Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. It is mild this morning, 28, with it getting into the 30's We are getting snow, light snow, and it is supposed to keep snowing for the next couple days, till we reach 3"-5". I am loving the 7 day outlook temperature of in the 30's, which at this time of winter would be some of our coldest temps, and wind chills.
Robin, about my DD and her diet, she went thru some pretty intense sessions with her nutritionist about her diet. She called me last night telling me about her first pureed meal. She was pretty happy with it. I forgot to look in my settings on my Kindle last night, I am going to do it tonight, to see if all of my books are stored in there, that would make it a lot easier. I am giving Giver of Stars another chance, but now I have to hurry, as I think my time with it is coming down to the wire. I am liking it now more than at the beginning.
Gareth, I know I have read that book, but I just can't remember it, which is no surprise. When I used to read books, not the kindle, I would have the book on the treadmill at the Y, loved reading while walking. It sure helped pass the time! I have tried the kindle on there, but it seems like the printing is a bit smaller, so I quit. I just listen to music now, while people watching, and checking out the many TV's they have going.
Marsha, at least setting up an Ipad is not too time consuming. It didn't take me long, when I bought DH one, last year (stupid idea on my part!). We ended up selling it to DD2 for DGS for all of his school stuff. I was reading an article last night on FB, about all the property owners along the east side of the Bay, and how, with loosing so much shoreline to the Bay, are having to have people come in and redo the shoreline, with big rocks and filler, and it will end up costing them $20,000-$50,000!!! And they are expecting the Bay to rise again this year! So, so glad we do not live there!
Pinky, your back story to how you and your DH got to where you are today, is so very interesting!!! Now I can see how you have managed to stay ahead of the game, what with it being slowly incorporated into your business life. How is your forecast for temps? I am so happy with no bitter temps or bitter winds!! I hope it isn't the calm before the storm!!! If we can just get thru February, the rest will be a piece of cake!!! Your drive to town would be nice to walk, in the good weather, since it is so close, have you ever done that?
Carol, I use my note app every so often, I like having that. Most of the time I know that DD weight issue is all on her, but I feel bad too, that when I had her, I was one of those mothers, back in the 70's that did not have a clue about healthy eating. We ate the way I was raised, which was hearty! Lol, I look back at that now and cringe. Oh well, can't do anything about that. I sure hope that woman did not stay with that idiot that called her Ella!!! DH is getting a lot of stupid calls on his cell, and I hardly ever get any, so I wonder why he gets them all.
Grocery shopping was a big one, then to get them all upstairs!! After we had lunch, I took DH to visit our elderly friend over at the memory care unit, close to us. I saw him last fall, and seeing him yesterday, he looked like he aged 10 years! It is so sad, as he is 93, with his memory failing, but his vitals and organs are so healthy! He hardly did any talking. His wife was there, so we had a good time talking to her. We miss getting together with them so much. For all of you that are friends with me on FB, I posted a picture of them, I think it was 2 days ago.
DH has a dentist apt today. After that, we will run over to DB house, to check and see if I can shovel, hoping the snow let up for awhile then.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen - dd's weight is not on you. It is always tempting to blame the mother for everything but we are not the only influences in our childrens' lives. You have set a good example by being part of WW and taking steps to be healthy. If you insist on taking blame, you must also take credit for that.
Pinky - I found your backstory to be very interesting.
I gave up on Homegoing (audio) and downloaded The Stars are fire by Anita Shreve. She can always be counted on for a good story. Not much reading last night as the new season of TV shows started and dh wanted to watch a few he had recorded.

Thanks for mentioning our story interesting, after I posted I thought Maybe it was long and boring.Like there goes pinky on one of her long stories again. Really things have fallen in to place for us and we are blessed, of course hard work has helped it happen as well and I have DH to credit to keep me motivated as well. DH is really the model of the oldest child syndrome---very determined and going to make things happen. I am the baby in my family and go with the flow---LOL!!
Karen--our temps are mild for the next week or so and with a small chance of flurries off and on. Very foggy again this morning. I have walked to town but rarely do that for several reasons. Usually I have things to carry or I am in a hurry or both. Also we live on a very busy state highway and have many semi's and much traffic going so actually rather dangerous out there. It's not that there is a lot of big hills either but up and down so not always easy to see a person in advance. It is rare that anyone is walking in this side of town because of that. Now on the east side of town it gets very flat for 2 miles and many people take that path for walking. We are on the west side of town. Always amazes me how fast the terrain can change. Fun you were able to visit with your friends but sorry that the DH of the friends is failing so.
Marsha--I agree on Anita Shreve's books always being good--I will check into that one.
Carol---OMG that guy should be slapped up against the head for calling his wife Ella. I have never heard that name for elephant before.
I'm off to run some errands in an hour or two if the fog clears off a little better.

