Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Snow again during the night, into today, but it is that light stuff. Same thing for tomorrow, then we are done with snow, for a few days. 33 degrees already, but will stay in the 30's all day.
Marsha, I was always hoping DD1 would take it upon herself and join me in doing WW, but that never happened. We can only do so much, right? Are you having any issues driving around in the light snow? Every morning there are accidents they are reporting, on Fox 11, then I go out into it later, and have no issues. Driving thru the Stadium district yesterday seemed so different than just a week ago, all is quiet around there now.
Pinky, we all truly love your stories about life on the range!!! As it is so different from our lives, we love hearing it. Even living in small town U.S.A., here in GB, we are citified, so please keep the stories coming, even if it is about the business side of it! (And it is a big business!!) I see what you mean about walking in your area. I loved walking, where we lived, except once we got snow for the season, there was no shoulder to the road, so nowhere to go when there would be semi's coming from opposite ways. Are you going to Vegas this winter? Don't you usually go there when NASCAR is there?
Gareth, I must have confused your book with the book Big Little Lies. I have no idea what I was thinking. Glad you have off today, is your area still getting that pesky snow? I am glad it is small amounts, but it stops and starts, so I want it done now. I am liking these warmer temps, compared to what we normally have this time of the season.
Carol, you are not close to Houston, where they had that huge explosion, are you? I looked through my list on my Kindle, and I too think I have not read Anita Shreve. I am going to look her up on Overdrive and see what I can get from her. Are you going today, or tomorrow, to see DGS?
Anngie, how many years have I been a WW member? Let's see, I think I started back in 2009. I know a few of the ladies on here have me beat. By their standards, I am a newbie! There have been times when I totally quit, but the last few years I have hung in there, paying every month.
Robin, I was shocked that someone who is 93, could age that fast, in just a matter of months! It hurts so, to see him like that, and so dependent on aides and his wife, when last summer they came to our apartment for cocktail hour, and a great visit. What are we going to do, with no football this weekend? Lol!!!
Have a morning off till I have to take DH to his first physical therapy since being in Rehab, but that is this afternoon. House cleaning is calling my name, along with some laundry. After therapy, we will again go to DB house to shovel the driveway. Or maybe wait till tomorrow, hoping the snow will have stopped by then.
We did our first rotisserie chicken last night in the air fryer, and loved it! It turned out perfect. Dinner tonight will be fish sticks, made from scratch, from frozen (thawed out) cod. Better take that cod out of the freezer, now that I think of it, or no dinner tonight!!
Better go, I hear DH stirring..... Have a great day everyone.

Seeing as I posted late yesterday, I think I covered everyone except for Karen's new post.
Karen, when you see the way some people drive around, it's no wonder they make the roads more hazardous. With Gareth's book, I thought it was strange that Lisa Scottoline used a similar title to a book that is now very popular, especially with the new Netflix (?) series. Big Lies in a Small Town always confuses me when I see people talking about it. So far, both of my libraries have that only on audio, which I don't really like to do. Good luck with DH's rehab, sounds like he is feeling OK, or have you just not been reporting?
2 weeks ago I started tracking because our Facebook Booklovers group was doing a challenge. When I weighed myself then, it had been quite a while, and I was very nervous to step on the scale, only to see that I had not gained the 10 pounds I was afraid I did, although of course there were pounds put on in the 6 years since I got to goal, more than I would have liked. In the 2 weeks, I have lost 3.5 lbs. Very happy with that. I really started being careful after new years, so might have lost since Jan 1, but I will start from the 10th. I am using iTrackbites, sorry Gareth, and am using their version of the Green plan. That is not the one where there is a huge list of 0 point foods. I would rather track things like chicken, fish and eggs, even my 2 points for yogurt in the morning, and have my 30 points, than to have access to the possibility of so many 0 point foods. Last night at mah jongg (I didn't do well at all), I only had some veggies, and fruit, no chips, popcorn, sweets. I have not been eating sweets anyway and my stomach has not bothered me as much. I finished The Confession Club last night when I came home. It is the 3rd in the Arthur Truluv series. There were some parts I thought were a little boring, I guess the same as I thought of Arthur Truluv, but really enjoyed the book. It's a quick read.

