Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Wow, I turned the heat way down last night, big mistake!!! Glad DH is not home yet, lol. Brrr, very cold in here, as the temp outside is -4! I did not know it was going to get that low. Going to warm to the 20's today, for the snow coming in tonight.
Robin, DD was having issues with keeping liquids down at home, so I hope they call the doctor if that keeps up. DH had to get permission to sleep in his recliner, as the positioning of the recliner can affect his surgery. Omg, I am so sorry, about another friends parent passing. You are a great friend, to feel you should be there. They do burials here too in the winter, DH and I were just talking about that, he said they put some kind of tent over the site, and warm it up, so it is easier to dig.
Pinky, yikes, on that temp yesterday morning!!! As I mentioned, this morning we were at -4, I think that is the coldest this winter season so far. Yesterday we had the wind going on and it was like a slap in the face going outside. We are not used to this, but it is January after all. They are saying 5"-7" for us, so we are quickly catching up to what we normally have by now. So how was the wing night? I never got into the wing thing, lol, you have to eat so many of them to get full, lol!!! Now call me when it is Taco night!!!!
Marsha, lol, I was just kidding, about the cold. This is a weird cold I am having, as I am not sick sick, like during the day, I can function. It is in the nose, and then in the evening the coughing hits, very annoying. Rehab has been working with DH on all sorts of scenario's with him, one of them right away was the stairs. I love how being in that Rehab department as a patient, he has therapy so many times a day. I kind of wish I had that opportunity with my knee, especially the bad knee. That cold really got ahold of your DD didn't it? Maybe it is because she is on the go so much right now. Hope they make it back ok, what with the weather.
Gareth, speaking of people being late. I have a chronic late DD. We have learned to tell her, when we have get togethers, a earlier time for her, so she will come at the correct time, lol!!! Every time I have to go to her house for any reason, when she is going to work, and she needs a sitter, no matter what tie I get there (of course I am early), she runs out the door late. Omg, on your DH and the broken ribs, as I can relate, with having broken ribs with my lung surgery. That was hell on earth, in bed after the surgery, trying to turn just a little!! DH would come running to see what was wrong with me, because I would be in total agony, and I finally told him I would try to quiet down while doing that, since I did not want to alarm him, but man that hurt!!! We are not expecting our snow storm to come till after 6 pm tonight, so that way I can get everything done during the day today. Hope you got all your shopping done.
Carol, I am wondering too, if you lived all your life there, or have you lived anywhere where it is colder? I was at Walmart last week, and experienced the same thing, empty shelves. And that was in where all the pain relievers are like Tylenol, and the generics of it. Come on, why would that all be empty? For such a big chain, they sure do drop the ball on keeping their shelves stocked! I read an article about that issue of them being in the way, filling orders for the pick ups, and they said they were trying to get a handle on how to do it without getting in customers way. That was awhile ago that I read it, so I guess they haven't figured it out yet. When I was there last week, I did not have that issue, but I did not go into the grocery store part, so I don't know if they were in there.
Anngie, sorry for your weather. I guess we are all finally getting into January weather. That arthritis thing in the cold...could be, as I had to put CBD oil cream on my bad knee last night. Yes, I did hear back from the Credit Union. I will mention it later when I am done with personals. That is funny, about the how that woman had her will written!!!
I got my Pneumonia shot Tuesday, and by the next day I had a few red spots in that area, and was it ever sore! I see the spots are gone but still sore. The nurse said I am good now for the rest of my life with that shot.
Had the cable guy here yesterday as our TV keep freezing up on live shows or football games, he thought he fixed it but no, it is still doing it, so they are coming back this afternoon.
Went to the credit union with all the required paperwork to get control of DB money. Found out I had to go on the IRS website and get a EIN #, ok, got that done, then the CU lady told me with the Affidavit I gave her, there will be a 30 day hold on the money. Grrr. Always something! I can not wait till this is all over!!!
Have a nice day everyone and stay warm!!

Karen, we get bulk EIN numbers from the IRS, 10 at a time, to assign to clients. We get them validated first a month after we get them, then when we assign our 10, then they send us a new list. I am in charge of that. Sometimes we use the 10 really quickly, like if we have 6 trusts from an estate. It is easy to get one. Not a big deal. You can use that with every account that becomes an estate account. When you said your DB's financial planner, is it all with the credit union or does he have another account?
I am here complaining about 24 degrees when you have -4! It has been very windy here since about 8:00 last night. I was worried we would lose power during the night, but we did not. Still windy, so DH's flight, which took off already, will be a little late. I will have to keep tracking it though.
With our Facebook Booklovers challenge, it kept me on track this week, and of course DH was not here so I ate less, I lost 2 lbs. At first the scale earlier in the week was showing a gain, so I was upset, but this is why you only should weigh yourself once a week.

