Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 24 here, and today starts a few days of light snow each day, around 1"-2" each day, with highs going into the 30's.
Wow, we are having impressive amounts of views each day! All you lurkers, stop in and say "Hi, my name is so and so, and I am reading...…." We would love to have you, as the opening says, everyone is welcome here!
Pinky, yikes!!!! You are just amazing!!! You lost me at crop insurance, LOL!!! Is all of that something that grew over time, or were you thrust into all that? Did you take a class to be able to do all that? I thought, back when we had the house, that our taxes were a bit much, what with all the medical to deduct, and then house, but you sure put me to shame. Now ours is nothing! Your story about you and the cable cord sounds like something I would have done, at the house, love it!!!
Marsha, loved your comment about taking a break from reading and doing some chores!!! I had to make a new habit, back when I retired, that I would not read during the day, so I could get things done around the house. The only time I read is the evening's, or when you have to go sit somewhere, like a doctor's office or hospital. I think the reasoning of the restrictive diet is because of what they did to the stomach? She did say that I think today, she gets to start having pureed food, but it still is just certain things, like chicken, turkey, and veggies. So she is slowly being introduced to other foods. It is sad that it had to get to that point. I feel like I am responsible for all this that she is going thru, as you know, it all goes back to how the person was raised! DH and I are going to look into forwarding DB mail to here, tomorrow. The thing is tho, we are worried that if we don't check on his house every so often, someone might break in. With The Address, Overdrive gives me the option to eread it, to then it is downloaded to the opening of Overdrive, instead of on my page on the kindle, so it is still on my kindle, just a bit different way of reading it.
Gareth, wow, you were very cold yesterday morning, also! All day yesterday that wind had a very cold bite to it. Lol, it felt like January! We too are going to have snow for the next few days. I can deal with those, instead of those big storms. How many more days till Spring?
Carol, fun time for you, this weekend!!! Sounds like all of our grand children are sick or getting sick with the flu. When you had your MIL mail forwarded, did you have her phone number forwarded somehow too? That is weird that you got those calls. There is no way squirrels can get to our cable cords, as all of that is buried under ground. Come to think of it, we do not see squirrels around here, not like at our old house, them and red squirrel were all over the place!
Robin, oh my, DDIL due date is coming up soon!! Is she getting big? DD's diet is very strict, and I think eventually she will be able to eat like a normal person, except that it will be very small amounts, of course. With the Packers loss, it actually was a surprise they got that far, this season, with the new coach and all. So they did better than expected. Looks like off season might hold a surprise or two, as a lot of the guys are at the end of their contracts. Bookbub books do not show up with all the books shown on my desktop, with the Overdrive books. I do know about going into Manage my Contents, it is just a hassle to get there on my kindle.
The TV's are fixed. We ended up having 2 guys working on it together, and after replacing both DVR boxes, they thought the wire inside the wall was bad, for the living room TV. Oh oh....well after doing this and doing that, an hour later, they were able to get that working too. They were happy that we had all those issues, because now if anyone else in this apartment community has those issues, they know just how to fix it. Well....glad to have helped!!!! Lol!!!
Have a big grocery shopping list today, DH is debating coming with me, he will use one of those motorized carts, but then it will be slow going, with the shopping.
Have a great day everyone.

Karen, I guess that is the difference, with Bookbub, I connect to Amazon, and the book downloads to my kindle, not overdrive. I set it up so long ago that I am not sure how I did that. Maybe you can contact them to do that if you don't want to read on your desktop, but not sure what other device you have. As far as your DD goes, I am glad that she is going to start to eat other foods. I am sure she was given information about how food would be reintroduced. I think they do a lot before they agree to let someone have the surgery.
Trying to get out early today. We scheduled our book club for 4:00 today, and I am going to decide whether to leave at 3:15 or 3:30, walk the dog, and then go. Or just wait until I am done, maybe leave book club a little early.

Just finished walking. Finished Big Lies In A Small Town While I walked. I liked it but didn't think it was one of her best books. One thing I like about listening to books is that I can do chores and "read" at the same time. Make's it go by faster just like when I'm walking.
Karen, glad your TV is finally working! Your weather forecast sounds like ours.
Gotta get ready for work...

Not much to report here. Still listening to Homegoing and still not invested in it, and reading Sold on a MOnday which seems to be good so far. We got dd an Ipad because she commented that for her engineering and math classes (which is pretty much everything) she can't take notes on her computer because of the drawing elements and she sees other people using tablets to do the drawing. We ended up getting one at Costco - she used her leftover spending money from Israel and we covered what she was short. She just got it yesterday and she hadn't had a chance to set it up yet (a riding lesson tonight - of course!).

