Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. Staying at our new normal for winter temps. I could get used to this! 27 early this morning, then going up a bit. Am loving these NOT below 0 temps!
Robin, of course the commercial of the dog was great, what with it coming from UW Madison. And heart breaking for me, as my brother who died from cancer nickname all these years since we were little was Scout. I liked the MC Hammer one, the guy with the orange hands. Otherwise from what I saw, none other jumped out at me. I really did not like the 3 people talking with those fake boston accents, with the car that parks itself. Your project for that multi million dollar account sounds interesting.
Gareth, I chose during half time to go to bed with my Kindle. My DH was watching in his room and was shocked, so I went in and watched some of it. I sure am glad we did not have kids here. I think those performers do so much dancing and all that, since they are not really good singers. (just my opinion) Isn't that strange about the taco salad? I made taco casserole, and we had the left overs yesterday for lunch and afterwards I felt like I could have been getting the flu, was scared. I can not get sick, especially today with DH having 3 appointments, and he is not driving yet. Thank goodness it has gone away.
Marsha, yes, the game was very good. I guess from what I read afterwards, the 49ers had a bunch of sore loosers. That's too bad. That quarterback for the Chiefs couldn't be more down to earth. Good guy. I like the 2 ingredient pizza. While mixing it, I add some Italian seasonings. It bakes just like regular pizza crust. We had said if the Packers were going to the SB, we were going, but wow, I am happy they did not go, because when it came down to it, I would not want to spend that much money!! Amazing how expensive it is.
Pinky, I agree with you, the game was better than we have seen for years, the half time left a lot to be desired. They should just get rid of doing a show. Did you see the opening, with that boy running with the football? I thought that was the best thing!! As I mentioned, we did not win any money, but found out last night that DBIL (who got us our numbers) won $700. The thing is, he spent $400 to get that $700. I could not stick out $400!!! Congrats to your DH!!!! I hope you guys do something fun with that money.
Carol, the accents were what I did not like too, with that car commercial. Thank you for your review of American Dirt, I think I will pass on that one.
Anngie, you and I think the same. For one thing that half time show....yes the dancing was too provocative for that time of day, but the singing! Either you could not understand what they were saying, or it was hard to hear them. Just not good, no matter what media says. I thought it was so neat that the Chiefs just layed back and boom came back in the 4th quarter, while the 49ers had already thought the game was theirs.
I got all the vacuuming done yesterday and promptly told DH that the minute we get my DB inheritance, I am buying a robot vacuum cleaner. My back just can't handle the amount I have to do. Then not feeling well, that didn't help.
DH has 2 big doctor apts today. This morning is x ray of the back (his surgery site), then to see the back surgeon, then we have to go to city hall to fight a parking ticket he got in December for parking by DGD school to just drop her off before school, then this afternoon he has his chest x ray of his lungs, then a Pulmonary function test, then will see the lung doctor. I had, on Sunday stopped at a bakery in a small town we go thru on our way to visit our elderly friend and bought a big beef pot pie so we will have that when we finally get home. Yesterday I made a german chocolate cake, using all the alternative ways to make it, with using unsweetened applesauce, instead of oil, then egg whites instead of eggs. It tasted really good. I cut it all up last night and put most of it in a freezer container to freeze till all the kids come here on the 15th, as the sleep over has been rescheduled to that date.
Better get moving.....have a wonderful day everyone. All you lurkers stop on in and say HOWDY!!!

Karen, good luck with DH's doctor's appointments. I so agree about the mild weather. It is drizzly here this morning, but it wasn't bad enough for me to put my waterproof parka on, and it supposed to get into the 50's later. Let us know what you think of that roomba. Not sure how it would really work here, and I have a light weight stick vacuum that I use a lot, rather than taking out the big vacuum, which really is very heavy and hard to maneuver. Of course my DH picked it out, not that he ever uses it. We have the one with the big ball, and it is not easy to use.
I just do not know what happened in Iowa yesterday with those caucuses, and if they will ever get the vote. I really don't like the whole idea of it, the amount of time that people have to spend at the caucuses just makes it that some people will go, and some won't want to bother. It's one thing to walk in and use a voting machine, and there are never long lines for primaries, and spend the hours at a caucus. At least the field has narrowed.
I am reading Dear Edward, but was half reading and half keeping an eye on The Bachelor. I think I am getting totally tired of even considering that a guilty pleasure. It seems to be such a joke lately. Either someone is crying, or they are filming them kissing. How can one guy have a "cocktail party", and end up kissing almost every girl he spends a few minutes with.

From what I have read we are in the minority of not being crazy about the halftime show. It is getting fabulous reviews all over the media. Funny that we are almost all in agreement it was not appropriate (although I think JLo's show without the skimpy costume and choice photography would have been amazing). Also now that they have explained the symbolism of the singers in the cages I think I appreciate it a little more. Funny that I just overheard one of my male coworkers tell another that he didn't like the halftime show.
Also it seems like that boston accent car commercial was very popular. Maybe you have to be from New England to appreciate it.
Karen - best of luck on all the doctor visits today and also fighting that ticket.
Robin - I am not surprised that they had that mess in Iowa with trying to do this via ap. I was just reading an article where they said there was no training on the ap when they did their caucus training and then some folks sat on hold trying to call in their results forever and another guy who just drove the results over to the party headquarters and they wouldn't let him in. Looks like a complete mess.
Anngie - I read The Unlikely Pilgrimage... I don't remember much about it so that makes me think I liked it but didn't love it.
I think I'm finally approaching the end of Sold On A Monday. Thank goodness. I'm ready for something else.
Not much going on here. dd called last night and most of the conversation was about the horses. She got another blue ribbon on Saturday at the show so she didn't ride on Sunday because she is 3 points from moving up to the next level and something about wanting her to stay at her level because next year they think she might qualify for nationals...it seems a complicated system.