Robin - with the family history you described it doesn't sound like there will be a lot of people who want to speak at the graveside. Is it a Jewish service? They can whip through that pretty fast if they want to with the Hebrew. I imagine it won't be a long service. Nobody will want to be out in the cold. Wear boots. I find the worst part is forgetting how cold my feet get.
Karen - I knew you were kidding with the cold. Sorry if I sounded snippy. I think we hear ourselves in our heads and it's not the same as how other people may read our comments. I am hoping the kids' plane is on time so ds has time to get home before the storm. latest I heard it will be around 7pm which means he should just make it. DD will be going through the storm on the bus. Hopefully she'll make the 5:30 bus, otherwise she'll be on the 7:30 which means the roads will be pretty bad by then.
Robin - between the Facebook Booklovers challenge and my 2 bff's from high school getting back on track and we are long-distance checking in, I've been much better at journaling this week. And with being sick I didn't eat much but also didn't feel like cooking. Tomorrow is my official Weigh In day and I'll see how I did. So far it looks like down about a pound.
No plans for the weekend. The usual cleaning and groceries. Probalby won't go anywhere tomorrow because of the storm. I think we will run out of milk before I get to the store Sunday. Maybe I will be one of those people desperately shopping for milk today before the storm hahaha.

Just finished breakfast after getting the laundry done. My "helper" vacuumed upstairs while I was down stairs. Love my little "helper"! Now if he'd just help with other things needing done around here today too! Listened to Big Lies In A Small Town while I did laundry and walked. Enjoying it like I have all of her other books. All's quiet here now but from the forecast that’ll be changing soon when the snow moves in. Worst will come when the wind really picks up. Lot of schools and events have canceled for this afternoon and tomorrow. Looking iffy if we'll be able to have tomorrow morning’s workshop. A little too early though for a decision on that yet.
Karen, hope all goes well for DH's homecoming and the stairs don't pose too big of a problem. I'm sure he's anxious to get home. Hope DD is doing better.
It must be the same all over for Walmarts not having their shelves well stocked which I just don't understand. I can understand an occasional backorder but there's just too many empty shelves all the time. It's a real problem here too with the workers shopping for online customers. They practically run you down and it's hard shopping around their huge cart blocking the shelves and aisles. They're very rude too when you try and get around them.

Nope, I 've only lived in the South-Texas and Arkansas. Arkansas weather is pretty much like Texas though sometimes the northern part of the state will get colder weather. DH has lived in Kansas so he at least had some experience driving on ice.
Gareth, late people drive me crazy. One of my sisters is always late. I used to think it was funny, but now I think it's a way of control-can't go or eat until she's there. MIL used to tell FIL things were supposed to start earlier than they were because it would look like they were late, but not. For instance we were getting a family picture made and she told us the appointment was for 1:30, but it was really for 2 so we would be there on time. I couldn't believe the number of teachers and staff who were always late for school.
Anngie, I don't know how the brother was able to break the will. I've heard it is hard to do. My shingles shot made my arm sore. I just took Advil or something for it. A woman at church was talking about it and said don't plan anything for the day after the shot because you're going to be in a lot of pain. Several of us said it wasn't that bad.
Marsha, I hope your DD has a safe trip back to school.
Karen, good DH can sleep in the recliner. My DH has done that before when he had a sinus infection and his head felt stuffed.
It is a gloomy day, cold and rainy. I went out this morning and ran several errands. The weather is supposed to be the same tomorrow so I thought I might as well get them done since the stores on Saturday would be busier no matter the weather. We will go to the library used book sale tomorrow.