What a mild morning we have, nice to wake up to 28 degrees and temps in the 30's for today. It is cloudy and foggy--I suppose from the warmup through the night-- but still mild just the same. No wind which is good as yesterdays wind really turned travel quite hazardous in our area. So much ground drifting it was hard to see and caused drifts on much of the back/gravel roads so school was 2 hours late today as well as many other schools in our immediate area had late starts. We are on what is called the Buffalo Ridge(don't know why) but that area which starts north of us a little ways and winds down through us and the western edge of MN for quite aways south always gets the nasty wind and weather.
Karen--I have noticed a lot of viewers also and would be so fun if they would join us either daily or every once in awhile. We always love getting more book ideas and chatting. The tax stuff is what we have grown into, so learn as we go and of course our lawyer has been asked many questions over the years. DH and I always say we have been so blessed through the years, as we started out with maybe 20 cows, a little land to farm and DH helped my dad with the seed business during the busy season. I worked at the local bank and as our family grew so did our operation. My dad retired from the seed business and we took it over as well as renting some of his farm land. This helped us to grow during some good farm years and when a farmer that was a neighbor to my dad retired we sought us out to buy his farm. We then moved from town to the farm and I quit my job at the bank. As our children grew older we had purchased or rented some more land and both of our sons wanted to stay with the farming so more cattle were added and more land. Then a dear friend retired from the crop insurance business and asked us to take that over and as DS#1 was graduating from college he would be here to help in that part of the business. Sorry you probably didn't need this long novel but that is how we have grown and as each new venture or enlarged venture has come along we have learned the tax information for that. Pretty crazy---but yes we have been blessed with people who saw in us that we could do the farming, selling the seed and crop insurance and others that have entrusted their land to us by renting it or selling to us. We love our people in our area--customers, friends neighbors etc.
Marsha--I agree that seems like a more diverse crowd would have gathered for the MLK gathering. Strange!
Robin---I like too how you can manage your books through Amazon on the kindle.
Gareth--that is what I love about audio books as well, the fact I can read a book and get my other things done as well. Only a few times have I not liked a book on audio and they have been ones that they have a more foreign accent so hard to understand sometimes. An english/british accent are not to bad but a German is hard for me. I did love Crawdads in audio as you really got the southern accent with that.
RE Overdrive: I find that in audio which I always listen off of my Iphone I just have to download the title and it takes a minute or two, but I have a harder time downloading an ebook. Probably partly because I seldom do that so I don't always remember. But if I download it in epub form it works better on my phone, and of course on the kindle the choice is to download to kindle it goes right to my library and I find it there. The epub way I find it under the Overdrive app. Just need to study it more and I do find that I can't always find it on both phone or ipad. I guess if I did the ebook more I would know or figure it out.
I had better go into town and get the mail, hope the roads are good. Guessing with the warm-up the roads are warmer and the wind blowing snow across the road sticks and melts and causes slippery spots. Glad I only have a 1 1/2 mile trip--that is one way so not too bad.
Hi to all!

Anngie, Evernote is an app for note-taking, lists and really whatever you want. I went through old planners and made a family time line. I also keep DH's and my prescriptions and tests. I keep track of things we've done to the house and appliances and furniture purchases. It also synchs to our computer. There are a lot of things you can do with it, but some of them you have to pay for. I think it is similar to note on iphones and Onenote. I'm not sure how I happened to choose this. I was having trouble with the Apple notes synching with other devices.
Karen, please don't blame yourself for your DD's weight problems. My DD has had weight problems since she was a teenager. About 10 years ago, she joined WW and lost a lot of weight. Gradually, she gained it back and more. A few months ago she joined a gym and has been working out regularly and is trying to eat better. She is an adult and knows what she needs to do and how to do it. She has to made the change and no amount of nagging from us would cause her to change. Years ago a young woman I worked with said her fiance was calling her "Ella". She asked him why and he said, "You know like Elle Phant." She was crushed. She started eating just one meal a day and lost a lot of weight. Some of us wondered if she had developed some kind of eating disorder. She changed jobs not long after that. I couldn't imagine DH saying something like that. Sometimes I wonder about her and if they are still married.
It is cold and wet here. It never got below freezing last night so the roads are just wet not icy. The part of Oklahoma north of us got some sleet.
I don't know how the scammers got our phone number for MIL. We still have a landline so they might have bee able to look it up on google.
