When you are having an off day in general how do you pick yourself up and improve your day?

take it easy and mosey along. If the mood is bad I might exercise, go online to check social media, get busy doing something.

brood a bit, read a bit, maybe go out in the sunshine, read a bit moore, might soak in the tub with a book...don't have a LOT of days like that, thankfully.
I am lucky that usually I can snap myself out of whatever mood hits....not everyone is that lucky.

I don't really have off days lately, knock on wood. If I keep up with my "self-care" routine I stay in a good place mentally and emotionally. I will have brief moments when a negative thought wants to take over, but I can think my way out of it pretty quickly. Also, I try not to beat myself up when I do have an emotional reaction; it's not bad and character flaw, just past conditioning that will always try to sneak up on me.

I think of what could have triggered it. If it's a concern about a health issue or a friend or family member, a negative interaction with another person, something I ate or drank....? Then I pray for direction. If it's the weather I exercise indoors. Sometimes I wind up listening to music, reading, or chatting with a friend.

Usually a good chat with a friend can help wonders. Going to the gym always results in feeling good that I went. Though I confess I do allow negative thought to overwhelm me at times and it's something I'm working on. Wish I was more like lani, and just allowed shit to roll off my back. Interestingly, my counselor has been helping me with this and she handed me a sheet of paper which was basically Beck's Thinking Mistakes, which is apparently an element of all CBT. I knew it immediately when I saw it!

surfgirl, this is a recent development that is sixty-six years in the making. I still have the occasional melt-down, but I'm not paralyzed and bewildered like before. It helps to see the cause and my reaction patterns. I give all credit to CBT and meditation. And a really patient husband.
