Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Yikes, first thing I heard was that wind! Cold, 14 degrees, with a feel like temp of -1, and the day looks like the wind chill will get colder. Thank you, PINKY!!!! (lol!)
All of you women are so kind! As opening the thread this morning, I noticed that I repeated the same paragraph in the intro, and all of you were too kind to point it out. Thank you. I will do my best to not do THAT error again.
Marsha, I think I got my cold from you....have you gone to Woodman's lately, or Festival Foods in Suamico? No? Oh...I thought maybe I used your cart after you. Hahahaha. I knew it was coming, and it finally hit last night.
Anngie, about my DD, she was scheduled to just stay 1 night, I did not talk to her last night, but will this morning. She is a lot like me, more on the tougher side, and her DH posted a pic of her sitting up in chair late yesterday, so I bet she will be going home today. I will be taking DH to therapy, at our clinic that is about 10 minutes away, just like last year, when I went for my knee. Yes, DH asked the therapist if he could sleep in his recliner. I guess it would be harder sleeping in bed. I can see how people would be so brainless/heartless, concerning $$$$ in a case of someone passing away. It can turn into a nightmare real quick.
Well, I never heard back from the woman who was supposed to help me reorganize DB finances, at the Credit Union, so I will have to try tracking her down right away this morning. As she has a Death Certificate that I left with her, I want to do this with her, otherwise I would find someone else. This afternoon our elderly friend s dropping off a bath chair and a toilet brace (?), so I have to be home then.
The weather guys are once again saying snow, from Friday into Saturday, with it being 4"-8", so I have DSIL all ready to go to DB house to clean out the driveway. I shoveled the couple inches from the other day, so I did my part, lol!!
I started reading the Address last night.....I think it was recommended on here, wasn't it? Thank you, to whoever did, I am liking it already.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, glad to hear DD looked good. As far as your DH goes, sometimes sleeping in a recliner makes things much easier. Getting yourself out of a regular bed puts a lot of strain on your back. If you have ever had a back problem, you can remember that.
Here it was mild this morning, but the wind is supposed to pick up and we will drop into the 20's overnight. I have another friend who's DM died, and they are having a graveside funeral tomorrow, of course on the coldest day of the year so far. DH switched his flight so he will be on a particular conference call, so I will go by myself. Not only is this a very old friend of ours, we used to hang out at his house all the time when we started dating, when they were in college, and I knew his mother well.
Got to get dressed and out to networking!

Karen---We are at 14 degrees also BUT a Negative 14!!! So yes Your Welcome! Not windy now but sounds like we are in for a storm too this weekend starting tomorrow and continuing into Sunday sometime. We are in a 2-4 inches area but supposedly horrible winds like up to 50 mph in some places. Hope you are able to get your DH home before your snow hits. Glad your DD is doing well---know for the new way of eating. Smiling at the repeated paragraph as I never even noticed it---LOL!!!
Robin---thanks for confirming that book author. My overdrive doesn't own it but I will recommend it as it sounds very good. Sorry about another friends parent passing. Hard to believe your DH will be home already today, it seems like he just left---although you probably think differently.
Anngie---I can't even believe that family that wouldn't help the sister with parents estate (other than the one sister). So much greed isn't there? Guessing they were not an exceptionally close family to start with---just makes you wonder what makes some people tick.
Okay so today I am going to try to finish up what I said I was going to do yesterday---LOL!!! I was pulled in several different directions yesterday and then at 3:00 DS#1 asked if I could take DGD's to gymnastics as he had a guy coming and DD was still working. Of course I can---then DH texted while I was watching the girls(which they are at back to back times) do I want to meet him at our little local cafe for wings night. Of course I do-----at least I didn't have to make supper.

Karen - haha I'm an east sider so I can't figure out how I gave you my cold but I'm happy to take credit (guilt?). I'm feeling human today so as colds go really not a terrible one. A few bad days but over it quickly. DD is still sick from what I can tell. DS and dd fly back to Milwaukee on Friday. DD will take the bus to Madison but I'm going to offer ds to stay at a hotel overnight and I'll pay so he doesn't have to drive back alone in the dark in a storm. He won't take me up on the offer but I'll make it anyway. Glad dd looks good and hopefully she'll come home today. Be sure the rehab people work with dh on stairs before he comes home.
robin - sorry to hear of another loss. Hopefully they will keep the service short.
Hi Pinky. Enjoy dinner out.
I started the Oysterville something something and I'm enjoying it so far.