So, I ended up forgetting to go to the funeral until it was too late. I picked up DH from the airport, he ended up reaching me in the car around 11, dropped him off at home, came back to the office. There were messages and mail, and by the time I remembered that I needed to leave for the funeral, it was too late. It is about 1/2 hour away.
Marsha, I so agree with you about feel being cold, I have my warmer boots on, I was even thinking I should have worn my Uggs. Doesn't matter now, but I did get a lot done.
Carol, were you in Arkansas when Bill Clinton was governor? We kind of lose track of time, that was a long time ago already.
Karen, sorry I did not comment on DH. I think it is good for him to be in rehab as long as they will keep him. If he is in pain going up and down the stairs just to go to therapy, that might not be great for him, and I would imagine he has a bed in rehab that is adjustable so he can make it comfortable for him.
Gareth, I am hoping one of my libraries gets that book in ebook format.
I am reading The Dearly Beloved. The beginning is kind of confusing until you keep the characters straight. I am hoping it will get better.

Good Afternoon---our weather is very nasty. Most schools cancelled already last night before the storm started which sometimes makes you wonder why but they made the right call as it is terrible out there. Even the large city schools called off already last night. I understand the snow should stop here later this afternoon but the wind will remain and may even get worse so visibility will be a huge problem.
Karen--Hope you get your DH home before the snow hits. Dang on the below zero temps, the cable guy not getting the problem fixed, the issues of getting everything set up at the credit union and also DD not being able to hold down liquids---Reminds me of a pair of socks I have that say Dang It All To Heck!!!

Today is frigid and windy. Tomorrow’s D-day - up to 8” of snow by nightfall. Can’t wait for that.
Karen, hopefully DH got home OK - or is he staying longer? I’m sure the PT’s will determine if he’s ready to go home with the stairs. Is DD feeling better? I wonder how it will be with the new diet restrictions. Let us know!
Marsha, a pound is a pound! Keep up the good work! Hope DD makes that 5:30 bus - one less thing for a parent to be concerned with.
Gareth, our Walmart isn’t nearly as bad as our Target is for having unopened boxes in the aisles and no one stocking shelves! I see here, that both stores are hiring too.
Robin, how many times a week do you weigh yourself? I only step on the scale once a week - otherwise I’m easily disappointed! I wonder how often the others here weigh themselves?
Carol, my arm wasn’t even sore enough to take Advil. I’m actually more concerned about the second shot. It seems many more experience flu-like symptoms for a day at least. I’ll still take this over getting shingles. I remember DH’s grandmother had them on her face. The pain was excruciating and there wasn’t much that could be put on her face to help. It was terrible.
Not much going on this weekend. DH’s birthday is tomorrow but with the weather forecast we might not even be going out for dinner. DS2 and DGF are coming Sunday instead - just for pizza, cake and ice cream and of course, to watch football.

Hi Pinky! we missed each other! Your weather sounds horrendous. Do you have a fireplace? How about a generator?

Anngie - I weigh every day. I do that because I find it to be more accurate for me. It keeps me focused and on track, and I recognize when it is a blip and look for trends so I don't get upset if I am up a pound one day or get excited if I am down one day. I look for the numbers to stay there before I consider it real.
Looks like my kids' flight will get in almost 45 minutes early which means dd should be able to make that 5:30 bus and ds should manage to get home before the storm gets too bad.

No, I haven't lived in Arkansas since the late 1970s. My parents and other relatives lived there though. They were all very conservative and didn't really like the Clinton. I guess I should say the older relatives felt that way. One summer my niece worked for the law firm that Hillary was with and my nephew supported them.
Anngie, yes, I think the little discomfort I had with the shingles shot is worth it. I've never heard anyone say having the shingles wasn't so bad. I am so happy they came out with a vaccine for it.

Robin---I am hoping for my library(Overdrive) to get that book as well---I did recommend it to them.
Marsha---safe travels for your DS and DD, glad they are running ahead of time.
Gareth---has the snow hit you yet?
Carol---interesting you have always been in the south. And yes Kansas can experience some yucky weather too.
Anngie---yes we have a gas/propane fireplace and a generator. Hopefully with it being colder so we did not get freezing rain our electricity shouldn't be a problem.
Sounds like we are all experiencing some crummy weather, some worse than others but praying for everyone's safety with it.

It looks like our cold weather is going to carry over until tomorrow, and the temps won't rise until the evening, so if it does start snowing, we can have some build up, but then hopefully the rain will come in the evening and melt it before we worry about it.
Anngie, I also will hop on the scale almost every day when I am really watching myself. I don't worry if I am up one day, I count things for the week. Friday is usually my best day, so that is the day I count from. Not surprised it is very frigid by you.
Pinky, I guess you are already getting that really bad storm. I know what you mean about them sometimes making the decision to close too early. Good thing they did for today though.
Carol, not surprised that the younger generation is not as conservative as the older.
