Whether you are regular poster or a lurker, we encourage you to talk with us. We do talk about books, but also about our lives, and Weight Watchers. We are women who are spread around the country, and eventually you will learn you we are, and what books we like to read. Don't be intimidated, just pop in and tell us who you are, and what you are reading now. This is a thread we had on the WW 50 Year old board, so even though most of us have moved beyond our 50's, I am keeping it here. Some prefer to post on Facebook, but for those who may also like to post on something that resembles our old format, I decided to start this. Although we were brought together by our love of books, and we love to share our ideas about books and authors, our friendship has grown, and we know a lot about each others lives. We are spread across the country, and that adds a bit of interest as well, learning about other people's way of life through the "book" they write on the thread.

Good morning. 12 degrees here, with it getting in the 20's, just like yesterday. Expecting the snow to start late tonight thru tomorrow, with 4"-7" expected.
Robin, when we get rain in the winter, it seems so chilly then. You almost wish it was snow, instead of rain, because of that chilliness. Congrats on the loss!!! That is usually how my losses go. I am so sorry for your DF DH. Good luck to him, in his surgery and recovery. Also, congrats on winning at cards.
Marsha, with tracking, that is strange that you are not loosing anything. How many weeks has it been that you have not lost? Good luck today with your weigh in, maybe it will surprise you. With me, once I get into the WW program, I do need to exercise to go with the food part of it, as I think it helps me mentally, with keeping on the right track of the food side of it. Speaking of organizing taxes, that is what I have to do, with ours. I have been so focused on DB, and all his life, that I left ours sit, thanks for the heads up.
Pinky, I am sorry about that young man, my thoughts are with all of you. Unbelievable that he went so long with it, and no symptoms! My DB (who passed away), had that tumor on his brain, and we all remember when he had a car accident, in a town around 25 miles south of us, where he blacked out, and did not know what happened, with that being around 2 years ago, so we blame that tumor on that accident. So sometimes there are little signs that we pass off as something else.
Gareth, the Realtor we are using is the Realtor that sold our house. We found our apartment by ourselves. That is why he has not seen our apartment till Thursday. Are you supposed to get the amount of snow that we are predicted to get? It has been pretty nice for the last couple weeks, with no snow, I worry that this snow tomorrow will turn on the snow machine, lol.
Anngie, omg, your weather sounds really crappy!!! Good luck with that rain switching to snow, hope you all don't get a lot of icing. How long is your snow storm supposed to last, or is it over by now? I hope you didn't get the predicted 8"!!
Carol, yes, your weather sounds good, I would take that 52 and sunny any day in our winter. I think my brother in law, down in McAllen mentioned it was in the 70's there. That I could take too, lol.
About the house, and getting a second opinion, we will not. All of us in the family know, with the house in the condition it is in, there is no way we will get any more than that. I refuse to try and put the price any higher, then have it sit on the market. That is what our realtor explained to us, and he also gave us the name of another realtor that works at a different company, who has a small house on the market right now, but that house is move in ready, and it being a small house like DB, the sellers are insistent on listing it for around $8,000 higher than what would be realistic so there it sits, not being sold. We just want it gone. We knew the first time we walked into it, that the only thing that would sell it would be the land. I am so done with running over there, to check on it. The realtor and his brother told us that until the house goes thru the sale, they will take care of all the maintenance, such as clearing off the driveway. You all might think it is the best to get a second opinion, but I am comfortable with doing it this way. You have to realize the amount of money an investor/flipper would have to put out to get it in livable condition. I truly value your opinions and always look forward to all you have to say. I am going to get over there later today, and take pictures of all the rooms, and the outside, as I want to be able to compare it to how it turns out with their work. I will post those before pictures to all of you that are on facebook, so you can see how bad it is.
We talked with my DS yesterday about the house and the price and she was good with it, as she knows how it is. That made me happy that she is with us on it, but I kind of thought she would be. We will be calling DB later today about it. I am sure he will be fine with it too, as he mentioned to DH recently that it would maybe end up being sold as a tear down.
Almost done with Summer of 69, and glad of it. Not the best book I've read.
Have a nice day everyone.

