Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. We will make you feel right at home.

Ok.… had a long post written, clicked the button for create post, then it came up that I did not have internet, and wiped out that whole post! I refuse to try and rewrite it. I have been having issues with our cable, with that router being the router for our internet also, so I guess now it is affecting internet.
I am sorry I won't do personals, I am just too darned ticked off to do it. Have a nice day.
Off to the lawyer in a few hours, and Robin, today is the day DD has her surgery.

My you have a lot on your plate Karen. Sometimes there is a bad router. We had an internet problem in the office 2 days ago. He said it was either the modem or the router. Luckily they were able to reset the modem from their side, and it worked. We have our own router, which sometimes goes bad too,
Off to a funeral, the father of a friend, and the father has had dementia for a while now, so really a blessing.

Karen, so frustrating to lose a long post. Been there~done that! Good luck with both the lawyer and DD today! Any news yet on DH on rehab or when he'll be coming home?
Just finished walking and listening to Big Lies In A Small Town. I'm enjoying it. Nice break from all the thrillers I've been listening to. Gotta get ready for work...

Karen - keeping your dd in my thoughts today for a successful procedure. I suppose the work will come later.
Robin- my condolences to your friend. Even when it's a blessing, there is still loss.
I stayed home from work yesterday with this blasted cold. I'm not 100% yet but I'm better. I finished Queen Bee. I didn't love it. but I suppose for a light read between things it was good. The Oysterville something something book came in so that's next.
The big news is dd was accepted into the Biomedical Engineering program so she is very excited and that's a big relief because engineering is the only thing she wants to do. She called last nigth (from AZ) to say she got the email that she's in. They weren't kidding when they said they would let them know "about a week before classes start" - classes start next Tuesday. She has already registered for a required class and purchased required materials. She'll have to get her books on campus.

Good Morning Ladies!!! Woke up to 9 degrees this morning and local weather guy saying that is the high of the day----BBRRRR!!!! We did get a light dusting of snow during the night but that has moved on and given us a blue sunny sky. I never made it on here yesterday as those twin girlies kept me hopping. They are so cute and fun, but so busy and of course what one doesn't think of the other does and at 3 years old you can only imagine. Double Trouble for sure!!!
Robin--Thanks for the poke bowl description--I am like the others when I say sounds good but not sure about the raw fish. Yes mexican food is big in our area as well and I am a top fan of that. Sorry about the loss of your DF's father but so agree it sounds like a blessing.
Karen--good luck to your DD with her surgery today and the journey she will be on after. Also hope your DH is coming along well---betting he would like to get home soon but makes more sense that he is where he is. Sorry about your internet issue.
Gareth--Thanks for mentioning Big Lies in a Small Town. I am a fan of Diane Chamberlain as well so went right to Overdrive and put my name on the list for it.
Marsha--Congratulations on your DD's big news. She works so hard at her schooling she deserved it. Hope you feel better soon. I was like you on Queen Bee--didn't love it but still enjoyed it. I did like The Oysterville Sewing Circle better.
Hi to Anngie and Carol!!!!
I am a little over half way listening to Crawdads and really enjoying it. I need to work on taxes today as I tend to be putting it off and paying some bills so that is my day today.

That is such great news Marsha, about your DD. I know how she wanted that. I hope she really enjoys her program! I guess their trip to AZ went off without a hitch, seeing as we didn't hear anything. I read The Oysterville Sewing Circle. Although it is more of a romance than I think you like, there is another element of it that is very good. Hope you enjoy.
Sometimes I like hearing eulogies when you get to know about someone's history that you would not have known. I know that my friend's father was a Holocaust survivor, and was in one of the same work camps as my DFIL, but didn't realize that towards the end he may have been in the same camp as my DMIL. There were 2 outside of Czetohova I believe, and she was in one of them.
Getting towards the end of The Third Daughter. Excellent book for me, a different historical fiction, something I never would have known about without this book.

