This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. *************************************** It’s Ugly Sweater Day!
I am wearing a sweatshirt not a sweater and it is not particularly ugly but it does say “Happy Holidays.”

Thanks for the start, Chele. I don't own any ugly sweaters but have several adorable ones. I am, however, wearing a bright red light weight hoodie from the Rockin' Santa half marathon that Dale did last weekend. He figured he wouldn't wear it so he gave it to me. Do you have all your shopping done? What will you do on Christmas? What's on your menu? What are you and Iggy planning for the weekend?
Kathy, I could see how the thrift stores would do well there with college students, and I'll bet even things like furniture would be a big item. Where you "the wrapper" today? Did you see the early a.m. launch from Canaveral? It apparently was seen here because it went off course and is schedule to land in NM. Is your weather becoming more seasonal and less wet?
I think all fitness trackers are on sale right now, Becky, and I hope that will continue after the holidays. Your wrist is probably smaller than mine, but probably not by that much. The Garmin is definitely large enough in circumference, but the actual tracker is larger compared to the Alta HR I used to wear and just hits my ulna at a weird angle. What a terrible ending to the story of the Ausin mother and baby. Pretty bizarre that her "friend" planned to steal the baby and likely killed the mother. So sad. I feel so bad for the dad and the 2 kids who no longer have a mother. I'll be anxious to see if this "friend" gets off on an insanity defense. I know what I would like to happen, given that Texas has the death penalty and this was premeditated, so a capital crime.
Linda, is the finger getting less tender? Mine is just about healed. What are your Christmas plans? Are you working on your cafe scene at home during the holidays?
It's Friday, Liz! How was your last PT session? Do you have exercises to do at home? Do you have a temporary repair on the tooth, or are you having to eat soft foods only? How much time will you have off next week and when will you go to Jersey? Will DN be coming home for the holidays?
I've had a busy morning. I did some time on the treadmill then started working in the kitchen. I baked Arya a butternut squash, plus rutabaga fries and marinated tofu for me. I also water sauted some mushrooms picked last week and did the last ice cream layer for the ice cream cakes. I also did a load of around the house laundry. Dale went to the pool and then had a couple of things to pick up at Ace Hardware, and should be home shortly. I have nothing else planned for the day and apparently my hound doesn't either. She's sacked out on the couch.

Part of the cut is deep, so it is still covered and does not want to be bumped! But it isn't as bad. Still some stuff I really cannot do.
Went to Pier One ...all xmas stuff over 50% off . Got two placemats, two cute plates with Christmas dogs on them...one a dark schnauzer and a nice ornament for next door neighbor gift for next year! This is next toNordstrom rack, Maxx, Ross, and such with pedestrians looking at phones, no parking spaces and drivers turned aggressive today...ho ho ho.
So being a glutton for punishment, I went to Costco for a new pair of black jeans. actually not bad! But they have almost no women's stuff now except leggings , jackets and pjs. Section is mostly men's now. rats. So I came home with wine, cheese, a book and two of their great hot dogs. burp!
Found a huge chocolate Merry Christmas cake with mousse filling to bring Tuesday! problem solved.

Thanks for the start Chele.I don't own an ugly sweater or a holiday sweater.I am wearing a heavier pullover sweater I ordered from Macy's.
Karen I remember the Alta HR being so small. My wrist measures somewhere in the 5" range. When I first read your post on my phone when we were in Elgin all we had heard that it was probably the mother from Austin and that the baby was unhurt. They are still awaiting DNA and autopsy reports but I'm sure it is.Two friends were talking yesterday(one being the one who kidnapped the baby)and the other one could hear a baby in the background. However she had baby registries at Amazon and Target and told family and friends she had a baby around the first of December. They were talking again this morning when police showed up and she told the other friend she had to go and she hadn't heard back from her.I don't think a bond of $600K is near enough.I realize they can't prove murder yet but with tampering with a corpse she is surely the one who killed her IMO.The friend had the whole thing planned out. From what Kenneth heard on the radio news he gathered she wanted a baby really bad so she decided to kidnap her and her baby. They will have more on the 4:30 KXAN news in a few minutes. My hound is sacked out on Kenneth's recliner while he is getting the cattle in.
It's been cool and dreary all day. It's showered off and on this afternoon but we won't get much accumulation.

Chele, it's funny how ugly sweaters have become such a thing. No ugly sweater here, but I have a long sleeve shirt on that has a small "Life is Good" on it.Thanks for the bird nerd link. He has some great pictures on there.
Karen, less traffic would be a unicorn. Ugly sweaters are in the eye of the beholder, lol. No wrapping yet. I got sidetracked with some decorating and putting some things out that I haven't had out in years. We're moving our grocery store trip up to tomorrow since they're forecasting 2-4 inches of rain on Sunday, so no dry season yet. I didn't see this morning's launch and hadn't heard that it veered off course. I'll have to catch the local news this evening.

Linda, I love Pier One. They had a good sale before Christmas too. I'm sure the crazies are out with the last minute shoppers. I'm hoping our grocery shopping won't be too crazy tomorrow. Probably better than waiting until Monday. Your haul from Costco sounds great.
Becky, your wrist is really small! That is really awful about the mother and baby.

Linda, maybe you should stretch out the finger recovery so you don't have to cook. That cake sounds good and you didn’t have to make it. Nice shopping trip except for the jeans. Becky, wow, that woman must have had some sort of breakdown to think that murder and kidnap was the way to have a baby. At my lowest weight my wrist measured 6.5”. You have a tiny frame. I wish you could have had some of our sunshine. It was a beautiful day. It is so rare for us to see the sun in the winter that everyone I met was in a great mood. Kathy, I went to the grocery today at 8:30 am and it was already a zoo. May the force be with you tomorrow. The Carl Bovis page takes a little more effort to find the photos since he is promoting his book and calendar, but they are worth the scrolling and some of the comments had me chuckling. I saw the weather that is expected down south over the next couple of days. You will be hunkering down. Liz, I hope you got out at a decent hour. The weather is warming up here, so I hooe it is coming your way. We should be at 50° on Christmas Day. Karen, did you and Sweet Potato enjoy your couch time? I remember you mentioning the guy you ran into and how happy you were when he left. I like the sound of that red hoodie. I thought I was do e with the grocery shopping then Iggy came home and said he wants to make stuffed zucchini for Christmas Eve. So back to the store I go on Monday. Iggy’s back is still hurting so no plans for the weekend. I got him a ham for Christmas. We will have green beans and sweet potatoes and salad. I will throw some chickpeas and egg on the salad for some protein. Since it was warmer and sunny today, my body released some endorphins and a lot of my aches went away. Enough for me to do the shopping, make a veggie chili, vacuum and clean the bathrooms. It felt good. I wish it had taken Iggy’s back pain away.
