Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now.
This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 32 right now, light snow expected today, then the snow machine is turned off!! Totaling up the daily snow fall would have to be around 6". Yes, Gareth, I am wondering too, if the other shoe will drop, come Feb 1st, as these temps have been way too warm for us in January.
Robin, congrats on the weight loss! A great start! DH just started his therapy with the clinics therapist, yesterday, and he was feeling it last night. I love making that recipe I have for roasted veggie's with chicken thighs, it is so good. There are potatoes in with the veggie's, so couscous would not be needed with that recipe.
Marsha, no way am I going to wish for colder weather! I have been out and about every day, in that goofy snow, and not once was I worried about slipping. It was doing a heavy mist yesterday afternoon, as we were traveling around Howard, but I still preferred that over the colder temps.
Pinky, with your air fryer, did you get the equipment to use it as a rotisserie? We have, and used it for the prime ribs at Christmas, a beef roast, and then the other day, a whole roaster chicken, which have all turned out amazing. You reminded me that I have to call my hair salon, thank you! I am thinking of looking for a place closer to home, as I am finally tired of running up to the area where we used to live.
Anngie, lol, we must all be on just about the same hair schedule!! I am so happy for you, as to your 40 degrees and rain, instead of snow!!! Hasn't this been a strange winter? About having an air fryer, I love having it, as everything so far has turned out so good, I just wish I had room to store it right on the counter, and not have to move it back and forth to the pantry. I am shocked to her about your DS!!! How can that be??? Was that actually a doctor who diagnosed her with the COPD? I would love to know the whole store about this, as it is hard to imagine this being misdiagnosed!
The big recipe book that I paid extra for, when buying our air fryer, has so many great recipes in it, and one of them I used last night, for fish sticks. It was very good, and of course as the first time we saw something's to adjust the next time, but otherwise we are having so much fun with the air fryer. Just for fun, today I am going to try making a cherry pie in it. I guess since I am not using the oven much right now, I should use the self cleaning function on it, as it needs a cleaning. A quiet weekend here for us, our son in law will go over to DB today, as DD told me the plows went thru yesterday and put lots of big chunks at the end of the driveway's, so her DH will go and snow blow DB. Otherwise I was going to go shovel his driveway, but not if there is all those chunks. We will probably take a ride over tomorrow, to check on the house, and get the mail.
Finished The Giver of Stars, by JoJo Moyes last night. So glad I decided to go back to it, after almost giving it up. A very good read. Am starting After You, by her, but for some reason I thought I had already read it. Will see.
Have a nice day.

Anngie, I did not read carefully enough yesterday, good thing your sister got a new diagnosis. My DH uses and inhaler sometimes. He has always had allergies, and had a wheeze. When he was supposed to have shoulder surgery, the surgeon wouldn't do it because he said the doctor who cleared him didn't say anything about a wheeze. We said, duh, he always wheezes. However, since he used the inhaler, which he rarely uses now, he does not wheeze. And, they never told him he had COPD or anything near it.
Karen, glad you love your air fryer so much. I just decided, especially after getting the one I ordered, that I just do not need another gadget. Glad you enjoyed Giver of Stars. It was, for me, not a book that I would call a 5, but good enough that it was definitely worth reading. Is After You the Jojo Moyes book? I liked that one a lot, although didn't think it was your usual. I have to figure out something to read today. I have my book club read, but it's not pulling me in enough to want to read much more. And I have some fluff books. I have already read 6 books in January that are worth putting on my Pinterest list. Also besides the real junk, a Nancy Thayer book, a sweet story about Nantucket, and a Robyn Carr, the newest Sullivan's Crossing book. I will have to check my holds, and see if I will come up any day, or maybe even did overnight, who knows.
It is 44 degrees and raining here. I went out around 10 to the cleaners and a small supermarket run, and it was drizzly, but it is supposed to start pouring around 1, but will be 51 degrees. I think our grand total snow fall for the month of January will be 2 inches.

Busy morning at work. More new people than usual. Our territory manager showed up which means it’s always later getting out of work since she likes to talk after everyone leaves. Home for breakfast and my walk. Going to HyVee shortly for groceries.
Karen, do you have room for a cart or a stand in your kitchen to set your air fryer on? Luckily I have room on the end of my countertop for mine so it doesn’t have to be moved. Like yours it’s heavy.
Anngie, good news about your sister but how in the world did she get so misdiagnosed? Did you see my answer yesterday to what you said about looking up the book I’m listening to? I’m liking it but if I had a nickel for every time she mentions the name of the town I’d be rich!
Robin, hate when I’m between books and don’t know what to read next. For once I have several waiting.

