Day 31 Decide About Drinking
Whether or not to drink alcohol is a personal choice. If you decide to drink alcohol you need to plan on how to fit it into your food plan.
According to Beck alcohol has 7 calories per gram which is about twice the 4 calories per gram of protein and carbs. Mixers for drinks often are caloric too so mixed drinks can end up being a lot of calories. She points out that if you eat less to be able to drink you could rebound by eating more later because you are hungry. You can also end up overeating because alcohol lowers your inhibitions.
Beck feels that if you donβt plan ahead about your drinking of alcohol you can easier end up drinking too much.
If you want to include drinking alcohol in your food plan she suggests you list the advantages and disadvantages and figure out how to fit it in.
Do you plan on drinking alcohol? If you do how do you fit it in?
Do you have sabotaging thoughts about drinking alcohol? How do you handle them?

This one is easy for me. I don't drink anymore because I end up depressed the next day. I also want to stay away from the sugar.

Do you plan on drinking alcohol? If you do how do you fit it in? Sometimes - usually on Wednesdays with friends.
In the past, while counting points religiously in 1998/9, I would figure out the margarita points for the evening with friends then eat around that all day till I got to margarita time. I have not been doing that recently.
Do you have sabotaging thoughts about drinking alcohol? How do you handle them? Maybe? It is probably that, "You are with friends and it is *only once a week*" thing again...need to get a better handle on that thought...

Do you plan on drinking alcohol? If you do how do you fit it in? I drink alcohol once or twice a year. Since it's so rare I usually don't worry about it. I do keep in mind that if I drink, the scale number is not going to be what I want. My husband and I go out drinking with our neighbors. This started on his 70th birthday and we did it again last year for his 71st so we will probably do it again for his 72nd. My husband and I go on a vacation without the kids once a year. It's usually for two or three days and we usually drink the first day because we're "free" but then we remember we don't like drinking and don't do it the rest of the trip.
Do you have sabotaging thoughts about drinking alcohol? How do you handle them? I used to have to worry about a third time, Christmas when everyone came out and wanted to drink. There was some wine but I don't feel the need to do it anymore. They really don't care. I was just mind reading that they would care if I didn't do it. I know they don't care and I know that they know I don't like alcohol. So I was just lying to everyone, including myself.

I will always drink fine wine. I plan for the calories and keep it to the weekend.

I make wine my dessert. I have it when we have company or dine out. Occasionally I when we're out I'll enjoy a before-dinner cocktail. I've stopped having alcohol with dinner at home because then I'd start snacking.
I plan for it by lowering my points for the meals leading up to it.

I rarely drink and when I do, it's usually a glass of moscato or demi-sec champagne, very rarely though so it's not an issue for me.