It certainly feels more like winter here with it being in the teens last night and single digits this morning. Actually even the 20's with the wind yesterday was chilling but actually warmer temps than normal and so nice to not be living in the fog and gloom everyday. While the sun is not shining bright it is clear and a blue sky is peaking out in places where the clouds are not. High of 18 today is it and then 20's the rest of the week. Possible snow on Sunday so I WILL NOT complain if it is cooler.
Anngie---I have not read either of those books, however they have both been on my TBR list for a very long time.
Robin---that sounds like quite a project you are working on---very interesting and intense. Sounds kind of legal for me and yet something I could see me liking to indulge in like that---I like a good challenge like that. I guess it would be kind of legal since you are in a lawyers office--LOL!!! When I worked at the bank I did do some teller work but worked more with the accounting part of it and I really liked it. In a small town bank like ours you have to be a jack of all trades with your responsibilities, however you did work more in one area.
Karen--I did see the opening with the boy bringing in the football--that was great. I also liked the tribute to former players and the 3 veterans that were given recognition. My favorite commercial was the Cool Ranch Doritos one where the older and younger cowboy did their dance competition to the song Old Town Road in what looked like they were going to have a shoot down. The older cowboy being Sam Elliott and I loved when his mustache even danced but his horse shook his head no. I have watched it several times since as it just makes me laugh. I guess it is the country in me. Hope your DH's appointments go well.
Marsha--You DD is doing great with the horse show competitions. So cool that she has such a knack for it when she didn't grow up riding.
DH and DS are at a tech meeting this morning for learning more about the planter and what all it can do and then they have a few other stops after so will be gone most of the day. I will still have DS#2 here and our hired man at noon but will make something really quick and get a bunch of things done today around the house without too many interruptions. I didn't get much done yesterday with different things that came about and then going to DF's for coffee---and of course I stayed and talked longer than I should have. Better get busy instead of just talk about it!!

Busy morning getting laundry and some things done around here. I have a haircut before work. Nice time with family last night. My stomach had finally settled down by then so I could enjoy my dinner. I hadn't eaten much all day so I had no trouble cleaning my plate. They have the best lasagna which is what I had along with garlic bread.
Karen, hope it's good news with all of DH's appointments today. A lot in one day.
Robin, my robo vac is a Shark/Ninja. It's vacuuming downstairs now. I have quite a few Shark/Ninja products and love them all.
Anngie, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is different but I really enjoyed it. I see I have Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy in my library but that one I don't really remember. Actually I was surprised I even had it and had read it.
Pinky, thanks for the recommendation of Turn of the Key. I'll have to look that one up.
Marsha, I'll have to look up Sold On A Monday too.
Carol, after your review and from what I've heard of American Dirt I'm going to pass on that one.

Upper 30’s here today but snow/sleet coming our way Thursday and Friday.
I just got back from having the MRI done so we’ll see. The appointment with the doctor isn’t until the 20th. Now I’m on my way to the dentist to have another impression taken for the crown implant. Heaven knows what happened to the first impression. This has been a long, drawn-out process.
I’m smiling over the comments of the car commercial and Boston accents! I read that the actors in this commercial are from Boston, but of course, they’re over emphasizing their accents! Marsha, you HAVE to be from New England to appreciate it! We know Boston accents when we hear one, right Robin! lol
Karen, good luck with the appointments!
I’m almost done with AJ Fikry and just might pick up Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.

I liked The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. The Love Song of Queenie Hennessy is about the woman Harold went to see. I haven't read it.
Anngie, I have had 2 tooth implants. Yes, it is a long process.
I had forgotten about the commercial with Sam Elliott. I like that one, too. In our mostly conservative town, the prevailing feeling is they didn't like the half-time show. I remember reading somewhere that Jennifer Lopez isn't a very good singer. Of course, I imagine most of the people who watched weren't interested in her singing, more on the dancing.
One of the young mothers at church and her 2 kids have the flu. I have to wonder if they got the shot or if it's a different strain.
Right now it is 42 degrees. The weathermen are practically guaranteeing snow and/or ice tomorrow. It's not supposed to get down to freezing until about 6 tomorrow morning. So glad I don't have any place I need to be then.

The saga of the superbowl halftime show continues. We have a management meeting weekly which consists of me and 4 men. This morning someone started talking about the halftime show. After the conversation continued I mentioned that it was making me uncomfortable and I would have to report all of them to HR (which is one of my responsibilities). It continued and I had to comment 2 more times before it stopped - I was ready to walk out. So our salesman (who was in the meeting) just commented to me that I was not the only one uncomfortable with that discussion, clearly he was not happy with that show either. We agreed it was all about the camera angles.

I am taking a few second break to say hello. I have to rush to get to the post office with an overnight. Had our office lunch today and I had a very good salad, I like their balsamic dressing, which I add on my own.
Anngie, my DDIL is from outside of Boston, her dad has a heavy accent, but because her mom is from NY, she doesn't have that Boston accent. Her mom's accent is more NY than mine.
It is 54 here now, but we will be only 40 tomorrow.

Marsha, good for you for speaking up. Why didn't the salesman say something, too? Just curious, but glad you spoke.
