As a child I learned about the food pyramids of the 1950 & 1960'. Now my eating is based on the old WW Good Health Guidelines, lean protein, dairy, whole grains, fruits, and veggies.

* First introduction was in school in the late fifties: basic four food groups Just googled and found there were 7 food groups before this but born in 1952 I was blessed with the basic four that came out in 1956...this article kind of lays it out
later it was probably WW and what I gleaned from all around me but exchanges made a lot of sense

I’ve been doing it for so long that I believe it was my parents teachings. What I needed was portion control. That I got from the 8 healthy guidelines. It’s stopped me from eating a whole chicken breast because it’s “free”.

My mother, who ate sensibly, and my grandmother, who cooked enough just in case a busload of people should break down in front of her house...

who cooked enough just in case a busload of people should break down in front of her house... That was my MIL, plus she was always trying to lose weight so she was on a mission to get all leftovers out of her house ASAP. I could eat whatever I liked without gaining until around 18-19. Then I joined weight watchers. These days I'm always reading any nutritional information I come across. I cook dinners from Clean Eating magazine recipes; mostly I try not to eat much processed food, but I'm not militant about it.