Karen, glad you are all in agreement. I did not realize it was a 1 bedroom house, and yes, even a 2 bedroom is not that desirable. I can't remember the term that the appraisers use for that. Once you get to 3 bedroom, the square footage of a house makes more of a difference, but at 2 bedrooms or less, it is just a negative because it is not considered a family house. When you consider that the difference you would get would be divided by 3, in the long run it was not much, and let them take it over asap.
We had a power outage yesterday that lasted from 2:15 until midnight. DH and I went out for a delicious dinner, and managed to be sitting in the warm restaurant for 2 1/2 hours. We ordered salads first, after eating those we put in our order for the main course, then DH had a creme brulee and I had my herbal tea. It wasn't like I could come home and have tea. There was a woman playing a guitar and singing a wide variety of songs, so very enjoyable, and it was right in town, less than a mile from us, so nice and relaxing. When we came home we bundled up in bed. I fell asleep right before the power came back on, but the lights in the bedroom were on so they woke me up shortly after they came back on. I had to go down and get everything turned off too because of the dog. I could have really done it with Alexa, we have the smart devices, but DH was sleeping and I would have woken them. All those silly smart devices and low voltage bulbs must be keeping our electric use down. Our budget amount is being lowered, and not even as much as I think it should be.
I finished reading Dear Edward. It is a sad book, but very thought provoking and emotional. Edward, at 12 years old, is the sole survivor of a plane crash. Now I have to finish my book club read, The Court Dancer.

Home from work and just had breakfast. Drinking a last cup of coffee before I walk. Waiting since DH is using my walking track now. Only 3Âş when I got up. Last night's moon was so gorgeous. So big. Did anyone see it?
Karen, yes we're getting snow too but sounds like you're getting more. 2-6" predicted here. Sounds like a good decision then on DB's house after you explain it. It'll be a big relief for you for sure to have to not have to deal with it any longer.
Robin, that was a long power outage. Always hate losing power especially in the winter when it's cold.
DH just finished his walk so it's my turn now. I'm enjoying A Fire Sparkling so that'll keep me interested while I walk.

Karen, you should do what you're comfortable with. That is what important. I know you will be glad you have all that over with. It's not easy after a loved one passes.
I know several of mentioned not liking going to the eye doctor. I don't like picking out new frames. I have such a hard time deciding what looks good on me. I usually let the employee tell me what she likes. When I got my last frames, I was going to have a friend go with me, but she had a family emergency and couldn't go. The good thing is that I wear contacts so the glasses are for backup and I rarely wear them out.
It's not too cold today and sunny. We don't anything going on this weekend.
Robin, sorry about the electricity going out.

The storm is over finally. We probably got 5” of snow on top of all that rain. But of course, today is sunny and frigid.
Karen, I don’t blame you at all, because as I said yesterday, if the house doesn’t sell, you still need to heat the house and pay taxes on it. And another realtor will charge you their fee as well. Bird in hand type of thing. Glad to hear your DB & DS are on board too. Makes it so much easier. Sorry to hear Summer of 69 wasn’t all that good. It was on my list to read.
Robin, we had power outages all around us but not us! And here we put in a generator and haven’t used it yet! That was about three years ago.
Gareth, no I didn’t see last night’s moon but tomorrow nights moon should be neat as well. It’s the first supermoon of 2020. I think I read this on FB. I hope I remember to check it out.
Carol, I never know what frames look good on me either. I’m not even sure I like what I have now!
I just downloaded The Art of Mending by Elizabeth Berg. She wrote Arthur Truelove. Has anyone read it?