Pinky, DH is coming home tomorrow, not today, maybe I said it wrong.
Karen, I am sure I talked about The Address. I know Gareth was reading The Apartment, and I mixed it up with The Address.
Marsha, I hope DD doesn't get your DM sick. Hope all works out well for them traveling back.

Home from work until I go back again later. As usual someone came in just as I was closing this morning so I was late getting out. Seems no matter where you go or what you do people are always late anymore. It was -6Âş going into work this morning with a wind chill of -21Âş We're under a winter weather advisory starting tomorrow morning at 6:00 going through Sat at 6:00PM with mixed precipitation of snow and ice with 50mph wind. Going to HyVee this afternoon instead of Sat. I'm sure they'll be busy as grocery stores always are with a winter storm predicted.
Karen, when DH broke several ribs a few years ago he slept in the recliner in his office for several weeks before he could sleep in bed again. Hurt too much getting in and out of bed. Glad to hear DD is doing well after her surgery. Take care of that cold!
Robin, sorry to hear another friend's parent died. I'm surprised at this time of the year they're having graveside services. At least they're usually short.
Pinky, you're in that same storm system that we're getting. I suppose it's wishful thinking hoping it'll miss both of us.
Marsha, hope DD gets to feeling better soon. That's hanging on a long time. Glad you're feeling better.

It is 45 degrees and raining. Yesterday the high was the low 70s. No snow or anything like predicted. I can't imagine temps below freezing. We very rarely get down to single digits.
I went to Walmart this morning. It seems like they are always out of at least one thing I want. It's really irritating. Also, the aisles get blocked by the employees pulling orders for the pick-up service. There are always several of them doing that.
I've been to a couple of graveside services in the cold. I think the minister kept them short. Robin, sorry you have another service to attend.
Karen, the idea or anticipation of money makes people do crazy things, I think. And some people think their parents owe them even if they weren't close to their parents. The MIL of one of my friends completely cut one of her sons out of her will. He contested and won so he got some money. Needless to say, the others don't have anything to do with him anymore not that they were close.

Woke up to 2” of snow this morning. And more to come over the weekend. It’s gotten very cold and windy too.
Does the cold weather really affect arthritis like people claim? I wonder.
Robin, sorry to hear of another service to attend.
Marsha, glad you’re feeling better.
Pinky, isn’t it nice knowing you don’t have to cook tonight!
Gareth, I always laugh at how busy stores become as soon as bad weather is predicted! Apparently people feel they’ll be trapped for weeks and there’s not a morsel of food in the house!
Karen, did you hear back from the woman at the Credit Union?
Carol, I always wonder how someone can contest a will and win. How iron-clad is it if it can overturned (at least in part). In the news, an exceptionally wealthy woman in the horse racing world had her will written that if anyone contested it they would receive nothing.
I just had the first part of the shingles shot the other day. Sore arm but that was it. The second part is in March.

Robin---Yes I confused myself I think. I knew you meant DH coming home Friday, but for some reason as I read it I was thinking it was Friday already today and I knew better----I need to focus better. Of course, I still don't know where this week has gone.
Marsha---that was last night we ate out, I probably worded it wrong. I really enjoyed The Oysterville Sewing Circle.
Gareth---yes most likely wishful thinking for us but we can still wish right???
Carol---Have you always lived in TX or the southern parts so that you have never been around the really cold weather? It just made me wonder when you said you can't imagine the low temps. Yes as they say "Money is the root of all evil" is more often true than not isn't it?
Anngie--eating out was last night so I guess I still have to cook tonight. Oh well!!!

The reason our friend decided on the graveside service is that his wife's father died about a month ago, so they just went through that, with the shiva. He had 2 siblings. One was institutionalized from either birth or a young age, that was what they did back then, and I am not sure whether she is still living. His brother has other mental health issues, so it is just him. His mother divorced his father when we were in college, one of them was having an affair, I think her. His father died quite a number of years ago anyway. His mother had married again, but can't remember what happened with husband #2, and there might have been more but she has been alone for a long time. The ground here is definitely not frozen now, I don't know how quickly it can freeze, as it is supposed to go down into the 20's here tonight. I will bundle up and hope it is short, but I feel I have to go.
Carol, definitely crazy weather, every day is different.
Gareth, I am happy we are not having anything like you and Pinky are. Usually here when they predict snow the shelves get cleared of milk and bread. Why everyone thinks they will starve I have no idea.
Anngie, I only had a sore arm from the first shingles shot, and a little redness. I didn't feel well after the 2nd, but that only lasted 1/2 day. I thought that moisture made arthritis feel worse, but probably not great in the cold either. We are going to get snow on Saturday, maybe from 1-3 inches. I can't totally understand it because it is going to be 37 all day.