Robin - I've been back on track journaling since that challenge began and also at the same time my 2 high school bff's and I entered into a group chat support back on track thing where there can be quite a bit of texting going on. I lost 1.2 pounds the first week but I weigh daily and I am up .8 from there and official weigh in is tomorrow. I'm frustrated because I'm following the rules and this week even gave up chocolate and peanut butter and still I can't get anywhere. Where do I go from here?
Karen - there is sleet under the snow and I found walking to be slippery this morning but the roads seemed ok where I was. I almost wish it was 10 degrees colder so this would all come down as snow and be easier to remove.
No excitement from here. Just a quiet night. No plans for the weekend.

Marsha---I think it was you who asked me if I grew up on a farm?? Yes I did in fact it is less than a mile from where I live now. My parents were older as I was a tag along in the family, but by the time I was getting into high school age he was in the process of slowing down as he had 2 heart attacks--one when I was a 6th grader and another when I was in 8th grade. Back then there weren't stents and open heart surgeries to do and he had quite a bit of damage to his heart. Anyway he sold the cattle early on and started renting out his land. He continued with the seed business for some years after. Right after I graduated from high school he sold our farm place to my cousin and kept some of his land to rent out, which gave him income from that and the seed business. So I guess what I meant to say is that although I grew up on the farm and I knew about the hard work, I didn't necessarily grow up having to do a lot of farm work. The bonus of him keeping some of his farm land to rent to a neighbor is that we eventually bought if from him and we have been able to keep it in the family plus that land adjoins the land we bought with our farm. It was a win win situation---at the time dad sold his farm DH and I were dating but DH's future plans were not for sure. He did go to a vo-tech school for ag business but was not sure he would be able to start farming plus who knew for sure we would marry at that point.
Anngie--I will take that as a compliment as I love The Pioneer Woman also. On my bucket list is to go to Oklahoma to see her Mercantile and Lodge and hope she would happen to be there that day.
Robin--I would say it is more flat here than hilly. This is just some up and downs but enough up that you can't pass a car and would be surprised to pop over and see someone walking. We would be more considered to be flat ground with some rolling area's here and there and you don't get to far from us and then there are valley's so just gradual inclines. WTG on the weight loss and eating the good stuff last night.
Karen--Our weather sounds like yours so guessing it will keep coming your way, and ours sounds like it will be this way for the next week yet. Foggy, gloomy and mild, but the moisture in the air makes everything slippery until it warms enough and of course it cools right down in the early evening again so yes many accidents here too. Yes we will go to Vegas for Nascar again--I thought I had mentioned it awhile back. The Vegas race is 2-3 weeks earlier this year so will be Feb. 22-23. We have a trip from our seed company to go on which is in Las Vegas as well(wish it was somewhere else since we have been there so much). We leave Feb. 13th for that and be involved with that until Feb. 16th. With so little time in between but too much time to spend there when we have already seen so much we are going to rent a car and drive through the Grand Canyon and down into the Scottsdale and Mesa area taking a part of Route 66 through Kingman. On the way back we are going to spend a night in Lake Havasu. Should be fun and although familiar areas it will be a new adventure in between. That is why we didn't go to the car shows in Scottsdale this year as we combined it into one trip later on. No car shows however but that is okay. About the chicken in the air fryer--DD's family gave me a 5.8 qt one for Christmas and I have been using it quite a bit. I think it was just Monday of this week I put a whole chicken in it and it was amazing---I think the best I have ever had and it was so easy. Crispy and nice and brown on the outside and so moist---will for sure make it again soon.
I have a cut and color at 1:00 today so need to get some office work done for now---hope to check back later!

pinky, just want to do a quick reply, before my DH interrupts me for some reason: YES! You did mention all that about the Vegas trip, and all. Sorry, it was my having a senior moment that I did not remember you had mentioned it. That race track, or the Phoenix one are a few that I would like to go to. Also the tracks deep in the south. Your time to leave for Vegas will be here so fast!

Busy morning the usual for my day off. We got less than an inch of snow overnight. Sounds like now we're done with snow for a few days. 30's for the coming week. Unusual temps for January. Wonder what February will bring.
I’ve started Arrowood and got into it right away. It’s set in Iowa so it's interesting knowing the town but don’t think I’ve ever actually been there. I just googled it and was surprised to see it’s almost 173 miles away.
Anngie I read The Orphan Train quite a while ago but I remember I really liked it.
Karen, I've heard a whole chicken is so good in the air fryer. I haven't tried it in mine yet. I've loved everything so far though that I've made in my Ninja grill/air fryer. I like this air fryer so much better than one I had before or the one that's in my toaster oven. Yes, I have you beat being a WW member for longer. Since 1975!

