I'm IN.
And - as usual lately - I'm exhausted. But yesterday's Young Marines event was a good one, participating in Wreaths across America with the Sea Cadets.
Must get some Christmas going on around here.
But first... coffee... βββ... and some quiet time...

Buon Giorno friends! I am back from our trip to Milan, Italy. I was up at 4 a.m. in Houston this morning because I'm still on Italian time. We had a great trip and so enjoyed meeting new people, walking and eating lots of good food and vino! The trip home was much harder as our plane in Milan sat on the runway for 2 1/2 hours with ice on the wings. By the time we flew out to Frankfurt, we missed our connection to get home. Lufthansa paid for a hotel for us for Friday night, along with dinner and then we left Saturday morning. That flight was great and I even received a gift from the Captain as we were exiting the plane. It pays to be polite; he said I was the first person leaving that complimented him and his crew on a good flight. That surprised me since I sat in the back of the plane, so I was one of the last to leave and no one had said "thank you". (this was a 747 jumbo with hundreds of passengers) Anyway, I'm now a proud owner of a Lufthansa leather case with items for travel: headphones, La Prairie hand creams, toothbrush, hair brush, eye masks and socks. Pretty cool and a nice ending to the trip. I will share more about our trip but I definitely recommend a trip to Milan but think doing it in Sept.-Nov. would have been better, weather wise. We took a walking tour in Milan, seeing the Last Supper (which is fantastic!) and we walked through the town to the famous Duomo cathedral. (stunning!) and the temps were in the 30s. I guess that helped me not gain weight and we averaged 15,000 steps every day!

Linda, Thank you for the recap of your visit to Milan. You brought back such wonderful memories for me. We lived in Italy for two years when DH was in the Army. We have gone back twice and love the country. Welcome home. Great story about your gift from the captain. Marie

borntexan, wonderful pic and you, as always, are a wonderful inspiration! linda72, welcome back and I love your pic too! Good afternoon. Very blustery outside. Several of my outdoor Christmas decorations blew over. Mrs. Claus took a header so we loaded her with more rocks and are hoping for the best. Of course we didn't get as much done this weekend as we thought we would because we got sidelined by deciding to deep-clean the grout in the hallway and kitchen floor on our hands and knees with nail brushes and cleaner. It looks great now but took way too much time. Oh well. All the floors are clean, leather furniture scrubbed and conditioned, fireplace doors detailed, etc etc etc. Pretty much done with the cleaning chores but not a heckuva lot of decorating done. LOL---and as I write this, DH has decided to tackle the assembly of our new fake Christmas tree so maybe that will inspire some more decorating activity. He is reading the instructions. KOKO everyone.

DebDoesWW, what a great picture of your boys, eh, men! Congrats to TJ on the Master's degree, that's awesome. borntexan, love your new picture too. Congrats on being recognized for being LT. Glad your leader is so supportive. pbnj, we'll be here when you are ready to return. Changes in life are hard but you will grow and be stronger. You all are too kind about the picture. The picture is a stock photo of the Duomo (cathedral). I wanted you all to see the size of the place with out all of the people milling around. There were all sorts of Christmas shops in the plaza area and that detracted from the church itself. This cathedral is the 4th largest in the world and I really felt the size of it inside. Absolutely gorgeous. The Last Supper in another smaller church was very impressive and I'm so happy it wasn't destroyed during WW II. Much of Milan was flattened during the war so it's miraculous when you see these very old structures. I've been busy today with laundry and sorting everything out of my suitcase. Broiling trout tonight with fresh spinach and salad and trying to eat smaller portions and also...no wine for awhile!