Good morning. It is going to be a snowy Sunday. Has not started yet, but it is just a few miles away, and the temp is 19, a tad warmer than the past few mornings.
Robin, yes, as a 1 bedroom, even without the house basically falling down around itself, would be a hard sell. There is no way any size family could buy it, And then with no basement! My goodness, that is not heard of in Wisco!! So selling it to who I call the Property Brothers, is a no brainer. Yikes, that was a long power outage! Did you hear what caused it? We have been having transformers blow up quite a few times around town lately. We used to hear that squirrels would get in there and boom, the squirrel gets fried, but so does the transformer. That is the bad thing about outages, when they come back on, you have to go running around turning off what was on! And in your case, that stinks with it being during the night.
Gareth, I had to chuckle, that you had to wait your turn for your indoor track!!! Does DH use it much? I know, that is good he is doing it, but then you have to wait! Oh, I forgot to look at the moon!!! Darn! The weather guys are predicting 5"-8" of snow, which should be here anytime now. I had been loving the dry streets and snow melting these past couple weeks. And I see the end of the week temps look a bit chillier. Maybe our normal winter is trying to come back.
Carol, no, you are right, it is not easy when a loved one passes. Every night DB is on my mind, as I re live his last few days, and what I could have done to help him get help, maybe he wouldn't be dead, but then I do realize, that there is a more powerful force involved. Usually DH goes with me to pick out frames, so between him, and whatever employee is helping me, and then my opinion, a choice is made. I like the frames I got last winter, as they seem to be the popular frames, the darker colored frames.
Anngie, exactly! The other houses that our Realtor checked out, for comparison are sitting on the market, because the seller's have over priced them. And those are houses that are move in ready. I do not want to hold onto it, because we want more money, so that in the meantime, we are paying for the power, and water, and taxes, plus keeping the driveway shoveled, and then spring comes and the grass needs cutting. NO THANKS! We knew the minute we all went into that house that it would not be a money maker. I am sorry, but I have never read that book, or, I think, that author.
While DH was gone yesterday, to fix that gas leak at DB, I went through all the paperwork for DB taxes and our taxes. I see we are missing 1 1099, or whatever it is called for our retirement funds. Will have to call them tomorrow. Otherwise, I can get DB taxes started. I will take them to the guy he was using for quite a few years. Mine I do in Turbo tax. Ours is pretty easy, compared to DB.
I had DD1 send us a message of a trailer for sale, all set up at a campground about an hour north of us, last night. Funny, as I have been looking at them, and the one she found, I had not seen, on Facebook Marketplace. Now DH wants to buy it. I would like to, also, but do not want to spend the money. My thinking on spending money has changed completely, whereas a couple years ago I would have, but now I want to hang on to the money,..weird. DD1 also decided they are not buying DB car. Which is fine with us, since our Realtor said he knows a guy that is looking for a car for his daughter, and told us we could get $1,000 more from them, than selling it to our daughter. So that should be a win win situation. We will see. DH brought home that little crockpot yesterday and I washed it up good, and it looks pretty new, so I took a picture of it, next to my regular crock, to send to DS, to see if she wanted it. (I feel bad that the only thing she is getting is the fridge, and the kitchen table and chairs, since she did not have a chance to go thru the house, after DB death to see if there was anything else she wanted), she is not sure if she wants it, she asked if she could look at it, when they get back in April, which is fine with me. If she doesn't want it, I will keep it.
Need more coffee, so off I go, have a nice day!

Karen, sounds like things are moving along for you with handling all the things you need to. When do you think your realtor will close on the house? Sounds like a smart move, in the end, to sell to them, and the fact they are getting rid of the car is a bonus. Do you have to find someplace to put that kitchen table and chairs until your DS gets back? A crockpot is one thing, the fridge, table and chairs something else. I hope you don't end up with that bad winter.
In 1978, the NYC area got socked with a major snow storm on February 6th. Our newspaper has been doing these special editions every few weeks where they publish an insert that is pages from an old paper. This week was on that storm. I remember it well because we were living in Queens, and they didn't plow the local streets for more than 24 hours. I know we had a major one a few years later, because we were in our house at that time. I guess we have so few of those they are all memorable.
Gareth, how many steps do you get in for your indoor "track"? When I was using my fitbit I would sometimes walk around my main level, but it kind of annoys the dog because he thinks it's strange I suppose. But, a good idea. I really have to get my act together to go sign up with LA Fitness.
Carol, there are so many different frames for glasses it is hard to decide. The ones I have now are frameless, I wanted ones that didn't look like I had glasses on, which of course I do. But, they were so expensive I am reluctant to give them up.
Anngie, I guess you had snow when we had rain. It is so strange that someone who was up north of us on the water was looking out at snow falling while I was talking to him, and it was just raining by us.
We had a really nice time at our friends house last night. He made a delicious dinner. There were 8 of us, so not too many, nice and quiet. Delicious food too. I am going out food shopping soon, will do some laundry today, and get in more reading time.

Karen, all we've had is a light dusting of snow which makes me happy that we missed the brunt of it. North of us have had several inches. DH uses our indoor track every day too.
Robin, my step goal is 10,000 but I always get more than that usually 11,000+ I get more when I walk outdoors. I have the frameless glasses too that I love. They're expensive but more than worth it to me since they're so lightweight and are almost invisible like you're not even wearing glasses.
Anngie, I've read some of Elizabeth Berg's books but it's been awhile and not that one. I'll wait on your review of The Art of Mending to decide on reading it.

I forgot about commenting on that book Anngie. I have not read it either, and I know she wrote so many books, but the only ones I have read are The Story of Arthur Truluv and the 2 sequels, which are her 3 most recent books. Let us know. Sometimes I like to know about older books for when nothing is coming up at the library.
