Anngie, loved the book Art Of Racing In The Rain! Actually read it twice with several years between and enjoyed it again. I want to see the movie too.

Pinky, glad you loved Crawdads, so did I, from the very beginning. Most people loved it, but there are some on one of the Facebook book club pages that didn't. I just find some of those people so obnoxious about certain books, like if it is not what could really be defined as "literature" they don't like it. They say it was predictable, and I can't even remember what else. I just so disagree with them on that. It is one of my all time favorites as well. So there is no rest for farmers I see, always something to do around the ranch. Sorry that that Ambulance crew had such a hard time with all the stranded drivers. I don't know when people will learn. Sometimes I see the videos and pictures of pile-ups and just wonder what some people were thinking. And of course on a lot of them there is always a Fedex truck involved. Of course not on your local roads though, but I can't imagine a family feeling stranded like that. As far as Freddie Mercury's back story, I didn't know about it at all, but it is definitely not a shock for us New Yorkers. Although people were not open about it at that time, even here, or accepting, now it has become so much more commonplace that people are very open to whatever choice someone wants to make. I guess what you are saying is that is not the way where you are.
Anngie, glad you didn't get as much snow as predicted, 4 inches is not bad. Sorry you missed going out for DH's birthday. I was thinking of The Art of Racing in the Rain too, but wasn't sure if DH would like it. I loved that book! It took me until last year to read it, but it was great.
Gareth, glad you are using the time with the frigid weather and not getting out of the house to do something constructive. I am sure you will be happy to have that behind you. Sorry for the cold weather you guys are all having.
We are in the 40's today, but it is going to drop very soon, and go below freezing by later this evening. I had moved my snow shovel, and one of our garage doors no longer has a button to open it. When we had the opener on the one we use all the time replaced, the guy somehow disconnected the button from the other opener. There are 2 wires hanging that I can touch together to open it. I guess DH could really hook up a button, but I didn't bother. Almost all of the snow melted, and I had a dust pan in the garage, so just bent down and scooped up the little that was left next to where my car was parked. There is more, but it's not where I would be walking, so it's OK. If it melts, it melts, if not I will be fine.
Karen, did your DD have the surgery done laparoscopicly? I know there are various ways they do this surgery now. They do one type with a band, another where they bypass the stomach somehow. Good that she felt good enough to go out.

Forgot to mention, we went out to pay a shiva call to our friend who's DF died last week. DH was away for the funeral, so did want to go. A very tangled web of relationships. Our friend's niece, the daughter of our friend's DB, is married to the son of someone we know who's parents were friends with my in-laws. They were there as well.

Gareth---I have not been out for 3 days either. I could have gone over to DS#1 and DDIL's this afternoon but just didn't want to leave the house---just to dang cold.
Anngie--I finished Crawdad's and loved it! As Robin said I loved it from the beginning and held my interest until the very last page. WOW---I was so drawn into it I really didn't want it to end but yet I wanted to hurry too, to see how it ended. Glad your total snowfall amount was less than forecasted,
Robin---Interesting isn't it how some people just have to be difficult and put down whatever everyone else is liking. I guess I could come across the same as not loving Bohemian Rhapsody as many people did. Yeah the midwestern in me really came out there. I still say I am glad I watched the movie, just didn't love it. DH really didn't like it at all.
Yes I finished listening to Where The Crawdads Sing and highly suggest it to those that haven't read/listened to it yet. I am now going to listen to Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand. Also reading my tree book for book club--The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen 83 1/2 years old. Not loving it, but it was hard to want to read that when I just wanted to listen to Crawdads.