Well, I woke up very early this morning with a migraine. I got up and took my meds and slept for a few hours. When I woke up the headache was mostly gone, but feel rather wiped out. Luckily, I didn't have much planned for today and what I wanted to do can be put off.
Karen, yesterday I was having internet problems, too. It seems to be okay now. I hope your DD's surgery goes well and your DH is getting better with rehab.
Marsha, congratulations on your DD's acceptance. That is great!
I finished The Bodies in the Library last night. It was just okay. Probably, I will not read the series. I'm rather tired of mysteries where people, not the police, try to solve the mysteries and end up getting in the way of the police and put themselves in danger. Plus, the towns the people live in seems to have a lot of murders. I need to go to the library. There is a library used book sale this weekend so I might wait and see if I can buy something there to read.
It is supposed to get cold tonight plus more rain. The good thing is no snow and ice is forecast.
Robin, I know what you mean about finding out things about people at funerals. I had an aunt who was a British war bride and I didn't find out until her funeral that she had been through the London blitz.

Just realized what I wrote didn't make sense-of course I knew my aunt was a war bride. I just didn't know about the blitz.
Fajitas and nachos are Tex-Mex, but we love them. We have a few restaurants around here and in Dallas that are authentic Mexican or other Latin American countries. Most of these offer Tex-Mex, too, since that's what people are used to.

Robin--I just looked into The Third Daughter, there are a couple with the same title but different author. I'm going to guess the one you are reading is by Talia Carner----is that correct? It sounds very interesting to me.
Carol---hope you are feeling better as the day goes on.
Sounds like we are going to be in for some nasty weather as Friday begins, not sure if it will last throughout the weekend or not. They are saying only up to 3 inches of snow but very windy so that will make visibility not good. It actually is ground drifting quite a bit today.

I am stuck here at home for awhile, waiting for various professional people to return my calls, so I hope I don't have to wait too long. It is all well and good that we can go places, with our phones, but these are calls I need to make here, while I can concentrate, and not worry about things like driving, or talking in a public place.
Robin, we have had various issues with these DRV boxes to our TV's and the router since even before we moved, and I am just darned tired of it. I don't know if you remember, last summer we were actually without TV for 5 days? That was just stupid, in today's world, to have to be without. You have my condolences for your DF father passing. As Marsha said, yes, a blessing, but also a mourning of a loss. The weirdest thing hits me, and strong, tough Karen starts crying, over my brother. I did it to DH last night. I felt bad for him afterwards, he did not have that coming to him, especially being in rehab. I think he knew I was just venting. I too like eulogies, as you hear things about the deceased that may surprise you. I wish I could be around for my party after my service, I am planning on making it a very good time, with a eulogy that I know I will have to hire out for, before hand, because I know I can not count on my DH or daughters to do, as they would just start crying. Oh my, I hope I am not getting too maudlin!
Gareth, DH is coming home Friday, so I have a list of things I need to run and get beforehand. I am actually getting nervous, thinking of him coming home, and me responsible for him, in his delicate condition. I guess I better enjoy these last couple days, as my time will not be my own, once he comes home, poor guy! He is talking about sleeping in his recliner. When I came home from my first knee surgery, I made sure I could sleep in my bed, as I did not want to be out in the living room sleeping.
Marsha, congrats to your DD!!! What a great thing for her! Yeah, a week's notice, yikes. Sorry about your cold, at least you were able to go to work today! I don't know if you saw the chocolate football I shared on FB last week or weekend, from The Candy Store? I stopped in there today, and was talking to the owner, she told me a cute story about that football, loaded with chocolate candies. The Head Coach of the Packers, mother came in and bought one, for a Packer party last weekend! I guess she was getting all worked up even then, before the game, worrying about who she was going to root for, if the Pack won last Sunday, as one of her other sons is some kind of coach on the 49ers! Just like the Manning family.
Pinky, oh my, you have way more energy than I do, to deal so long with those 2 3yr olds! Yikes, 9 for a high!! That is very cold, I guess after the snow shuts off Saturday, we will be looking at cold temps for at least a week, and by cold, they are saying 15 for a high. I can deal with that, if there is no wind.
Carol I agree about those stories where people act like detectives, it is such a stretch that I usually give up on those books, just too unbelievable. Seems that my sister and her hubby are enjoying warmer temps than what you have there. I think they are in the 70's. He posted a pic on Sunday, someone having a patio party, and everyone had short sleeved shirts on, and it did not look like anyone was cold. Lucky people!!
Thank you everyone, for your well wishes to my daughter. The last update I had was she had a 3 hour wait for her room, after a successful surgery, so all is good. DH will be coming home Friday. On to therapy!!!
The lawyer meeting went just like I figured it would go. Now to sort out all the accounts at the credit union, then start paying bills.
As I kind of figured, I am sitting here, not hearing from anyone....do I take a chance and get some running done? I hate to waste a whole afternoon, waiting for phone calls. See ya all tomorrow.