I’m leaving soon for my cut and color. Necessary evil I guess at least for a while yet! The big snow storm we were supposed to get this weekend has changed to rain. Much too warm to snow - 40 degrees!
Pinky, yes, a compliment for sure as she’s one busy lady! Now for the next question - did DH grow up on a farm too?
Karen, sounds like DH is coming along quite well! That’s so good to hear. Now maybe I should get an air fryer too!
Robin, congrats on the 3.5 lbs.! Losses like that make you feel you’re on the right track. I’ve placed a hold on Overdrive for the Confession Club. I think I’m #7 so it’ll be a while.
Marsha, don’t give up! Remember it’s a cumulative effect so what we do for the first week isn’t always going to show results. Give it three more weeks of giving up certain foods!
Remember my mentioning my sister was told she had the start of COPD and was given an inhaler? Well she went to a pulmonary specialist this week and was told she doesn’t have the start of it, took the inhaler away and said she was fine! OMG!

Sorry Gareth! We crossed paths! 1975! That’s amazing! My cousin’s daughter just moved to Iowa. I think the closest large city is DesMoines. After having grown up near the Adirondack Mts. and then living in NC, I can’t wait to hear how she likes the west!

Anngie - thank you for reminding me about the delay in seeing results. I did change up my lunch today. I usually have a tuna wrap with tuna on a tortilla and a thin slice of cheese with lettuce. Today I had the tuna on a salad so I eliminated the cheese and tortilla points and added 2 for the salad dressing. And I remembered to bring my water cup back to work (I took it home to run it through the dishwasher after I got over my cold) so I'm going to work on drinking water this afternoon instead of tea. the weekend is coming. That is always tough. When I have no plans I stay home and when I am bored I nosh.

Karen--yes those are the two tracks DH likes. We gals always ask why we don't try a race track in a different city so we can see somewhere else for once but they really like LV the best and the transportation is so good for the race track there. They have heard negative reviews of transportation at the other sites. Plus DH and I have about a 2 month period that it works for us to go. I bet when I mentioned this before you were tied up with your DB's funeral and everything you had going on then and its hard to remember everything at that point. Gareth--I will look into Arrowhead. My sister lives at Pella Iowa which is SE of DesMoine. I am listening to Winter in Paradise right now and although it appears most of the story takes place on St JohnIsland the couple/family are actually from Iowa City. I too wonder what February will bring. Wow 1975----your are a most dedicated member and now employee---awesome! I graduated from high school in 1975 and that seems like forever. Anngie---good news on your sister---what the heck was that about with the first Dr. ? Yes DH grew up on a farm as well. His dad was starting to get into more of building bins at the time and didn't have a lot of land and DH's grandfather was retiring but DFIL was seeing the money more in the bin building at the time so they rented there land out and sold their machinery so DH was kind of on his own for getting started. DH did end up renting their farmland as well so that worked nicely. Today we own his grandfathers land and DS#1 owns DFIL and DMIL's farm---land and buildings. That land is 5-6 miles from us on the other side of town. Marsha--don't give up

SO interesting about your farm history Pinky. I think that because work never ends on a farm, especially with animals, there is an explanation for the different work ethic, you just can't leave it.
Marsha, were you using the 1 point wraps? Maybe that with a slice of Velveeta, which is only 1 point, would be good too. I know I used to joke about people saying they had a big salad, but when I had a big salad I did feel more full for fewer points.
Anngie, glad you ended up with rain instead of snow. We will have rain too, and it will be relatively warm, 49 tomorrow. It will be in the 40's through Tuesday. As long as I don't freeze while walking the dog, I am happy.
Gareth, have not heard of that book, maybe I will look into it. I started a mindless Nancy Thayer last night, I might stick to that.
Anngie, do you have a NY Public Library card? There is a 6 week wait now for Confession Club on that, and that is at the most. If people return early, it takes less time. People mistakenly think that is only for NY City, because of the main 42nd St library, but it is for all of NY State, you can apply online and then email them a copy of your driver's license when they ask.
Typically stressful but moderately busy day at work. Relaxing now but making a sheet pan chicken and veggie dish for dinner. I will see if DH wants couscous, but that's easy. I use the boxed mixes.
