives. Hope you enjoy your big shindig and don't tire yourself out too much.

Marsha, kind of funny about the cookies. Good you were able to come up with a solution.
Gareth, I'm sorry about your cat. I think no matter their age it is still hard. The cat we had before we got our 2 cats we have now lived to be about 20. Even though we knew it was the right thing to do, it was a difficult decision.
I ended up with the migraine from hell yesterday afternoon. I had to take meds for nausea because I felt like I might throw up. Thankfully, it worked. I'm in my post migraine fog right now. I slept a little later today.
I have a pie in the oven. That's really all I had to fix right now. Surprisingly, DS and DDIL will come on Friday afternoon. DD and DSIL were planning to just stay over one night. I hope their time here will overlap a little so they can see DS & DDIL. If not we will all be together at Christmas. Yes, DDIL will have to have more tests. I'm not sure what for. We used to have friends we would get together for the holidays, taking turns which house to go to. They moved away and even though they moved back to Texas but not to our town, we never started up again. In fact, one of them we haven't seen in years.
I remember going out for Thanksgiving. We would go to a cafeteria, Furrs or Lubys. They closed here years ago and I'm not sure they still exist.
If I can't come back, I will go ahead and wish everyone a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving.

Yes, we’re going to be getting that rain - thank you very much!
Pinky, you said it beautifully! We’re a special group here. We get together every day (usually) and truly be a small part of each other’s lives! How many people can say that!
And however we choose to spend the day tomorrow please know you’re in my thoughts - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I'm getting ready to leave work and I probably won't be back on this page until Monday so I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a good weekend.