Marsha, Congratulations to DD! I’m so happy for her. I could tell from what you would say, that that was all she hoped for. It’ll be a long haul, but she’ll do just fine. Is this a five year program? Nice, too, that she could share this happiness with her grandmother in person! Hope you feel better - what did you end up taking?
Robin, sorry to read about your friend’s dad passing. My heart goes out to people with dementia - if they only knew how they’ve changed - they would call it a blessing too. Eulogies serve a nice purpose don’t they.
Karen, I was thinking about DD earlier today. Glad to see it’s over and it all went well. When will she go home? Probably the same day as DH! Will you need to drive him to therapy or will therapy come to him? I wonder, since it was back surgery, if it’s wise to sleep in a recliner? Maybe he’ll ask his doctor beforehand.
Pinky, I’m glad you like Crawdads. I kind of thought you might! Those two little girls are SO sweet! Bless them.
Gareth, I, too, have stopped series books. Stand alone books are better, for me anyway.
Carol, sorry about the migraine. I really sympathize with anyone who is prone to them. I can’t even imagine how painful that must be. At least now there seems to be meds that either stop them from coming on or at least makes them manageable. I remember a time when people would just suffer. Our library also has used book sales. I’ve picked up good ones over the years. I still (old fashioned, I know) like a hand-held book.
When Karen mentioned paying DB’s bills I thought of a friend of mine. When her DF passed last spring she was in charge of everything. She’s one of five children. Well, only her sister (who would fly up from Fl) helped her. She sold the contents of the house and to do it they had 2 or 3 garage sales. Well, after the garage sales were over her siblings wanted their “cut”! BUT there were bills to be paid yet so she told them no. Then they wanted the riding lawn mower sold BUT the lawn still needed mowing! The siblings didn’t even do the mowing, my friend’s husband did it. It just went on and on. They all wanted their money.

Thanks for the congrats for dd. It was a big source of anxiety for her and the pressure to keep her grades up high enough to get into the program was really weighing on her. She still needs to keep her grades up but at least she is in.
Anngie - after one night on Sudafed I switched to Nyquil which seemed to work better and didn't keep me up all night. I'm taking Sudafed during the day and sticking to the 6 hour pills.

Karen, glad that DD's surgery went well. I have never been happy when my DH has come home after surgery, I hope yours is better than mine.
Carol, I would say a lot more of what people call Mexican here is probably Tex-Mex. I would love all the different cuisines from Central and South America, I am sure what you have is excellent. Not that we have a shortage here, but I don't always go to them. There is a Columbian restaurant that opened up near here though, so should really look into that.
Pinky, that is the author of The Third Daughter that I am reading. Hopefully I have enough time to finish it tonight. I am on my way back to the office to witness a will signing. I loved Crawdads, so glad you liked it too.
Anngie, you are so right about dementia. This man was remembering things that happened to him in the camps, like they were going on now.
Marsha, glad the Nyquil helped. Sudafed is good for the symptoms during the day.