Gareth, I am going to come up for 3 books within the next week, 1 which I might not even be in the mood for, Maybe You SHould Talk to Someone. Right now that one might hit too close to home for me with all the stress I am under. Behind Her Eyes should be any day, because I am next, and also Dear Edward. I can always read the fluff books I have. I actually have half way decent ones from the library, not the junk from Bookbub freebies, which are sometimes surprisingly good. I can start Beneath The Scarlett Sky, or The Paper Wife. I think I will do that, seeing as it is pouring rain right now and I won't walk the dog until around 5, from the way the weather map looks.
Gareth, do you think you have a lot of returnees to WW with the change to the option of 3 different plans? I think some people might have left because of Freestyle. Just like me, I am sure that there are others who would rather count points than have quite so many 0 point foods.

I nixed both The Paper Wife and Beneath A Scarlet Sky. The Paper Wife started out in China, and my book club read is Korea, so I am afraid I will mix the characters up with all the strange names. Beneath A Scarlet Sky is 525 pages, so decided not to start that. I will just read the fluff book I have, or read a bit more of the book club read. It hasn't grabbed me yet, and this 3rd chapter is 53 minutes long, so didn't want to start it. I don't want to get bored and mixed up by this book. It is not that smoothly written so far.

I could have sworn I posted Friday morning, but I when I went back in the evening, I couldn't find it. Probably hit the wrong button.
We went to DD's today. We met them for lunch, then went to their house. We played with DGS a lot. He changes every time we see him. He is learning more words, but we don't always know what he was saying. Of course, his parents do. He loves to play with his blocks and his play kitchen and read books. We went outside and wrote with chalk on the patio. DH pulled him around the block in his wagon. We had dinner with them, too, and left after DGS went to bed. DH and DSIL were watching a basketball game that DH wanted to see the end of.
I will have a busy day tomorrow-church, a wedding shower and a retirement party.
I'm between books, too. I need to go to the library.
Gareth, don't you get more people joining WW after the holidays? It seems like people always resolve to lose weight and declutter their houses. It's when I can find some bargains on books at thrift stores.
We are supposed to have more rain tomorrow. It wasn't very cold today, but windy so we needed our coats when we were outside.
I had a cut and color yesterday, too. It feels so good.
Our DIL has an air fryer. The way you all are talking about it makes me interested in one.

Ok, I could have sworn I posted something late Friday morning. In the evening when I checked the site, I couldn't find it. I must have hit the wrong button.
I had a cut and color, too, on Friday. I kept forgetting to call for an appointment and when I did finally call, she was very busy. I ended up going almost a week longer than I usually do. It feels so good to get it done.
DH and I went to DD's this morning. We met them for lunch and then went to their house. We played with DGS for a while, then when he took his nap, we just visited with them and watched sports. After DGS had his nap, we played with blocks and colored and went outside and played and read books and probably did other things. We ate dinner with them and left after DGS went to bed. It was fun. He is talking more though we don't always understand him, but his parents do. Once he was asking for something in the kitchen and I couldn't figure it out so he raised his arms so I would pick him up and pointed at the cabinet. I opened it and there were the goldfish crackers he wanted so we did communicate.
DD has been hitting the gym for several weeks now. Today was the first time she said that she was trying to lose weight, too. I am glad she is doing that.
Aren't there always more people joining WW after Christmas?
I have a busy day tomorrow-church, bridal shower and a retirement party. We are supposed to get rain tonight and it should be up to 60 in the afternoon.
I'm between books right now, too.

Good morning. It is 33 out right now. The weather guy had a shocking bit of trivia; he said last year on this date, the low in the early morning hour, was -23!!!!! I remember those terrible bitter cold days, and that old Farmer's Almanac had predicted basically the same thing for this winter. I am so happy we are at January 26th already, so maybe it won't get that bad...(fingers crossed!!)
Robin, as I am getting further into After You, I have to say, The Giver of Stars, once I gave it a good try, was better than After You. Yes, After You is JoJo Moyes. What is the title of the Nancy Thayer book, about Nantucket? I am still amazed at the list of holds I have, that are still so far out from coming in. I think there is one, that is the closest to coming in, with me being #11 of 3 books. Lol, speaking of changing the plan, I changed to green from blue.
Gareth, I remember, the very first time I joined WW, was the 2nd week of January. The meeting I went to, was over in a town that was a bit out of my way, on a Tuesday evening. I was at the end of a very long line, waiting to get weighed in. I found out by the next week, that the church we eventually joined had a meeting there every Thursday evening, so I switched to that one, which was not quite so busy, but busy enough. Then over the years I have seen, while still going to meetings, how it ebbs and flows throughout the year. Summer was always the worst time for attendance, back when I was going. Ah....the good old days!!! Unfortunately I have nowhere or nothing to put that big air fryer on, so I am fine with having to move it back and forth.
Carol, I am glad you had so much fun with DGS. I loved the kids at that age, but of course I love the age they are at now, it is fun talking to them about what they are doing at school and stuff like that. All 4 grands will be here Saturday night for a slumber party. That ought to be a hoot! I see I will need to visit the hair salon soon, also. Your day today sounds super busy!!! Have fun!
I see DD2 sent us an invite to dinner tonight. Will have to see if DH is up for such a thing, as he has not been away from home for too long yet. We do have to run to DB house to check on it, so that would work out good. We are trying to get used to football being over, that always seems hard to do, that first week the Packers are all done playing.
Made a recipe from the big recipe book for the air fryer last night, that we think we got sick from. It is a chicken thigh recipe, using tomato paste as a spread on the thigh's, then a spice mixture of turmeric, cumin, and a package of dry Italian seasoning sprinkled on the thighs. It was a very different taste for us, and within 20 minutes both of us had upset stomachs. Oh well, it had sounded good when I was looking at all the recipes. Otherwise that air fryer cooked the thighs perfectly.
Time to get more coffee......have a very nice Sunday everyone.