Pinky - perhaps you mentioned it in your story but I don't recall - do you come from a farm family as well?
I really think that kids who grow up on farms learn a different work ethic than those we raise in the city. They are not resistant to getting in there and getting the work done. I have noticed a big difference between our employees who were raised on farms vs city. We city kids tend to whine. And I say that as a true suburban raised person. JMHO.

We ended up with about 2” of snow so the roads weren’t too bad going to work this morning. Of course I don’t have far to go either. Light snow/freezing drizzle today and sounds like more snow again tomorrow. Glad it's my day off tomorrow with no plans on going anywhere.
Karen, I doubt you've read the book I just finished since it's only been out about a week or so. It's Diane Chamberlain's newest book.
Pinky, I enjoyed your backstory too. I don't find your stories boring at all! Good way to get to know you better!
Marsha, I've read several books by Anita Shreve. I'll have to check that one out since it doesn't sound familiar.
Adding to the conversation about Evernote. I like it to keep a lot of my recipes organized by category.
Back to work again later...

It's in the 40s today and the sun is finally out. We got some rain last night. It sounded like it was pouring down, but officially we got only 1/2 inch. Our town is building a new high school and the rain is setting back the construction. They want to move in mid-summer so the teachers can unpack everything and be ready when school starts. Now, they are changing the date for school starting. It's a huge job and can't be done in just a few days. Makes me glad I don't work for the school district anymore.
My DD started WW after DH and I had been doing it for a year. I guess she saw that it works and tried it.
Pinky, that was an interesting story.
I don't think I've read anything by Anita Shreve. I need to look her up.
Yes I've wondered if that couple stayed married. I'm trying to remember her name so I can google her.

Pinky, I really enjoy your stories and I’ve learned a lot from you about ranch life. I still think Pioneer Woman though, when I think of you! I like her show!
Marsha, I’ve read a few of Anita Shreve’s books. She’s very good as her writing style is much different than authors of “fluff” books. (that’s what I call the books where no thinking is involved!)
Karen, sorry to read about your visit with your friend. It’s very sad to watch someone who probably was very active and vibrant to just sit quietly with nothing to add to the conversation. However, I’m sure his wife really appreciated your visit! Probably more than you’ll ever know. Karen, please don’t blame yourself for others eating issues! Adult children make their own choices despite what parents say or think! Your going to WW was a great example! How many years have you been a member?
Hi Gareth & Carol!
Last night I finished The Alice Network. Now I’ll start Orphan Train. Has anyone read it?

Busy day today, went in early to work in case the secretary was late because a new client was coming in at 9. They came early, but DH was already on his way, and the secretary was there, I was already on my way too. Lots of stuff to do in the office too, and of course coming home and walking the dog. I am playing mah jongg tonight, I hope I can keep my eyes open.
I agree with everyone Karen about your DD, although I understand how you feel. The funny thing about my kids is that when they were really young, I would not give them a baby food like sweet potatoes because it was too high in calories. I was also not one who always gave them Cheerios to keep them quiet. They weren't big eaters, but when they went away to college they both gained weight. As they got older, they lost weight, my younger DS had done it various times, he lost in law school, then gained, then lost again before the wedding. My older DS was heavy until he was in his late 20's, he was starting to lose just by changing his food choices before he started dating his wife. She kept him on track to lose more, then of course they did the wedding diet.
Anngie, I read The Orphan Train a while ago, I remember liking it a lot.
Pinky, I also enjoyed your story, interesting how the business grew. I imagined your area as being really flat, surprised you have those hills.
Karen, I think once people get past 90, they seem to age more rapidly.
Carol, again NY and TX have the same weather, but we did start out at 21. It got up to 44 though.
Gareth, glad the snowfall wasn't a problem with getting to work. Worse than the snow, I hate when there is ice in parking lots. Hope you didn't have to deal with that.
