Good morning,
This thread is for anyone that has been away from healthy eating, had a gain and is recommitting. We accept all forms of healthy eating here, whatever that means to you. We touch base daily for accountability and to encourage one another. This is a judgment free zone.
We all struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. Sometimes this is a challenge, but we never give up and that is the key. Regardless of our situation or where we are in reaching our goal, we count on talking to each other every day and are blessed to have one another as friends.
Feel free to jump in and join us. All are welcome here.
Our motto is persistence, not perfection

Hi Everyone...I decided I will go WI this morning (before my weight starts going up again after the illness)...last WI for this year. Got up with a migraine aura, but that has passed. Hey, I have been invited to a Hanukkah party tonight...she said to bring nothing, but I feel that I should bring something. Any ideas for something simple and quick I could take?
Jana - sure hope all goes well today...
OK, off and running

Good morning friends & happy Saturday!
Well after the last couple of days of beautiful sunny days, it seems the sun has gone back into hiding. It's grey, gloomy and a chilly 42 this morning. Tomorrow we're supposed to have rain all day. The forecast says the possibility of up to 4 inches. Yikes!
It seems DH is sleeping in this morning. He took Monday as PTO, the office is closed Tues. & Wed., and he's WFH on Thursday, so a whole week until he has to be back at the office on Friday. He was able to work that out pretty well to basically get a week away from the office with only be charges with one day of PTO. Of course most of those days he'll probably work at least a little bit to stay on tap of things.
I hope everybody has a great weekend.

Hi Everyone, Susie, Is this at someone's house or at a synogogue? Mixed nuts, or chocolate or white chocolate pretzels or jelly donuts or donut holes would be good. I have seen the jelly donuts being served at synogogue Hanukah parties. I am at a different place getting my brakes being worked on. I wanted to get a second opinion about getting it done and they are confirming that it needs the work. I havent been so satisfied with the way things have been done at the other place I go to. It isnt so much the actual work but just the communication/lack of about what is being done and a general seeming that they dont care so much. I was approved credit to pay off like I had at the other place so I am going to have it done here at this new place. Its a little further from me but I can take public transportation home or back. I think I still will be able to have my car for later and to go food shopping for my friend tommorow. I am just going to just get the front ones for now and then in a few months I will get the back ones worked on. He said they can wait a bit longer but should get done not too much longer. The car dealer was obviously not so right about telling us that the brakes would be okay for a while. Have a good day! bbl.

Good morning Susie, Lora and ATF. Susie, anything you'd normally bring to a gathering will be well received. Jewish people tend to love their/our sweets, so anything in that genre. Wine is also welcome although I don't know if the hosts keep kosher? If they do, you'd have to get a kosher wine. Pretty much anything goes. Sounds like fun but it's good you're weighing in before you go. Everything at Hanukkah is made with oil to celebrate the miracle of the oil lasting 8 days in the rededicated temple - potato pancakes (latkes), jelly donuts, - all delicious but hard on the digestion.
Lora, we have the same weather here, just a lot colder, in terms of the gray. No rain in the forecast at least, and after tomorrow I won't care what it does in NY since it will be 80 and sunny every day where I'm going. How nice that DH can be home so many days!
I have one more last minute errand to run, need a new water bottle. I hate the ones I have and I need one for travel and for Cayman and also for use when I get home now that I have the under sink filter and my water tastes good from the tap. I'm sure Target will be a zoo today. I've already bought coffee (Dunkin Donuts has 3 lbs for $20 now, which is a great price, although hardly Free Trade or organic), been to the bank and tried for a water bottle at the health food store but all they have are glass bottles. I also got some Quest bars and a jar of PB at the supermarket. I'm pretty much packed except for toilet articles. DSon texted me that his flight is delayed 2 hours so his kids are tearing up the airport. Ugh, traveling with littles... Can't wait to see everyone although I'm having my usual pre-travel anxiety.
I hope to check in here from time to time. Have a good week all and happy holidays to all ROs.

You and I were posting at the same time, Janet. Glad you're getting the brakes issue taken care of. You can't trust anyone, right? Especially not car dealers...

Well, my weight was down at WI (at least the sickness did something)...now if I can hold it together for the next week over the holidays.
Lora - oh dear, more rain...at least DH won't have to go into the office.
Thanks for the ideas Janet and Andi...it is at a friend's home...she grew up Catholic, married a Methodist, and found out just about 3 years ago that her DM had immigrated from Europe (before WWII I think). My DF and her sister discovered many things near to and after her DM's death.
Janet - hope the new place works out well.
Andi - had to laugh at your comment about the weather - don't care/not here - ha ha - I wish we were all going with you! I actually laughed out loud at the littles tearing-up the airport. Have a wonderful time.
Hope all is going well with Jana's family celebration today....bbl

Happy Saturday, everyone,
Andi, I don't know if you have a type of water bottle you already like, but I am a fan of the Brita water bottles. There is just a little charcoal filter in it, but it definitely makes any water source taste better. I have mine, because I can fill it up anywhere. It makes water from drinking fountains, taps, or anything taste cleaner. If I had a complaint, it would only be that it doesn't hold a LOT of water, but it is at least 2 cups. I always fill mine at home before I go anywhere, because I have really good, cold, clean tasting well water, but if I want to refill it, it doesn't matter as much where I fill it, if options are limited. Just thought I would mention it.
I came home early today, because I got hurt on a call. I am pretty sure it is not too bad, and I'm hoping it doesn't tighten up overnight. I felt something pop, in my lower back, when I was lifting a patient from the ground to the cot. We got her about knee high, and I was not in a great position due to lack of space for me to bend my knees properly and lift with my legs, so I was just lifting with my back and arms. I have never injured my back before, and I am so paranoid about hurting it and having a nagging, long lasting issue.... Anyway, I went on and finished up the call, but I could feel it getting tighter, and I kept thinking to myself "have I screwed up, and hurt myself enough to not be able to work?!". It didn't help any that my colitis has been acting up, so my gut was hurting and I didn't suck it in and engage my core while I was lifting. I'm just aggravated. I filed a first report of injury, just in case, and they let me come on home. I feel like I can rest it, treat it, and do stretching and relaxing exercises. I can't afford to miss work.
Well, I'm going to go stretch and get the heating pad. I'm going to get to bed early, because I didn't sleep well last night my stomach issues! What the heck! I'm falling apart! I'll be back tomorrow....waving to all,
RobinMD

Oh Robin how I sympathize with back issues!!! Hopefully yours will pass without too much down time. Mine was acutely painful for months when I threw it out bending down to pick up a ping pong ball (!) off the floor. I still have discomfort from it but PT and then working out regularly with a trainer as made a huge difference. I lived on Advil for ages - the muscle relaxant the doctor gave me knocked me out for 24 hours and I hated that feeling, couldn't go to work, pretty much slept all day, and I've never found Naproxen to be helpful. Some people swear by something that begins with an "M", am blocking the name at the moment, something that sounds like Mexico - Meloxicam? But my doc wouldn't prescribe it, not sure why. Anyway, I did the heat thing, the ice thing, and eventually it got tolerable. On the other hand, I am having knee problems now and am not at all happy about that. Yep, I feel like I'm falling apart too. Sleep well and hopefully all will be well tomorrow.
I saw a really fun movie tonight - Knives Out - I recommend it if you're looking for something lighthearted that also is a drama that holds your interest.
Guess I better go finish packing. Susie, so interesting about your friend - did she find out that her DM was born Jewish? I think that's what happened with Madelaine Albright, found out she had Jewish relatives who perished in the Holocaust. Anyway, hope the party is fun.