Carol, sounds like you enjoyed your day with DGS et al. I can't wait until I have that to think about and put on my calendar. I can't remember how far you are from them. I was thinking it was 2 hours, but maybe not that far it sounds like.
Karen, I know what you mean about the end of football season. You mean you are not staying home this afternoon to watch the Pro Bowl, lol. Let your DD know that you won't be able to stay that long maybe. I am sure your DH just wants to know that he will be comfortable. The Nancy Thayer book was Let It Snow. I just wasn't really in the mood for anything else. She is one of my fall backs when I am in that kind of mood. Another one is Raeanne Thayne. Those are the milder romances that I don't think would bother you.
We're at 42 here now, going up to only 45. It looks like the sun is peaking out a bit. Nice for a January day, according to statistics though they say our average high for January is in the high 30's, and February into the 40's, but I feel that we often have more snow and colder weather in February. About 3 or 4 years ago we had below zero temps around Valentines Day, but it is highly unusual for us ever to go below zero. We don't even go into the teens or single digits very often, so for those who complain about NY winters, I honestly don't think it's that bad.
The one book I cam up for is one that I probably don't want to read, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. It's about a woman's experience with therapy. I did not get the thriller yet. I will straighten up and organize today, and read about an hour of my book club book. If I get more caught up in it, maybe more.

Karen, news said we've had 25.6" of snow this year. At this time last year we had 19.0". I thought it was last January when we had all the record breaking low temps and snow so thought maybe it wasn't until February. After what you said maybe it was the last week of January. The rest of January this year is going to be in the 30's every day.
Meeting DS and family for lunch to celebrate both DGS's birthdays. Oldest was 23 on the 17th and youngest 21 on the 21st. Hard to believe they're both that old. Weren't they just babies?! Time flies by too fast and even faster the older I get.
Yes, January is a busy month at WW with all the New Year's resolutions. Glad our location is a studio not a church.

A beautiful sunny day----he have not seen the sun for at least a week so it is nice to have that blue sky shining down on us. It has been very foggy here this last week and rather depressing so hopefully I will get some energy back. We have 30 degree temps forecasted for the next week with small chances of snow on several days. A nice way to end January.
Karen---I did not get any accessories with my air fryer but I have looked at a few on amazon. Enjoy your evening at DD's.

Sorry--I was interruped and hit post my mmistake so will try to finish my post.
Robin---you will be holding that baby in your arms before you know it. So exciting!! You mentioned you are under a lot of stress, not sure if you have mentioned why or not----just be sure to take care of yourself. If you want to share or vent you know we are always here for you and if not thats fine too---just know I am thinking of you and wishing all good things.
Carol---that is weird--who knows what always happens when on is connected to the internet. Main thing is it sounds like you had a grand time with DGS---so fun!
Gareth---that does seem like a lot of snow---but if you would see our snowpiles here they are huge. These mild temps we are having though I can see the snow shrinking a little----not so much in our yard because of all the trees but out in the open you can tell. Enjoy the birthday party!!!
I am hoping to read some today and just doing some odd things. We were up early yesterday morning to make a 2 hour drive to watch DGS who is 10 play basketball which started at 8:30. We then ate a late breakfast with them and we had to hurry back for our DF's fathers celebration of life. He passed away on Tuesday and he had stated he didn't want a normal funeral, just a gathering of friends to remember him. So that is what they did in a community hall in a nearby town. From there the farewell party moved back to our little town that the decesased and his wife drove over a couple times a week to have a drink at the bar in the back of our local restaurant/steakhouse. Everyone had a drink or two to toast his life and more visiting with friends and family. Very different for our area to celebrate ones life like that but his wishes her granted
